CWM recovery sdcard error - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On 2.3.3 i installed CF-ROOT that comes with CWM recovery 4 and that works perfect
But on 2.3.6 XWKL1 i installed CF-ROOT that comes with CWM recovery 5 but in every sdcard related option it says "E:Error Mounting /sdcard/" like i can't install even a zip
Any solution?
I tried many flashes/full wipes/flashed from odin/flashed from mobile odin but the same error

[Q] how can I update CWMv2 to v5 in a rooted GS2?

Hey XDA,
I finally rooted my GS2 yesterday. I want to install a Custom Rom and before that I went to check CWM Recovery and found out I have version 2. I know that the latest version is v5 and that v2 doesn't have all the options v5 does.
I've searched for an answer to my question and I know I have to download the update, and flash it with Odin in the PDA section. Problem is that all the guides I've seen say: "you can now root your phone with SuperOneClick"
After I flash the CWM v5 update, do I loose root and do I have to root again?
Can you still please explain how I can update it?
Thanks!
What are you asking about .
One CWM recovery that comes via rooted flash v 4 or v 5
Or CWM manager v2-0 a phone app .

I'm already rooted but the CWM app in my phone is v2 and I need v4 or v5. After reading the "NEW HERE" guide, I found out I'm not booting into CWM Recovery but it boots into Stock Android Recovery Mode, even after I choose the option to do it in the app. I went into the CWM app and it says the Kernel is unknown.
What can I do?

Who says and where is this CWM 5 i dont think you are reading the instructions ,
After reading the "NEW HERE" guide, I found out I'm not booting into CWM Recovery even after I choose the option to do it in the app
Then that tells me you do not have a phone with CWM recovery installed .
Why well CWM MANAGER v 2-0 boots fine to CWM Recovery v 5 .
Root + CWM 5 from here flash via ODIN .

Please note once more CWM recovery is not CWM manager and vice versa .

I think I got confused.
My problem is: I can't boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery. I just can't. Yes, my phone is rooted, I did it yesterday, I know it's rooted because I can use Titanium.
I followed this guide to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
I chose this insecure kernel from CF's thread: CF-Root-SGS2_CE_XEN_KI2-v4.2-CWM4.zip
In my phone, I have an app named CWM, I click the app and it gives me the option to boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery but when I click it, it takes me to stock android recovery.
Hope this can help you help me!

That thread contains multiple ways to root, but judging by your need to flash a kernel, I presume you followed the guide which tells you to flash a stock kernel afterwards. In doing that, you removed CWM recovery.
To keep CWM recovery, you have to install a kernel which includes it (such as CF-Root). Easiest way to get it back is to just re-flash the CF-Root kernel you already downloaded.
Yes, you're right, I chose the guide that told me to flash a stock kernel afterwards. Thank you for clearing this up!
When I flash this kernel again, will I have to use S2 root to root it again? or will it remain rooted?

As the name implies, CF-Root is already rooted.

No such thing exists .
You want the non XDA Samsung update route then flash your original saved rom to wipe root ..
Or just update via Kies .

Stock rom flashed removes CWM recovery .
But you are confused CWM recovery does not update that is Samsungs OTA .
Stock roms are posted in XDA General and available via KIES if released for your phone or via CHECKFUS and flashed via ODIN .

I downloaded the I9300XXBLFB stock ROM and extracted the recovery.img file from it. I flashed it the same way as I did with CWM. It appeared to be successful but it somehow still has CWM. I have even tried the stock recovery images from the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit but still has CWM even though it says upload successful. What on earth is going on?? I can't use Kies because I am currently using Ubuntu because Windows on my PC is messed up.
Flash the I9300XXBLFB stock rom via odin and the stock recovery is back.

[Q] S2 Problem HELP!!!

i recently installed miui v5 on my galaxy i9100 i tried it out and didint like it so i downloaded the ressurection kitkat 4.4 rom i tried to flash it (i was using cmw recovery version 6) which it came it while installing something like 'installation aborted (status 7)' so i thought okay ill flash miui back and get another rom, i flashed back the miui it installed all correctly but when i rebooted the phone it gets stuck on the samsung boot logo and i get nothing so i went back into cmw to see if i could found out whats happend, i tried to wipe/factory reset the phone through cmw and i get 'error mouting sd card.android secure.. so i went into mounts/storage and tried to wipe the sd card just by itself that didnt work i also like an idiot whiped my external storage (usb storage) that had the Roms/gapps in and now im stuck and cant do anything, there is no sideload on cmw.. so what can i do to flash a new rom and what rom can i use that will 100% work smoothly i want it to be 4.4
okay . first up stop panicking and all will be cool . i assume you can enter recovery mode ? switch your device off , remove the sd card and place a newer version of cwm recovery by a sd card reader ( http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/recovery/CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip ) . Also Place the rom ( the one you wish [since you want it be kitkat , i recommend you to flash cyanaosp ] ) after you are done copying both files on sd using a card reader , place the sd back and plug the battery in . boot into recovery mode and flash the cwm-kitkatcompatible recovery . after you have flashed it , reboot recovery ( under advanced ) and you'll be running cwm recovery v6.0.4.5 . Then wipe data , cache , dalvik cache ( under advanced ) and then flash the rom . reboot system and you'll be running cyanaosp .
here are a few important links : CyanAOSP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576407
P.S. : Report and feel free to ask anything and hope i helped ... do as i said and you'll be fine . All the best

To root the s2 and install cwm.. Because the kernel and recovery are together on the s2 you just flash a kernel on firmware like 4.1.2 . So if you flash say philz kernel on 4.1.2 firmware you get custom stock kernel and root and cwm all from the one zip.
Edit.. Sorry about the link. Get 4.1.2 from Sammobile.com.
