Update: C Spire would not give me a SBF file. None of the employees even knew what I was talking about. I had to show the rep how to perform a manual factory reset from recovery because she and the other employees had no idea. They gave me a new X2 as a Warranty Replacement.
I ran a de-blur script from the Motorola Photon forums and it ran fine for a while. I was doing some backups from BSR and accidentally formatted /data. I have no access to BSR at the moment, only stock recovery. I then ran a factory reset through stock recovery. I can get as far as setting up my gmail account and then I am taken to the Accounts Setup screen, Facebook, Corporate Sync, Twitter, etc. I cannot get past this screen. If I hit done adding accounts I get force close on "process.com.motorola.setup". I assume this is happening because of some missing blur files. If I hit my home button, nothing happens. I thought that this was because the stock launcher was missing, but I also have zeam, nemus and Go launchers installed. When I plug my phone in via usb, it takes me straight into usb storage mode. I keep trying to use adb but get a device error message. I cannot get into the phone's settings to see if usb debugging is enabled or not. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. I do not have a SBF for my carrier. I've already attempted to sbf with the 2.3.5 ntelos file but get a Fail message at the end.

I do not have a SBF file for my carrier
Actuality carrier doesn't matter BTW but milestone x2 mb867 does.
I am trying the Ntelos sbf again following the instructions by moonshadow and will report back in a minute
Why would u use something meant for the photon on ur mx2?
U may have been fine if u never did a data wipe(I know first happened on accident) but I think data wipe will turn off USB debugging. Unless u had privacy setting to backup settings to google(,which even still it might not work) and then u can get Gmail to sync ur settings back into place u might be able to push the files needed for recovery (maybe the ones from skwoodwiva rerecovery thread)
But if u can't get adb to connect, and can't get past the force close to install bsr and load ur backup, and don't have sbf ability, then you very well might be screwed(aka call up asurion)
I don't know much about fast boot, but isn't there a way to enable adb from there?
Then u might, big might as I am not the one who can tell ya how, be able to get the needed files in place with correct perms set to be able to power down and load bsr
Good luck
Let us know if u have a solution

Thanks for your input, I got the de-blur script from here: Universal De-Blur for all motoblur phones I ran the phone for a while with the script with no problems, it was when I wiped data that I screwed myself. Will keep working on it. I just tried the SBF again and I get: Failed Flashing Process. I doubt using a Verizon SBF will do me any good.

Ahh gotcha
I just remembered a while back seeing the one meant for photon but when u used it it would delete things that caused force closed for x2
(Still tho, the x2 I learned is such a picky phone that I really never recommend ANYTHING that wasn't developed specifically for the x2, even when they say universal)
If u do end up having to get replacement (assurion) u might as well try an sbf with vzw files here and root and restore nandroid just to see if its possible and works...
no problem trafalger. I cannot find another way to enable usb bugging other than getting into the phone's settings, which I cannot do. I am able to get in to network and location settings through the voice commands but that is it. Guess I am screwed
Someone did try it won't go. Only dx2 will take, poorly(one way!) the mx2 sbf but not the other way round.
Back when I had a Milestone X, I tried a Verizon SBF and got bricked....I guess I will get dressed and head over to C Spire Wireless and hope they have one in stock for a warranty exchange....
I found an app on the Android Market that enables usb debugging, however, says it is not compatible with the X2. Any other ideas?
Our sbf to your 236 may be the brick you want that would stick @ M.

Whatever demand a sbf
SBF that will make the phone work but no calling or network
I know this doesn't help much but I am experienced the exact same problem. I found an SBF that will make the phone simply work, but it will not have network access. I have tried activating it from CSpire's webpage, but it just won't connect. To top that off the SBF I am using will not allow root either. I get a permission denied in most cases when I try the fastboot method.
I would like to issue a warning for all CSpire users with the Motorola Milestone X2
Rooting is difficult at best, there are no .sbf files out there to back up your phone.
If you screw up you are going to have to convince the CSpire folks that it was an inherent software error and give you a warranty replacement.

I finally took the plunge and tried to sbf my X2 from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4. Thanks to DAG425 and his instructions, it worked like a charm. I re-rooted with Pete's root tools. I just wanted to inform u of why u still had all your settings and apps etc...
When you do an SBF, it only flashes the /system partition (as far as I understand it )
It outs all of those files back the way they should be if there is something screwy "under the hood" so to speak. It doesn't touch USER data. (Apps, settings, contacts etc...)
The only time you will lose all that stuff after SBF is if you are bootlooping after the sbf and need to data wipe from stock recovery in order to get it to stop bootlooping. The data wipe is what gets rid of all apps and settings and etc...sbf os all about restoring your system to stock condition.(bootlooping occurs after some sbf due to some user data and tweaks left over from use of different ROMS. thus the data wipe is necessary to get rid if that "rouge" data and allow the phone to boot properly.
Someone else can definitely explain this better and in more detail than I just did
But that is pretty much the basics. Thanks in advance to anyone who corrects any falsehood in my explanation.
That makes perfect sense actually. I had expected to have to wipe my data because most of the things I had read said that the X2 was known for bootlooping after an sbf. Either way, I'm nothing complaining. Lol thanks for the Information though

Yup
I didn't take.it as complaint.
Lol...I just wanted to inform u as to why u didn't lose data.
u wont.lose data if ye just using sbf to update and u weren't modded to the point ya.phones system got confused afterwards lol...
A lot.of people think sbf will.wipe their phone and.I am.trying to squash that rumor....data wipe.cleans that...NOT sbf
So I think I may have screwed myself. I was following this guide for changing the battery icon to 1% increments instead of 10%, went to reboot and now my photon is stuck on the Motorola Dual Core technology screen. I can't get adb to recognize it and its been stuck like this for a good 20 minutes. Any thoughts? Am I screwed?
i had this exact problem 3 nights ago
Download rsdlite 5.3.9 , 5.0 would not support the phone.
download either 198-6 or 198-7 sbf found in the devolpment sections
you can flash it with the rsdlite program by booting to rsd, Vol up + power
make sure you have full battery and it will reboot a couple times on its own at the end i had to do a manual reboot but it told me i needed to. your phone will reactivate on reboot
I've been trying to boot to RSD but it seems stuck on that as well.
EDIT: sorry I guess I didn't realize I need RSDlite to make this work. I found a youtube video with links on how to flash this sbf so hopefully this will work. Downloading the 400+mb sbf file now (slow internet so its gonna be ~40 minutes), but after that I'll try flashing.
Are you unable to boot into rsd mode even after pulling the battery? If so then I'm not sure that you will be able to use the sbf file to go back to stock. It's worth a try either way though I suppose if worst comes to worse you can take it back to sprint.

I didn't realize I needed RSDLite to push the SBF (I really had no idea what rsd mode was). I managed to find a video from qbking on how to unbrick the Photon and follow that. It worked and I am back to where I was.
Thanks guys and a special thanks to Shabbypenguin who helped talk me through the ordeal a bit on IRC.
So I got my Photon up and running again but...I can't make calls with it. I tried to Update profile/Update PRL just to see what would happen but...they both result in force closes on settings and bringing me back to About Phone. I'm going to try and have Sprint reactivate it but...anyone have any thoughts?
You may want to do a factory data reset before trying to flash the sbf again via rsdlite.

So I managed to reactivate my phone with Sprint. However now I have no data (unless roaming). I read that I may have to update PRL in About phone to get my data back but...whenever I try to update PRL or profile it force closes.
Anything I can do to fix this? I restored everything I had frozen via titanium backup but perhaps something is missing here that is force closing those two?
Durp. Factory reset solved this issue. Data/phone capabilities restored and customization process, take 2, begins now.
Thanks to those that helped again and hopefully this thread will help someone should they soft brick their photon.

I am having similar issues as described in this thread with flashing my Photon (back to stock). I forgot to factory reset before I began the flash process and now I can't get access to the O/S so my question is how do you do a factory reset without going into the Android O/S? Can you do this from fastboot/nvflash/RSD?
Please I need answers to this issue, not people blaming me for being such a noob. I reprogrammed a Verizon Droid Razr for my colleague here in Nigeria, we both work for a CDMA network. The phone was fine, voice, text and data working until yesterday he told me the phone lost network. I asked him what happened before then and he told me he did an update (the ICS update), so everything went back to Verizon defaults and I needed to reprogram again. I got to reprogram it today but there was no data so I figured I would go back to GB 6.12.181 which the phone was on before the update. I chose DroidRAZR Utility 1.6 which I have on my laptop to do the job. After this my woes began. The phone now stops at the Motorola logo and after that goes blank. I tried again but it was the same response, and I discovered that the recovery changed too, and where I should hit both volume buttons to get the option to wipe all I see is automatic update inside recovery. I tried to remove the sdcard, but I guess the update file he received is in the internal storage. How can I get the phone working again, whether on ICS or GB, whichever would work. Or do we have a total brick? Please I need urgent answers. Thank you all.
Pls people, Help Me!
After Upgrading to ICS you CANNOT downgrade back to 2.3 again, part of ICS does NOT allow downgrading, if its CDMA and you can get to bootstrap you could flash the ROM again, use the sdcard in another device to copy the rom, but it MUST be ICS you CANNOT install GB anymore

Thanks for your reply lashton. Please can you point me to a guide on how I can restore the phone to ICS. It is stuck on Invalid Flash Mode now and the battery is low, but I want to make a factory cable to use tomorrow and see if I can get the phone working again. I just need to know this is possible to restore to ICS.
Thanks.
What you have is soft brick. And yes you will be able to go back to ics but now gingerbread. Look online there are plenty of people that have soft bricked their phones thinking they could just go back to GB. Lol including me. Happy digging! =)

Please dear sir Chuckleb0ne, kindly guide me on how to do this since you have experienced it before. I have only till tomorrow to get this working as the phone has my friend's official company line on it, he must be able to use it for calls tomorrow. Down on my knees, tears streaming down my eyes... pleading for help...
OK. I managed to construct a factory cable and it supplied power to the phone, so far so good. I tried to use Droid Utility 1.7 to unbrick (option 2) but it didn't work, I mean the fastboot flash went through but I still cannot go further than the Invalid Flash Mode screen, no matter what. I can't even go into recovery. That's a major issue, I think. If I could get into recovery I could sideload the ICS zip I copied on the sdcard with the Utility tool. I next tried option 1, which is Prepare for sideloading ICS on any GB. It didn't work either. Please people, what next before I go crazy. We do not have Verizon here so their support is out of the question, or even returning the phone. I must fix this, with your help, because I have run out of ideas here. Help needed!
Try to boot through BP Tools. The phone must be unplugged. If you can reboot that way then just rewrite the boot .img, I want to say its option 9? Kinda sounds like what happened with my phone, but after I saw the dead android with the door open I believe I could still get into stock recovery and side load .211.
Guys, I got it back on. I used DroidRazr Utility 1.6, 1.7 and this file - Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip, all three in combination. the blur file on my sdcard, fastboot restore to 181 with Utility 1.6, move into recovery, wipe data and cache, fastboot 211 boot.img from Utility 1.7, back to recovery, flash the blur file on sdcard... ladies and gentlemen, we have a working Droid RAZR on ICS 211. Happy mode activated...
Nice job ezeuba! I'm trying to find a way to get my RAZR back to GB because I HATE ICS. I've been using it for 2 days and I want to smash my phone. I keep finding people saying that it is not possible, although I have found 1 or 2 references stating that it may be possible but is very risky. I am willing to take any risk at this point as my phone is pretty much useless to me now anyway and it is at very high risk of being utterly destroyed. It amazes me how fast you can go from love to hate with a device. This fiasco reminds me of the day I "upgraded" from Windows XP to Vista. At least Microsoft left me the option to go back...
Question: When you did "fastboot restore to 181 with Utility 1.6", were you back to a working GB 181? Were you forced to move "up" to ICS or was it your choice? Thanks in advance for any information!
See! Once you do a little digging you come up with a solution. And now you probably feel incredible for doing it yourself.

To answer your question first, no I didn't have a choice to stay on Gb or move up to ICS. I only did fastboot to 181 with Utility 1.6 in order for the phone to even boot up to recovery. Prior to that I only had "Invalid Flash Mode" error, no recovery, nothing. So, after fastbooting 181 I got to recovery, wiped data and cache, went back to Utility, 1.7 this time, and flashed boot.img for 211, then went back into recovery and sideloaded the downloaded 211 update file on my sdcard. After that could I get full boot to ICS on the phone. No need dreaming of reverting back to GB, it's not possible, at least for now with a locked bootloader.

You are right. Nothing a bit of research would not solve, if you are really determined to get it to work. It was your assurance that it was certain to work that fired me up. I was afraid the phone was dead and about to be buried.
Thanks.
Thanks ezeuba! Fortunately ICS is starting to grow on me. I was able to load the old Gmail app which was my main issue and find some other workarounds for various other issues.
Moto Droid X2 2.3.5 (from stock update). Tried to root, and I think it worked, as I have superuser.
I also downloaded ROM manager, Titanium Backup and RootApp Delete, Goo.Manager.
I tried to install Cyanogen Mod from ROM Manager and regular recovery. ROM manager would not boot into recovery. Regular recovery will not install the custom ROM due to incomplete signature or something. Fearing I had totally done something wrong I googled again ... read that ROM manager can brick an X2 so I deleted.
Then I began to panic. I tried to download, run several other suggestions and now I am totally confused. My phone works, so I don't think it is bricked (Which I assume means it won't work). I am in over my head and I don't understand what I am doing, nor do I know the lingo. I think I have done too many things from too many different suggestions.
So, can someone please rescue me ....
(1) how do I know what I am really running?
(2) how do I know if I am truly rooted?
(3) how do I know what custom ROM to flash
(4) how do I know if I am even asking the right questions?
(5) will any of this will work?
It was recommended on another forum that I do this: Do you have a terminal app? If not, grab one of the free ones from Play Store. Invoke the app, it'll likely then ask for root permission.. if not, look at the terminal screen for a # sign. If it is there, your device is rooted. If a $ is there instead, type su. If it asks for root permission, click or type yes. If you then see the # sign, you're rooted, if "denied" appears, you're not rooted.
I went ahead and chose Terminal IDE. When it opened, I selected Terminal IDE (not install system). It appears as a DOS type screen with a $ symbol. I typed su and granted SuperUser permissions. Now it shows: $su# .... is that correct? In the notification bar, it says Terminal IDE is running. Should this be happening? Do I need to exit or leave it running?
I've now been hanging all day to hopefully find an answer. I realize begging for help is limited to the time someone can offer. So, I am not complaining, I just need some help.

brick is often over used, most motorola droid's, like the droid X2, have a locked bootloader
making them almost unbrickable
if it will not boot, just flash a sbf file with rsd lite
see links in my list
sd_shadow's [Collection] of Links for Droid X2
all roms are flash over 2.3.4, except eclipse 2, which is flashed over 2.3.5
you can verify root with 'root basic' free in play store
but only magic md5 can root 2.3.5
magic md5 root for d2, d2g, dx, & dx2

Clarification
Thanks for clarifying the rom manager question. I also am glad to know it is probably not bricked (although I am just assuming that means it won't work). I am so ignorant and don't know what all these words mean. I am grateful for any tips anyone can share to help me.
I am convinced the phone is rooted, so if that is true and I have SuperUser then I am ready to install a new ROM right?
I am going to say I need the Eclipse 2, since I have 2.3.5 (although I can't see any further #'s). If ROM manager doesn't work, then am I just flashing (which I assume means installing) the Eclipse 2 via the regulary android recovery?? OR is there some other program I need to use??
I have searched your links and I see this: Nandroid Eclipse 2.3 for DX2.7z (Is that right? I don't know what the 2.7z means).
Sorry to ask so many questions, but again I am not too bright on the lingo. I need it in 1st grade terminology! Thanks in advance!!

2. Install Droid X2 BSR/System Recovery

One question was do I need all three, because only the first one works. The bottom links are broken.
Additionally, there are fees for some of the other links? If so, I must wait until I can figure out how to pay for them.
I will go back and follow step by step, and pray this works. It looks very complicated and over my head ....

try wiping data in android recovery
How to Wipe Data (DX2) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317707
17. Whether or not your phone boot loops at this time, I HIGHLY recommend performing a factory reset from the Android Recovery menu. This is also the process of fixing the boot loop.
a. Pull the battery.
b. Plug the battery back in.
c. Power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words FASTBOOT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds.
d. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON 7 times, or until you see the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
e. Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON and the screen will add “Entering Android Recovery” under the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
f. In about 5-7 seconds, you should see a white triangle with a yellow exclamation point in the middle and a little android down and to the right of the triangle.
g. Press both volume buttons at once.
h. The Android system recovery utility (second line of text) will come up.
i. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON until “wipe data/factory reset” is highlighted.
j. Press the power button to start the process.
k. Once the wipe data/factory reset process has completed, press the VOLUME UP BUTTON until reboot is highlighted.
l. Press the power button to reboot your DX2.

I am soooo glad you asked. I was going to come create a new thread, but wasn't sure where to do it. I still need help. I like the ROM and the features. However, my phone is still slow and sluggish. It freezes up on screens. I thought this would help in the performance area. Wish I knew more about this and if there were things I could tweak to make it run smoother!

I will look at it over the weekend. A basic glance seemed really out of my thought process ... hahah!

keep in mind that with 512ish RAM, this phone really suffers in the bringing the beef department. in other words, limit your apps. i try to use the browser for facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc in order to save precious ram. it will lag out like that on just about any rom that we have. i just try to keep an eye on how much ram my apps are using, and also try to keep the ones i dont need closed. i know it wont result in the best phone experience, but this isnt really the best phone....lol. but it is VERY usable.
v6 in my experience hasnt really helped all that much anyway, or enough to even be worth going through the hassle of doing, but you can always give it a shot and see how it works for you.
also, EZSBF isnt to hard to do, you can make a disk and get back to 2.3.4..... under which the options are much more than what you get on 2.3.5 . i run cm9 and it gives me less problems than eclipse ever did. but you are also sacrificing video recording capabilities. again, keep in mind that i dont use many apps besides Falcon pro, and sometimes an extra music app or two. so i have less problems than someone who tries to run a bunch of apps like this is a galaxy nexus or something. lol. just a thought. but there is a LIST of roms to try out under 2.3.4, and a whopping three for 2.3.5. just sayin.
me or shadow can try to suggest things that may help. just let us know.

no need to start another thread, unless it's been several days and it's a very different issue.
you may want to try a different launcher like holo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722308
and widgets can use a lot of memory
So, from what I am understanding, it is a memory/RAM issue? It was never a ROM issue to start with?
I certainly will be glad to follow any detailed instructions on anything that will help, but bear in mind I know comprehend all the abbreviations and other things.
I noticed yesterday after my post it seemed to get worse. I can't seem to back out of the call/contact screen. I have to restart the phone. The battery died by lunch time. I may need to add apps to the auto-end list, but I get confused on what to sync and not to sync.
I was talking to my daughter on the way from work and the phone just restarted on its own.
I don't want to give up the video issue of my phone if I can help it.
I never thought about widgets causing troubles. Perhaps I have too many apps?
I did not like the messaging or the calendar of Eclipse. My texts never showed the time and the the calendar ... well, I just don't care for the light black/dark black theme I guess. Even the email theme isn't my favorite, but not sure how to fix that. So, I downloaded handcent sms and a calendar.
I have 16g memory, which is one of the main reasons I chose this phone as my verizon upgrade last year. Again, never thought about not having enough RAM. I use a 1 tap cleaner, and I thought the cache showed the RAM - say right now it shows Total 1.96GB, Avail: 1.44GB. I can clear things and bump it up to about 1.52. If that is not the RAM, then where do I find it?
Here is how uneducated I am ... if I have the Eclipse ROM, then I am still running the android 2.3.5 as well? I thought rooting and adding a custom ROM raised the android version. Guess not ... I had to google that to see that is called Gingerbread.
I guess I can check out the launchers? What advantages are there to do this? Anyone have a personal favorite?
Sadly, I know enough to know droid trumps the iPhone ... but my kid has the 8gb iPhone 4, has just as many apps, and never has troubles.
I have a Motorola Droid X2. I wanted to try rooting it for fun just to say I did it. Well I did using the .exe file out there that basically does everything for you, real easy. I checked that it was rooted using Root Checker in the Market and it was.
Well then I started having issues with the market and Youtube losing connectivity to the internet, 3G and wifi. It could not connect to the server. Hitting the refresh button worked, but since I really have no need for a rooted phone I wanted to go back to where it was before to not have issues.
I downloaded RSD Lite and downloaded the 2.3.5 SBF file. I successfully flashed it back to 2.3.5 and verified that it was no longer rooted.
My confusion is that the phone is still updated to before. It still has the apps, and the phone has all my Google account contacts/etc and home page layout etc.
If I do a factory reset it will wipe that all out.
I was under the impression the SBF should have done the exact same thing, but it appears as though it did not. I even tried it again and still it did not wipe the phone memory.
Confused...is this right or did something not go right?
I followed this tutorial:
Edit, it won't let me post it.
Google: "how to unroot droid x2" and it's the first link
