Alright So I am new to this forum but Im not new to the scene. I cant figure this problem out after days of searching and restoring. So I just got my note last week been loving it coming from my old 4s. Anyways My problem is I did a fresh factory restore rooted with dags kernel (tried both stock root and Oc kernel). I have clockwork recovery installed btw. So usually everything goes smooth. I clear all caches phone boots up runs smooth, I install root then my basic apps. Now I was doing them one by one and restarting.
Well long story short. At random any one of these times I reboot the device I come back into the lock screen Ill unlock and it force closes everything and just keeps rerunning media scanner looping. (force close twlauncher calenders google sync etc like really anything usually its twlauncher thats first I click ok it goes back to lock screen freezes for a second then reboots media scanner. It doesnt find service or even attempt it. The only thing I can do is restore and try again. I have done this over 10 times just this past week. I have fixed permissions in both rom manager and clockwork. Though it was good until last night it just completely restarted on its own and when I booted back up it was force closing.
I even did a fresh format wiped everything reinstalled stock att unrooted Rom then rooted and I have to be afraid of my phone dying or just randomly crashing and that when I restart its not gonna make it back into gingerbread without a restore. Now this will happen whether I have no apps or some apps. I can seem to find anything triggering it. Is this a defect in the phone maybe? Should I restore to stock and exchange at at&t or am I missing something? Please help guys. Ive only been able to get about a day before everything force closes. And that is unacceptable for an 700 dollar phone when all these others are running smooth.
Did you happen to mess with any overclock values? I had the problem you explain only after I overclocked to much and it was unstable
Solution: put into download mode and flash back to total stock with odin and start over. It worked for me. Restoring backup did not work

It is a problem with CWM. You should look for and download darkside super wipe. If I were you I would probably flash the stock Odin tar and start fresh. Make sure you install the latest CWM.. I believe beta4. You should not have to reboot your phone after every new app install.
Use the super wipe from in CWM (install from zip) and then use Odin to get back to stock.
You most likely have an older version of the CWM, I don't think anyone has reported any problems with beta 4 and force closing issues.
I have CWM 5.0.2.7 on here. I dont have to restart everytime I install. I was doing it to see if there was a certain app triggering it thats all. Cuz if the phone goes off and reboots to lockscreen thats when the FC happens. It never happens while Im actually in use. First time this happened it was stock clock speed and its happened whether its 1.83 or 1.56 or stock rooted rom. And I had tried both restarting stock att rom with bloat and from my first backup after odin root.
Where do i find beta 4? I originally got this cwm from rootgalaxynote.com
Nevermind I found it I pulled a n00b. Ok Imma give that a try right now I see this is older version so HOPEFULLY thats it. Thanks a bunch Ill check back in after to let you know. Pretty crazy in the back of my mind I felt like CWM was the only thing I didnt check out.
Stuck in firmware upgrade encountered an issue. I cant do anything Odin wont write the stock firmware back on after wipe. What do I do? No cwm or anything phone just boots to telling me to restore with kies?

The version of CWM you were using was most likely for the international Note and therefore incompatible with the Note you have.

Just for Clarification
I too had the TwLauncher issue and tried clearing the Dalvik cache, cache, etc. This then sent me into a boot loop into recovery. (My CWM is the 5.0...version too). Tried the restore, no luck, wipe, no luck etc.
My PC doesn't see the phone, so I need to basically start the root process over again and install the Beta4 CWM. Am I understanding correctly?
I have the same problem and its driving me crazy. Can some one please help me out step by step Im new to this any help would be gratefully appreciated
Ok so I've been unhappy with the 4.0.4 official ATT update and its caused my phone once or twice a day to shut off and I have to pull the battery out. So I got the bright idea to root it. I'm not a stranger to this I had the captivate and infuse before this phone. I had roms on those with no issues. Now I followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 and the phone crashes on bootup saying google account manager has stopped and wont even let me get past it. Then I tried another kernal SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar and that just has a yellow ! up and never even gets any further
I've spent 7 hours now in a row reading posts, to be frank, the attitude here SUCKS. Instead of people answering the question they point you off to some post you already read 10 times before, already tried and it doesnt work. I've also tried just putting it back to factory with I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL.exe and that doesnt work either
Put your phone in download mode. (power it off, hold down the volume down button and insert the usb cable)
Flash this with Odin in the PDA slot, auto reboot the only thing checked:
http://d-h.st/UWm
So I'm assuming seven hours is a lot for you? I've been reading here for over a year and I'm still learning. Really to root all you would have had to do is flash a kernel in .tar format with Odin (our kernels come with cwm built in remember) obviously you would want one that's compatible with the version of android you're using. There is a lot of information here. But to say the " attitude here sucks" like you did..... Yer wrong. I know sometimes it seems harsh, but we're just trying to get people to do things for themselves and thus learn even more, positively influencing them in the end.
I think I see your problem. Perhaps if you drop the entitlement attitude you might get more help. No one here is obligated to help anyone. The people that do are unpaid volunteers willing to share their expertise. This is NOT the Help Desk. Remember that before you consider making another ungrateful post like this one.
XDA-dev's are free volunteers, first of all.
We are here for the last someyears and we had providing the best help for anyone related to the phones, eventough devs always repeat that dont mirror us, many people do mirror thier works and someone claims tgat they had done it and yet this site is considered as the best resources for android fanboys.
The another thing is that we are professionals who spare our minute free time for the betterment of phones and to.unlock the hidden capabilities of phone.
I could say to you that have patience and patience never makea you sad.....
BE GOOD

Use the return to stock guide to go back to stock GB. Never go to another site other than ours as the other sites have ad kernels which break wifi or brick phones. Once you flash the GB stock go into 3e recovery and wipe by holding power and both volume buttons. Use the volume keys to move up and down and power to select. If power doesnt work then use home. Once you boot up you can set up or whatever. Next follow the Flash Custom Firmware Without Incrementing Flash Counter. Make sure to use a GB kernel in Mobile Odin. Now you can flash custom roms using CWM if you did it right. If you flash an ICS rom you can use Triangle Away to remove that triangle at boot up. You can also use a jig which is safer and able to be used on any version.

I managed to get Serendipity 9.4 loaded on it and its seeming to work however I dont seem to be able to get anything else to not boot loop or fail
I'd be happy with a rooted ICS, dont really need all the fancy stuff but when I try to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 I cannot get it to load stable, I get bootloops, non stop force closes.
I did seem to fix the power button issue, took it apart and swapped the button with a damaged i777 I had laying around here and thats working now, so really I just need the stock ICS on it and thats the extent of any tinkering I ever want to do with this phone again.
I picked up a Optimus G today as a replacement, god I hate it, the music sounds like garbage and the camera is worse. Theres about zero cases made for it. I have 13 days now to return it so I'm hoping I can resurrect my GS2.
It says to If flashing this from another base, you should perform a wipe data/factory reset before you flash this package, should I flash the package first? Seems like after that I only have 3E recovery instead of clockwork mod, which I need to flash the kernal, or should I do the kernal first? These things are not really detailed

If you wish to be on stock ICS go ahead and reboot into recovery and factory reset. Next turn off the phone and remove the battery. Plug in the usb to the phone while it's connected to your computer while holding both volume buttons. You should be in download mode now once you press the correct volume button. Now you can use Odin/Heimdall to flash Stock ICS. Note this does contain the EMMC Superbrick bug which is why you factory reset prior to flashing it. If you want a custom rom PM and I can tell you

Seems like your answer is in there already. Kernels can be flashed after with Odin. Use a kernel with CWM if you want that.
Was just wondering if there is anyway to disable this because it is very annoying. Friend got a hold of it and thought it would be funny to reset it. Its useless in my opinion. Anyways is it possible?

There was another thread started about this shortly after the phone was released. Is it true it erased your SD card as well?? There were a couple reports that it had for them. I made sure to back up my phone and routinely continue to do so in the off chance that someone does get a hold of it and unknowingly erases everything. This is a TERRIBLE "feature" and someone had said there was a file on a previous phone they had that was able to be edited to disable this, but as far as I know hasn't been found on the G3 yet. Though I'm not a dev by any means I plan on diving into the system files at some point, and hopefully can find something online to point me in the right direction... Believe me, I'm sure if I or someone else does find a way to disable it you will definitely see a thread for it, more than likely in the "General" section :good: Worst.....Feature.....Ever.....
I am OK with the 10 times then wipe...
If I had a friend do that to me, we would no longer be friends.

See this is horrible. I can kind of understand the security purpose behind it and figured it would only wipe internal storage but SD as well with no option to turn off?! This should be something you CHOOSE to happen after 10 failed attempts. Especially if you have that one A$$hole "friend" (I'm sure a lot of you are picturing him now ) who thinks something like this would be hilarious.....Every time....

I was on my last attempt one day while my phone was in my pocket, using knock code. So this makes me nervous about wiping it again accidentally.

Yes... This actually happened to my M8 while it was in my pocket. The screen came off sleep and I pocket swiped the wrong pattern. When I pulled the phone out EVERYTHING was gone.
I thought it was ridiculous that it gave you 10 tries... now that I know it wipes your phone, that's scary and not nearly enough.
I would much rather it just give you 3 or 4 tries and then require a backup pin or for you to type in or your google account password. It should never be able to wipe my phone unless I tell it too.
wow that is a serious shipping bug. I'm taking my phone lock off right now. They designed with guest log-on they so you hand your phone to somebody else to use and they designed it like that? Sounds like another enhancement for g3 tweakbox...set failed logon attempts to 10,000 with time delays in between.

I installed the xposed module. I set it to unlimited but I also had the g3 tweakbox setting to show number of attempts. The number was still at ten max and I was unable to (can't wipe no backup) try more than 10 attempts.
After five, mine requires you to type a phrase to continue, so pocket shouldn't do it. And after that, you can use a pin or account info by selecting the bottom button that says forgot my code.
I certainly agree it should be a setting though.
Sorry this an old thread, but I would like to know as well. My toddler sometimes get a hold of my phone, and it ends up being factory reset. I hate this feature. If I have a issues with someone taking my phone and trying to access to it, I rather go through Google (phone locater) and erase it from there

The following is out of the box thinking and speculative since it's possibility of success depends on what happens if you completely wipe your recovery partition so that you no longer had any kind of recovery: neither stock nor custom. And knowing you couldn't easily get recovery back without flashing the 10B TOT. There'd be other possibilities to get it back, but I'd just flash the TOT under most circumstances.
You would have to be temporarily be rooted to do so.
This is the way I would go about it if I were interested in such a thing:
1. Restore to stock 10B KitKat by flashing the 10B_03 TOT using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ (assuming you're on the 35B or higher stock unrooted ROM).
2. Root the phone with the Stump app.
3. Use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to install TWRP custom recovery.
4. Create a flashable zip from the individual partitions extracted from whichever stock ROM KDZ you wanted to be on, such as 47A Marshmallow.
5. Leave the stock recovery partition out of the zip, and adjust the updater-script to wipe the existing recovery partition on the phone.
6. Flash the ROM zip you've created. Once you exit TWRP, you won't have a recovery partition anymore, which as far as I know would be what would perform the actual factory reset. You'd still have the download mode partition because that's separate.
If someone triggered what would normally be a factory reset by guessing the wrong lock code 10 times, the phone would reboot and likely maybe have a blinking LED which would require you to either pull the battery or hold the power button in for 10-15 seconds or so to force the phone to boot.
If I were going to test such a method, I'd use the built in LG Backup to back up all my user apps and data and move everything I want to save from my internal storage to my MicroSD card, then I'd eject the card and leave it until done testing.
Then upon following the steps to do all this, I'd test the theory out immediately by setting a secure lock screen and using the wrong password/PIN/pattern 10 times and make sure you can recover the way I described by pulling the battery or holding down the power button long enough.
No sense restoring apps or even putting your Google account info in while testing this.
At the worst, you'd have to flash the 10B TOT or any KDZ such as 47A again to recover, or very worst have to follow QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode recovery directions which would also make use of the TOT file.
If you decide you're brave enough to test, I'd be willing to make the flashable zip for you.
You can uncheck "Android Device manager" under Settings --> Security --> Device Administrators ... i done for Lenovo vibe mobile !!!
Just when I had my phone dialed in just the way I wanted than I screw things up. Have The Verizon Galaxy S4 and had the Mk1 build on it and rooted to the Galaxy nk2 build. Also had Hyperdrive 20 installed. Really enjoyed the phone and its performance. Thought I would move some files around using Kies....Boy that was a mistake. As soon as i plugged the phone int my laptop and brought up Kies there was a message on the Kies screen that I needed to update the software. I thought it was the Kies Software. Oh no it was the phones. Anyway I got the Nk1 update 4.4.2 and that put it the phone into a bootloop. I got the phone working by do a factory reset but lost root and everything else. And the phone has lost a lot of its functionality, ie, the auto rotation doesn't work along with some other things that i just work around. I tried to restore using Odin, but keep getting a fail message, and I never bothered to see what the fail code was.
I think what Im needing is the Nk1 software to plug into Odin so I can start over. But I've been wrong before.
If someones got a minute could you give me the steps to rebuld the phone back to where I had it before. Im sure I left out something, or for that matter if Im S.O.L. I can understand that.
Thanks
I was having issues with my phone after I installed the wrong build of a rom or program, and I spent hrs and hrs and hrs looking for the right files for odin in order to get the phone working, but failed, then I came across my old usb storage that had all the files that I needed, since I have been through this a few times in the past, and it worked, got the phone back up to speed. I actually saw this post and subscribed to it to see if some one would post the file link but since no one did and I just happen to find my old ones, I will try to send them to ya, your phone should be working today buddy. Give me a few to get the files out.

Go to the How to Root NK1 thread in the general section and flash the ODIN NK1 image through ODIN, voilĂ
Im trying to get the files for sharing but having issues, these files will revert the phone back to stock, but with the new root method, it should be a 1 min process to root it.

Ok I found the thread that has the files and instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 , scroll to where it says full wipe, and fallow those, I did that one on weds and didnt work, prob using wrong pit file, message me your email and I will email you the pit file to use, but other than that, the pda file has the same name than the one I have "ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5" and my pit file name is "JFLTE_USA_VZW_16G.pit" . Hope this helps. Remember this will put you at very stock, but just do the new rooting method, should take less than a min. Any issues just message me and Ill see what I can do.
This is a Backup of the PH1 ROM's system and modem partitions. This is a Pre-Rooted ROM with the SD Card write permissions fix. This is different from my other post in those two differences.
You will need a custom recovery to install this ROM. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/note...lipop-t3089382)
Always perform the appropriate backups and other steps just in case something messes up. If you are on Lollipop, you should be able to just flash and go without any data loss (except custom system apps), but no promises.
Extract the folder (ES File Explorer or 7 Zipper) to "extsdcard/TWRP/backups/[serial number]" then boot into recovery and restore the image. The easiest way to get this folder is to simply perform a backup first, then unzip this folder next to the one for the backup you just created.
I didn't factory reset prior to this backup because it's just system partitions, so let me know if there's anything weird.

Yep, just a security update most likely. Looks like some of the stock (Sprint) apps may have been updated as well . The update file was only about 190 megabytes if I remember correctly.
Quick question on updating modem & firmware.. I'm stock rooted ok2, and i dont have this update yet. I am working toward flashing the newly released and highly anticipated DL Modded N5N7 v4 which requires the PH1 updated firmware.
Do I need to ODIN flash the update files from the other PHI ROM thread or can I just do a full wipe and flash this backup with TWRP?
Thanks in advance.

You can just flash the rom you want and keep your current bootloader/modem. But it's always suggested to keep current with any bootloader/modem, that the OP mentioned. That way if there is a issue with the install, it wouldn't be that.

The preferable answer would have been 'NO' or 'I'M NOT SURE' as a direct answer to my very specific question... as I now have a phone that doesn't make phone calls.

Hey, I've seen you in a few threads and figured I ask before I made the same mistake. I'm looking to upgrade to DL Modded N5N7 v4 like yourself. I have a exploding Note 7 still and I'm anticipating being blacklisted at some point. As crazy as it sounds I like my Note 3's snappiness and everything else over the 7. My issue is my Note 7 radio gets 4g in my job and my Note 3 radio is 3g or spotty. I'm sure my modem and baseband is outdated and may help being updated
I'm on a older Moars Rom Baseband Nk4 android version 4.4.2. Did you figure out where things went bad. I was thinking of following these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/rom-odin-ph1-update-t3463178 don't want to mess this up.
What did you use and what should you have used?
Thanks

My mistake was following bad advice and flashing the TWRP Backup of PH1 in the OP of this thread instead of ODIN flashing the full ROM-ODIN-PH1- Update- t3463178.
I was able to get TWRP to restore my backup to OK2. From there I did a full wipe 3x and ODIN flashed the full PH1 update, immediately rooted with CFautoroot and reinstalled TWRP 2.8.7.0.
From there I followed the OP instructions in the DL Modded N5N7 thread which require the ROM, Kernel Cleaner, MVNO Buzbee2, Sprint VVM, and I installed the DL MM UIX Kernel.
The ROM and kernel are both really well put together except my mobile network connection to Sprint has been intermittent... the phone was stuck roaming and was connecting in spurts with Verizon, sprint, or the network was unavailable.
I just dirty flashed the Rom, Kernel, and MVNO fix an hour or so ago and the APNs seem to be sticking now. We'll see.
I have three Note 3's and each has its own quirky 'personality'- not especially playing nicely with most of the Port ROMs available these days. Hope this answers your questions and helps someone else trying to keep their Note 3 thriving.

I am not trying to start any trouble, but from reading your comment it seems you are suggesting I gave you bad or wrong advice. So I want to explain myself just in case it was a misunderstanding. All roms are capable of being flashed with older bootloaders and modems. But the proper thing to do, is to always be up to date with all bootloader/modem files. This way you will not run into any problems. Now I didn't mention anything about flashing the OP'S twrp backup method. I figured you may have been experienced enough to flash these BL/modem files from a source like sammobile. Then proceed to flash your rom of choice. As you experienced you lost your signal. It may have been a few reasons why this happen. 1. The way the OP mentioned to flash wasn't meant for your phone. Every phone response differently. 2. The rom for whatever reason can only be used if you dirty flashed over your current system. This will not be the only time you may have to do it this way. So instead of being sarcastic with your reply, maybe try and ask the one who is helping you to explain themselves more. We are all here to help each other, and by no means was my response to your question was meant to harm your phone.

No misunderstanding here... I asked a specific either/or question directly related to the thread topic (twrp custom recovery version) and you either misunderstood my question or decided it required an answer other than a 'yes or no' As a result of your longwinded answer, I lost several hours working through how to get a signal back on my phone. Was pretty annoying.

I never knew giving someone detailed information was a problem. It's funny how I never had an issue with the install, but you did. It seems you lack enough experience to realize a few things. But I will make it a point to never help you again. Whether that's to long-winded or not for you, oh well.

Did you get it all figured out?
I did get it figured out. Wasn't much more than an unnecessary inconvenience that someone else might be able to avoid.
Ok, so something weird...
Im running KK4.4.2 with the NC5 baseband on Sprint.
I upgraded my TWRP to 2.780 to flash the recovery both first time 'dirty flashing' and the 2nd time doing a facory wipe.
I removed the battery after the flash.
When I reboot, the phone stays on the Yellow Sprint screen and the LED pusles blue slowly. So far been doing it for 15 mintues.
What am I missing?

Give it 30 minutes? It seriously takes a long time. Are you sure you want to upgrade to lollipop? In just asking because you've been on Kit Kat long after support for lollipop or this phone has long stopped. I'd suggest downloading the latest Odin and flashing that instead, unless there is something here you wanted? I'm rooted on PL1 and have no issues other than my phone being as old as it is and how many times it's been flashed.

30 minutes? Woah that is a long time. Ok I will give it a try sometime when I go to bed.
I am mainly trying to get the PL1 update and not mess with Odin if I can get around it. I would like to try and port the Darklord Marshmellow ROM and take advantage of built in google assistant
So I thought I would try them. And always get back if I need to but wanted to keep the PL1 modem updates.
I only have one problem with one other phone user... She doesnt always get my texts and I dont always get hers. I dont know if others arent getting them and just dont know but my 1 friend I text a lot so she notices when there is a gap.
Anyways. Just feeling out how I can maximize this phone's performance. NO plans on changing phones anytime soon.

I still use my note 3. Granted not for main phone as I switched to iPhone, but I use it every day. I don't really know the hesitation of using Odin, but to each their own. If you did decide to use Odin, I'd flash the ROM, boot it, go to download mode again, flash TWRP, boot recovery (so it sticks and doesn't go back to stock recovery), flash SuperSU, done. You're rooted on PL1. Hopefully you have already backed up your text messages and other various things to either SDCard or something else. I'm not sure if that survives whether you wipe and flash clean or Odin. Depending on provider, that could be your issue with text messages. If you're with Sprint, check that you are on latest PRL. If not, make sure APN settings are correct.
If you're only looking for Assistant, I had it running on stock PL1. XDA did a blog post about enabling it in Lollipop, so once you upgrade, check it out. I couldn't stay on Marshmallow. Being that these are ports and not specifically built for our phone, I ran into issue with every single ROM either not being able to place calls, text (MMS actually), or wireless/data not working. No matter what I changed APN to, I would always have issues. Some do not. I just can't recommend a port when they haven't worked for me. Some roms have been abandoned, which meant if I found one that I could at least handle, it was so outdated that it was unusable (issues had arisen and the developer had moved on so they weren't being fixed). By handling a rom, I mean that after I upgraded to iPhone, I only needed wireless to work (to connect to hotspot) and it not go into a boot loop or crash all the time (some do). Those roms I have no idea if calls or text work because I wasn't using that. A lot have issues with wireless working.
One more thing you can try is to do a flash, wait about 30 minutes. If it still doesn't boot, pull the battery and reboot into recovery. Wipe data and cache and reboot again. It should boot. It'll still take a long time. Make sure you wait the 30 minutes before pulling the battery (it should have finished upgrading your system by then). Do note that first boot from now on will take forever no matter if it's a port or stock. Lollipop and higher take a long time to upgrade. I've only had 1 or 2 roms take around 5 minutes and that's because they were minimalist and without Google apps. The phone does get a little warm and uses a lot of battery, so I'd keep it plugged in.
Please report back if you got it to work and how. Like I said, I still use mine. I still visit this forum every day even though I've had an s5 and an s7 edge. I love this phone. I need to get mine replaced because I've worn it out: broken charger port so I have to make sure the cable is plugged in a certain way and I can't touch the phone while charging, side molding is broken off in places, some of my partitions can't be changed which means the memory is failing (not even Odin flashes correctly anymore let alone custom roms). But, it still keeps on ticking.

Come back to Android! We miss you!!!!
Yes I am backed up and also have a Titanium Backup of everything so I am pretty much covered... I have even backed up the backups to my PC!
You have much wisdom in what you are saying. I thought I would play around with some other ROM's and see what the potential is.
I hear good things about the Darklord Reborn by Midevil and JCorderno so thought I would investigate.
I am not opposed to using Odin, but I was at work, and no access to a computer so wanted to see if I could do the upgrade 'on the fly' since I am already rooted and with recovery.
Man, waiting 30 minutes for a phone to boot sounds like a anxiety attack waiting to happen! But still wanna give it a try.
As to your USB port. Have you thought of going wireless charging? I did and haven't looked back! You can get a wireless charging back and a case that will fit at...

Clone Wars....
Just wanted to put out a big THANKS for this.. I broke my Note 3 after 2,433 days (long story) but had bought a stock spare on Ebay last year... Making the switch now, but your PH1 Flashable update is making it super easy!
To let everyone who needs to use this nowdays... you will need to Flash an older TWRP (I used 2.7.8) in order to allow the Modem partition to be overwritten. Then you can flash up to 3.x to load a Android 10 based rom.
