I gained root access through superoneclick gingerbreak. It gave me the superuser app and i downloaded rom manager but whenever i try to get to clockwork recovery mode it keeps going to samsung recovery. No matter how many times I hit re-install packages it goes back to the samsung recovery. What did I do wrong? Should I have gained root another way? Should I try to flash back to 2.1? Please help I'm so frustrated.
first off dont use gingerbreak. Just odin back to stock and then root by installing the update package twice and after twice ur recovery should turn blue to green.
here follow this, use the eclair root guide:

no modded 3e recovery..so it will keep going to Stock recovery. You need to do what movie said or flash a voodoo kernel or flash a modded 3e recovery.
Interestingly enough I have the same problem, 100% rooted, super user access no issue, busy box installed, root manager installed.
I upgraded the 2.1 to 2.2 from the kies mini software.
I have been doing a ton of reading and would like to start flashing roms, etc etc.
Through titanium backup, I have un-installed a large mount of apps and have not suffered any problems as of yet, but would like to try some custom roms.
My question is, since I uninstalled alot of things, only apps that are bloatware, and since I can't get my clockwork recovery console to take affect, do I have to follow post #2?
Is this link the right one taken out of the link from post #2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Is this the final and correct link, since I do not store data on my phone, and all contacts are on my sim card, and really haven't done any customizations to anything really, can I just odin back and not back anything up? All I use my phone for is calls, txt's and internet, I don't bookmark anything, I don't save txts and call logs mean nothing to me?
I assume I will have to re-root my phone again and do the same procedures, etc etc.
Also as a side note, I am a minimalist type of person, that's why I use linux at home, no windows of any kind (I'll do this procedure at work). Any roms out there that can handle my needs of simply calls, txt'ing and internet without all the other stuff? I don't use GPS, I don't facebook or social network, I don't play games on my phone. I do need however, the use of the camera and video recorder.
Thanks.
I would just follow my advice and odin back to stock its really easy and safe to do. Well if the only apps u have left are bloatware and u dont save anything else i guess u wont need to back anything up before odin. Well the thing its alot easier to root 2.1 then 2.2.
Once ur at 2.1 just do the root process of installing update package twice and after twice ur recovery will turn from blue to green.
follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927
the eclair guide
heres the steps for download mode just in case:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
So, is this the right link from the guide you posted, it's amazing, I read so many things today that It's easy to get a little well, brain farty, ya know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Also, I have the kies mini drivers installed, that's how I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 so I assume those will work fine?
BTW, this is the coolest community, props to all involved!!!
Now, I edited my post I think while you were replying, any rom suggestions for a simple user who likes minimal applications but just a well running phone that's not clogged to the gills with stuff?

Yep, that seems to be the consensus, thank you
Guys,
A huge thanks, odin'd back to 2.1, rooted, removed the bloatware I didn't want, gonna make a nandroid back, then proceed on to bionix.
I can understand how first time users can get nervous but once done, the process really is not that hard, just takes patience and making sure everything is prep'd before doing so.
I hope I can now help others if you guys don't beat me to it first
My only question is this: when I create my nandroid backup, where does it go and do I need to save it somewhere just in case like a usb key or something along those lines or does it reside on the phone. Only asking cause I have not yet done this step
U can always make a extra backup and store them on ur ext sd
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Okay, so I assume the backup, made from rom manager "backup current rom" gets stored to the internal memory on the phone?
Any special settings or it just does it's thing, should be smaller than normal as I removed quite a bit of junk and stuff.
i did what you said and i still cant get into clockwork recovery screen! i went back to stock rom, reinstalled packages twice and i still have samsung recovery. i know i have root because i get the super user asking me to give clockwork root access!
So I assume you odin'd back to 2.1, rooted have installed titanimum backup and busy box, rom manager, tapped the flash clockworkmod recovery, then "reboot in recovery" choose update. I rebooted via the rom manager menu, not via the phone itself. I had to update twice immediately, didn't reboot and do it again. I saw it installing and it kinda hung, then used the volume down to update again, and was completed.
Also after installing titanium there was an update for super user, which I also installed as well. Did you do this? Not sure if it has any bearing but thought it was worth mentioning.
It worked seamlessly for me, I had to update twice, then purple turned to green and all is well.
Can you post your steps you took to get back to 2.1, how you rooted, etc etc?
It's kinda fresh in my mind as I only did it about 2 hours ago.
my screw up after i flashed clockwork and rebooted i didnt apply package. all is good now. thx for all the info!
Anytime, I found the process to be quite interesting and taught me alot and also removed my fear of installing new roms and such.
Make sure to create your backup through rom manager. When you do, it will reboot into clockwordrecovery and show you the progress, didn't take that long for mine but I removed alot of nonesense from 2.1. This will be your emergency fall back, you might know this already but just making sure, as I am quite a noob at this point ROFL!
Enjoy
ps - I still can't decide on a new rom, I'm so fussy about stuff, ugh.

First, locate your caps lock and TURN IT OFF. Next locate your period key and put them on the end of your sentences. Making sense of your post is giving me a headache.
Now, on your computer you need to disable the "hide file extensions for known file types" option to fix the zip.zip problem. Can't give you exact directions since you didn't say which os you're using.

I have the same problem and I tried to get in through the clorkworkMod adb shell, but the device is not recognized by adb...? When the device boots up it is recognized. with my DINC I could use the shell while in clorkworkmod.
Is it showing as device offline or not showing the device at all. If its offline, through cmd, close adb server, then start it back up, half the time that fixed that problem for me. If its not showing at all, try setting it to HTC Sync i believe was the one i had to do at one point for it to register. I've rooted 4 times using ADB method and each time its been a little different, so i can't narrow down what i'm doing wrong to help you more with the adb, sorry.

Hi All and thanks to all the cats on here that willfully give their knowledge! I have a Tbolt - Rooted with Revolutionary, stock rom (removed VZ Bloat via Titanium ), but this latest OTA update is not leaving me alone. I try to reject it and magically a few days later I get out of nowhere reboot and then the android exclamation point with a triangle. I use the Clockwork Mod Recovery to wipe data cache and reboot which makes the update manager get upset saying it failed. The error I see in Clockwork is this:
CWM Recovery V5.0.2.1
E: Failed to verify whole file signature
E: Signature Verification Failed
Install Aborted
So how can I get this update (I am assuming it is to fix the HTC fail for new exploit out there) which I think would be a good thing. I am not ready to flash a custom ROM yet so please don't reply saying "Just flash with my favorite ROM"
Thanks ahead of time!
It pushes the update, and if you don't reject within 3 mins, viola, you have a nice new update. If you can still get into recovery, which it sounds you can, install a stock rooted either full or debloated. Thats the updated equivalent to what you have now. Make sure you grab the rooted though. Here is the full rooted (not debloated) http://www.multiupload.com/H06XI7W380

Working ReRecovery. Thanks to Tenfar BTW. This is technical and some say maybe hard to read eh....
JUST SKIP TO POST 2 for a good outline of how our bootstrap functionality has changed w/ RR.
Downloads and Updates are in post 3.
Noob Q&A is in middle of 3.
PURPOSE: Use to flash duplicates of all files needed to renew Tenfars cwr (our standby) during a cwr "run" where the current installation could be made inoperable by a rom flash and/or data wipe.
Just be sure to flash it BEFORE YOU REBOOT SYSTEM NOW.
Once you flash this you do not have to reinstall tenfars again. That is because you always be overwriting one instance for a new one.
Charge mode is not available. However I do believe charging does occur normally in cwr.
If you do a Privacy>Data reset you will need to run the apk again. OR
Run the apk for any reason.
It will take over again.
Think of this as a "save your a$$ button". You will have a working cwr if your phone can boot- be sure to try a battery pull if it won't boot on first try. If needed the pull will make BUs, made on this "emergency boot", have a very old date.
Remember to flash at the last to save your a$$.
Remember too when the ROM BOMBS you must P P P .
PULL the battery, PUSH the battery back in and PLUG in the charger.
I wish I could make a rhyme like : “If it doesn't fit, you must acquit.”
I must digress here for Noobs: (BTW CWR = BSR)
Did you Know:
You do not have run "MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk" aka "System Recovery" in your app drawer to get to BootStrapRecovery! Once you choose recovery mode and the phone goes to CWR thereafter the phone will always go to BSR when you plug-in and power off. If this is news to you try it right now. More news: while you are in BSR unplug the charger & pull the battery, put the battery back and plug-in. CWR (BSR) will boot. ReRecovery sets up the same conditions (files and stuff) that you just tested out to take your phone into BSR. With ReRecovery you have no choice power off OR battery pull along with plugging-in = BSR. BUT ReRecovery is flashed from BSR so you can refresh BSR anytime! Like after a Data wipe which kills BSR OR after a ROM flash which kills BSR OR after restoring a wiped Nandroid which also kills BSR. Sorry for the long rant but that is life with a locked bootloader.
From DaveRichardson (Thanks Dave)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21116880&postcount=26
Why use this instead of our " MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk" isn't it the same? It is the same. But a feature of cwr w/ an unlocked BL is you flash a rom and wipe data the bootstrap does not rely on anything in data or system. Not so with a locked BL. It can be a headache when the rom crashes yet you can sill boot but YOU JUST WIPED AWAY YOUR BOOTSTRAP!
THIS allows you to refresh bootstrap as the final step in any cwr session.
NB:
All benefit of this hack occurs because YOU remember to flash it to save yourself .
Attached Zips to flash from cwr.
Flash from cwr - Tenfar's.
Older updates are 1st. GoTo Attached files for latest updates.
****update*****
Maybe not so minor if you don't understand what it's doing.
On screen notifications/help now may help you understand better how to use it.
1st DL looks/is the same as the installed apk and now gives on screen notices/help: zReRecovery.Dx2.PI.notice.v3.zip
2nd DL ( also gives notices/help ) has Atrix at the top of the homescreen so YOU know you are on the flashed version when you shutdown.
This is just a reassurance that it works: zReRecovery.OLY.PI.notice.v3.zip.
I have used this as an alternate for ours and it is ,as far as I know, fine.
Either one you choose, it needs to be flashed ( from cwr ) as the last cwr step to save you
All action happens while YOU are in CWR AND BEFORE YOU REBOOT SYSTEM NOW.
When should RR be flashed? Ans: after a data wipe, a rom flash or restore. Just as the last step if any or all are done in one session.
***UPDATE NOW A CM7 VERSION***
I nandroided back to 234 stock, flashed cm7 and gapps, wiped all and flashed RRcm7, pulled battery and it booted to cwr.
3rd DL : zReRecovery.Dx2.CM7.PI.notice.v4.zip
***IN SUPPORT OF VOODOO RK***
For those of us that have trouble rooting 235 with Zurg Rush and it's variants. Root 234 w/ Pete's and use Root Keeper before upgrading to 235.
http://androiddev.orkitra.com/download/apps/?appid=-2821155941944302146 One of the rare non-market links. Put it on your SD. RK has an option to delete OR re-enable SU backup. It is there for good reason. The latest Eclipse bombs when being flashed w/ the BU present. Just REMEMBER to delete it b4 you flash OR use RR and it will catch you so you can just nand back to delete it.
*** update ***
I have found RRcm7 to work for Ace's Miui. Just be aware that if flashing a non 2nd init rom, flash RRdx2 first to be safe. BUT if the dx2 bsr has already been put in effect the RRcm7 does work as a "do it all" Until a need becomes apparent just use each on their respective roms.
Q and A
How to boot to cwr without using the apk? (This only works if charge mode is never put back to normal)
Just power off while the charger is plugged in. Or if stuck at the big M pull the battery put back and plugin.
What is "Safe Boot"? It is booting w/o loading anything in /data.
Power on and at the big M hold the menu key till you get to the vibration and you will see "safe mode". Miui will just loop here BTW.
What is Android recovery good for? Stock is good for
1> flashing an OTA update, rather/better than the system auto update, (no need to rename it just make it start w/ a number so it will be first in a mess of zips at the root of your removable sd)
And
2> wiping data. When your ROM hangs at the M OR you never feel the "I am done booting" vibration and it keeps looping.
How to choose DIY update rather than Auto? When the update notice appears choose download only. When the DL finishes choose install later. Goto /cache to find the Blur.zip and the md5. Use Root Explorer>properties to check that the md5s match. Rename the Blur.zip 1Blur.zip and paste it at the root of your SD removable card. Power off>Power on>as you see the Big M push the rocker down>keep pushing down 8 times>push up>you will see the green creature AND OF COURSE HE IS TELLING YOU TO PUSH THE ROCKER AGAIN but IN THE MIDDLE like BOTH AT THE SAME TIME! (rant off)>choose "apply update from sdcard" and it will let you pick.
Put the empty FILE : ".hidenandroidprogress" in your cwm folder and cut 1/3 off your bu / restore times.
I add descriptors to replace the seconds: "2011-08-21.09.13.CheeseC".
Never use spaces in a nandroid bu name. It will cause md5 mismatch .
Terminology rant: (work in progress)
For this page.
BootStrapRecovery BSR is the same as CWR or CWMR.
Yet there is a need to distinguish the methods used to install the
recoveries from the recoveries.
The (CWR or BSR) "recovery" is a zip in our locked boot loader phone. In contrast to a (.img) image for an open boot loader.
These zips are in each apk (links @ end of post) and have a common name: update-recovery.zip. The UD-R.zip is the "kernel" of the recovery. ReRecoveryxxxx.zip is similar to the apk in that it installs the "kernel" but from cwmr and giving you no options.
Once booted and @ the green cwmr home screen you may flash any of the "UpDate-Recovery.zips that are in the apks below. A apk is just a zip. Root Explorer>extract all. Its in the assets folder and flashable from cwr. And jump from one cwr to another....you can even jump to one of the latest touch recoveries http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.8-olympus.zip (w/ the fstab taken out of http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.5-daytona.zip and put in the former) that can BU to tarballs and mount usb ext sd but won't restore....
Sub rant re: RM (very restrained)
Example : Rom Manager (the famous apk) lists a recovery for our phone the Daytona which leads many to install the apk and the recovery which does nothing but frustrate noobs. Not only does RM install a cwmr.zip that bombs it puts it in folders where our phone could never utilize it.
Our bsr.apk puts the cwmr.zip in the folders that the same apk sets up for charge mode hijacking. RM fails and our BSR.apk succeeds in setting up the phone to run the cwmr.zip (the "kernel") which runs in place of the stock recovery.
Rants off
Milestone X2 users Try to use this Dx2 apk first:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166508&highlight=bootstrap OR
Copy and paste your own bootstrap:
DL zReRecovery.Dx2.PI.notice.v3.zip
You need Root Explorer , ES file explorer Or any root file explorer that sets permissions.
Extract all and paste 8 files (not the folders) to the same folders in your root dir (not the dir: root that is always empty) that you found them in the zip.
1)paste to /preinstall: the 5 files and set perms to all-rwxrwxrwx but adbd: rw-rw-rw-.
2)Change charge_only_mode (not the .bin file-leave that alone) ( your original in system/bin) to .bak. Then paste the 2 /system/bin files. Set perms to all- rwxrwxrwx
3)Then .recovery_mode goes in /data. Set perms to rw-rw-rw-. Power off and Plug in. CWR
Ignore the meta-inf file.
End roll your own BSR.
Testing.
Note after each you will still be able to boot to system and reinstall the "bsr.apk" if there is a problem.
1st >
test the RR version you choose by flashing it w/o flashing anything else THEN pull the battery and see if cwr boots.
2nd>
A good test is to: make a BU, I have learned that the easiest test, while you are still in cwr after a BU, is to Advanced Restore the cache of the BU just made. now if there is a problem It will say md5 miss-match. If it does choose backup & Restore> external> restore and note the BU you just made. Reboot sys and view your clockworkmod/backup folder and look for the one you just made- If it disappeared - post here. If the cache restore completed then you should be ok.
THEN: wipe data from cwr, flash RR, pull battery and see if cwr boots and then of course restore the BU you just made.

If this works as u say it should then this is almost what everybody was wanting months ago when we figured out flashing a ROM or wiping data takes away ability to boot to BSR by power off and plug in until it gets reinstalled...
I will test once I have a computer for that "oh **** I really DO Need to sbf now" moment lol...just in case ,
I know it works Ash. Do you? Just examine the dates of .recovery_mode in /data and hijack in /system/bin and see that /preinstall is vacant b4 and populated after. Then ininstall sr while recovery mode is still active. Reboot and?????????????

Just was sayin why I myself wasn't going go test it at this time.
Great work.
This would have been very helpful to have the.last time I bricked. Would have saved me 36hrs of not having a phone . And it would have also saved me from having to stay the night at this girl I work with house(who has a thing for me even tho I constantly say blatantly and show I ain't interested) just to use a computer to fix my phone lol.
once again...good stuff...this is great. being able to flash knowing if something goes awry we can just power down and plug in without having to already have opened the app...

Wait a minute
Doesn't this mean this can be just baked right into a ROM somehow so when we flash it we won't have to flash something after? It could just be installed WITH ROM?
You can RI SR to get options back I think. The apk takes priority. Try It out.

does this mean that we don't have to be plugged in to put into the BSR? Or do we still have to be plugged in on the initial boot?
or is this just BSR with a twist?

so thus you do need to be plugged into run this.
do you still need to have BSR installed on the phone? or can we uninstall the apk and still run the hack?
Yes and that is also a minor test of its working.
well no you need it to flash than yes.
Sorry so just flash the first zip file as normal? And if anything goes bad just pull battery and plug in correct?
Yes. Just do it last. If the rom bombs the you must pull.
Running 2.3.4 version 4.5.91 ATT/US SBF I believe, stock kernel, unlocked bootloader, rooted, and have Tenfar's CWM recovery.
I accidentally accepted the download for update to v4.5.141 (after hitting "Later" 1000 times), but had wifi turned off at the time and the download never started... now I can't turn back on wifi because the download will automatically start (triangle! with "Enable Wi-Fi to start download update" in notifications), and I don't want to brick the device if it runs and I can't cancel the install.
What can I do to cancel the OTA download and/or install and avoid bricking the device?
Any help is appreciated.
Hmm. I know it's possible to "freeze" the update notification (that is, either use the pro version of titanium backup, or put .bak after the appropriate system app). A few other threads have detailed how to do this.
You just accidentally downloaded it, right? It shouldn't install automatically; it would pop up another "install" vs. "later" prompt once the download finishes. I know there's another post around here (stickied?) that details how to back up your OTA update. You could probably use that thread to find your downloaded file & delete it.
Alternately, since you're unlocked you could always install another rom and skip the OTA process entirely. For example, Nottachtrix is based on the 4.5.141 build and comes with a stock Gingerbread theme if you want.
Thanks, I did see those threads you mentioned.
Before my mistake, I had already tried renaming /system/app/Upgrader.apk to .bak with root explorer, and rebooting to stop the download update popup... it didn't work, and kept prompting me, which I eventually accidentally accepted instead of hitting "Later".
I don't have the Pro version of TiBU Pro; I was thinking of upgrading it to freeze Upgrader when I was trying to stop the download update prompts, but as I mentioned I accepted the download before I could do that.
I was also considering flashing Nottachtrix since that seemed to be the only safe way I saw to update to 4.5.141 with the unlocked bootloader. can I safely flash that now, even though the update is pending?
I'll be honest and say I don't know with certainty. BUT -- I don't see why you couldn't download Nottachtrix on your computer, drop it onto your phone's SD card, and flash it from there (without ever turning your phone's wifi back on). Your phone is booted & not in the middle of an active install. It's just waiting to download a file which would requires your input to begin installing anyway.
If you're really concerned about it, you could do the Seriously Complete Wipe before flashing the new rom by using the following method (thanks CaelanT):
For the best results, when you want to flash a new ROM you should always perform a full wipe in fastboot per the following to make sure you will avoid any unforeseen complications:
reboot to recovery
wipe Dalvik
reboot to fastboot
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
fastboot reboot (to recovery)
flash ROM
reboot

One more note: it looks like Tenfar's recovery is considered "old" round these parts, and most roms don't play well unless you flash them using romracer's CWM recovery. So that should probably be your first step. It's here.
thanks for the recommendations. I guess I will uninstall Tenfar's recovery, install romracer's recovery, do the Seriously Complete Wipe, and then flash Nottachrix. Let me know if any of that sounds wrong.
Will I lose my apps or my titanium backup of apps & system data by doing the Seriously Complete Wipe? If so what do I need to do to be able to restore my apps and system data after the wipe & flash?
Hey, no problem at all. (by the way, you don't need to uninstall your current recovery, just flash the new one per the instructions.)
Oh yeah, a second note: you'll need to rename two particular files before flashing the new recovery. From another stickied thread:
Anyone having issues not being able to boot into CWM recovery after flashing it (such as seeing android guy with exclamation mark):
Delete or rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh AND /etc/install-recovery.sh I renamed mine to bkup.install-recovery.sh in case i ever wanted to use them again for some reason.
/etc/install-recovery.sh will automatically be placed in /system/etc if /system/etc/install-recovery.sh is not found on boot.
So, you must delete or rename both, THEN INSTALL CWM recovery.
rename the files using ROM Toolbox's root explorer as some file explorers will not give you the proper access levels to delete or rename the files correctly.c

Okay, on to apps & data. Yes, you're going to lose all your data in the wipes, but the backups you made will be intact. TiBu is fine for your apps; I use "MyBackup Root" (free on the market) for my contacts, SMS, MMS, etc. After flashing the new rom, you'll have the market pre-installed. Use it to re-download TiBu, restore your backed-up apps (NOT EVER system data. Just apps+their data.), then restore the rest from there.
I did everything, and it worked well. thanks for confirming it was safe and the extra tips!
I had already uninstalled Tenfar's recovery by the time I saw your response. I thought it may conflict, didn't know.
I didn't have to rename those 2 files to be able to boot into CWM recovery... the files weren't present before or after installing CWM recovery and it worked.
Thanks again for the tips on the seriously complete wipe and the MyBackup Root, they worked well.
Almost everything was restored after flashing the ROM except for a few minor settings. I somehow have a ton of contacts because I have all my Google contacts, my Blur contacts (a lot of dupes of Google ones), and a lot of extra old gmail e-mail contacts that I wish it didn't populate. Nothing to complain about because I would rather there be extra unnecessary contacts than missing ones.
The only issues I have is that the ROM shows the 3G img at all times... so I have to do some speed tests and troubleshooting to see if I am stuck in 3G or if it is just the known bug in the ROM where 3G is always displayed.
I have N_01.77.30P radio and I saw some people are running 36 or 37, and some people on AT&T installed an additional APN that improved performance.
If anyone has any input on the 3G, radio, or APN issues, please let me know.
atrix issues
Hello members,
i am new to android and learning to understand the jargon of experts here. Reason for joining xda is following:
I (from India) have a motorola atrix 4g that i purchased from a friend in US (it was on AT&T.)
1) when I start my phone -is says on top unlocked. Does it means it is unlocked / unrooted? and I cannot install the OTA updates from Motorola like ICS 4 coming in Q3?
2) I clicked on system update and downloaded the update over wifi. When it started the install it got failed with a triangle and ! mark. I had to remove the battery and start the phone after which it kept on rebooting . Saw in some forum that i had to do a factory reset and after doing that it worked but I lost everything. I had to reinstall all the apps. Is there a way to reinstall the latest OTA updates from Motorola with doing / playing much with ROM? if not then please let me know a simple and safe way.
3) After doing factory reset i accidentally clicked on system update and now the update is downloaded over wifi but i did not install by selecting "install later" . However the popup keeps coming up and i want to disable it. kindly advise how this notification can be stopped.
Thanks in advance
Update: C Spire would not give me a SBF file. None of the employees even knew what I was talking about. I had to show the rep how to perform a manual factory reset from recovery because she and the other employees had no idea. They gave me a new X2 as a Warranty Replacement.
I ran a de-blur script from the Motorola Photon forums and it ran fine for a while. I was doing some backups from BSR and accidentally formatted /data. I have no access to BSR at the moment, only stock recovery. I then ran a factory reset through stock recovery. I can get as far as setting up my gmail account and then I am taken to the Accounts Setup screen, Facebook, Corporate Sync, Twitter, etc. I cannot get past this screen. If I hit done adding accounts I get force close on "process.com.motorola.setup". I assume this is happening because of some missing blur files. If I hit my home button, nothing happens. I thought that this was because the stock launcher was missing, but I also have zeam, nemus and Go launchers installed. When I plug my phone in via usb, it takes me straight into usb storage mode. I keep trying to use adb but get a device error message. I cannot get into the phone's settings to see if usb debugging is enabled or not. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. I do not have a SBF for my carrier. I've already attempted to sbf with the 2.3.5 ntelos file but get a Fail message at the end.

I tried to sbf with the Ntelos 2.3.5 file that is in the forums, but got a FAIL message at the end
Here is a link to a tutorial written by MoonShadow on how to do this...make sure you have the proper file to sbf with

I do not have a SBF file for my carrier
Actuality carrier doesn't matter BTW but milestone x2 mb867 does.
I am trying the Ntelos sbf again following the instructions by moonshadow and will report back in a minute
Why would u use something meant for the photon on ur mx2?
U may have been fine if u never did a data wipe(I know first happened on accident) but I think data wipe will turn off USB debugging. Unless u had privacy setting to backup settings to google(,which even still it might not work) and then u can get Gmail to sync ur settings back into place u might be able to push the files needed for recovery (maybe the ones from skwoodwiva rerecovery thread)
But if u can't get adb to connect, and can't get past the force close to install bsr and load ur backup, and don't have sbf ability, then you very well might be screwed(aka call up asurion)
I don't know much about fast boot, but isn't there a way to enable adb from there?
Then u might, big might as I am not the one who can tell ya how, be able to get the needed files in place with correct perms set to be able to power down and load bsr
Good luck
Let us know if u have a solution

Thanks for your input, I got the de-blur script from here: Universal De-Blur for all motoblur phones I ran the phone for a while with the script with no problems, it was when I wiped data that I screwed myself. Will keep working on it. I just tried the SBF again and I get: Failed Flashing Process. I doubt using a Verizon SBF will do me any good.

Ahh gotcha
I just remembered a while back seeing the one meant for photon but when u used it it would delete things that caused force closed for x2
(Still tho, the x2 I learned is such a picky phone that I really never recommend ANYTHING that wasn't developed specifically for the x2, even when they say universal)
If u do end up having to get replacement (assurion) u might as well try an sbf with vzw files here and root and restore nandroid just to see if its possible and works...
no problem trafalger. I cannot find another way to enable usb bugging other than getting into the phone's settings, which I cannot do. I am able to get in to network and location settings through the voice commands but that is it. Guess I am screwed
Someone did try it won't go. Only dx2 will take, poorly(one way!) the mx2 sbf but not the other way round.
Back when I had a Milestone X, I tried a Verizon SBF and got bricked....I guess I will get dressed and head over to C Spire Wireless and hope they have one in stock for a warranty exchange....
I found an app on the Android Market that enables usb debugging, however, says it is not compatible with the X2. Any other ideas?
Our sbf to your 236 may be the brick you want that would stick @ M.

On 2nd, you might get a Dx2 without data & what could you say then.

Whatever demand a sbf
SBF that will make the phone work but no calling or network
I know this doesn't help much but I am experienced the exact same problem. I found an SBF that will make the phone simply work, but it will not have network access. I have tried activating it from CSpire's webpage, but it just won't connect. To top that off the SBF I am using will not allow root either. I get a permission denied in most cases when I try the fastboot method.
I would like to issue a warning for all CSpire users with the Motorola Milestone X2
Rooting is difficult at best, there are no .sbf files out there to back up your phone.
If you screw up you are going to have to convince the CSpire folks that it was an inherent software error and give you a warranty replacement.
