Random reboots? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I am getting about 2 random reboots a day now. Is anyone else seeing this along with long reboot times.

Same here. Which apps are you using? Have you done anything special? Got mine just yesterday and haven't done anything yet except for installing 3 apps. Wondering if this is a hardware issue...

I know some apps n such aren't updated yet for this version of honeycomb or tegra3. stuff like that or device freezing up usually comes from a bad or incompatible app installation. like I noticed, n others also, that Google earth has been acting funny. I've had it freeze on me in Google earth and either forced an FC or reboot. only happens in Google earth after a while. someone else made a thread on it. some experienced it not loading or freezing up or even reboot. that's the only thing I can really think of. they say when device starts acting up, usually stems from one of the last things you downloaded or installed. so just work backwards uninstalling certain last apps or whatever to see if issue remedied.

same thing happens to me with just normal use... I'm starting to regret buying this thing. Just had it freeze while using google earth.
what worries me is that i've tried using my friends galaxy nexus with ics and it is also buggy/glitchy... i doubt that an update would fix all the problems everyone's been having with their prime.

nope, hasn't happened to me. No random reboot at all and I have over 60 apps on here

I have over 100 up here already. haven't had not 1 random reboot. only thing that'll could pinpoint causes issue was Google earth. which there is a thread on also. its needs updating to be more capatible with our device. sometimes it'll freeze up or not load all the data. that's a software/compatibility issue on Google earth side, not the prime. random reboots and freezes are usually caused by an app you downloaded. easiest way to eliminate the cause is to go back and uninstall the last apps you put in there one by one. then you will find out what was causing the issue.

I bet it's an app that's causing it. I got my Prime yesterday, and I was ready to return it last night because it was constantly freezing and rebooting. I had installed a ton of apps, most of which were apps I use on my phone. In a last ditch effort, I did a full reset last night and am slowly installing less apps. So far, it's running perfectly. I suspect Swiftkey X was causing the problem, as it didn't run properly, but I'm not sure that was definitely it.

Mine did this twice after I downloaded and ran Google Earth. It locked up and I had to restart. After that it restarted twice. Since then it has been perfectly stable.

you mean me RIGHT? LOL

The Motorola Triumph I have is prone to random reboots, but in every case I've traced it back to a program...could be the same for you. A bit annoying as two of the programs were ones I'd used for sometime on my old Droid 1.

Not sure if it's a program that's causing it... it might be a more serious problem. mine has now frozen 4-5 times while the screen is off in the last week.
I uninstalled google earth after it froze but now it's casing me to hold down the power button with a black screen so it can reboot. i love this tablet when it works but for $500 I feel like it shouldnt have this many problems.

Yeah I figured out my issue was a live wallpaper. After uninstalling it I haven't had a random shut down to were I couldn't start it until after several tries.

I know there are a few other people seeing this, lets get something going to discuss. I had never seen it before in the two weeks before ics, now I'm seeing it every few minutes. I did a factory reset right after updating and have only installed a couple apps, so I don't think that's it.

Green camera issue

Last two days ago, my prime fell off from our bed, my daughter somehow accidentally kicked it. Never thought about checking the camera right away, busy checkin f theres a dent made, fortunately not. However, yesterday, just realized that the camera was busted. Tried to press the back of the prime somehow fixes temporarily, but still it's annoying.... though i am not so fond of using this tablet as a camera, but seems it's incomplete. Should i return this for service or just leave it like this with bused camera. I know it's my call but i wanna hear some of your opinions. Thanks guys....

Well, as far as I know, it's a software issue were most of Prime users encounter during its lifetime. This happen to me too. I don't know why...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I doubt the reason the camera quit working is due to the fall, I baby my Prime and it has never taken a lick, yet my camera quit working about a week ago, I get the green scrambled screen like many, many others have gotten with theirs. Either they have poor connections to the board internally, or the software drivers are bad. Only my front works, and I live overseas so getting service is going to be a huge pain.

It's most definitely hardware. Squeezing the TFP by the camera brings back the camera for a second which makes it 100% hardware. It's likely a loose connection or poor solder joint.
My rear camera went green and I have never dropped it.
Unfortunately I have unlocked my Prime and therefore "technically" I am out of warranty. I may have to try to RMA it and see if they will fix hardware even if I unlocked it. I also have an LCD Mura and all the weak WIfi and BT issues. I may just wait until any other hardware issues popup and try to get them fixed all at the same time.
yep, this is most definitely hardware related. same thing happened to me and i had to RMA it. they didn't try to pin it on me for CID though, so you should be all set. I had my prime repaired and back in 12 days from sending it.
there are also a number of threads about this already. please try searching before making a new thread.
here are a couple links

Good luck!
Mine is currently being RMA'd for exactly the same reason. It had a minor bump and the camera showed a broken image in green. Mine would also temprorarily get fixed by squeezing but after a bit that stopped working. Moral... Treat it like glass.
I am more than pissed. I just checked my camera. And now its GREEN! I take very good care of my equipment. My GF knocked it off of the couch last night while in the dock. maybe 15" fall onto my leg / carpet. I am beyond pissed. Reasons like this are prime example while i will never purchase another asus product.

I've got the green lines of death on my 8mp camera too. It just started happening. I can do the "squeeze" fix but as soon as I stop squeezing it goes back green and I never really get the camera to look right while squeezing. I also tried the soft reset button without help. I really don't want to RMA AGAIN. I just got my Prime back from Asus. I do have to say my RMA experiance was not bad though.
Has anyone found out the cause of this? To fix it ourselves so as to not pay ASUS to do it? I saw somewhere that it might be an overheat problem or something like it....

pretty sure its a physical damage problem, which seems more and more likely is caused by being dropped. might just be a loose connection, but unless someone with this issue opens up their prime to see if they can simply reconnect it, we won't know :\

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.

Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.

Random Reboots.

I have been getting allot of random reboots, not while actually using the device but when it is just sitting there, on charger and off anyone have any experience with this?
Are these full reboots, with the LG and AT&T boot animations, or is it just the UI reloading? I havent ran into this at all on this phone. However, i have had an issue with the UI reloading with every Samsung device Ive ever had. Not sure what causes it or if your experiencing the same thing.
They are full reboots I normally catch it on the LG logo,I guess if no one else has come across it I'll go swap the phone out for another. Though my LG g2x had reboots till we had custom roms....

I went and exchanged my phone today for another, so we will see if that helps it. I am not sure though because I had a LG G2X and it had random reboots as well, it was only fixed with custom roms and kernels later so assuming we get unlocked bootloaders I am sure that will be fixed but till then I am not sure if I am going to keep this phone or not....

I've had reboots as well. Around 4 times now and purchased the phone nov. 3. a couple times it was when the phone is just sitting there on stand by. one time it was while posting a picture on instagram. Another was taking a picture and looking at the photos... and when it does re start, it will restart 2 or 3 times at a time, like i see the lg logo 3 times, then finally the "rethink possible" logo, then the phone boots up and while or just after my media scanning of my sdcard finishes, it will automatically restart again... and this happens 2 or 3 times. for some reason I feel like it has something to do with me 64gb sd card but am not sure, i used to think it had something to do with eco mode but phone has restarted while it wasnt activated too... dunno how to fix, hopefully an update will come for a fix :/

Anyone else's DNA freezing, rebooting?

I've had the DNA since 11/21 and I'm surprised more people are not complaining about the phone freezing up and rebooting?
I saw the other post about DNA problems and he mentioned Chrome causing the problem. My DNS froze running Chrome as well so I uninstalled that but it still freezes up when I am in the Mail and Gmail application. It does not happen with a certain action in any application so I am not sure why it keeps freezing up and then rebooting.
I do not have a lot of apps but I am using UCCW, Simi Battery Widget, and Android Pro Widgets on my homescreens. Other than those widgets I pretty much only use the Internet browser, camera, phone, Play Music, and Facebook.
Is anyone else having the same problem with their DNS randomly freezing and rebooting?
I don't think it's a phone issue, but more of an app issue? Remember not all apps are truly compatible with this phone as of yet. Sure, you might be able to download the app you want, but it may not play nice with this new device. I say start fresh, do a factory reset, and add apps all over again. I tend to stay away from apps like UCCW, BW, and so on as I think those are not really ready for this phone. Of course I could be wrong though?
If the problem occurs after the factory reset, I say exchange it for a new one, and hope it's a good phone.
Good Luck!
I discovered the same thing yesterday but luckily I was able to duplicate back to Any.DO. So I just step carefully around the app where it works.
I am using Power Widget and Beautiful Widgets on my home screen with no issues so far.
I would take the previous posters recommendations.

I just thought it was weird because I really don't run that many apps and like minimal style homescreens. I had the Galaxy Nexus and used to run all different types of ROMs (CM10, AOKP, Jelly Belly, Paranoid Android, etc.) (4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2) and I never had an issue with that phone freezing up like the DNA.

if you are rooted, you can delete system apps using titanium, root explorer, etc, etc.
Personally, if a brand new phone is having reboots after a hard reset, it would be getting exchanged.

Why did you ditch the RAZR?
I am considering the DNA or the Razr as my next unit.
i have been dealing w/the reboots and freezing now more and more each day. sucks i'm not sure wats causing this to happen.i'm rooted and still on stock jellybean..could it be a kernel or something cause this really didnt start to happend til i changed kernels.
the only i noticed is a few of my apps were not compatible. some apps will run until i select a certain action then fc. some apps start but then shut right down. these apps just arent for the dna yet its ok delete and repeat lol
99% chance Its your kernel. The guys are doing a great job with the new kernels, but only one has been truly stable. DSB's first kernel is the only stable one I am aware of (aside from stock). I am currently on his 1.2.5 and it seems stable, but not 100% sure just yet.
