Received my prime today and so happy to report that the tablet have
No light bleeds even in complete darkness
No poor wifi signal
No GPS issues , connects offline in 5min.
No yellow screen color
No lcd screen separation
IT'S JUST PERFECT!
Should i return it ? This is not normal it should have a defect for it to become a full pledge prime.

now we plan a robbery, and the tablet will be ours

Mine's perfect. No light bleed or pixel issues. No issues wifi or gps. Absolutely love the new design. It looks rich and feels like your holding something very solid. I think it feels much thinner and a little lighter. Gonna be a late night tonight.

shut it, this is what people are complaining about on these forums. theres no positive posts about the primes. If there was more people willing to post that they have good primes people wouldn't be walking away from the prime.

When eVer I see a post showing doubt on the prime, I usually try to interject my positive experience with it. this is a great device. my Ipad just sits now. been using this device nonstop since I got it on 12/22

The only thing that bugs me about mine is that transferring files thru the usb cable is really slowbor gives errors. I have to use swiftp instead. Aside from that everything is great

I can transfer large files between my phone and computer by USB, I don't see why the prime should be any different. could it be a defect, or maybe you don't have your settings right?

If you re-read what I said, it's not negative. The same could and does apply when someone posts an all negative thread. Taking any absolute position on a public forum is the equivelant of "kick me."

Transformer Prime
Have had no problem with mine. Everything works. Happy, Happy! Because of it being a tablet some of my phone apps don't work but I have found new ones. Have been transferring things between desktop, laptop and Transformer using ES File Explorer and have not needed to use usb. Speed of transfer has been good. Only problem has been some of the older apps have not been able to find the MicroSD card. Move the data to the internal storage and everything works.
Like it, still playing with it.

Mine seems to be perfect, as well.
I am in NH
Ordered 12/23 Best Buy
Received 12/28 (was shipped from Fresno, CA)
I am just wondering if it is possible to discern whether the good ones/bad ones where concentrated geographically? Or perhaps by retailer?

Mine also works perfectly.one tiny spot of light bleed but can only see it in the dark. No dead or stuck pixels. GPS locks with and without wifi, even though I doubt I will use it at any point I wanted to see if it worked. Wifi is strong for normal usage though I haven't tested it with any apps it does have better range than my Droid charge does. No seperating glass issues or yellow colors.
I love it so far!

I have issues with the stock browser and WiFi/GPS, but everything else is perfect.

Gotta throw mine into the "working great" bin. I got it Dec. 22 in El Paso, Texas. Gamestop. GS employees were generally cool and helpful. I got it before I left back to Central America on the December 29 so while annoyed with the release of the Prime it wasn't more than that.
No light bleed or Wi-Fi issues. Same reception as iPad (I haven't tried ipad2) . Just used it in several airports while on my way back home. Was really please with its performance on that trip, which had lots if delays but battery handled it without problem.
This is my first tablet so I'm discovering new things every day.

Same date of acquisition, same experience. I am burning some vacation time, and originally thought I was having less than optional battery life, then realized I was just playing too much with it. Working great here.

I was amazed to find that mine was perfect out of the box as well. For a first tablet this is certainly setting the bar high for me.

I know what you mean. for the people enjoying the device, we are using it like crazy. probably taxing the system more than reviewers did on battery tests..lmao. either way, even with nonstop heavy use, this gets great battery life. still amazed at how thin the Prime is and how great the display looks.
I need a case badly for this though. anyone know if any brick n mortar stores like Best Buy or Gamestop got any accessories or cases in yet? I really hope targus makes a case. I have the targas Truss case for my Ipad and it provides maximum protection, high quality leather, and great functionality options.

Initial impressions of a German Prime

Okay guys, here we go with some impressions of a non american prime.
Today, I got my 32GB gray Prime + the gray dock from the first german batch.
I have to say that I never owned a tablet myself before and I currently use a Desire HD as my development phone.
Hardware:
Good:
Build quality is perfect, period. On my Prime there is absolutely nothing i don't like about it.
It's super thin and not too heavy
Power and volume buttons are nice, but not metal
Keyboard dock build quality is on the same superior level.
The screen is absolutely awesome, super bright, perferct viewing angels and the colors are super good too, no yellow hue for me.
The speaker(s) are hands down the best thing I've ever heard on any mobile device. They are loud, they are clear and they have bass . I tried to completely cover it -->not possible with my hand, it still sounds the same
No comment on batterylife yet, it's my first charge
Camera is really good for a tablet, the pictures look much like iPhone pictures look. Really good when zoomed out and pretty strange when zoomed in.
The screen is very easy to clean, no comparision to my phone.
Bad:
Wifi is pretty weak, I can clearly see that it is way weaker than my DHD (it actually doesn't even see my network where my phone connects without any issue)
I won't say anything concerning the actual speed because I am not used to Wifi devices having a better speed than 10Mbps.... One word though: it's slower than my phone.
After the .33 update Wifi speeds are really good, 25-30Mbit/s
It's pretty sad we got only one speaker, you clearly notice the sound comes only from one side
The charging cable somehow feels really cheap. It also doesn't have any kind of snapping thing which prevents unwanted removal of the plug. The connector is like a USB-plug, you plug it and you un-plug it without any button or so to press. The charger itself feels okay.
Keys on the dock could need a bit more travel distance
Screen is finger print magnet, but I actually havenÄt compared this to other tablets
Software
Good:
Hmm, yea what to write here...?
HC runs smoother on the Prime than on my girlfriends Xoom...
Asus Supernote is a pretty decent note taking app. If they add palm rejection it's the best note app out there.
Haven't tested much of the other Asus apps so far
Ah, the Asus quicksettingsmenu is cool too, it's fast and just works
Bad:
HC just sucks, it's not well optimized at all. There are bugs random slowdowns and hangs everywhere
My GPS is broken too (more on this later)
Touchscreen sucks (I put this to software because I don't think it's hardware related). The touchscreen isn't always working properly. It's the same "ghost touching" reported earlier. Also it sometimes just doesn't register at all. You need to tap 2 or even more times.
Touchscreen working perfectly after the .33 update, no more issues at all.
Usage
I love the keyboard, i actually work a lot with that tiny mousepad I never saw me working with a mouse on android
Battery (still first charge of Prime and dock) seems to be pretty good, I am currently on 11 hours of constant usage (webrowsing, a movie, listening to music playing games, etc)
using the touchscreen while docked is a bit hard because the device is very top heavy, you need to hold the dock while working with your finger on the screen
You need to activate the ASUS onscreen keyboard in order to get a QWERTZ keyboard while using the dock. Otherwise it's a QWERTY. That's the most annoying thing I found so far
The "GPS-issue":
Now I had the chance to actually test it myself, so here are the results.
My Prime doesn't lock onto satellites as most others here too.
It barely sees any satellites at all. Where my phone sees 10 sats (all with good reception) the Prime sees from time to time exactly one with near zero reception...
I really think this is software related (or maybe I just want to believe that? ). Read why:
In my opinion we have so many issues with the Primes because ASUS didn't intend to release the Prime with Honeycomb at all.
I think they developed this device only with ICS and once they realized that they can't finish ICS they hurried up to slap HC on it.
Unfortunately the actual testing of the software was more or less forgotten or better suspended due to time constraints.
If I am right we will see a nicely running more or less issue free ICS soon. If this is not the case ASUS really screwed up this time...
Conclusion
All in all I think the Prime is a awesome device which will get perfect once the bugs are gone. I am still happy with my Prime and I'll keep it.
If they fix the GPS and the touchscreen I got a perfect device for my use. Weak Wifi is not really a problem for me
Update
Okay a little update mainly about battery life:
I used the Prime all day now until it reached 2% I got about 9 hours of constant heavy usage, including webbrowsing, downloading lots of things, watching a movie, listening to music playing games, etc.
Then i plugged the fully charged dock and continued using the Prime the same way as before. Currently I am near 12 hours of usage, 23% left in the dock and Prime got recharged by dock to 31%.
I guess the Prime will go up to about 40-45% (all while using it), before the dock gets empty.
So far I am pretty impressed by the batterylife. (remember this is the first charge for both Prime and dock)
See also the added section about the usage.
Second Update
I just got the .33 OTA and it installed fine without any problems.
The touchscreen is super responsive now, no more issue at all in this case.
Wifi seems to be faster too, GPS hasn't changed at all (as expected)

Interesting point you raise and something that I was thinking about also, maybe the drivers for the GPS were intended to work only with ICS (I don't know enough to comment on this) and that's really why we're getting such shoddy reception. However the fact that ASUS are now removing all traces of the device having GPS in the specs list does suggest that it may well be hardware related.
I'm expecting a statement pretty soon from them.
Thanks for the short review! Do you have the 64GB Prime?

great first impressions. I also believe this has the best sound out of any mobile device I've heard before. in the themes and apps section there's a thread on an app called Volume+. its a volume booster that uses a speaker mod to accomplish this. let me tell you, IT WORKS GREAT. my prime now is wayyy louder than stock and has more bass to it also. I confirmed this with a decibel meter testing the speaker mod off vs. on. definitely a dramatic increase in sound and quality. has various profiles and even advanced ones so you can use equalizer if you feel up to it. that thread had link to marketplace for it. its a paid app. but he also says, in description, you can get that same app for free from his website. which he lists in app description also. just thought I'd spread the word as the sound now is unbelievable for the most part.
glad to hear you liking your Prime. hopefully it'll serve as a great developement tool for you also.
Thanks for the review. Surprised that the WiFi isn't as strong as the Desire HD I would have thought it would be. Maybe this can be improved, certainly sounds like it would be better with optimized ICS as well.

The whole thing is just an incredible failure by Asus. They obviously rushed and keep rushing an unfinished product to market in order to beat the new ipad launch in January. Its nothing more than a big FU to the consumer. Return for refund, dont let them get away with this BS.

Lucky you. Got mine yesterday, yes same batch in Poland distributed by Euro RTV AGD, and can confirm that the GPS reception is of very low signal. Long time for first lock, and looses the signal very easily.
Side by side comparison with my TF101 clearly suggests problems with GPS of the TF201.

It's actually a good thing, so if you trip on the cable, the device will hopefully unplug and not crash.

Finally!!! Asus!!!

After 2 defective launch ATP's, yesterday I finally got a almost perfect unit with dock. My first 2 Primes from Gamestop were a nightmare. They both had every problem reported. The Prime I bought is fantastic. Even the GPS works perfect w/o WiFi. No lag or anything even with the Killer Whale pacing back and forth. No FC's or restarts with ICS. I Love it.
No problems with the camera and flash.
The only 2 problems that bother me is that, no matter what video player I use the audio always lags through Bluetooth and WiFi and Bluetooth do NOT work at the same time. I really enjoy this Prime because the resolution is perfect for my emulators. Anything higher would cause some of my movies and emulators to look like garbage. The Prime and dock really are a premium product as long as you get one that works. Thank You everyone and Gary Key for pushing Asus to finally put out a world class product.
So moral of the story: 1 out of 3 chances you will get the product you paid for.
I think Asus has stepped up their quality control recently.
What is your serial (only the first 5/6 letters)
So did you get your 3rd TP from GameStop as well or did you purchase it from somewhere else?
So this is very very interesting as it is the second thread that someone has posted indicating a "perfect" prime.
The first thread, I was like "BS" due to the fact that the OP really didn't say anything afterwards. It could, perhaps, be that Asus finally observed the issues with the QC and finally made corrections. After bringing back 2 primes because of backlight bleed, perhaps its time to make another run.
I would like to see the first 3-6 letters of the Serial number, also, if you have the chance a picture of a black background with no backlight bleed. After all, I think you owe it to us to provide some sort of "proof" considering your claims. You just can't come on here and say, "I have a perfect prime" with nothing to show for it when we have so much other material to work from that indicates the Prime is a horrible piece of hardware.
Sure he can. Why not? Why would he owe you anything in that respect?
I think what it boils down to is quality control issues, so it's the luck of the draw... just like there are bad/weak ones coming out, the probability is that there will be ones with no issues as well, and it seems he was able to find one of those.
I mean, mine is as "near-perfect" as it seems to get too... no lockups, the wifi works well, as does the GPS (I don't think it would hold up in real time navigation, but it picks up about 12 sats in a short period of time indoors on the ground floor of my house.) And, it has very negligible light bleed.
That being said, this is my 3rd prime (the previous two I returned due to quality issues - dead pixel, bad light bleed on one of them)
The interesting thing is, I upgraded both of those previous primes to ICS before I returned them (I figured "why not" since they were going back to the store anyways - if they start locking up, no problem). I upgraded them both to ICS without any issues, and used them about 2-3 days each before returning them... not a single lockup on either of them
I'm now on my 3rd prime (all WW SKU), and given that the previous 2 upgraded no problem, I decided to upgrade this one as well. I did, and it's been rock solid.
My friend has one as well, also upgraded to ICS. Also no issues.
So for the record, there's 4 that upgraded to ICS no problem.

My 3rd prime is perfect as well. The gps is weak but it at least works. Not a big issue to me. I think I have fixed the lag-i\o issues as well.
I have a perfect prime n not showing y'all a damn thanggg...lmfao. if you want to be short sighted n believe all the negative stuff then do so. We just just continue to enjoy our devices as we see fit. PRIME is an Excellent piece of hardware when done properly. If it wasn't, I been would've returned mines. Fact for me is, it works great in my day to day use.
I just bought a used prime yesterday on graiglist for $350. Iwas not aware of all issue this table has. I bought like new in box condition and now checking all theproblems list i am happy to say that mine is perfect. No backlight issue, amazing wifi range as good has my laptop, gps connect in a second without wifi, serial number show corret. Im in love with this and getting rid of my useless touchpad

Agreed, I'm going to wait about two weeks then make another run at it. Lightbleed is the number 1 issue in my book.

The only thing that bothers me is that, no matter what video player I use the audio always lags through Bluetooth. Can someone tell me how to fix this or suggest a video player with subtitles that doesn't suffer from this delay? Youtube and Netflix work perfect with Bluetooth.

I had this same problem with my original Transformer, with Netflix and my Motorola S9-HD headphones. I never did resolve it, so I simply started using wired headphones.
Bottom line, I don't think this is a Prime-specific issue...
Mine works fine. My GPS reception is mediocre, but it does work. Everything else is perfect.
You guys need to understand that defective products exist. I recently got a galaxy nexus and the phone had awful reception. Dropped connections every 20 minutes or less. Got verizon to replace it with a new phone which works perfectly.
Mine is also fine. Barely any light bleed, GPS not great, and one miniscule bright spot on the screen (not a dead pixel). Everything else is gravy.

We agree that defective products exist. But Asus is clearly having an issue with quality control. And it isn't an issue with just a small few. 90% of them have backlight bleed issues. If you think you don't, you're probably not looking hard enough.
What it really comes down to is what you personally are willing to live with. My prime is great, wifi is strong, gps works (locked on 5 sats last night) however it has a single dead pixel. Is this a game breaker? No. My first prime had 2 bright areas and 2 dark areas. This was a game breaker. I returned it and ordered a new one. Now the new one has a dead pixel however when actually using the prime I don't notice one single dead pixel.
If you can live with the issues you have with your Prime, great. Use the hell out of the TFP and give it great word of mouth. If you have a defective unit and you can't live with the defects by all means return it. I would never advise anyone to do otherwise. I'm a giant advocate for not accepting poor service or quality. I worked the last 4 years doing QA, I know how things go.
However if you can't seem to find your perfect TFP, let it go. Find another device and just move on. We understand your frustration but continually badmouthing something others like/love will only cause contempt and discord.
This is not directed at anyone in particular.
TLDR: If you have a good TFP great, if its defective sorry return it and move on.

Maybe I'll take a pic later to show no bleeding. I'm not sure why you don't believe me. Look at my previous posts here. I'm probably the last person on Earth to give the ATP praise. This is the first positive thing I've said about the Prime....and it was hard for me to do so, with all the negative posts I have made about my past experiences.
seeknom said:
I noticed my bezel seems a lot tighter than my previous primes. I think that has something to do with backlight bleeding.
The Prime on display also had no backlight bleeding. I had made arrangement to take the display model if my Prime had bleeding.

How are you guys testing your gps? What I do to test is open google maps so I can get a map of my area. Then I drive around the block and see if I'm being tracked real time.
I drove around here in Anchorage with a constant lock on 8. There is a discrepancy of about 65 feet. Can someone pleaase help me with Bluetooth audio delay during video playback? This delay does not happen with Youtube or Netflix. It only happens with every video player I use. Asus wants me to RMA. There's no way I'm giving up this Prime!!!

We should appreciate the transformer prime more.

With all the complaints in this forum, you'd think this was a bad device.
I'll tell you, over in the tf101 forum there was no where near as many complaints and the tf101 wasn't the perfect device either.
The prime is an improvement in alot of ways.
The tf101 had backlight bleeds, I went through 3 of them before I settled.
The tf101 was sluggish, no one here can fully respect the power of the tegra 3 processor without experiencing the tegra 2. The boot time was like 4 minutes, it was slow in alot of areas that the prime isn't.
It had to use honeycomb up until 2 weeks ago, that's about a year - prime owners got it asap with a slew of support from asus for the gps/wifi issues.
The tf101 had keyboard dock issues, alot of the docks had to be sent back in.
It was fat and plastic. It was brown. It collected dust under it's camera.
It wasn't perfect.
But what device is? Galaxy tabs are diet vanilla, nothing really special or innovative about them. The follow the ipad status quo. Toshiba tabs are jokes on battery life. Acers are humongous. Ipads use proprietary apple garbage and are extremely limited by their OEM.
When I got my prime I would grip this thing tightly and say to myself "I own a ****ing transformer prime".
I waited for this thing for months through using my tf101, when everyone was hoping Q4 release meant October, but october stretched on to november, and then december when it finally came out.
But this exceptional tablet gets overshadowed by a couple of it's faults, rather than how great it's advantages are.
We own the world's first quad core tablet, it's thin, it's beautiful, it get's ridiculous battery life with it's incredibly well designed keyboard dock. We have usb connectivity, micro sd, full sized sd, hdmi, etc. Some devices don't have any of those, let alone all of them like we do.
Sure something better will come. Maybe you want a more expensive Ipad 3 with a redundant screen resolution, slower cpu, thicker design to compensate for it's thirst of excessive battery life, and lack of expansion. It's not perfect and the devices after it won't be either...
It's time we be happy prime owners. Asus did design a good device, and they don't receive credit where credit is due. I'm proud to own this tablet.

Agree w the OP. I ranted about its short comings when I first got it, but after using it for a few weeks, I love it. It really is a beautiful device and fast. Its my first tab so maybe my expectations were too high at first.
BTW, what do you mean by redundant screen?
This a great device once you get it to work without crash. Everything's stable for me on .15 nd the browsing is super fast thanks to OC 1.6ghz ... its perfect for what I do

I really like it. I'm not an Asus fanboy, in fact I try as hard as possible to not be a fanboy of anything.
That being said, there were and are shortcomings. But over time the bugs will get ironed out, CM9 and other ROM makers will do some wonders.
I don't know, when I use the Prime (especially with the new floaty browser!) I feel more like I'm using a computer, not an appliance. You know, file management is in my hands, I can f*** around with the OS, break it if I want. Whenever I use my friends' or coworkers' iDevices they just feel like appliances with a shallow OS.
But I'm not trying to sell anyone on it. Some people like it, some people don't. I like seams, I like tinkering. I learn more from it. All those folks complaining about their wifi, gps, screen issues; I guarantee you they have learned MUCH more about those aspects of mobile computing because of those faults.

this is kind of weird and hard to understand how you guys settle with a device that has a lot of design flaws on both hardware and software. Asus transformer prime was my first tablet. And to be honest the one I got had nearly no light bleed, an okay wifi, kind of working GPS and fairly stable device in comparison with the horror stories that we all know through the forum. I made the though call return my transformer prime one day before my return window. The idea I had was wait a little until Asus get the problems fixed and buy a great one. However, I realized that I have to have a tablet as waiting for a fixed transformer. So I went ahead and bought a Samsung galaxy tab from Costco which has a 90 days return window. Here is my impression out of my first 10 days
-way stable. Had to reboot only one time due to firmware upgrade.
-no hiccups as I use or browse. It is dual core but performs way better than the balance mode of transformer
-screen readability is better than transformer
-wifi, GPS and Bluetooth works in a way it is suposed to be
- Form factor way comfortable than prime. No sharp uncomfortable edges. Way better feeling in your hand. I don't believe I would have written this.
-battery last way longer than prime
There are a few benefits that prime has over.
super ips display is better for outdoor use
Tergra 3 may be better for tegra optimized games. But I am not a game person and use my tablet for business.

also it did not have a microsd slot nor a micro hdmi.
those were the deal breakers for me
less people complained about Toyotas having brakes that didnt work than have whined like babies about this TOY. and look at that, Toyota's still the #1 car manufacturer. so when people say we ''settled'' for our Primes, they are sorely mistaken. my Prime had to settle for ME as a user, as it is FAR beyond anything i can hope to do. I hate to correct you, but Toyota lost 16% of sales last year and is now no.3 after GM and VW (by a wide margin). Having said that I also have only good things to say about my lovely Prime, but it`s certainly important to note, that I don`t really use the GPS, since that duty is up to my GN. In any case I also respect other opinions, but life is sometimes nicer looking at a glass that is half full compared to viewing it as half empty
Coming from the Acer Iconia A500, I can honestly say that the ATP is WAY better in every way but one. The wifi is slightly poorer than on the Acer. That one was far from perfect either when coming to wifi. And the ranting in the Acer forum is way way less than on this forum.
I am simply AMAZED that some people expect their tablet to have a functionel GPS INDOORS!!! I can´t even get satelite lock indoors with my Garmin car gps.
I fixed the wifi problem quite simply by adding a second wifi router in the house using the house wires. And people complain about not getting a signal when they are other places than home... I just bring my own wifi in the form of a Huawei E586 (Search on Ebay)
On my Acer I had poor wifi, sluggish scrolling and browsing, squicky body, and a front and back part that did not want to stay together down in the left corner, Heavy, FAT, poor battery compared to the ATP, no alternatives regarding dockingstation.....the list just goes on.
And worst of all compared to ATP... Acers EXTREMLY POOR customer service. If you think that ASUS has bad service...try Acer!!!
Updates took forever compared to other tablet makers. I think the tf101 and Xoom got HC 3.2 about 2 months before any Acer tablet did.
I think that Acer A500/501/200 users still have to wait yet another couple of months before they get ICS.
When the A500 came out it had HC 3.0 and people had to wait several months to even get the HC 3.1. If you have ever tried the HC 3.0 you would be reluctant to even so much as try to complain about the ATP.
So if you think that ASUS works slowly to fix things.... THINK AGAIN!!

HAHA your funny!!!! I have both sitting right in front of me and I can tell you the galaxy tab doesn't even come close to the performance as our primes. I have to test on both with our applications at work and I cringe every time I pick it up. Even the ipads 1's perform better then that brick.

Has anyone got a defective free Prime yet?

Serious Question, This week I'm getting my 6th and 7th Prime I have went through 5 Primes everyone of them has had issues, other than GPS. I don't really care about GPS, I have a 4.5 inch screen on my phone, and it works fine for GPS. I can deal with a GPS issue. I'm not saying that is the case for everyone especially the early adapters, that bought it for intended use of GPS.
Has the Prime even made it off the shelf without a problem? I have had to return everyone that I have received so far because of really weak WIFI issues or WIFI and Blue-tooth together made my WIFI useless. Luckily I haven't had the rebooting problem yet, I did have to shut it down a couple times because the screen just started going crazy out of nowhere.
These are the Last 2 I will take a chance on, I will wait for the new lenovo or Acer or even the 300 or 700 if these fail its over goodbye Prime have a nice life. Hopefully someday someone will fix you, and turn you into the beast you could be. If someone was really good at modding they could make a lot of money from the community here.
So basically in all seriousness, I wanted to know how many people have actually got a defective free Prime? Be honest!
Well, I only got one Prime, and I returned it becaouse of screen artifacts and a bright pixel. I hope the next will be ok, but since I returned 5 Iconia Tab A501 in the past due to pixel problems... I won't hold my hopes high.

I got two Prime, and 1 Dock.
One prime for me, one for my younger brother.
Both our prime are fine, except for weak GPS, no screen bleed, Good Wifi(As good as my Asus netbook, and my brother's alienware notebook)
We ordered from Bestbuy if that helps.
There is a topic with poll, 400+ people are satasified with their device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491431
I've had my Prime since Monday - serial number starts C1. The only problem i've had so far was removing the micro-sd spacer.
(If your micro-sd port is not set square to the primes left hand edge the spacer will rest on the inner edge of the case surrounding the port. Solution - use an electric style screwdriver with a blunt end to press down in one corner and angle out the spacer after activating the spring mechanism.)
Wifi seems better than my HTC Desire, but I haven't checked this with bt.
Nor have I checked the GPS.
No bad pixels.
No light bleed. Though I haven't looked hard!
Browser works fine with good streaming and download speed. (to my untrained eye.)
Charged once for about 5 hours whilst using the Prime attached to the dock, which gave me approx 10 hours of use, including gaming, video, music, browsing and setting up, widgets, apps, preferences, etc before both batteries were fully drained.
Charged it overnight last night and can report 100% charge to both batpacks.
I am finding my feet in ICS as my Desire still runs on v2.2 Their is much more control here, although the layout is familliar it feels like breaking in a new pair of brogues. It will be comfortable eventually! I guess HTC's sensui has a bit to do with the slightly alien feeling I am experiencing on the Prime.
"Touch formica desk" I can declare myself satisfied with an excellent and fully working, problem-free Asus Transformer Prime in glorious Amethyst Grey.
note to self - I must check out the GPS and search for lightbleeds.
Got one prime in January and its been perfect for me ever since. There are some software issues that could be worked out but i'm sure that will come. I dont even have a car so gps? meh.
btw just did my powerpoint presentation yesterday with the prime. It didnt let me down and it went really well. Its just that more subtle if you just have a tablet lying there imho.
Third time luck for me.
The first one had no HDMI output and bad light bleed.
The second had a very yellow screen which eventually stopped working.
I've had the third for a week now and I've had no problems. Everything is perfect.
yup!
I went through 10 Primes total to get a good one. Even so the wifi range is subpar.
At this point I would return the Prime and get a new iPad 3rd gen.

My Prime was neither defective, nor free.
All seriousness, first Prime, received on 12/21/11, and I've never had any issues.
I'm a serious android freak and have never noticed light bleeds or pixel problems on any of them. Maybe its because I don't look for them idk. If I knew what they looked like I'd probably see one or both on all of my devices (5 tablets and my phone) because I'm mental and have major ocd. So whoever replies to this don't fill me in. Thanks!

I have my first prime still. I bought in on Dec 23rd. The last update seems to have fixed my in and out wifi problem. So other than GPS, not working that great, I would have to say its perfect. I do love the Prime.
Defect-free, no problems as of yet. I've had since mid-January.
"Has anyone got a defective free Prime yet?"
I had to pay for mine!
No GPS (which bugs me but isn't really vital) but everything else is perfect and always has been.
No bleed. No dead pixels. OK WiFi. Can stream video & use BT headphones
My only slight issue is the Ally case where the power cord plugs in, has bent very slightly. No idea why or how.

sometimes it seems like the wifi is slightly weaker - but I think its a placebo effect because I'm waiting for it to mess up.

no light bleeds.
Got mine on December 30th and has been perfect since. The one time o tested GPS I got fixes and everything, have not used it since but as soon as I do need it for something I will definitely report how it goes, though who knows when that will be as in over two months I have yet to actually need it for a single thing. My wifi is just fine and has worked perfectly in a plethora of places. I have yet to have a place where I can connect and not been able to.
I can detail the rest but would rather not. My prime has been perfect for me and defect free. I don't consider the tiny amount of light bleed I have in the bottom left corner a defect. I can only see it during bootup which is only during is updates as otherwise I never restart. It is absolutely 100% invisible during all normal usebi have put it through in time of my ownership.
So yeah, first prime and defect free.
My first prime ordered on December 26th the camera did not work, everything else was great. Second prime no issues whatsoever.
1st Prime here- C1. No issues at all, besides GPS. Solved that with Bluetooth2GPS & my Nexus. Was worth every penny to me so far perfect compliment to my phone

Tf 300 GPS not too good.

I was at nfm today and saw the new tf 300 and tried it out. All I can say is I don't like it. Back plate is rough on the hands and GPS still does not work. Let GPS status go for 3 mins and nothing. Glad I an sticking with my prime

First, I'm glad you're happy with your Prime. It's a great device. Enjoy it.
That said, according to all of the reviews and pretty much anyone who owns one, the GPS reception on the 300 is fantastic, especially compared to the Prime. It's rather difficult to truly judge the GPS capabilities of a device just from the quick, informal test you ran on a display unit inside a store. That's about as far from conclusive evidence of its GPS capabilities as claiming the same without ever having even touched one.
As for the feel of the device, that's all personal preference. I don't find the slightly raised ridges to be rough on the hands in the slightest. In fact, it's quite comfortable and helps with grip tremendously. Actually, I can't imagine someone describing the back as rough. It's not even close to fitting the definition of that word. Additionally, the more rounded edges of the 300 definitely make holding the device for extended periods much more comfortable for me than holding the Prime. The Prime always felt like it was cutting into my hand after awhile. I don't get that at all with the 300.
The Prime is a fantastic device, and there are several things it has over the 300 (display, weight, thinness, etc). But the 300 definitely has a leg up over the Prime on GPS (and WiFi as well for many), and the feel of the device in hand all comes down to personal preference.

I completely agree with you. It's very misleading when people open a new thread to give opinion on the device without properly testing it. Did OP test the GPS on other devices in the store, I highly doubt any other device will be able to lock on a satellite in an indoor environment, including the dedicated Garmin devices. The feel of the device is definitely a more personal choice, some people prefer the extra thickness and grip the plastic cover provides. The GPS/Wifi has been excellent on mine, not that it was horrible on the prime, but with plastic cover the signal simply travels through better.

I never just open threads without reason. I tested it with a galaxy tab, Sony s and the new Toshiba tablet. Forget what its called. Very nice by the way. But yeah they all has gps within 1 min. The tf300 never found 1 sat. That is all I am saying on this thread
I am in no way saying it is a bad device

I agree with this and your original post. I'll go down to NFM to take look myself, but I already know if its thicker, heavier, and the screen isn't as good you can keep it. If I need GPS I'll use my phone or gps tether. No way on earth I'm sticking that dongle thing on my prime, but then again the dongle was free so you get what you pay for. I got the prime partially because of the looks, feel, weight, and screen. Whatever tablet I get next will have to be better in all areas than the prime, I'll wait till I see the 300 but I doubt it's better.

In 95% of cases, the Prime is the much better device. For people that dont use GPS its like 98% of cases
Also Tf300 screen is made of harden glass compared to the TF201 Gorilla Glass. I take my Prime with me everywhere I go. It's nice to see the screen in complete daylight with intense glare. If I can recall Primes have 600 nits compared to 350 nits on Tf300. The whole ergonomics deal with Tf300 is nice but my Moko slim case feels nice too and it even protects my investment. My wifi rocks just as good as my Galaxy tab 10.1 My TF201 internal GPS is weaker but can hold a lock while driving. Or just connect my dongle if need be. Love my Prime. To each his own right

Again, completely personal preference. I had the Prime and got rid of it. Now I have the TF300. I won't be getting rid of it. I definitely like it much better than the Prime as an overall device.

Some parts of it are personal preference, i agree. But some are just Facts. I based my statement on how often and how i use my Tablet. For example The display is better on the prime because of the IPS+. And I use the display alot Wifi on the other hand is only better in certain locations far away from the router. GPS yeah, no argument here but thats something I hardly ever use, thats why it only got a small %age in my statement
The look (aluminum/colored plastic) is personal preference. And all the other hardware stuff... Cpu clock, Gorilla Glass, speaker? etcetc are just better on the prime.
But i could see myself being happy with the TF300 as well but i already have a prime that works perfectly in all situations in which i need a tablet, so for me the TF300 is only superior in the 2% of my usage time where i need GPS. I'd never even think about exchanging it for a TF300^^

For me, the display isn't that big of a deal. Indoors, the displays are pretty comparable (unless you want retina burning brightness). Outside, it's not even a contest, but I don't use it outside. So the display argument again comes down to personal preference. Sure the Prime's display is better, but in general use, not much of a difference will be seen. CPU clock speed pretty much is a wash as well in every day use. The speaker on the Prime might be slightly better, but again, they're so similar that it would be tough for anyone to distinguish in a blind test.
I find the TF300 to be superior for my uses. I had incredibly spotting WiFi reception on my Prime, which in and of itself is pretty much a deal breaker. No such problems on the TF300. I actually use GPS fairly often, so that's a given on the TF300. The feel of the TF300 is much better in hand to me, particularly because of it being slightly thicker and having more rounded sides. I use the dock extensively, so using the Prime in a case to make the ergonomics more comfortable for long periods was frustrating since I had to constantly take it on and off. With the TF300, I don't have to worry about one.
So while I'll certainly agree that on paper the Prime is clearly ahead of the TF300, but in everyday use, I find the TF300 to be much more usable than the Prime was for me. And again, most of the reasons I listed why it is such come down to personal preference. You won't catch me knocking the Prime. It's fantastic. And I can certainly understand why people who own it wouldn't want to get rid of it for the TF300. But the TF300 just works for me in ways that the Prime didn't. The minor trade-offs in a few areas from the Prime have been more than worth it for improvements in daily use.
Posters like cloud5 & jjdevega make me feel good about my purchase. Prime is a great device, when you have a really good working one like we do..lol. I use my prime everyday. This is my computer as years ago(when first Ipad came out) I converted to using tablets for any and every computer function I needed. Now that I have the dock also, it adds a whole new dimension to prime and extends its already superior battery life. As far as how it feels, Prime feels great holding it. I'm 6'5, with big hands, so the whole prime cuts into people hands seem over exaggerated to me. like apple would say, "You holding it wrong" if it does..lol. Im still just as amazed with my device since the first day I got it. Everyone loves how thin and light it is. plus the differences in display compared to 300 isn't just prime being brighter. If you look at any tech site detailed breakdown of the 2 displays, Prime is clearly superior. With that said 300 still has a decent display. it not being gorilla glass will make it's display easier to break/scratch. so people better make sure to protect it. I haven't had a case or screen protector for my prime since day 1 and no scratches or cracks on the screen.
I can see why a few like the 300 over the prime. its because their experience with Prime wasn't a good one like mines. I bet if they had a prime like mines, or cloud5 or jjdevega, they wouldn't even want to downgrade to 300. It is a downgrade. Even Asus calls it this themselves. its the low end replacement to the OG Transformer. No disputing that.
I like having a device that's kind of exclusive. If i want to be a "me to" guy, I would've just got a new Ipad.
mods do need to go on and make a 300 section so we can get all these mofos up outta here..lol j/k..300 is the little brother to prime. its like little kids(300) running around playing. they need their own playground now so the grownups(Prime) can conduct business..lmfao

First GPS lock can take up to 12.5 minutes (internet connection could speed this up depending if AGPS was properly configured by manufacturer, which Asus often forgets to do it seems). Next locks will be much faster. 3 mins is too little to test GPS. The time is 12.5 because you need to get data about satellite positions from the satellites.

Is this normal I ask as I don't use GPS on a tablet but I just tried GPS tether with my evo and got an instant lock. I would think waiting almost 12 minutes would leave me very lost.
The NFM by me didn't either have the the 300 or have them on display.
