I want to downgrade from CM7.2 by Axel2033 back to CM7.1 by Grif.
When I upgraded, I just had to clear cache and dalvik cache. Will I have to clear my entire system memory when I downgrade or just the cache and dalvik cache again?
I have CWM5
I'm pretty sure that you have to flash to gingerbread 2.3.x and then install cm 7.1. This would definitely wipe your system data.

I already had CM7.1. I then upgraded to CM7.2 but now I want to downgrade back to CM7.1

This is the first time I install a non-stock kernel(Overstock). Do I have to go back to the stock froyo kernel to flash other roms?
And I've never done any type of wiping before flashing but I'm thinking of doing it this time.
If I wipe the user data and DAVILK, does it erase things on your SD like pictures and videos or apps backed up by Titanium Backup?
You can flash any 2.2, or 2.2.1 rom without flashing a different kernel. If you want to flash a 2.1 rom, will need to flash a 2.1 kernel before you flash the rom. There really no need to wipe anything if your just flashing a kernel, but if you want, just wipe cache partition, and dalvik cache and you will be good. No need for a factory reset. Hope this helps.

I was getting ready to flash another rom so I will wipe data too.
My question has to do more with flashing a 2.2.1 rom(possibly Eugene's Ginger clone 3) from Bionix 1.3.1 with overstock. Is it ok to do it without reverting back to stock kernel?
Nice avatar btw
As long as its a 2.2 kernel you will be fine. It doesn't have to be a stock 2.2 kernel.

Hey guys, quick question. I am currently running CM7 on my V but it is to unstable for me, too many FC's and reboots. I would like to flash That Ain't Sense ROM, found here:
http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/312747-rom-theme-wait-aint-sense-4-6-2011-a.html
Under the directions, it says:
how to flash:
put gapps and rom on sdcard
wipe the hell out of your phone
flash both and reboot
enjoy

When it says, wipe the hell out of the phone, what specifically do I have to wipe, and at what time during the process? Since I am moving to an entirely new ROM, what do I need to wipe?
P.S. I am running thunderc recovery.
Data, cache, system, dalvik cache and something else i can't remember. If am i not wrong, ROMManager doesn't work on the V, so you can't switch back and forth freely, unless there is another method.

You wanna wipe before flashing a new ROM. I wipe data/cache, then Dalvik cache then flash ROM, then gapps file

Is that all I have to wipe? I made a nandroid backup but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.

This should be in Q&A
That's all I wipe. Wiping everything won't hurt though. Just don't do a factory reset through the settings with the phone booted up. Do it through the recovery.

Switching from CN to CM9
I am running CN ICS v3 and want to flash CM9 A2. Can I just wipe dalvik, cache and factory reset and flash the zip from CWM or do I have to do a complete uninstall and then install because of the different kernals? Thanks

I think you can just CWM the new CM9 A2 over your current ICS install. It will overwrite your current kernel.
Just make sure you do full wipe, cache and Dalvik cache wipe before you do the flash within CWM.
I just flashed mine from CM9 A.6 and so far so good... Have not tested the Netflix but it seems nice so far and no SODs for the last 4 hours since the flash... I hope never but will see...

Did you have Classicnerd loaded? I heard that if you don't do an uninstall it will leave parts of the kernal. I was hoping to do a very good wipe, wipe, wipe and wipe... and wipe some more. Or I can wait for CN to catch up. I do like Leo and the gang.
Thanks for your help.

I just did
Wipe factory data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache each twice. Reboot. Wipe again. Then flash
Do not restore data inky case, YouTube does not work when I tried to restore from CWM. Restore from TB selectively.
Sound seems to be broken. I get no sound from keyboard and the volume rocker cannot control volume. The volume is either mute or maximum.

Never mind, a reboot fix the sound problem.

Do a full wipe then flash uImage remover zip found on classic nerd site, under ics betas folder, then flash cm9 and gapps.
That is exactly what I did and it works great. I wiped three time of each Dalvik, cache and factory reset, flashed the moboot kernal remover, flashed CM9 v2, gapps and rebooted. Went very smooth. From what I understand is that if you don't get rid if the old kernals and you flash over them they cause problems and that is why you flash the moboot kernal remover.
After I logged in I used TB to reinstall my apps and all is well. Very well. The CM team did an outstanding job.
Thank you all for your advice.
Quick question, what is the correct and easiest way to clear the Dalvik cache on stock? I updated to ICS from GB and want to clean the Dalvik.
Thanks.

Just flash one of Chainfires CF-Root kernels through ODIN and boot into clockwork recovery then run the Clear Dalvik option. Job done.
But of course you no longer have stock as you have changed the kernel .
Update would have wiped it anyway .

JJ is correct, if it was an official update through kies then don't worry about it. I would only bother about Dalvik if you start to get flash happy with custom ROMS.
cheers guys, i guess if it wiped during the flash then no worries
Hello everyone, i have sold my x10 to my friend few days ago. He has responsed that he cannnot erase my google account, he just could add a new one what he did. We decided to destroy the old one with factory reset but when we booted phone home button, screenlock and incoming calls didn't work. I was searching for threads like these one and I've found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301276 - it is propably the same but i don't want to do something without being sure by you, because i weren't running any other ROM than stock. My (his) x10 is running latest official Gingerbread 2.3.3 (firmware 3.0.1.G. 0.75, kernel 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537). Please try to help if you can.
I assume the rom is rooted with xrecovery? If so I would re-flash the wolf rom but remember wipe factory reset then wipe cache and then advanced wipe dalvic cache before reflashing
