Can someone give me an idea of the feasibility of creating a glow in the dark screen protector? It would have to be somewhat transparent ( doesn't have to be comepletely transparent) and unnoticable during the day but still glow in the dark.
If that isn't possible, could I buy a screen protector and paint it with transparent glow in the dark paint to get similar effects?
And then if none of those are possible, could someone tell me where o could find glow in the dark tissue paper or wax paper. (Yes, I'm going to try it)
Any other ideas? I kind of want to stay away from clip on flashlights. Something about them bothers me....oh and don't say built in flashlight case either because those bother me too.

Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of reading on an eInk device? Even worse, not only will it shine in your eyes as long as you're reading, it will also bring the contrast way down.
When i want to read in the dark i use my $.99 book light i got off ebay.. I would suggest looking into one. much easier.

Maybe you could get a slimmer version of this:

Flex Lighting's LED film looks promising, but I can not find it on sale anywhere. (sorry I can not post links yet, so please google )
That looks like something they designed to be built into the reader and not added on. There are no visible wire or anything. The description said that its a film applied to the screen that is powered by a single led. Looks like they turned it on with a switch on the bottom of the reader. Very cool concept but i think its going to be something used on new models..as a built in function.
If you go to their website it shows an exploded view of a kindle with the film under the the bezel.. they have a very broad list of possible applications. and then ask you to connect them with your specific application. I would assume so they could quote you on a custom order base. So to me it looks as if they as gearing themselves to manufactures and not consumer addons.
Now is possible that you could get quotes from them for an order of 1 but then you would have to place it in the nook tap into the power of the nook and install an on/off switch.
saw flex light articles earlier which partially inspired the glow in the dark screen protector idea.
To me, it seemed like a built into the device kind of thing, like persichini is saying. But then again, I don't see why it would be so difficult for them to create an external film for people with old e-readers. Of course it could be too costly to design a individual screens for all the popular e-readers...
Hopefully Amazon and B&N don't take forever to implement flex light into their designs.

Chip05, I just realized that it might be a great idea. It seems that there are some "glow in the dark" paint/tape/spray on Amazon. We should try it! Haha, if it works then the Flex light film idea will be dead! Maybe it can be patented!

Definitely! I was looking around and found some websites that sell spray paint that is supposedly transparent in daylight. I'm going to order a can and a cheap screen protector to try it out. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've been thinking about adding a Joule Thief to my nook cover, but I haven't had a chance to pick up the parts. I don't like the clip-on lights as they don't work too well and are bulky, but I think I could add a joule thief in relatively easily.
This is also interesting:

But its on 3 AAAs. Maybe smaller it would be better for NST.
1. Screen protector + glowing spray = fail.
Why? Learn physics.
1. How long do You think it will glow? Most of fluorescent materials shine for several minutes to an hour after being "charged" by exposing to very bright light.
2. How bright do You think it would be? The glow is very dim, so You just can see it, but You wont be able to illuminate anything with it.
3. Transparency. The thing was discussed here. To the low light conditions You are adding the lowered transparency of protective screen.
4. The glowing film as the light source is situated between the screen and your eyes. It actually obscures the vision of the text.
Maybe there are paints that have the above problems resolved but they will cost.
You are free to experiment. But IMHO You are going to get either useless thing or something as expensive as You reader itself.

Caulk it!
Being in construction field for over 25 years Ive learned caulk fixes everything.
Ok before taking on this project make sure your device has real leak.
You can do this by placing piece of black electrical tape over captive buttons.
If you still see light seeping out sides you have leak.
Now to the fix:
A couple Items needed.
1:Black Caulk- I recommend DAP premium indoor/outdoor sealant , It can be found at Lowe's hardware for 3.89.
Its crackproof ,water tight , Permanently flexible and most importunity easy cleanup thus no worries of beating up your screen
2:small sponge
3:Water
4aper towels
The key to success is taking your time , Don't get the stuff all over the place work clean
Arep around light leakage area making sure all grime is removed.
I did this using damp fiber cloth.
B:Take some caulk out of tube place in paper plate so it easy to work with.
C:Apply small dabs of caulk at light leaked area pressing it in firmly with finger nail.
D: Damp Sponge away excess cleaning up area.
You many have to apply areas a couple time in order to get good seal to block light but hey its well worth it.
After leaks are sealed clean screen damp cloth.... make sure no leftovers are on screen/device & let sit for a couple hours until caulk dries.
Mine had leakage on entire bottom and a slight 1/4" up both sides.
LIGHT LEAKAGE IS NO MORE
Hmmm.... a ballsy Mod that I might actually do. the light leakage doesn't really bother me too much, but I'm use to my EVO 4G's light leakage issue, lol
good going though!. can we have a pic in total darkness and one with a lot of light to see how it works, and how it looks on the phone itself?
This actually works, it has been done on za original EVO.
LOOKS LIKE I HAVE IT AFTERALL. Oh well, not too bad and I use Screen Filter app from Market for viewing at night.

I just looked at mine in the dark and have determined that the light leakage on bottom and sides is just a reflection from capacitive buttons and not leakage.

No prob. I'm gonna see if tape over the buttons kills the "leak" make sure it's a reflection or actual leakage.

wow really?. I never thought that covering it witha case would block the light from emitting from the case as WELL!
Obviously not everyone wants a case on their phone, I know I've never liked cases to add extra bulk to the phone. as much as I do is a screen protector
I have leakage on mine, and I am super picky with phones. For some reason this light leakage doesn't feel the same like other light leakages. I mean the LED is so strong on the buttons it actually feels like it shines on the sides and the bottom. I cant even see it during the day, only in a dark room. So I am actually not bothered by it. I had the thunderbolt for a week or two and at the bottom it had two white dots sticking out, now that bothered me.

So In case you're just tuning in, My name's Zoidpilot. In a few past posts I've described how I got it in my head to paint my cover (it's a horror story), I've repainted the very same cover and added a how-to for my friends here to have a drink of the creative juices, and finally I dabbed a little in taking requests as a test to see how it would work out.
For a preview of my work:
White 3DEVO
Project Crimson + How To
Blue Crush
I'll try to keep this one short and sweet.
I AM NOW TAKING REQUESTS FOR WORK. I WILL INCLUDE PICTURES OF EACH PROJECT AND POST RESULTS.
I hope to get a fairly good amount of feedback. Good or otherwise. Let's keep it clean guys this is all in good fun
THA RULES:
1. Everyone that wants one must add me as a friend. That way I can keep track of orders.
2. I will use this thread as the place where you guys can make requests and we can PM back and forth and post results and pics for everyone to see (to be safe).
3. Users who request one MUST have a paypal account, it's the best way to send money and it's insured in case something happens.
4. I have a base price for a set design (like the white n black I already did) and will charge accordingly to how complicated or intricate your design gets.
5. I would ask users to let me take and keep pictures of each one I do so I can catalog and show off to get more customers.
6. I would only provide this service to friends here at XDA. You must be a member to request a case, and I sincerely ask you to have a least the 10 post minimum. I will however make exceptions depending on the circumstances. Let's keep this site BOT and TROLL FREE.
I have faith in my skills and I am a reasonable person. If you feel you don't need some random guy online to do it for you, follow the steps on my how-to.
THA RATES:
IF YOU SEND IT AND I PAINT IT FOR YOU (2 COLOR MAX): $25
ADD $2.00 MORE FOR EACH EXTRA COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE FROM ME PAINTED (2 COLOR MAX): $45
ADD $1.00 MORE FOR EACH EXTRA COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE
EXTRA DESIGNS GO FOR $2.00
( If you don't agree with the rates, please consider that HTC sells the cases for $40 stock. If you can procure them yourself online for cheaper, just send it to me instead.)
Feel free to use this page for requests. You can also PM me, but I can reply to the thread faster through instant notification (courtesy of the awesome XDA app).

Some kind of paint I think you called pearl-something. Where it changes color depending on the angle you look at it. You said you were going to see about getting some of that paint!
OHHHH YEAH! Hell I'll look it up now I'm bored at work anyway. Stay posted
Hmmm I found some awesome stuff! Seems like I gotta trick it into turning pearlescent though. See as an example: On cars to get the pearlescent effect (one color in one light, then another in a different angle or light) you have to set a base layer, then chose a metallic layer to give off the sheen, then a lighter layer of a different color on top of that to give the dual color effect. I'm gonna experiment with it when I get the can. I think it might come in monday so more than likely monday night I'll have some frankenstein thing to show off.

Hi,
I got my S2 a couple days back and was watching a movie in a completely darkroom and noticed that the screen wasn't truly black when the title were playing. I initially thought it was an issue with movie so I tested the screen with a pure black screen (*#0*#) and noticed that the screen glowing a tad lighter than black and I had several black patches on the screen. This is extremely annoying when using apps that have a lot of black or when watching movies. the dark patches and streak is also noticeable in the clock app in the dark grey patterned lower area. I have seen this issue mentioned in another post but there is no definitive answer as to whether this problem can be fixed or goes away after some usage. I would just like to know if I should send this in for replacement? What are my other options?
I also noticed that my 3 day old phone already had slight notification bar burn ins and even my google search widget seems to be burning in to the screen. Honestly I am extremely disappointed with these QC issues and this is my second unit as I had the first replaced for other screen issues.
I'd return it now for a NEW replacement, before the time expires. After a certain timeframe, only repair warranty most likely available, and that will probably take longer.
In some cases, it could be only 1 week.

ya I have a 30 day replacement offer so I guess I will be using that. Hope I'm lucky the third time around.
You may already know this, but;
If you send it back and your phone is rooted, custom rom etc, ensure you flash back stock firmware and get a usb jig to reset the samsung custom flash counter and remove warning triangle.

Edit/update
Im on Gingerbread 2.3.3 XWKF3 (India)
If someone could please try this simple test and let me know their results, I would be very grateful.
Test Procedure:
- Find a completely dark room (easier at night)
- goto phone keypad and dial *#0*#
- tap the button that says Black (Vibration)
- now look directly at the screen for a few seconds and let your eyes adjust
At this point do you see?
a) pure black (cannot distinguish btw bezel and screen),
b) an even mild glow, sort of like a backlight
c) a glow along with patches/blotches of pure black?
I see option (c). Could some of you pls do this test and let me know your results. This problem can also be seen, under the same dark conditions, if the clock app is opened. If you have the same problem I have, then you should see dark patches in the grey area.
I tried out before my last reply, but in dim (not dark) conditions, seemed ok.
Now tried as you suggested, and let my eyes adjust for a few second, I can see what your saying.
Maybe this its part of the super amloed + screen?
So in short , I'll take answer C

Maybe more users realise they have through same (or to a degree) , but i suppose if there is no noticeable difference during day to day use (including movies etc), i wouldn't even bother.
In your case, i'd still go with the return for new. No guarantee though...

Well here's a photo to better demonstrate my issue. It is a little exaggerated by the camera but still pretty accurate. One can also see that the glow has a reddish tint. It was taken with a DSLR in hi res. You can see just how bad it is. Yes this is not that noticeable if the room isn't really dark but it's pretty damn bad in my room with all the lights out. And thats how I usually read at night. I wouldn't even mind an even glow but the splotches are unacceptable.
Ok your screen is clearly a QC fail. Go and exchange it ASAP. The screen does have a faint glow because it needs to be powered, but it should be a VERY faint and even glow perceptible only in pitch black conditions.

They're artifacts of the screen so you will never see them on a screenshot.

Some of you were mentioning you didnt like how the LEDs on keys seemed pink or not true red, well i had some time on my hands and i changed my white LEDs to Red ones, which offer a much nicer red to the keys and here are some pics to show the two left which i changed to red, and the 2 right which are the standard stock ones.

Pretty slick dude, and how sad is it HTC didn't think of this themselves?! Did you take any pics of the phone taken apart of the LED's you used?
A tutorial and/or pics would be awesome! That looks much better.
they might have thought the red shining up instead of white would be distracting on the screen, who knows.
either way, those are some pink ass buttons...but now they look as red as mine lol
Nice pictures, easy to see what people were talking about when they said they had pink buttons.
Was it just a colored strip that changes the color from white to red (Pink)?
Okay, now I know mine are def red. Was driving myself crazy looking at them this morning wondering if they were turning pink on me or if it was an optical illusion against the red design on the wallpaper. lol. But even in my paranoia I didn't see anything truly pink like that.
But what I really want to know is what are you hiding on your screen?
That's cool. I didn't think mine looked pink enough. Would be awesome to make the pink stand out even more.
Is this phone a mess on the inside with the double sided sticky tape also? I hated having to heat up the Thunderbolt to get between the LCD & digitizer.
My keys don't look near as pale as yours do. U can tell they are red but they aren't dark... I think they didn't do red leds because of the screen leak and they were already going to make the keys red anyway.
But I think the red leak looks kind of sweet. Not sure how I would like it at night though...
U wanna do mine next? Lol.

Wow, nice mod. pwrdbykyank, YGPM
lol, i didnt take any pics of it apart this time, but i have pics up on the disassembly thread i made of it how it looks where the leds are. I used 0603 leds. There is no strip covering the original, they are just white leds. the digitizer glass is just tinted red to show red. Also the light doesnt leak onto the screen, i just tilted the phone and took a pic like that so you guys can see where the two red are and the two white. you can only see it by looking at a sharp angle from top down like that, or else you dont see the red coming on the screen Looks good at night, i wanted to add 2 LEDs to where the earpiece grill is, so that would light up on notification buttt looked like way to much work and i didnt want to alter the housing around to run wires through it so i said forget it lol.
oh ya and i covered the screen so the camera wouldnt focus on the LCD light, it kept bluring so ya lol or else my desktop is as plain as it came out of the box haha

Hello everyone,
I have a Mi 11 Lite with a Huaxing panel. I noticed there is a bluish spot (see below for screenshots) on the screen and thought it is a dead or stuck pixel. First, I tried some apps that claim to fix dead/stuck pixels, but they did not work. I am confused since, as far as I know, AMOLED panels do not cause dead pixels. What are your thoughts about that? Is it a dead/stuck pixel or just dust behind the pre-applied screen protector?
Thank you for your help!

You have stereoscopic vision, the images do not ie no depth perception.
You can see this far better than we can with 2D pics.
It could be damage to a few of the matrix drivers*.
Unless it spreads it's not a huge issue.
*there are many thousands of them in the active matrix.

Firstly, thank you for your answer. By the way, the screen did not get any physical damage. As I understand from your answer, it is a normal thing in AMOLED panels and I should not worry about that, right? I hope it does not spread.

It's a defect if it's not dust.
If new you could consider returning it.
It may be benign or a harbinger of a larger impending failure.
Likely it's just an isolated manufacturing flaw that was ignored or not spotted.
Get the app Screen Test on Playstore and run it to see what you got. It will make any defects more readily visible. Start there.

It is visible on the white, red, and green backgrounds, but not on the blue or black backgrounds.

That's a good sign.
In your second image it looks like lint. It may well be a piece of blue lint like from a microfiber cloth.

I do not want to remove the pre-applied screen protector for now in case of scratches etc. So, I am going to order a new screen protector to replace the pre-applied one. I hope it is just lint from the factory while applying the screen protector (afaik they do the process in a dust-free environment, but we will see). To me, it looks like some type of pixel issue Thank you for your help again! I will tell you the result.

Use some stereoscopic magnification on it. A point light source at different angles as well.
It may be a piece of lint under the screen.
Either way it is harmless if so.
A spot defect in the driver matrix could produce unpredictable colors variations of the spot so it impossible to tell from the screen test alone. Blown pixels are easy to spot... it's not that.
Leave the factory protector on until it wears out.
Lol, order more than one in case the first apply fails.

[Update]
I removed the screen protector but it is still there. I am probably the only Mi 11 Lite user who experiences this issue. I am so unlucky
So it is either dust under the display or definitely a dead/stuck pixel.
By the way, its visibility changes when I adjust the brightness (high brightness = low visibility / low brightness = high visibility). Maybe you can interpret this situation.
For now, I have nothing to do but hope it does not spread.

It's not just the organic leds but the active driver matrix built into the display with thousands of semiconductor junctions that drives the leds. Either the led is out of spec or it's not being supplied with enough current from its driver(s).
It may remain as is or get worse... it probably wouldn't spread.
