When u root the razr does it automatically install cwm for you or do u have to install it. On my Incredible when i rooted it installed it for me. I'm a lil confused on the cwm recovery part after rooted could somebody please explain in detail how to do this. Thanks abunch.

Negative.
You'll need to pick if you want CWM through Safestrap or Bootstrap. It's worth noting that from my research (not new to rooting but new to rooting the razr) that there isn't a button combo to boot into CWM so Safestrap seems like the best way to go unless you don't mind potentially needing to use the fastboot files if you get a bootloop.

Hey,
I had a Samsung Galaxy 3 and now have moved to the Razr. So, I had CWM installed on the sammy.
Now what is this bootstrap? Is it the same as CWM? If not, what's the difference?
I would kindly request one of the mods to please write a guide to installing the recovery.
Also, please do separate the Droid RAZR and RAZR XT910 forum if possible.
Razr Bootstrap Recovery is a apk that u install on your rooted phone that will let u boot into CWM. Do to the fact that we have a locked bootloader. At the moment we cant overide the factory recovery or it isnt smart to. Just download the program nd install it like a normal app. Once u have it install u can open the program "razr bootstrap recovery"
So when u open it u will see two buttons one says bootstrap recovery and the other is reboot recovery.
Click bootstrap recovery first, then at that moment the app will ask for superuser permissions. Say yes when it comes up.
Then when it finishes bootstrap u should see a text box pop up and say sucessful.
Now u can hit the reboot recovery button and it will reboot your phone into CWM.
This program will only boot u into CWM that one time. So u have to go into the app nd hit each button each time u want to boot into CWM.
Sorry for bad grammer and spelling

What's the difference between the Droid razr and the razr XT910?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
As we haven't still got an unlockable bootloader, we can't flash a custom recovery to the recovery partition.
A recovery image contains:
1. Recovery's Kernel
2. Recovery /system (Android recovery)
The bootstrap recovery will reboot your phone to a CWM recovery that is working with the normal Android system's kernel, it is "bootstrapped" after the Android's early boot, differently from a normal recovery that simply has nothing to do with Android system.
In less words, the bootstrap recovery isn't a real recovery and if you **** up your Android system you won't be able to access it.
A bootloader solution is coming with the ICS update in late dec / early jan, so don't worry: we'll soon have a decent and real recovery, too.
...And I think it's better to have the forums like that: a lot of work done for the GSM version works on the CDMA one, too. For example, my WebTopMOD, my eprj_MCP governor etc...
If we would have two sections, I would never know that some of my work works even of CDMA RAZR as I would never doublepost it into the other section.

Droid razr is the american version that comes with 4g,the xt910 is the european version of the razr that just has 3g+.
i think those are the only differences but feel free to correct me if i am wrong.
I think the RAZR XT910 has an unlocked BL. As Moto had promised to unlock the BL depending on the carrier preference. But here in India, the carrier has no say...so i guess its safe to assume that its unlocked.
Also, would it just be better to wait for a real recov then? I mean, its not like we're flashing custom ROMs on our RAZRs anyways now....
if you guys check the rootzwiki forum BMc and droidtheory put together a boot into clockwork perm...it'll do wonders until we get fast boot files...I put a script for noobs on there as well to run if confused or stuck

I have the app to help keep my root by temporarily unrooting but I also have bootstrap installed and everything set up so that my Razr will boot into recovery every time it starts up/reboots as a safety net. My question is: Will I have to uninstall Bootstrap in order to successfully update via OTA? Someone recommended it on a thread here but after I did some googling I couldn't find anything confirming or denying the need to uninstall your custom recovery.

Im going stock and hoping it gets rooted and a CWM flashable zip is made.
My guess would be yes, remove bootstrap. You will be better off using rsd to get back to stock.

I'm already on the stock ROM, I just have a custom recovery and I'm rooted.
since i am new.. long time lurker... i can't post in the dev forum so sorry this is in the wrong spot... but i just have 2 questions about flashing the cm7 rom....
1. It says to install the cm7 zip and then the google app zip and then the tether patch. Do I install all 3 in a row, or should I install cm7, reboot into recovery and then install the google zip, then reboot again and install the tether zip?
2. Just needed some clarification on this statement from the cm7 thread. "There was a problem with the "hijack" name. It is conflicting with the CM7 hijack. NEVER install the original BSR while in CM7DX2! This is a guaranteed way to boot loop your phone!" Does this mean not to run a nandroid back up or recover back to the stock rom while using the cm7 rom, or do I need to uninstall the BSR fron my phone, then reinstall the app... I'm confused.
Again sorry for the wrong forum and noob post, I'm really tired of this pos x2 and want a custon rom... I just can't afford to brick mh phone.
Thanks for any help

You can flash all three right in a row then reboot
There is the bsr that you need to use to install cm7 but in that thread there is a bsr that is specific to cm7 that you have to utilize going forward from your install of cm7

Kool. Bro I mean I doubt u could brick it. But u could end up somewhere u don't wanna b. After u install cm7 u gotta factory data reset so don't worry about the old bsr... then as soon as you get up and running install the cm7 one

When you are going through the process of flashing CM7, you will be using the bootstrap recovery for the DX2. After you flash and get all set up, you will have to install the bootstrap that is in that thread for future flashing. He is just simply saying the old bootstrap wont work with flashing stuff after you install CM7.
And by the way, if you were planning on starting this as a new thread in the development section, you would have been in the wrong section. lol. The Q&A section would have worked just fine as well. Just for future reference.
awesome I didn't see the bsr for future use on there... thanks for all the replies some much needed direction is appreciated
Also remember to wipe the big three after you flash all three

Know that it takes quite the **** up to brick you're phone. Doing so is kind of hard. And when you actually do brick it, will be a literal brick. If you turn it on and the m logo is the only thing you can see them you have soft bricked. That IS reparable. Do not freak out!

But every time I do power+vol down it doesn't go into recovery.....now I can't get into bootstrap and my phone is doing nothing but bootlooping. Can anyone please help me?

You cant go to the custom recovery because the bootstrap is one time solution - everytime you want to ge to the bootstrap recovery you have to tell your phone to do so unless you have installed cwm on boot...
You'll probably need to use the rds in this case...

But I have been running bootstrap for nearly 3 months? I was going from one rom to another. But can you post a link to your method of fixing it for me? I would greatly appreciate it lol

Hi, i have a Motorola Photon i Already Root the cellphone Works good then i download RomManager and then download miui rom and using rommanager I flash the cellphone by the option the rommanager have and try to boot into Recovery to install another Rom(miui) and every time i reboot into recovery it gave me and error or reboot into the normal Recovery the System Recovery 3e
is there is anyway i could install the Rom without the SDK.
Thank you
Google "root Motorola photon without a computer". You'll need to find photon-torpedo in the travels, but it's not hard. The files needed for computer root and Shabby's AIO root did nothing for me. I can look up the info if you need. It's pretty easy, just takes a few minutes.

Actually the phone is already rooted problem is when I'm trying to reset into recovery the options are pretty small to choose... So I'm thinking I need to unlock the bootloader because I can't work with the option listed in the recovery mod o3 something that came with the mot–photon, I'll try to upload a pic so you could have an idea
