Moto Droid X2 2.3.5 (from stock update). Tried to root, and I think it worked, as I have superuser.
I also downloaded ROM manager, Titanium Backup and RootApp Delete, Goo.Manager.
I tried to install Cyanogen Mod from ROM Manager and regular recovery. ROM manager would not boot into recovery. Regular recovery will not install the custom ROM due to incomplete signature or something. Fearing I had totally done something wrong I googled again ... read that ROM manager can brick an X2 so I deleted.
Then I began to panic. I tried to download, run several other suggestions and now I am totally confused. My phone works, so I don't think it is bricked (Which I assume means it won't work). I am in over my head and I don't understand what I am doing, nor do I know the lingo. I think I have done too many things from too many different suggestions.
So, can someone please rescue me ....
(1) how do I know what I am really running?
(2) how do I know if I am truly rooted?
(3) how do I know what custom ROM to flash
(4) how do I know if I am even asking the right questions?
(5) will any of this will work?
It was recommended on another forum that I do this: Do you have a terminal app? If not, grab one of the free ones from Play Store. Invoke the app, it'll likely then ask for root permission.. if not, look at the terminal screen for a # sign. If it is there, your device is rooted. If a $ is there instead, type su. If it asks for root permission, click or type yes. If you then see the # sign, you're rooted, if "denied" appears, you're not rooted.
I went ahead and chose Terminal IDE. When it opened, I selected Terminal IDE (not install system). It appears as a DOS type screen with a $ symbol. I typed su and granted SuperUser permissions. Now it shows: $su# .... is that correct? In the notification bar, it says Terminal IDE is running. Should this be happening? Do I need to exit or leave it running?
I've now been hanging all day to hopefully find an answer. I realize begging for help is limited to the time someone can offer. So, I am not complaining, I just need some help.
rom manager does not work with droid x2

brick is often over used, most motorola droid's, like the droid X2, have a locked bootloader
making them almost unbrickable
if it will not boot, just flash a sbf file with rsd lite
see links in my list
sd_shadow's [Collection] of Links for Droid X2
all roms are flash over 2.3.4, except eclipse 2, which is flashed over 2.3.5
you can verify root with 'root basic' free in play store
but only magic md5 can root 2.3.5
magic md5 root for d2, d2g, dx, & dx2

Clarification
Thanks for clarifying the rom manager question. I also am glad to know it is probably not bricked (although I am just assuming that means it won't work). I am so ignorant and don't know what all these words mean. I am grateful for any tips anyone can share to help me.
I am convinced the phone is rooted, so if that is true and I have SuperUser then I am ready to install a new ROM right?
I am going to say I need the Eclipse 2, since I have 2.3.5 (although I can't see any further #'s). If ROM manager doesn't work, then am I just flashing (which I assume means installing) the Eclipse 2 via the regulary android recovery?? OR is there some other program I need to use??
I have searched your links and I see this: Nandroid Eclipse 2.3 for DX2.7z (Is that right? I don't know what the 2.7z means).
Sorry to ask so many questions, but again I am not too bright on the lingo. I need it in 1st grade terminology! Thanks in advance!!
Before you install a custom rom
1. Root
2. Install Droid X2 BSR/System Recovery
3. backup user data recommended not required
a. backup apps with titanium backup, or rom toolbox
b. backup texts and call log with sms backup +
c. verify that contacts are backed up/ synced
d. Make a Nandroid HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of X2

Just glancing I see this:

Mirror 1
Mirror 2
Mirror 3
One question was do I need all three, because only the first one works. The bottom links are broken.
Additionally, there are fees for some of the other links? If so, I must wait until I can figure out how to pay for them.
I will go back and follow step by step, and pray this works. It looks very complicated and over my head ....
mirrors are copies on different servers, you just need one

Well, as confused as I was ... I think I followed all instructions correctly. Now, upon system reboot it is stuck on the Eclipse screen with the flashing patterns .............. what did I do wrong???? Pulling the battery and turning on after plugging into wall charger doesn't change anything. I could cry ......... I don't even care if it is rooted anymore. I knew this was over my head. Now I can't even call anyone on my phone.
not sure what you mean patterns
could take 2 mins to boot
have to reinstall bsr after installing rom

try wiping data in android recovery
How to Wipe Data (DX2) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317707
17. Whether or not your phone boot loops at this time, I HIGHLY recommend performing a factory reset from the Android Recovery menu. This is also the process of fixing the boot loop.
a. Pull the battery.
b. Plug the battery back in.
c. Power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words FASTBOOT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds.
d. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON 7 times, or until you see the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
e. Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON and the screen will add “Entering Android Recovery” under the words ANDROID RECOVERY.
f. In about 5-7 seconds, you should see a white triangle with a yellow exclamation point in the middle and a little android down and to the right of the triangle.
g. Press both volume buttons at once.
h. The Android system recovery utility (second line of text) will come up.
i. Press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON until “wipe data/factory reset” is highlighted.
j. Press the power button to start the process.
k. Once the wipe data/factory reset process has completed, press the VOLUME UP BUTTON until reboot is highlighted.
l. Press the power button to reboot your DX2.

if phone does not boot after data wipe, you will need to flash a sbf
How To Flash a SBF Using RSD Lite
The patterns are just color splashes I guess on the Eclipse screen. I have wiped/reset to factory and selected reboot. Boots back to the same Eclipse screen ........... in tears now!
Edited to add: I decided to try the wipe/reset again ... and this time it worked. I now have eclipse on the phone!! I was able to dial a #. Now to figure out how to resync everything .. I hope that is all that is left!!! Happy tears now, I think!!!
if it didn't boot after 3mins pull battery
if battery dies, it just makes it harder.
follow how to use rsd lite
Not sure if you saw my edited post above:

keep in mind that with 512ish RAM, this phone really suffers in the bringing the beef department. in other words, limit your apps. i try to use the browser for facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc in order to save precious ram. it will lag out like that on just about any rom that we have. i just try to keep an eye on how much ram my apps are using, and also try to keep the ones i dont need closed. i know it wont result in the best phone experience, but this isnt really the best phone....lol. but it is VERY usable.
v6 in my experience hasnt really helped all that much anyway, or enough to even be worth going through the hassle of doing, but you can always give it a shot and see how it works for you.
also, EZSBF isnt to hard to do, you can make a disk and get back to 2.3.4..... under which the options are much more than what you get on 2.3.5 . i run cm9 and it gives me less problems than eclipse ever did. but you are also sacrificing video recording capabilities. again, keep in mind that i dont use many apps besides Falcon pro, and sometimes an extra music app or two. so i have less problems than someone who tries to run a bunch of apps like this is a galaxy nexus or something. lol. just a thought. but there is a LIST of roms to try out under 2.3.4, and a whopping three for 2.3.5. just sayin.
me or shadow can try to suggest things that may help. just let us know.

no need to start another thread, unless it's been several days and it's a very different issue.
you may want to try a different launcher like holo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722308
and widgets can use a lot of memory
So, from what I am understanding, it is a memory/RAM issue? It was never a ROM issue to start with?
I certainly will be glad to follow any detailed instructions on anything that will help, but bear in mind I know comprehend all the abbreviations and other things.
I noticed yesterday after my post it seemed to get worse. I can't seem to back out of the call/contact screen. I have to restart the phone. The battery died by lunch time. I may need to add apps to the auto-end list, but I get confused on what to sync and not to sync.
I was talking to my daughter on the way from work and the phone just restarted on its own.
I don't want to give up the video issue of my phone if I can help it.
I never thought about widgets causing troubles. Perhaps I have too many apps?
I did not like the messaging or the calendar of Eclipse. My texts never showed the time and the the calendar ... well, I just don't care for the light black/dark black theme I guess. Even the email theme isn't my favorite, but not sure how to fix that. So, I downloaded handcent sms and a calendar.
I have 16g memory, which is one of the main reasons I chose this phone as my verizon upgrade last year. Again, never thought about not having enough RAM. I use a 1 tap cleaner, and I thought the cache showed the RAM - say right now it shows Total 1.96GB, Avail: 1.44GB. I can clear things and bump it up to about 1.52. If that is not the RAM, then where do I find it?
Here is how uneducated I am ... if I have the Eclipse ROM, then I am still running the android 2.3.5 as well? I thought rooting and adding a custom ROM raised the android version. Guess not ... I had to google that to see that is called Gingerbread.
I guess I can check out the launchers? What advantages are there to do this? Anyone have a personal favorite?
Sadly, I know enough to know droid trumps the iPhone ... but my kid has the 8gb iPhone 4, has just as many apps, and never has troubles.

I recently purchased a rooted, and I believe an unlocked (says unlocked on startup screen) atrix for my mom.
Here's what I can tell you about it:
Android version 2.3.7
Baseband N_01.77.36P
Mod Version RedPill Hybrid V1
Build number GWk74
Now I have a few issues. The font on here is WAY too small for my mom, I'm looking for some sort of stock rom or a way to return to stock. I'm not an atrix owner, I own an unrooted SGS2. I've rooted phones before but I know nothing about this one.
Can anyone help me please with these two things? Sorry if I seem noobish, but I'd like her to have the best experience she can. And I really don't know much about these phones.
Thanks!
Oh and also, there's no google apps on the phone so I can't download another launcher :/

I ran across that earlier. I'm under the impression that using fruit cakes is where I want to head with this, but I'm not really sure where to get started. I didn't root this phone so I have absolutely no idea what version it was on before. I'm assuming it has an unlocked bootloader because it says unlocked when it's booting up.
I really don't want to brick a phone that my mom just paid for. Not to mention we got a multimedia dock with it which is unuseable with this rom

Yes fruitcakes is what you'll need to return to stock rom and can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009 2.36 is the latest gingerbread version released

I appreciate your help so far, I apologize I've never really used an atrix. I apologze if I ask any completely dumb questions.
So using the 2.3.6 system and boot, I'm assuming. Will these return me to stock motoblur or just stock gingerbread?
After this, will I be able to get updates if there are any?
Also, I don't really see total directions on how to flash these. I assume I can use cwm from rom manager, or do I need some other recovery?
Edit: none of the links work for those files.
whatever you do, once you use fruitcake to get to stock 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 you should probably freeze Updater using titanium backup to prevent your mom from clicking 'ok' and install any future official OTA updates.

Yes the 2.36 system and boot will install stock Atrix gingerbread with motoblur on your device. Unfortunately you won't be able to update as they will likely brick your phone. Fruitcakes are the safest way to upgrade
Rom Manager's recovery is what I use just make sure you have the latest version and backup your current rom
Forgot the links were down on the fruitcakes thread let me see if I have the files somewhere

You guys have no idea what lifesavers you are. I can't get to the market because the phone has no google apps, how do I know if I have the latest rom manager? I'm assuming it will just automatically install the latest version of cwm?
I eagerly await your fruitcake files. Thankyou!
Honestly.. I wouldn't fruitcake.
The easiest thing for you to do would be to just install a custom GB ROM. She won't have all the sluggish bloatware, and it'll be almost identical to stock. Easier, too..
Just my opinion.
I'd really rather have her on stock.
However, can you recommend a rom in case I can't find these fruitcake files? I need something stable that's going to work with the hd multimedia dock.

Personally, I don't use the GB ROMs anymore (they use entirely too many resources for my liking lol), but I've had good experiences with Aura, Alien, and Ninja.
GingerMod looks pretty solid as well - I tested it for a few minutes but had to go back to a CM based MOD due to preference.
I know the ones I've listed above all have functionality with the HDMI cable, so I assume they work with the multimedia dock, as well. I don't own one, so I've never been able to test/been interested in that functionality.
If I were in your situation, I'd download a bunch of different GB ROMs, test them all, see if any suit all of her needs - if none do, then go for stock

I'm open to downloading a few, but is there any other way to go back to stock besides fruitcake that isn't going to blow up the phone? I don't want to brick it my mom would kill me.
Saw this the other day, might be worth a look in to: [Batch/Script] MFBSR - Moto-Fastboot: Stock Restore
This looks like good information, I think I can work with this. For fear of sounding stupid, I'm sorry Ive never done this stuff with an atrix.
Can you please give me a quick step by step for this:
1. Download MFBSR.
2. Boot into fastboot.
3. Run the script.
4. Your done!
I downloaded the script, I just have no idea how to boot into fastboot and run it. I don't have any of the stuff on my computer for this phone since I wasn't the one that rooted it. I'm going to read through the whole thread, but any help you could give would be great.
EDIT: Ooh because my rom is 2.3.7 some say I shouldn't flash this and I need a fruitcake instead, which I can't find a dang download for.
ATT 4.5.140 - 2.3.6
2.3.6 System and Boot
That's the fruitcake I need if anyone knows of a working download link.
fastboot (from briefmobile's instructions)
Put your device into Fastboot mode:
– Turn off your device.
– Hold down the power button and downward volume button until you see “Fastboot” on your screen
– Push the upward volume button

If you turn the phone off, and hold the VOL down key while it's powering back on (the boot screen (moto logo with unlocked in top left corner)), you should see "fastboot" pop up underneath the "unlocked" - hit VOL up key to select fastboot - have phone connected with USB.
If you pull up a cmd prompt and nav. to the dir. where the fastboot files are (I'm assuming they came with the script), type "fastboot devices" and see if it pulls anything. You should see an id for the atrix if it's connected.

Beaten to it
Is it safe to do this when I'm on redpill 2.3.7? Seems like downgrading might be a bad idea?
I'm not sure about going from RedPill straight to stock 2.3.4, but I know that many ROMs use different versions of android, and there are no repercussions for jumping from, say, 2.3.7 to 2.3.4. If you're worried, you could jump down to a custom ROM that uses that same version of android, and then run the script.
Alright, that seems like an alright idea. Going to go for it and I will get back to you guys. Thankyou again for the help. Messing with a phone that doesn't belong to me is rather scary.
Ok im hoping someone else has ran into this problem. I seem to be having problems flashing any roms. Im using 5.8.2.0 and always have. But it does not seem to matter what rom I flash it never flashes all the way. Example when i flash i see the white progress bar then it goes away like it decided to skip that step and then the optimizing screen then all looks good till i see i have no lock screen. apps are all crashing out of the blue. trust me im no newb to flashing been flashing mine and my family's phones for ever. When my phones started acting like this i would just hook up the cable and use a oem flash and bam i could use clockwork again. But seems i cant find that solution here. And the funny thing is i swear ive seen someone talking about the same there here a few weeks back and I cant find it. Ive cleared data cache divik hit the factory reset in clock work. Once i even tried the factory reset inside the rom oh boy funny storry lets just say that i needed the how to unbrick guide at that point option 1a lol.
So in review ... Help help help.. and oh yea help
Thanks in advance
try this thread.

Ok I tried that link and used the jermaine151_9.4.2.15.zip to flash from 5.8.2.0 and dont have crashing well not that ive seen. but the home buton highlights but does not function. the back key works but still the lock screen is no where to be seen. shows to be on in setting but i had to get to settings from the settings option in menu because when i tap the time nothing pops up still.
Well its getting worse with each flash i seem to lose more and more. now my market is missing. its like im lossing apps each time i try to flash another Rom. Is there a way to flash a rom via fastboot and skip CWM to see if CWM is the problem? maybe someone knows how to flash a rom with an unlocked bootloader via blob ?
Seriously no one has an answer? well this sucks. 550 down the tube.

Update: C Spire would not give me a SBF file. None of the employees even knew what I was talking about. I had to show the rep how to perform a manual factory reset from recovery because she and the other employees had no idea. They gave me a new X2 as a Warranty Replacement.
I ran a de-blur script from the Motorola Photon forums and it ran fine for a while. I was doing some backups from BSR and accidentally formatted /data. I have no access to BSR at the moment, only stock recovery. I then ran a factory reset through stock recovery. I can get as far as setting up my gmail account and then I am taken to the Accounts Setup screen, Facebook, Corporate Sync, Twitter, etc. I cannot get past this screen. If I hit done adding accounts I get force close on "process.com.motorola.setup". I assume this is happening because of some missing blur files. If I hit my home button, nothing happens. I thought that this was because the stock launcher was missing, but I also have zeam, nemus and Go launchers installed. When I plug my phone in via usb, it takes me straight into usb storage mode. I keep trying to use adb but get a device error message. I cannot get into the phone's settings to see if usb debugging is enabled or not. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. I do not have a SBF for my carrier. I've already attempted to sbf with the 2.3.5 ntelos file but get a Fail message at the end.

Actuality carrier doesn't matter BTW but milestone x2 mb867 does.
I am trying the Ntelos sbf again following the instructions by moonshadow and will report back in a minute
Why would u use something meant for the photon on ur mx2?
U may have been fine if u never did a data wipe(I know first happened on accident) but I think data wipe will turn off USB debugging. Unless u had privacy setting to backup settings to google(,which even still it might not work) and then u can get Gmail to sync ur settings back into place u might be able to push the files needed for recovery (maybe the ones from skwoodwiva rerecovery thread)
But if u can't get adb to connect, and can't get past the force close to install bsr and load ur backup, and don't have sbf ability, then you very well might be screwed(aka call up asurion)
I don't know much about fast boot, but isn't there a way to enable adb from there?
Then u might, big might as I am not the one who can tell ya how, be able to get the needed files in place with correct perms set to be able to power down and load bsr
Good luck
Let us know if u have a solution

Thanks for your input, I got the de-blur script from here: Universal De-Blur for all motoblur phones I ran the phone for a while with the script with no problems, it was when I wiped data that I screwed myself. Will keep working on it. I just tried the SBF again and I get: Failed Flashing Process. I doubt using a Verizon SBF will do me any good.

Ahh gotcha
I just remembered a while back seeing the one meant for photon but when u used it it would delete things that caused force closed for x2
(Still tho, the x2 I learned is such a picky phone that I really never recommend ANYTHING that wasn't developed specifically for the x2, even when they say universal)
If u do end up having to get replacement (assurion) u might as well try an sbf with vzw files here and root and restore nandroid just to see if its possible and works...
no problem trafalger. I cannot find another way to enable usb bugging other than getting into the phone's settings, which I cannot do. I am able to get in to network and location settings through the voice commands but that is it. Guess I am screwed
Someone did try it won't go. Only dx2 will take, poorly(one way!) the mx2 sbf but not the other way round.
Back when I had a Milestone X, I tried a Verizon SBF and got bricked....I guess I will get dressed and head over to C Spire Wireless and hope they have one in stock for a warranty exchange....
I found an app on the Android Market that enables usb debugging, however, says it is not compatible with the X2. Any other ideas?
Our sbf to your 236 may be the brick you want that would stick @ M.

On 2nd, you might get a Dx2 without data & what could you say then.

Whatever demand a sbf
SBF that will make the phone work but no calling or network
I know this doesn't help much but I am experienced the exact same problem. I found an SBF that will make the phone simply work, but it will not have network access. I have tried activating it from CSpire's webpage, but it just won't connect. To top that off the SBF I am using will not allow root either. I get a permission denied in most cases when I try the fastboot method.
I would like to issue a warning for all CSpire users with the Motorola Milestone X2
Rooting is difficult at best, there are no .sbf files out there to back up your phone.
If you screw up you are going to have to convince the CSpire folks that it was an inherent software error and give you a warranty replacement.
I've been having this weird problem recently.
I originally was running an AOKP JB rom for a bit, working fine with CWM recovery. I decided to go back to a rooted touchwiz with CWM. I booted up odin and flashed the SU update from rootgalaxynote.com, nothing happened. Tried again, Nothing happened. I apparently have superuser access, but no Superuser app.
So I grabbed a CWM from here and threw it through ODIN, flashed it, I held down VOL UP and VOL DOWN while it was booting, boila, CWM boots up and my flash my SU.zip.
Boot up, everything is kosher and I have root, but the problem is, every time I try to boot up recovery NOW, I get the damn 3e one that does hardly anything.
any advice on what to do? I don't like flying with no landing gear.
The stock TW rom included a script that auto installed the 3e recovery when a boot sector modification is made.
It's an annoying little perk that Sammy added into the framework.
The fix involves a boot at the proper time during the root process.
I believe the steps can be found in the super thread under the ICS root instruction threads.
Easy fix ..really annoying safety mechanism ....g
Figured as much. It's kinda hard coming from HTC, they don't seem to care what you do with your device.
You've been thanked.

I stopped buying HTC phones because of their s-on and locked bootloader policy. Samsung is by far easier to modify. Its also very hard to brick (your recovery automatically reinstalling is an example)
Anyway, for your issue, after you get the green box from Odin, you do a battery pull to interrupt that script.
Thanks ranger ...
I remembered the script, but not the process ....
Old guy here ...LOL
Thank you Sir ...g

My last device was the inspire 4g...and if not for the famous "random reboot" issue, I'd still be using it...
They even have android 4.2 for it ......sigh
However ...the note 1 is impressive, and I have enjoyed this device more than the past 10 combined.
Thank you in return ....g
wish i could remember the exact process but i recall the i717M had a similar issue but it was resolved by pushing a different tar or image file onto it.
I recall stumbling on it either here; http://rootgalaxynote.com/
or in xda's i717m areas. good luck.
Be careful with that site. Many have come here after they flashed GB kernel onto ICS and vice-versa.
Make sure you read carefully.
The script only affects Canadian phones that were updated OTA. Here is the link to tell you how to get around the script.

So the other day I tried installing SacsPorted Lollipop 5.0 Rom for my girlfriend's Galaxy note 3 for sprint and I managed to fully wipe everything off the phone by accident. Luckily the recovery still worked and I was able to install said Rom. But now this phone is riddled with problems. I get a message every time I boot up the phone that says "Unfortunately SAE has stopped working" and then when I try to use it to take a video for any app (Snapchat, original camera, or just about any camera app) the phone freezes for about 10-15 secs and crashes. Also battery life is terrible and the phone's signal might actually be worse because it can never get past about 2 bars on 4g or 3g while my GS3 gets max or close to max bars in the same area with the same carrier. Idk if that's just the update or I really may have messed up this phone because Kies does not even recognize this phone anymore and I have a lot of backed up data on it for this phone that I can't access I know its not my wire or ports because the phone can be recognized by the PC. I've tried reading on forums for help but can't find it for the life of me. I would tremendously appreciate anyone's help :fingers-crossed:
I think you need to wipe the phone and restore the backup.
The thing is I actually don't have the backup system files for this phone I wiped it by accident I had a chance to backup some usual phone stuff like contacts, apps, etc. I'm trying to download 4.4.2 from a website but its gonna take 7 hours atm.. Do you know of a site where I can download it faster? Thank you for replying so fast!!
Odin the Lollipop tar.

then, if for some reason, your ladyfriend still wants you to f**k with her phone, it's easy to root.
