Needing Some Help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have looked all over and, as of yet, haven't been able to find the answer. I got a free android tablet (I know, problem #1) for becoming a member of Direct Buy and Simply want to install Netflix and Google Music on this tablet. I would give the model number and all that lovely useful stuff, but the box is blank, save for the word "MID" on the side of the box. I'm assuming it's similar to the Sylvania MID Tablet imported from China. I know it's running Android 2.3.3, it says Model m7206, and Build # GRI40. Kernel Version is: 2.6.35.7-infoTM [email protected] #27.
If any one can provide a "how to" or simple a link to downloads and walk throughs to get the device set to install Netflix and Google Music I will do almost anything for the MEGA assist!

So I'm guessing these are not accessible to your tablet on the Play Store? If that's the case it's as simple as searching for the apk online and installing it on your device.. eg 'netflix apk'

I'll try that. Thank you. The interesting thing is; I don't even have the google play store on the tablet. I've also logged into my gmail account and gone to the online google play store, still without luck. Thanks again!

If you don't even have the play store or Google Market on your device. I would recommend downloading that first then seeing if you can install your apps from the Store. Get it here!

4shared.com and search Netflix.apk

So, I've downloaded the google play store and it keeps crashing... I'm really getting frustrated. Haha. I haven't rooted the tablet, maybe that step will help?

That may help. Most china based devices don't have the google play store due to China not allowing it. You may have to root it and make it think it is another device.

This makes sense. I've tried rooting the tablet using universal androot and ginger break with no success thus far. If any one could help me out with a link than will help i'd be very thankful. I can't use USB to my knoweldge because it has an "ipad" style port that allows the attachment of a dongle with 2 USB and an ethernet port. It's really unusual...

haha. I just (literally JUST) landed one of these tablets. My brother-in-law got it from someone who bla bla bla. Regardless, Is there a way to root the thing? The charger that it comes with barely charges it. That weird funky thing for the port is also a confirmed weirdness.
I looked up the kernel compile info hoping to find the compiler. I tried the ubuntuforums for "guodi" since it was compiled from an ubuntu box.
So far, no avail. If anyone has info on this, let me know.

Google TV Remote

Posted this in the general Android forum but no one's helped so hopefully my fellow X10'ers can take 2 minutes and do this:
Can someone in the US download and post the free Google TV Remote (released 2010/12/16) APK?
Can't get it on the Market in Canada, tried searching, AppBrain and MarketAccess to no avail. :-(
Thanks!
ya..can any one post the ak file for google remote and mapp 5.0...cant find it in the market...
Wow, got on the market to help you out... looks like they changed it up finally! Anyways, here ya go http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IZPTI26A. I used titanium to back it up, if I needed to do it another way then let me know.

I tried to install it from Astro, but it said cannot parse the file.
also getting the Unable to Parse File error on CM7.1 with Nexus S.
Can someone else try uploading it?
can we get a new source, seeings as MegaUpload has bit the dust?
This is an old thread, but I needed the APK and it took my like half an hour to track it down.
So here it is for anyone else looking for it on XDA, no parse errors or anything like some other ones floating around.
It looks like Google TV Remote was updated to version 1.1.0 today.
Changelog:
1. Voice search support for Google TV 3.0.
2. Replaced the swiping D-pad to the normal D-pad.
3. Added Accessibility.
4. Added D-Pad Navigation.
However it's not available outside the US. I'm in Canada and unable to download it on the Galaxy Nexus, even though Google TV boxes are being sold here. If anyone would be kind enough to pull the APK and post it, that'd be much appreciated!
Thanks
Hi All,
I could really do with the latest also as the UK don't have access either and I've just gotten one of the MK808B's through this morning.
Thanks

[GUIDE] Install Kindle UK using Linux

If you want the kindle, here's how using linux, works with latest WebOS.
1. Download & install the Palm SDK for linux
2. Just download the app file here.
http://bayfiles.com/file/RB7/oE4hSN/com.palm.app.kindle_0.11.499820_all.ipk
Go to the folder you downloaded and type this command while connected with usb cable to your touchpad, or just install the app any other way you know how.
palm-install com.palm.app.kindle_0.11.499820_all.ipk
Thank you, works perfectly. I put the ipk in my dropbox and installed it with preware without bothering with usb. It also syncs with the Amazon.co.uk accounts without a complaint.
Kindle App still available
As per title,I have searched everywhere, googled it.It was once available but i cannot for the life of me find out to where to download it from.
Any ideas?
Thanks
It has been withdrawn in Europe ( I think) but the US beta version can be had. If I remember correctly I downloaded it from webosbuzz and loaded it using webOS quick install through my desktop. You can still use a UK Amazon account to buy books despite the way the app was obtained. I'm not at home just now so I can't confirm that's where I got it but if you can't find it there post again and I'll double check.
I can't find the .ipk on the site you mentioned. If it's allowed (surely it must if it's a free app) would someone be able to post the updated .ipk on here?
This is the link to where I found it. XDA doesn't seem to allow me to upload it directly
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1779584324/Kindle.ipk
If that won't take you straight there then the link was from Webosbuzz within the HP touchpad apps forum. That particular forum is private so you have to creat an account.
Good luck.
Ps the app seems to work ok. I have been able to get books from Amazon uk- no sideloading though.
Found the newest version: http://hotfile.com/dl/128523150/76e47a4/com.palm.app.kindle_0.11.499820_all.ipk.html

I found this version much buggier than the 0.10.494660 version - it tends to give a blank white screen much more regularly than the older version gives a blank grey screen!

That is quite some high horse your sitting on fella. It is easy for you to say that when you live in a land where the kindle app has not been withdrawn. Us euro users just want the same services that you have, after all we did pay more for our touchpads than you guys ever did.
It's not theft, it is digital liberation.

Does your viewsonic g-tablet NO LONGER appear in the Android Market?

I noticed several weeks back that my tab was not listed as a device in the the market when I visited the web-market. I could see my phone, but not my tab. It had been there. What happened to it? I began to think I broke *that* functionality of it somehow. I mean, I screw with my tab constantly.
I conveniently noticed there was an update for VeganGinger (7.10) so I went for it. Nope. No market device listing. (the 7.10 update broke it, I thot) Okay. Let's try Flashback. Nope. And, it's a *known issue.* Damn.
This morning, I emailed Google: For the last few weeks, I have been unable to "see" my device on the market. My phone is listed as my device, but my tablet has vanished from the list. I am still able to download apps from the tablet. It's just that my viewsonic g-tablet does not appear in the list of my devices. It's inconvenient when I want to install a market app to my tablet from the "web" android market.
A very nice person replied: Hi there, Thanks for contacting us today. According to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit: http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. I’ve provided a link below for your convenience: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
I was unsatisfied, and a bit annoyed, so I replied and asked: As I mentioned, my device *had previously* shown up in the market.
Does the removal of my device mean that google has changed their device compatibility specs? Or that they are enforcing those specifications more stringently?
Additionally, is there anything I can do to allow my device to show up again? Or am I caught between google and a manufacturer that has stopped supporting their device?
Their answer: Your device wasn't ever a supported device unfortunately.
It does sometimes take a while for Market to recognize that the device is unsupported but once it does it isn't reversible. Viewsonic should have suggestions for alternative app sources. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
WHAT? Not reversible? Oh dear.
One more question: Will the limited Market functionality I currently have on my viewsonic device continue, or will it "go away" in the future?
The google answer: At this time, I can't say for sure whether you'll retain the access you currently have or not. I'm not aware of any planned updates to Market that would affect this but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works behind the scenes.
So, my fellow Viewsonic aficionados, there is the answer to the "howcum I don't see my g-tab anymore...?" queries. I just thought you'd all want to know.
Dan
BTW, If this info helped you, don't hesitate to hit the "thanks" button, k?

Yep. Your choices are to use Amazon (which works fine) and keep using the Market app (updated one, if needed, for HC roms) to download updates & freebies from the Market directly on the device.
And continue to scratch your head at the mess that is Android.
I'm glad i sold my Gtablet and got the HTC Flyer when Best Buy had them on sale.

Thanks, Tidbit.
And now, we return you to the thread.
So, is anyone aware of a way to clear/change identifying info from the g-tab to restore this ability, or do we collectively think it's a lost cause?

Not having it show up in the web store is not a big issue for me. Just download from the market on the tablet?

I am betting that it has something that needs to be changed in the build.prop in /system
If we can figure out which part needs to be changed to transmit a different ID to the market, then I imagine we as GTablet users should be golden. I can still buy and install on the device, just not from Web Market. Oh well....I still have 2.3.7 and very few other users do...yay Cyanogenmod!
Same problem with 10s
I have the same problem with a Viewsonic 10s. Mine has a stock rom and installing the market apk didn't work. Will flashing a new ROM fix things? Or having Root access allow installing apps from the SD?
I still have a few says to return the tablet so if things don't resolve themselves soon, back it goes.

No. I have flashed three times since this discovery, to no avail.
You can *still* browse and install the apps from Android Market to your device.
*The only functionality this affects is the ability to install an app to your tab when you're browsing the Market from your PC.*
Dan
Doesn't the 'market fix' that changes the device ID to allow more apps to show up, already accomplish this?
build.prop... what device= do you use??

I was using 'olympus' as the device= in my G Tab build.prop but recently found I could not install the Eye-Fi app... so I changed the device= to 'sholes' (same as my original Moto Droid which downloaded the app just fine)... bust still no love on the G Tab.
what device= are you folks using in build.prop on your G Tab?
(I'm running Vegan 5.1.1)

I had this problem and it annoyed the hell out of me. Sorry, cant remember how i fixed it. Think i just flashed to cm7

[A] faking device type on android market! It is possible heres how!!

I was wondering if its possible to fake the device you have on the market so you can buy whatever you want on the atrix?
Now I've heard of an app called the eris market fix but it doesn't seem to work on our phones.
Does anyone know of an app that can do this that would work on the atrix? I've searched all over the place and I haven't found anything.
I even tried changing a few properties around in the build.prop file including faking a htc desire hd fingerprint. Now when I did this the market on my pc's internet shows my phone as an htc desire but not sure if I got everything right because the game I wanted to get still wont show up on the android market on my phone. Though there does have to be some way to fake the market in the build.prop somehow?? Other people have done this! Any ideas???
Update: It is possible refer to here for how to setup your build.prop properly to achieve this! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378982&page=6 Me and Atrix_E figured this out at 3:30 in the morning and I have work in 3 hours!! LOL Also thanks to D-lite for providing the fingerprint we used and nightmare911 for providing some of the rest of the specs enjoy

Can I connect my Xbox One controller to this device?

Ok, so I've seen that some users have been able to connect this controller to devices like the Nexus 5, so I'm wondering if it's possible on the N9?
I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDQqMH4POFQ [1] and followed the instructions.
However, the app it recommends (USB/BT JoystickCenter Free) using hasn't worked for me so far. I get to the step where I enable the touchscreen driver, and I get a message that says "Can not get access to '/dev/uinput'. Please install a Custom ROM with root rights."
I'm still at stock on this tablet, but it is rooted. Super SU is installed and working well with all other root apps.
I checked Super SU, the JoystickCenter has been granted superuser permissions in it.
Anyone have any advice on what to do? Anyone get a controller working with it?
I googled the issue and found out that some devices need a special custom kernel to enable this. Are any of the existing custom kernels set up for controller support?
I'd love to pull this off, because I just got KOTOR for Android and would love to use a controller with it.
Any help would be appreciated
Same here.
Flashing a custom kernel might help. I guess you need a kernel that provides the /dev/uinput device.
"uinput is a linux kernel module that allows to handle the input subsystem from user land. It can be used to create and to handle input devices from an application. "
I've got the same problem on my Oneplus One, the controller is recognized but I can't switch on the J>T option wich is vital to make the controller work...
Anyone has a solution ?
Did you see the FAQ page for the app:
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/pokes-android-apps/sME_vV9pPcE
No specific tips for N9, but several general purpose tips. As you pointed out, the main cause of failure is a kernel without device support.
On the YouTube vid you linked, someone posted in the comments that setting SELinux to Permissive helped him out.
I was gonna try this out, but the app has been pulled from the store. If it gets reinstated, I'll try it with the custom Rom I'm running (Dirty Unicorns 9.2 test build, LP5.1)

Hey, can one of you guys post the apk for the free version of the app. The app is no longer available on the PlayStore, and the developer doesn't have an XDA page. A Google search only brings up suspicious warez sites.
