[Q] Happy year!!! one question about flashing CM9 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys:
I'm now running Galnetmiui with siyahkernel which comes with CWM recovery V5.5.0.4, Can I flash codeworkx's cm9 directly via CWM? In his thread..he just states ''Make sure you're running a proper working CWM like the one from CM7''. And after that, Can I restore my Backup using CWM?
I'm sorry if I repeat the question!
Thanks in advance

Yes, that should work fine.

How to install cm9 on sgs2 gingerbread?

Just a question. There are numerous sites on the internet that tells you how to install cm9 on sgs2. Others say that you dont need to flash a leaked ics. Others need you to install . Please help thanks.

Go by the guide on CM9 website. I played it safe and flashed the tar version via PDA in odin. Once that's installed you can then update to latest nightly. I've never had any issues with that process. All the best.

So sir did you install first a leaked ics or not? Thanks

Erm not sure I'm a bit of a flasher- holic. More than likely I was on a 4.0.4 based custom rom. If you do full wipes and format system then flash via odin I'm sure you will be fine as that's what I did. Please read CM9 guide though.

No a custom custom kernel will not remove your ROM, before you flash your chosen kernel read the devs instructions and notes on the brick bug issue. I use the latest siyah have had no problems. Read before flashing there is no rush. All the best

Nope it shouldn't brick your device but Instead of using Odin why not use the safer CWM recovery?

please rephrase your post. It's not clear
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
He meant stock Samsung kernel.
OP: you can't do this, since CM9 needs kernel compatible with AOSP ROMs.
Then is there any way to remove cm9 rom?

If you want to remove CM9, I am assuming that you wish to replace it with a new ROM. Go through the forum and choose a new ROM and place it in your phone's USB drive or SD card. Then go into ClockWorkMod Recovery mode and Factory Reset/Wipe your device. Then install a new zip and choose the zip file of the ROM you downloaded. If there is any part of this that you do not know how to do, say so and I will give instructions or refer you to one of the many excellent guides that have already been written.
A kernel is essentially only a part of a ROM. So when you flash a new ROM you are flashing a new kernel as well, but when you flash a new kernel you are only changing the kernel section of your ROM, not your entire ROM.

what version of recovery, meaning there should be a version # 6.0.?.?
or are you getting a status 7? which means your recovery needs to be updated
you have rooted right?
just basic information im asking, but folks need to know
I'm sorry I always forget something when I'm asking a question on here. But yes I am rooted and it says my CWM-RECOVERY version is 5.5.0.4 if I need to update which version would I want or would you suggest going with TWRP? Answer to your other question it is saying (STATUS 7)

6.0.4.3 is the most recent version and you may have to look back a page or so, but in the General forum there is a thread titled CWM 6.0.4.3 touch recovery and there is a flashable file.
TWRP is fine too, but it depends on what else you may flash in the future. the 4.4 roms dont work with TWRP.
there is a TWRP thread also though in Original Development. some had been having problems with latest version, so you may want to go to the last page and read a bit.
but updating your recovery will solve your problem
have fun
id help out a little more, except i am at work and they may frown upon this if they catch me
