Who watched the ICS launch and is even more angry about having a locked bootloader?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I watched the event. Now hoping that the X2 is on the list to get the update.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I am going to say that the X2 wont get it, at least not anytime soon until Moto breaks it down and skins it(so maybe next summer). The fact that there is so much built into the phone to function without buttons means that Moto has to build in and map their functionality. And, since supposedly the Xoom is the first to get it on tablet, you would think it would go to the Razr, then Bionic/Atrix 2/Photon 4g, THEN the lower end devices. Needless to say, I don't think you should get your hopes up.
I watched it though. I was VERY impressed with some of the things I saw! The lock screen portion with the video was really cool! However, I don't think I would want my phone to do that everytime, seems too tedious still. Maybe after the phone has been passive for 20 minutes or something like that.

How creditable is that fella, wolfe? 31 posts w/ 8 thx. If he had a connection like that you'd think his post count would be retarded with threads on unlocks since his buddy "...would come over to my house and unlock my bootloader".
Where can I watch a replay of the event?

Yeah, take it with a grain of salt for sure. Worth a read at least.
Here is why it had me thinking. Moto always blames Verizon for the BL. HTC and Sammy phones get unlocked all day. So why would Verizon bias Moto? It gets the gears churning boys...
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I don't believe any Moto phone has their bl unlocked, do they? The lock is all Moto. My gut is telling me if it were up to Google they would have all phones
unlocked and completely open.
Either way, thx for sharing! Good to see you lingering around here yet.

ATRIX, photon (aka MoPho), OG Droid, XOOM, and a couple more I believe.
Unlocked.
Edit: eris = HTC. Garbage phone btw.

Back on topic, I heard that all phones running 2.3 will get ics...that means us. So I have my hopes up. I also have my hopes that moto will make good on their deadline to unlock their devices.

My thoughts are, with the patent wars, Google is trying to cover their ass right now. Until the proposed deal is approved, they are wanting to make sure that nothing slips thru the cracks that could be harmful to their cause in the hands of the opposition. Not to mention, they probably have some new devices in testing along with new hardware components that would be in Google's best interest not to have leaked until they are certified by the FCC. I am going to have to give Google the benefit of the doubt, and say until the deal is approved, they are doing what they can to cover their asses.
As far as VZW being to blame for Moto, I think it has to do with the fact that Moto is an American company, and they can be pressured by big Red. Whereas HTC and Samsung typically have a broader market share outside of the US. Especially with Sammy being a monstrosity of a Korean company in all terms. I lived in Korea for 2 years(Army), LG and Sammy run their world over their! LG is even the biggest ISP! They are leaps and bounds beyond what we have in the US over there though. Thanks to the FCC and FTC! My computer monitors are 2 Innopix 24" OLED 1920x1200 and I bought them there almost 4 years ago for $150/ea! I built my entire computer setup there Feb 2008, I still score a 6.8 on Windows experience index. Cost me less than $1,500 for what would have cost $4,000 easily to buy off of Best Buys shelf... Not to mention Apple, ugh.

The simple fact that they locked the Razr before it is even released, lends me to believe your hopes will be crushed. Sorry man, no reason to lock a phone during the same period you stated you would unlock them.
Now, if 4.0 is still a "Google Experience" as other phones update to it, without their blur's and sense's like honeycomb was for tablets, MAYBE.
Didn't I read ICS requires 1G of RAM?

According to a spokesman, the lockdown was at the request of the carrier -- VZW, in this case. I am so sick of the shenanigans ...
I sent a tweet to moto asking if they have a list of phones that is going to get the ICS update. Maybe they will respond.

I understand the locked bootloaders because VZW probably spends thousands of dollars replacing phones for people who don't know what they are doing, just trying to impress friends. But still, we payed for it, its ours, we should be able to break it if we want
And I think we will get ICS, it just might take longer than expected.

Don't be so pessimistic. Motorola will listen when they realize how many millions they lose when people switch to a different manufacturer.

..this isn't the first petition I've signed regarding the locked bootloader, the last one I signed had well over 10 thousand signatures over a year ago. You confusing pessimism with a sense of reality.
They don't care what you think, and at the end of the day it's Verizon's call, why else would they claim by the end of 2011 they'd be releasing unlocked phones yet do exactly the opposite?

Then why did HTC get Verizon to allow them to unlock boot loaders? In the end, Motorola could force Verizon's hand. Somehow HTC did.

Here's an avenue that could possibly be pursued - forward a copy of the petition to the Federal Trade Commission for their input. Put it as a restraint of trade issue and you might get somewhere. If HTC/Samsung/LG phones are being unlocked, then it stands to reason that Verizon is keeping Motorola on a short leash and interfering with consumers rights.
I have participated in the soaks tests and it seems to me they do it more as a formality rather than caring on input. I say what I think there but I never see any changes that come from that input. It seems the soaks are released whether there are problems with them or not.
I can see why some would take a realistic view. Now if the deal for Google to buy Motorola gets approved I expect we will see some good changes. I am still hoping that makes it through. So I would say I am cautiously optimistic. Maybe the petition will help too though I expect the deal they have with Verizon might get in the way.
*Ignore*

It has been mentioned somewhere recently that the Motorola lockdown has.to do with obligations to some international contracts or some garbage.
Doesn't.Motorola make phones for the U.S gov't?
Maybe that's their "international overseas obligations "
Sounds very reasonable and likely

I was one of the early adapters who paid full price for it. Been waiting for 3 months for the promised bootloader unlock solution but instead of solution, motorola just made me feel stupid with my money. Check out the following thread for the words of treachery.

Happy days to everyone with their Razrs.

Why don't you just root & download & flash 2.3.6?
It's not that hard. 2.3.6 is visually different but I don't see a grat improvment over 2.3.5.
Stop fretting, Your not missing much.
Enjoy the Razr

Hey guys up for my upgrade and was thinking about which phone to get I like the battery and familiarity of the Max but the s3 is tempting too. So what's everyones thoughts?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
If it was me I would go S3. However I am a modding nut!! Moto's are such a pain to work with for the dev's and the community in general and the Samsung seems to be so much easier, not to mention the Galaxy is an awesome phone.
On the other side Moto has very durable phones as where all the Samsung phones I have ever seen aren't as durable. Not to mention Moto has always been known for the better Radio for your phone reception.
GL w/your decision making and let us know.
I'd say the SGIII, too. There's so much already done with that phone already and it's brand new. Plus I'm done with Motorola, even though the RAZR is a pretty sweet phone. Messed with a friends that just got ICS on it.
Get the SGS3. Razr is garbage. ICS does not run well on it.
Thanks guys for the info. Is there any other phones besides these two that would be a good option? I need to be able to root

I hope to be boarding that train soon as well. Will never own a Motorola phone again.
i'll be heading to the S3 soon as well! no moto support and locked bootloaders = unhappy camper.
I've kind of shifted into "a phone is a phone" mode. No compelling differentiation anymore for me with all the tech advances - I don't want a larger screen and don't need a faster CPU or more memory. But having said that, I'll probably upgrade next year to either Samsung or HTC. Moto's "lock it down hard for corporate IT departments" doesn't work for me as a consumer.
You can take my photon when you pry it from my cold dead hands... Or when the note 2 drops.

Are you kidding
You cannot expect such a huge update from Motorola ...
I've been using Moto Phones since last 10 years...
They'll never make their customers happy ... you'll have to give up...
The day when Motorola will understand that how to provide proper support to the customers, i bet no other company will survive in the market. Not even iphone... but all these companies know Motorola guys have no common sense ...

Official jellybean will not come before christmas as official ICS isnt even scheduled till Q4. My thoughts are that if they do not release official ics for the atrix, they will 'not' release it for the photon. If they do release it, however, then yes we will have fully working jb by christmas. But not officially from moto.
"Say Apple one more MoPho'n time..."
Well they did promise most Android Motorola phones released in 2011 will be getting Jellybean before the end of the year and if not will be receiving a 100 dollors towards an upgrade, to Motorola of course. They are Google owned now, it's not entirely impossible ...
