How can i set proxy in Android 4.0.3. In wifi settings > advanced there is no option to set proxy. In GB there was an issue with proxy not working for apps, only supported browser. With Android 3, this was fixed and i was looking forward to using my device at work with ICS but i am disappointed that im not able to set a proxy for my corporate network. Can i do this by shell (editing some file) or something ?
Please guide me, i am using CM9
nvr mind i found it, if you long press the network and select modify and then tick advanced options.
you can close this thread now.

Hello,
Im fairly new to all this, i used to have a G1 that supported proxy settings for the WIFI via a custom rom. However my x10 mini pro doesn't seem to have this, is there anyway i can get this extra settings?
Thanks,
Ant..
ok - so now that custom roms can be installed on this phone, does anyone know how the proxy settings are added to other custom rom phones? I have done some searching but it has taken me back here!!!
What do you want the setting for?
If you want to open the blocked sites then there is apps to do that.
i have the same problem- to conect ot my school network you need to be able to edit proxy settings!
Hi there
you can try this app:
WiFiACE (for WiFi Advanced Config Editor). You can find it in the market or via the appbrain app.
I use it to connect to my Uni network.
Cheers
Whenever I try to edit the rtsp/http settings for proxy manipulations (to speed up streaming), I find that I cannot pull anything up. i.e. when i press or long press the "RTSP/HTTP Setting" tab, nothing happens. I do not get the option to change anything.
I am currently using senseless rom 2.2 on a sprint evo 3d flashed over to cricket, S-ON, unlocked via HTC method. Even before I went to cricket, I was unable to edit this specific setting.
Does anyone know of another way to edit these settings? from QPST, or is there a pre-req that I am missing to be allowed access to this setting?
[UPDATE- SOLVED]
I solved this by reflashing a stock rom and then attempting the rtsp/http proxy editing. Apparently, there may be an issue with the senselessROM 2.2 and 2.7 that I was using before than disallowed me to edit this. Now, my youtube works on 3g, which is what I was trying to fix in the first place.
Also, the miui rom series does not register the ##data# command for editing settings. All changes for streaming proxies should be done on stock roms with msl codes obtained through qpst.

The main reason, I'm fairly sure is due to the /system/app/EPST.apk probably not being included in the Miui or senseless ROMs but is always included in the stock rom from sprint.
This apk file contains the broadcast receiver for the dialer codes and the additional functionality to allow for the adjustments and edits to be made.
Hope that helps provide a bit more insight!
Realize also if you do a complete wipe and reflash to another ROM. You will have to go back in reset your desired settings.

Hello, Im trying to use Orbot but my Ip doesnt change. It doesnt matter if I have Tor Everything checked or if I select apps to tor. When I start Orbot I get a warning that says "error starting transparent". (I did grant super user to Orbot)
Anything to do with an internet connection is SLOWED so greatly.
Anyone with any knowledge would be a huge help. Thank you.

What rom are you using because I am using ICS Omega and it does the same thing. It must be a problem with Orbots compatibility which is too bad.

Don’t know a whole lot about it but I read somewhere that Orbot's servers are just way slow.

from my experience with tor, it will always slow down an internet connection due to the nature of tor.
found orbot fix
What solved it was in setting first enable transparency proxy then choose your apps you want to proxy and then check off the use default iptables option and it should work.

That doesn't work for me. Still getting: "WARNING: error starting transparent proxying!" I'll see if a suggestion to use the Firefox browser with the ProxyMob addon is any more successful.
Sorry to here it did not work because my phone was doing he exact same thing so I uninstalled it but then gave it another try and it has worked since. I just played with those settings a little and it started working. I am using dolphin mini browser with success and my rom is Omega series 11.1 with latest SUCK kernal 3.0.15
Had the same issue, here is how i fixed it and have used multiple rom/kernel combinations with no issue.
Download droidwall from the market, run it one time (don't know if you have to do this but whatever)
Then I used es file explorer to navigate to
/data/data/com.googlecode.droidwall.free/app_bin/
copy iptables_armv5
now navigate to
/data/data/org.torproject.android/app_bin/
paste iptables_armv5
rename iptables to iptables.old
rename iptables_armv5 to iptables
reboot and profit.
I am currently running the O2 ICS ROM on my GSII (rooted): Courtesy of Faryaab's fine thread.
Base: I9100XXLPR
Build: XWLP3
Kernel: XWLP3
I need to use a proxy to access https:// sites. I can input the info by 'long-pressing' the wifi name > Modify Network > Show advanced options > . At this point I input the Proxy address and port then click save, but it doesn't! When I go back in the Proxy settings are reset back to 'None'.
Anyone have a solution to this - is it a bug? I will be updating to the new UK ROM when I get home which might help, otherwise I am scuppered!
You need to download an app.
I have ASProxy (paid) and it works fine for me to get outside my work's proxy server. I had tried a couple prior that didn't work for my situation.
There are others (both paid and free). Most of them require root, which you already have.
I may give something like that a go - but for the time being, I'm actually trying to use the proxy server that the service provider offers, the problem is I can't get my phone to save and use the settings. Every time I try it just seems to default back to no proxy.
Does ICS not support the use of proxy servers via the wireless settings? There is an option for it?
Edit: Having looked at ASProxy that seems to allow you to get around the fact that most Apps do not use the proxy settings you specify when you set up your wifi connection. Although I will need something like that, at the moment I can't even get the browser (default or Dolphin) to use the proxy I want as it won't 'stick' in the wifi settings.
Unable Wifi Proxy Address and Port
I am also facing the same issue on Coolpad Note 3 running Custom Lollipop 5.1.
When I enter the proxy details and click save and go back to check the advanced settings, they are gone.
Please guide me where I can fix this.
Thanks
Do you know if/how it is possible to change the DHCP server settings on wifi tethering on ICS stock Rom? It is rooted of course...I remember it was possibile some device back, but the options we have now not includes this setting.
