i have Cingular 8525 and have just finished the radio upgrade to 1.56.70.11. and i can say that it's pretty good, no it;s awesome! the signal went 1 bar up! and I'm happy I did it!thanks to wiki!
http://www.mediafire.com/?2ms0vu4mb1d
I just flashed this. Will see how it goes and report. update..I have not noticed any difference than with 154.30.10
AT&T Phoenix Az USA
Remember, the radio rom is carrier specific. Just because its awesome for one person doesn't mean it will be good for you and your carrier. Try to minimize flashing of radio rom as it is the ONE thing that pretty much results in a PERMANENT BRICK, at this time, if the flashing is interrupted..
Cheers....
Has anyone in Australia tried this Radio Rom on their phones using Telstra? If so, do you recommend it?
Testing it with T-Mobile UK.
So far looks fine.
drained my hermes battery from 94% to 68% now in just 3hours time. no calls or other wireless activities going on, just a few sms. reverting back to 1.47.... i forgot the numbers
i just install and i enable my 3G network.. my 3g network went up 1 bar..
but for this radio rom my battery usage is lower.. then 1.54.30.10

will test it tomorrow, using the same test.
Just curious how the test came out? I ran it but do not know what is good or bad.
Anyone from the philippines tried this already? Is flashing radio not as safe as flashing a rom?
Drains battery
I've tried this new radio and it drains battery too freaking fast.
I've since reverted back to 1.54.30.10

I reside at Singapore and subcribe to M1(Mobile 1). Using PDAVIET(PV DVH): 5.2.20226 - Build 20226.1.3.0 ROM
Been running it for awhile and didn't have problem with the battery life til I upgraded to this new radio.
Now it's back to the previous radio and it's as usual again.
3G is definitely faster than the previous one i had (from x01ht)

well after using this radio rom i came back to 1.43.10.70 the reason is that 1.56 uses way too much power, and this one is perfect for me using battery and it picks a good signal.
flashed this radio - from first impression the radio rom is good (receiving, data transfer ,,,)
will test for few days and report
i am on Orange Israel

Hello XDA.
I'm considering to flash a custom rom on my htc hero. I'm wondering which custom rom does have the best battery life, which would you recommend?
I would like a rom that can last a day, so that i only have to charge over night?
By the way, how do i find out if i have the gsm or cdma edition?

If you live in the us you have the cdma. Every other place in the world use gsm.

Battery life has more to do with how you use the phone rather than the rom, most are similarly optimised now.
It nice to hear. How much battery time do you get?
Which ROM would you recommend? Been Thinking of installing beHero.

Personally i get between 1-4 days on a standard battery depending on how I use the phone, and I get between 4-10 days on my extra life battery (3000 mah).
I use VillainROM and am currently on 5.2, but 5.3 is out in about 30 mins or so. I have heard good things about many of the roms, check out their features and see which you prefer.

Not necessarily! The US does use GSM as well as CDMA - it just uses a different set of frequencies. A Telus Hero is a GSM Hero and will work on AT&T in the US.

It can brick your phone, however as long as you don't flash a GSM radio on a CDMA hero or visa versa (assuming they have cdma radios?) you are fairly safe. Also don't pull the battery out whilst its happening. Just be patient, it can take a while for some people apparently (10 mins or more), though it takes about a minute on mine.
All the radio does it let your phone know where signal towers are, from what I gather. Though people often talk about some radio's working better with certain rom's and they apparently affect battery life - i'm not entirely convinced.
Okay. Could it have any effect on my signal strengh? Are you using the laste radio rom?
Thanks for the help and guides. Now i've got it all up and running Has been a greate help, and i'm really looking forward to use android 2.1 Will see if i change back to HTC when they can get their act together and release the 2.1 update for android

Yes I'm on the latest radio. I noticed a difference, before i only ever got 2 bars of signal max, now it ranges from 0 to full.
If you continue with the 2.1 custom roms when the devs get the new kernal i'm sure there will be some nice features.

just a last question. When you get 1-4 days on the standard battery, do you turn it off at night? And how much do you use it during the day, for texting, calling, internet and so on?

Stays on at night, for my alarm in the morning. I use it for calls for approximately 30-60 minutes every couple of days. Send about 10-20 texts a day. Usually check for updates to apps on a daily basis, as well as twitter updates and some browsing of the net when i'm away from computer. Not heavy use really.
Just make sure you turn stuff off when you're not using it - i.e. wifi, 3g, bluetooth, sync, backlight, etc (there is a power control widget for most of these, and a 3g widget separate)
Mine might get 3 days with moderate-low usage.I have Villain Rom 5.3 and of course i keep closed bluetooth,wifi,gps,3g when i don't use them. Also i have Advanced Task Manager to kill all apps that might run on the background when i don't need them.
Hi all,
Many of you have upgraded your firmware thru leaked versions posted elsewhere on this forum. My question is to all those who have used the leaked versions. What are the points of difference between the performance of these three versions : KF3, KG1 & KG2. If I understand correctly, only KG1 has Android 2.3.4 out of these three versions. So if you can share your experience about whether there is a change in Battery life, smoothness of operation, other visual changes etc.
We, in India, are still on KF3 officially and still waiting for the KG2 upgrade via Kies. But I'm using KF3 currently and Battery life has improved considerably over KE8 in the current version. Is it worth upgrading to KG2 via the leaked firmware or should I wait for the official update from Kies?
I'm on the leaked KG2 2.3.4 with a custom ROM.
I must say, battery life is amazing. I can go through a day of heavy use leaving home at 7am and getting home at 7pm with 40% or higher battery life remaining.
Mind you, this is heavy use from watching netflix (movies), browsing the web, texting, phone calls, and playing games all while the 3G is running in the background with gps location, email syncing ans google sync.
So far, I'm loving KG2 2.3.4.
I was running KG1 2.3.4 for about a week before flashing KG2.

KG2 modem does have a stronger WiFi signal .
jje
I havent had any real battery problems since I swapped to a custom rom and nuked all the bloatware.
2.3.4 has its advantages like video in gtalk and the androidOS bug is all but gone (for me anyhow)
As far as wifi, I never had any problems with it, maybe it didnt show that many bars, but it didnt seem to have any problems even on 1 wifi bar
Looks like KG2 is an improvement over the previous firmware. I am tempted to switch to KG2 immediately going by your encouraging feedback. Will wait for a few more days for the official Kies release to come.....if it doesn't, then I'm also gonna flash the KG2

It is 2.3.4.
Thank you, Octavius69, for confirming.
KG3 has the best battery life ever. Today I watched movies, played games, I had screen on time of 3.5 hours, and battery was at 55%. That means if I kept on, I'd get around 7 hours of screen time. A big improvement over KG2, even though the Android OS bug is still there.
Is anyone else having a problem with their wifi being connected and not working?
Ever since i flashed KG2 with the one Darkyy released ( Thanks by the Darkyy) everything has work perfectly and battery life is great. The only thing is the wifi and it seems to happen after it's been connected for awhile and when i wake the phone to browse say the market, it doesn't have a signal even tho 2 bars are showing, so i reconnect and it works again. It only happens now and then and i think there could be an issue with the mobile network as a couple have calls have gone to voicemail even tho i'm sure i had a signal.

Did you flashed stock kernel? It's a known prob that stock kernel could break wifi.
Just got my GS2 and having HORRIBLE battery life. It's locked with 2.3.3 KG2, so I'm wondering if it's a defect or if it's the build, in which case I'll get 2.3.4.
Other than the battery issues, I love the phone, but I already miss my Nexus One just a little...
Running turl v8 build ICS on AT&T radio N_01.77.37P.
Got a couple of issues I can't seem to find others reporting, wondering whether its my radio (should I downgrade to 36P or other?).
- wireless hotspot will automatically turn itself off as soon as its turned on. So unusable.
- Sometimes when turning on navigation, I'll lose all mobile data (navigation of course then fails as it can't grab directions). Resolve by turning airport mode on and off again.
any others running Turl ICS build on my radio seeing same issues?
EDIT: Confirmed issue with that radio and turl v8, downgrade to N_01.77.36P fixed it. I didn't immediately realise it was the radio as I was already running 37P when I flashed turl.
best radio?
Are the radio specific to network or are they generic and one fits all model?
I upgraded to 37P soon as it was available and went back to 36P after a couple of days of data connectivity issues and funky website and app data problems. Been fine since I went back to 36P. Dunno what they changed. Wifi and data speed tests seemed the same, but connectivity was balked up. Been running 36P for a long time with all ROM's and no issues with it.
I have been on 37p for a few weeks. Without using edge or 3g my battery lasts 2 days and maybe 12 more hours if i dont use it too much.
But im on nottachtrix, while i was on cm9 it did a day or so just like any other regular android.

ohhh...that's amazing. What is your average talk time during one cycle of recharging your battery??
I will be traveling soon. I have the JellyBean leak by izap on my phone right now... The battery life is somewhat ok, but I have network issues with it sometimes. People can't get to me even when my phone shows full signal strength. Therefore, I would like to know if there is a Modem/Ril/Rom combination that features stability and is most suitable for making and receiving calls internationally. It would also be good if the combination isn't a battery sucker while searching for network while not in range.(Because this seems to be an issue with many people :-/ )
While traveling these are my top requirements from the GS2:
Stability- no SoD or incompatibility with networks abroad.
Battery life- no battery drain while it isn't being used
GPS- quick locks in remote areas (I already seem to have a solution for this; but haven't tested it yet)
Camera- no pink spot or noise (Could you also recommend a good camera firmware for Fujitsu M5MOLS that fixes FPS issues and pink spot? -I've tried solution in every Camera issue thread I could find on the forum, but I still get pink spot)
Thanks! I'm looking forward to your replies! :fingers-crossed:
Just in case this question isn't in compliance with the forum rules, then I'll be sorry and the Mods can move it/delete it.

To be honest your expectations are too high.Your wanting what everyone on here wants, and it doesnt exist. This is why were all tinkering with roms.
In some of requirements, while one thing improves, another will diminish i.e battery life.
I currently use rooted GB stock, stripped down with all the crap removed.I used to use nelp3 modem(gave best signal),but according to callers, speech was choppy.
I'm on NeatRom Lite 4.0 (JB leak), and see in better battery stats that "No or unknown signal" is 99.3%, and I have been in areas with good reception all day, so something is not right with the LS6 modem here in Norway. And I'm not sure if there is any other modem/ril for JB leak?
As for stability and battery time, CM9 stable worked great for me, so maybe have a look at that? With litle use, batterydrain where less than 10% pr 24hour on stock battery...

You can use other modems for Leaked jb but not other rils.
Leave ther ril alone and change the modem. Read through the thread for information how to change modems.
Will it not make phone reception worse if ril is not matched to modem?

No, Modem will reception will be improved somewhat but not 100 % because the mismatch.
Before the ril modem relationship was discovered people use to change modems with out any problems whatsoever.

I see in here that I should be using a XW modem, and not the XX in the leaked jb rom, so I better try another modem and see how it works out.
@jj_95nano You should probably have a look at the modems for the region you are travelling (2 first letters), but as that thread has not been updated since summer, I don't know if theire recommended modems are still valid...
You could also maybe check the signal strength of your provider on where your going.
I went on holiday recently where the tmobile reception was crap, and vodafone was a lot better.
*gets into a dilemma*
Just flashed the latest stock ICS 4.0.4 for my region... There are many bugs and FCs... I wanna flash GB, but the GB for my region is infamous for its battery drain. I guess I'll keep CWM Backups of different ROMs and try them out when I'm on the go. :-/
Depends where your going ^^
If I was taking my S2 over seas, I'd get a sim card for that region (could prob get one prior to travel), leave a redirect to no. on my voicemail. Then I would get a cwm flashable modem for the region & install it on the plane to destination. Rom wise, MIUI gb/ics - would be your best bet... everything works out of the box. Stay away from JB, unless you have a laptop handy, then it wouldn't really matter

Okay.. So I'm downloading MIUI and I have some modems of the places I'm gonna go to. The only problem is everytime I flash a modem there will be a Modem+RIL mismatch... But actually to solve that I can flash only one modem for the country I'll be in the longest. Let's see how it goes!

Yep I'm on a plan with international roaming... I finally got MIUI ICS and NeatROM Lite dual booted. The modems on the ROMs are matching with RIL and don't seem to be draining battery, so I think I'll stick to these.
