I had purchased Asphalt 5 from Amazon for my g tablet when I was running Tnt 4.40 and it worked fine. I just installed gtabcombover 3.4.1 and now all I get is a box that briefly displays "Sorry, cannot play video." Does anyone have any ideas on getting it to work? Their support is useless; they just say that the g tablet isn't a supported device and to talk to Amazon because they shouldn't have sold it.
There is a decent chance that you won't be able to get it to work on GTabCombOver because, like all the other current honeycomb roms, it doesn't support hardware accellerated video. But run GetLogs right after running Asphalt and get me the result. I'll look at it and see if there is a possible fix.
Thanks for the reply...I kind of wondered if it wasn't hardware accelleration related.
Anyway, I've got GetLogs installed but can't find any information on what to do with it. I've got all three check boxes checked. There are 3 buttons: Add (for a mask string), PasteBin!, and Just a File. I've clicked on all of them but don't know what it is doing. I assume it is creating a file somewhere but what is the file called and where is it?
The file should be in /sdcard/Android/apps/com.GetLogs/data/. You can see the GetLogs thread for more information on GetLogs.
Weird. GetLogs wouldn't work so I downloaded the source and stepped through it. Then it worked. Anyway, I've PM'd the log to you.

I tried to follow the instruction and still I'm getting a blank screen. Has anyone install and manage to play this on the Tab?

It's not a game that I've ever tried, but do you have the original game files as mentioned above?
Yes I got the original game files, but I'm stuck at blank screen.
In case anyone is wondering what it is, this is working on Xoom

i had this working both with the downloaded demo files as well as the original files on my galaxy tab 10.1
After some updates the beginning of the month I'm also now only getting the black screen.
After some googling, it seems that this is some display problem with sdl on this build. You can actually hear the music going with the black screen. Perhaps trying an older version, compiling our own version or.contacting the developer is our only options. I'd very much like this to work again.

Oh ok, I thought I was the only one.
Alternatively you could try VCMI for HOMM 3, its working on my tab

I'm sorry, are you sure about HOMM 3?
UPD:
Found topic about VCMI. It's very great thing!!! I thought that I'll never see HOMM 3 on android.
freonix, thank you!
So does anyone else have any chance on HOMM 2 on Free Heroes 2?
VCMI for HOMM3 kept crashing on me
I got a black screen on my Asus Transformer.
I can hear the sound and if I manage to go blindly through the interface I can start a new game (I hear the grass or sea sound) but I cannot see anything, just black screen.
The game works fine on my HTC Desire HD. The VCMI doesn't work neither on the DHD nor the AT.
I wrote the author an email about the problem I had, hope he reads it soon!
Kind regards.
I noticed several weeks back that my tab was not listed as a device in the the market when I visited the web-market. I could see my phone, but not my tab. It had been there. What happened to it? I began to think I broke *that* functionality of it somehow. I mean, I screw with my tab constantly.
I conveniently noticed there was an update for VeganGinger (7.10) so I went for it. Nope. No market device listing. (the 7.10 update broke it, I thot) Okay. Let's try Flashback. Nope. And, it's a *known issue.* Damn.
This morning, I emailed Google: For the last few weeks, I have been unable to "see" my device on the market. My phone is listed as my device, but my tablet has vanished from the list. I am still able to download apps from the tablet. It's just that my viewsonic g-tablet does not appear in the list of my devices. It's inconvenient when I want to install a market app to my tablet from the "web" android market.
A very nice person replied: Hi there, Thanks for contacting us today. According to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit: http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. I’ve provided a link below for your convenience: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
I was unsatisfied, and a bit annoyed, so I replied and asked: As I mentioned, my device *had previously* shown up in the market.
Does the removal of my device mean that google has changed their device compatibility specs? Or that they are enforcing those specifications more stringently?
Additionally, is there anything I can do to allow my device to show up again? Or am I caught between google and a manufacturer that has stopped supporting their device?
Their answer: Your device wasn't ever a supported device unfortunately.
It does sometimes take a while for Market to recognize that the device is unsupported but once it does it isn't reversible. Viewsonic should have suggestions for alternative app sources. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
WHAT? Not reversible? Oh dear.
One more question: Will the limited Market functionality I currently have on my viewsonic device continue, or will it "go away" in the future?
The google answer: At this time, I can't say for sure whether you'll retain the access you currently have or not. I'm not aware of any planned updates to Market that would affect this but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works behind the scenes.
So, my fellow Viewsonic aficionados, there is the answer to the "howcum I don't see my g-tab anymore...?" queries. I just thought you'd all want to know.
Dan
BTW, If this info helped you, don't hesitate to hit the "thanks" button, k?

Yep. Your choices are to use Amazon (which works fine) and keep using the Market app (updated one, if needed, for HC roms) to download updates & freebies from the Market directly on the device.
And continue to scratch your head at the mess that is Android.
I'm glad i sold my Gtablet and got the HTC Flyer when Best Buy had them on sale.

Thanks, Tidbit.
And now, we return you to the thread.
So, is anyone aware of a way to clear/change identifying info from the g-tab to restore this ability, or do we collectively think it's a lost cause?

Not having it show up in the web store is not a big issue for me. Just download from the market on the tablet?

I am betting that it has something that needs to be changed in the build.prop in /system
If we can figure out which part needs to be changed to transmit a different ID to the market, then I imagine we as GTablet users should be golden. I can still buy and install on the device, just not from Web Market. Oh well....I still have 2.3.7 and very few other users do...yay Cyanogenmod!
Same problem with 10s
I have the same problem with a Viewsonic 10s. Mine has a stock rom and installing the market apk didn't work. Will flashing a new ROM fix things? Or having Root access allow installing apps from the SD?
I still have a few says to return the tablet so if things don't resolve themselves soon, back it goes.

No. I have flashed three times since this discovery, to no avail.
You can *still* browse and install the apps from Android Market to your device.
*The only functionality this affects is the ability to install an app to your tab when you're browsing the Market from your PC.*
Dan
Doesn't the 'market fix' that changes the device ID to allow more apps to show up, already accomplish this?
build.prop... what device= do you use??

I was using 'olympus' as the device= in my G Tab build.prop but recently found I could not install the Eye-Fi app... so I changed the device= to 'sholes' (same as my original Moto Droid which downloaded the app just fine)... bust still no love on the G Tab.
what device= are you folks using in build.prop on your G Tab?
(I'm running Vegan 5.1.1)

I'm running the Beasty rom, made no special changes and it just started working again yesterday. In fact, it shows the last 3 roms that I have installed!
I have looked all over and, as of yet, haven't been able to find the answer. I got a free android tablet (I know, problem #1) for becoming a member of Direct Buy and Simply want to install Netflix and Google Music on this tablet. I would give the model number and all that lovely useful stuff, but the box is blank, save for the word "MID" on the side of the box. I'm assuming it's similar to the Sylvania MID Tablet imported from China. I know it's running Android 2.3.3, it says Model m7206, and Build # GRI40. Kernel Version is: 2.6.35.7-infoTM [email protected] #27.
If any one can provide a "how to" or simple a link to downloads and walk throughs to get the device set to install Netflix and Google Music I will do almost anything for the MEGA assist!
So I'm guessing these are not accessible to your tablet on the Play Store? If that's the case it's as simple as searching for the apk online and installing it on your device.. eg 'netflix apk'

I'll try that. Thank you. The interesting thing is; I don't even have the google play store on the tablet. I've also logged into my gmail account and gone to the online google play store, still without luck. Thanks again!
If you don't even have the play store or Google Market on your device. I would recommend downloading that first then seeing if you can install your apps from the Store. Get it here!
4shared.com and search Netflix.apk

So, I've downloaded the google play store and it keeps crashing... I'm really getting frustrated. Haha. I haven't rooted the tablet, maybe that step will help?

That may help. Most china based devices don't have the google play store due to China not allowing it. You may have to root it and make it think it is another device.
This makes sense. I've tried rooting the tablet using universal androot and ginger break with no success thus far. If any one could help me out with a link than will help i'd be very thankful. I can't use USB to my knoweldge because it has an "ipad" style port that allows the attachment of a dongle with 2 USB and an ethernet port. It's really unusual...

haha. I just (literally JUST) landed one of these tablets. My brother-in-law got it from someone who bla bla bla. Regardless, Is there a way to root the thing? The charger that it comes with barely charges it. That weird funky thing for the port is also a confirmed weirdness.
I looked up the kernel compile info hoping to find the compiler. I tried the ubuntuforums for "guodi" since it was compiled from an ubuntu box.
So far, no avail. If anyone has info on this, let me know.
Hello Everyone,
First off, thank you all for your part in this oh-so informative community you have built. It has answered many questions I have had in the past. I have created a account in hopes that I can get some help with a recent netbook that I got as a bitrthday gift.. It's a Wolvol 10 in netbook, running Android 4.0.4. I like the system well enough but it doesn't support video playback (i.e. netflix, hulu +, hbo go..). I am not super tech savy, and just recently got my first android phone which introduced me to the world of roots & roms. So, im here looking for direction/advice on how to take full advantage of my machine. In the settings it lists "About my Tablet", so im not sure if I can find a root that will work searching elsewhere, or if I need a custom ROM. I will give any info on the netbook that I can if it helps me in my goal.
Thank you again.
Anyone? Please? Bueller?
I just did some searching for this and unfortunately found absolutely nothing on it. So it doesn't support any video playback? Sorry but I don't see netflix ever working on it without an development community or unless it get's an update for it.
Captain,
It will play YouTube and most video off sites directly, but with Hulu: it will download the app off playstore. When opened it gives the message "Device not supported [142]. We're sorry, but video playback on this device is not currently supported". On netflix: I can download the app off the playstore but when I open it does nothing. HBO Go: Supprisingly the app works perfectly. I hadn't tried downloading it yet under the assumption that it would be same as netflix. So that's a plus. Still would be nice to make use of my other video services though. Guess I will keep my fingers crossed for either a system update, or app updates. Thanks for looking into it
I also go this as a gift. Any rom or any development for this netbook?
password help
Hopefully somebody on here can help... My daughter got what i believe is a white WolVol 10.1" netbook that she got from a friend before we moved out of town. Well heres the dilemma, She forgot her password and now we can not get into the netbook. I tried pressing ALT f10 or f8 and nothing pops up except the android symbol. Ive tried to push the reset button on the bottom of the netbook and still nothing ive exhausted all of my options here please help me out so i can help my daughter out...
Hi all. I hope you're having a lovely Easter. I wonder if any of you geniuses can help.
I want to watch Sky Go at a friend's house this weekend (Sky Sports F1). I have three very different devices, none of which will work and I wondered if anyone had any ideas:
1. Nexus 5.
While this runs Sky Go just fine, whenever I use my slimport-to-hdmi adapter to connect to a TV, it stops working. Does anyone know a way round this? It's not rooted so cannot use the Virtual HDMI switch workaround. Is there a workaround without rooting?
2. Android HDMI dongle - (Official device name is "pov tv-hdmi-200bt")
I bought this in Maplins a while ago and is great. I installed "Sky Go Tablet" on it, but when I go to use it, it *****es at me about the device being rooted, so it won't work. I've not rooted it! So I've no idea what it's on about. I've tried two different Hide my Root type apps, and neither work - probably because it's not really rooted, and Sky Go just thinks it is?
3. My Lenovo T410 laptop, running Windows 8.1
Sky Go doesn't appear to work on Windows 8.1 on Lenovo laptops yet, and no-one on any forum appears to know why this is. I've used Chrome, IE and Firefox, and numerous versions of Silverlight, and still get the error 't:6036/ c:4110' when I attempt to stream. No proxies or firewalls in place etc etc.
Does anyone have any advice?
I realise this isn't an Android device, but it's still about Sky Go.
If anyone has any bright ideas as to how to fix any of the three problems above, I'd love to hear from you.
Apologies if any of these have been resolved in other threads - I've done numerous searches and couldn't find anything.
Thanks everyone, and happy Easter Friday.
Jonny.
Hiya, did you ever find a work-around with getting the SKY GO to working using HDMI?
