Hi everyone. I was most diappointed to find that the forum for the Dream has had to go to make way for the more modern handsets...
I've just got my sensation xe.. and my old desire has been flashed with Runnymede AIO as an xmas present for my dad... and as my backup phone i will be getting my old G1 back... as I recall it was running a very old version of Cyanogen. but i'm sure in the 3-4 years since I modded it, a lot more became available..
does anyone have any links to romsets, recoveries etc. I *think* it had CWM on it, but I can't be absolutely sure... any and all links or info would be appreciated.
thank you all and happy new year

Hi all
I'm a complete newbie to the Android, but in the four weeks I've had the HTC Hero, I've set up email, downloaded loads of apps etc, but I've started to notice some problems.
I was advised to upgrade from Android 1.5 to Android 1.6 ahead of the upcoming release of 2.1, but I want to backup all my apps, email settings, messages, etc. so I don't have to start again after the upgrade.
I've been reading through the forums for a few days, and can't find a simple guide. I've found a lot about "root" but nothing about what root is! (As I said, I'm a complete newbie)
Any chance someone could post an idiots guide?
Many thanks
You know...The problem doesn't even exist!! Are you happier than before huh? ...Why? What? Didn't you know? F***ing HTC won't release ANY 2.1 update for our Heroes until 26th of April! Oh sure, you could upgrade to 1.6 but....NO! You can't! Because HTC has decided that 1.6 upgrade will never be released! Oooorrr...You could read some guide about "rooting" your Hero and installing a custom rom This is the best and quickest way to get 2.1 features without waiting for official HTC upgrade. Even because when the new firmware will be released maybe there won't be the possibility of rooting again the phone! So you're forced to use stock rom! And if you don't like it...Well...go to hell! XD (By HTC, not by me obviously...). I can only suggest you some "short" readings and a particular 2.1 rom:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superuser (aka root user)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654030 (The most stable and fastest 2.1 rom at the moment)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 (The most powerful and friendly modded recovery)
So read, read and read! Then, when you think you're ready, try to root your Hero, if you're not able to do it maybe you've got a perfect SPL...But this is another story...
Oh..and (google)search, (google)search, (google)search //A sort of casting....
+1 MARDURHACK.
A few more things here,...
Have a read of What Can I Do With Root - INFO
Then check out [Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom
....Then when you get to the bit about installing your custom ROM, use the link that MARDURHACK provided if you want to try out a 2.1 ROM. Or you can have a look at the other ROMs available in the development section here at XDA.
I had my Hero for about 3 weeks but wanted a 100% stable ROM, so have opted for the MODACO 3.2 ROM. It is Android 1.5, not 2.1. You can get that from HTC Hero section @ MoDaCo.com
.... I can confirm, its the dogs bollocks!
Hi all,
I see that the "unofficial" official Android 2.1 update for the Sprint Hero was leaked out a few days ago but unfortuantely this does not install on the UK Hero.
Is there anyway to force install this ROM onto the UK Hero? Im a bit of a noob when it comes to flashing Android handsets.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan.
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A. Please post all future queries in the Q&A forum.

If I remember correctly, the Sprint Hero is a CDMA-device, so the 2.1 ROM is built for different (albeit very similar indeed) hardware. So it will not work (not properly, if at all) even if you do get it to flash. But rest assured, now that the official Sprint 2.1 ROM is out there, ROM cookers will probably dissect it and make it work for the GSM Hero.
And I believe now that the official GSM Hero 2.1 update isn't far behind anymore, just a matter of Google approving of it (and since HTC gave each localized version of the Hero its own SKU, Google has to approve of them per localization, something HTC has since fixed by using one SKU internationally for the Legend and one internationally for the Desire, but sadly, this is why updates for the Hero roll out so sporadically).
if it were useful, it would have been ported already. it's entirely possible you could force it to install but that could leave you with a non-functioning phone or one that's un-rootable... personally I'm gonna wait for the final release from here, once it's safe and tested. have patience!
i wouldnt even bother using a 2.1 rom untill we have a fully funcional kernel from source.Last night HTC Tweeted that....
HTC said:
Because we know how much you developers love source code...Legend, Incredible, Desire, and Eris(2.1) kernels are online. http://ht.ly/1MODf
Click to collapse
So we will mroe than likely have to wait for there release of 2.1 before we can even get a taste of that sought after kernel

Thanks to Geoff M for setting this up. Sorry, but this forum site won't let me post a link.
Hey all!
I apologise if I have missed the thread, however, I was wondering where the thread is on how to get android ROMs/builds on to the HD2. It will be a brand new phone from O2.
I'm coming from the HTC Desire but will sorting the HD2 out for the Mrs.
Will I need root, etc?
The Desire thread has a sticky on rooting and installing custom ROMs? Is it worth somebody doing one here?
Cheers
definitely worth it, but there's a guide in here to follow the steps.. look for it
I searched a few threads and found this for you http://everythinghd2.blogspot.com/2010/09/android-on-htc-hd2.html step three should give you the latest FroyoStone build.
Also once you have installed the winmo rom you will be able to then choose another rom that is lighter.
Good Luck

Android threads are usually found in the android section........
wait a minute no they're not, they're everywhere........
is the HD2 worth learning how to flash/hack/blahblahblah? yes, especially if the person who has it has seen android os or the iphone os. The windows 6.5 os simply does not compare, I didn't even look at my HD2 as if it was "nice" until I got it on android 2.2
Can someone please help me, been looking and looking and I am not sure where I am going so wrong as I have no results.
Looking for the stock rom to restore and unroot my HTC ONE X H3G (on the UK THREE network), model is H3G.
Lost my backups and after having fun getting Jelly Bean working and back to sense, I want to go unrooted again so I can use Sky GO (for some reason they have something against people using rooted phones and there is no work around for this)
Thanks for any help and advice!!
Hello all, Haven't been on in a while haven't had to since viper rez was released. i loved the rom and it was all i needed. I don't think that there is that many people who still own/use their rezound. recently i had issues and wanted to re flash the rom only to find there are no links any where. I even checked the team that made viperez website i found a thread asking about it and they said they don't even have copy's of the rom any longer. i thought about all my options and knew i am anal about backing up everything and had to have had a copy somewhere finally on a old unused dropbox i forgot about i found it. Just wanted to post it for any one still stuck on this phone.
Did not know where to post plz feel free to move thread wherever, just wanted to help anyone in the community that still wanted to use this fantastic rom

Thanks for the link... but since you are still using this phone perhaps you should jump over to the development areas, this device has been under development all along and still is, there are many JellyBean and KitKat ROMs available for the Rezound, perhaps you would enjoy one of them...
