I followed this method to root my phone by flashing an insecure kernel, using S2 Root and then flashing back a secure kernel, http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
I have installed ROM Manager because I want to back up my ROM and try other ROMs. It suggests ClockworkMod is required for this. ROM Manager includes an option to install it. But when I donthat and the phone boots I see...

I get the same error when I try other ROM Manager options like backup.
Please help.

So ROM Manager doesn't work with this CF Root method and it doesn't work with the S2 Root app method. So it simply does not work fully on Samsung Galaxy S2?

Yes stop using it, just flash the cf-root kernel and boot into its recovery to flash roms.
On 2.3.3 i installed CF-ROOT that comes with CWM recovery 4 and that works perfect
But on 2.3.6 XWKL1 i installed CF-ROOT that comes with CWM recovery 5 but in every sdcard related option it says "E:Error Mounting /sdcard/" like i can't install even a zip
Any solution?
I tried many flashes/full wipes/flashed from odin/flashed from mobile odin but the same error

Hey XDA,
I finally rooted my GS2 yesterday. I want to install a Custom Rom and before that I went to check CWM Recovery and found out I have version 2. I know that the latest version is v5 and that v2 doesn't have all the options v5 does.
I've searched for an answer to my question and I know I have to download the update, and flash it with Odin in the PDA section. Problem is that all the guides I've seen say: "you can now root your phone with SuperOneClick"
After I flash the CWM v5 update, do I loose root and do I have to root again?
Can you still please explain how I can update it?
Thanks!
What are you asking about .
One CWM recovery that comes via rooted flash v 4 or v 5
Or CWM manager v2-0 a phone app .

I'm already rooted but the CWM app in my phone is v2 and I need v4 or v5. After reading the "NEW HERE" guide, I found out I'm not booting into CWM Recovery but it boots into Stock Android Recovery Mode, even after I choose the option to do it in the app. I went into the CWM app and it says the Kernel is unknown.
What can I do?

Who says and where is this CWM 5 i dont think you are reading the instructions ,
After reading the "NEW HERE" guide, I found out I'm not booting into CWM Recovery even after I choose the option to do it in the app
Then that tells me you do not have a phone with CWM recovery installed .
Why well CWM MANAGER v 2-0 boots fine to CWM Recovery v 5 .
Root + CWM 5 from here flash via ODIN .

I think I got confused.
My problem is: I can't boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery. I just can't. Yes, my phone is rooted, I did it yesterday, I know it's rooted because I can use Titanium.
I followed this guide to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
I chose this insecure kernel from CF's thread: CF-Root-SGS2_CE_XEN_KI2-v4.2-CWM4.zip
In my phone, I have an app named CWM, I click the app and it gives me the option to boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery but when I click it, it takes me to stock android recovery.
Hope this can help you help me!

That thread contains multiple ways to root, but judging by your need to flash a kernel, I presume you followed the guide which tells you to flash a stock kernel afterwards. In doing that, you removed CWM recovery.
To keep CWM recovery, you have to install a kernel which includes it (such as CF-Root). Easiest way to get it back is to just re-flash the CF-Root kernel you already downloaded.
Yes, you're right, I chose the guide that told me to flash a stock kernel afterwards. Thank you for clearing this up!
When I flash this kernel again, will I have to use S2 root to root it again? or will it remain rooted?

As the name implies, CF-Root is already rooted.
Hey there guy the problem i'm facing is i rooted my cell following the steps of galaxys2root . com and after successfully rooting my cell i downloaded rom manager then installed CWM recovery n then when i restarted my cell to recovery got an error" E:falied to verify whole-file signature " n recovery wasnt working then i found a post where it was written i need to flash CF-ROOT file via odin, did that as well n thought finally its gonna work, but unfortunately now i have an exclamation mark on my boot screen n still the same recovery which is not working so kindly if u know anything about this do let me know thanks in advance

If you are referring to the CF-Root post, then you didn't do it right. Not trying to be mean or a jerk... but if you followed the instructions to the letter, then you would have root, and you would have CWM recovery.
1: rom manager dont work on GS2
2: if you flashed cf-root using odin you should have cwm and cwm menu and Su in files when you reboot.
3: when you say recovery not working what do you want to do?
Did you flash the appropriate kernel?
I had the exact same issue when I first rooted my phone using superoneclick. I then did a cf-root and everything worked well so there is something you must be doing wrong...

When i boot into recovery it gives this error "E:falied to verify whole-file signature"
This might seem a stupid question but i'll ask it anyway.
Do you have a Galaxy S2? As your current device sig shows an HTC.

toggle off the verification option.

Dude try to install from the very beginning
Make sure you have all the drivers installed on your PC (install kies for this first)
DOwnloaD ODin
Exit Kies if its running in background
ON your MObile
Factory Reset it from settings
Let it boot
Enable USB debugging from developers options
Download 4.03 official roms from SAMfirmware
Install using ODIN
Search for an appropriate CF root kernel..
install it AFTER you have an updated new rom installed completely
DONOT install CWM from any external sources as its already in CF root kernel
WHen you boot after installing the rom go to SU and update it
then go to CWM and grant permission
YE sirf bari bari details hain....Agar nahin samajh ayi to tell i will say everything specifically
You realize he started the thread 7 days back, and yet he replies today with how to do basic stuff..... its better for him to learn first, believe me its much better for him that way otherwise he is sure to brick
AFter YOu root it using CF root there is no need to install ROM manager and CWM from it....CWM automatically comes with CF root...
After installing rooted kernel just go to recovery mode
1. Switch OFF
2. Hold volume up + menu + power button

Hi I'm rooting my phone by using odin3 1.85. this worked fine but now I'm using superoneclick which is always stopping on step 7
Try flashing a custom kernel that is already rooted like CF-Root kernel through odin. It's the fastest method out there. AFAIK SuperOneClick doesn't work on our device.
Bdw, you should've posted in the Q and A section

1.boot to CWM recovery
Update/flash zip from SD
Toggle signature verification
Then flash your ROM now
Or
2. Flash Siyah kernel first via CWM recovery, it has updated CWM recovery version 6.x
Then flash the Rom

CyanogenMod needs CWM5+.
I have download syiah kernel and tried to install it by CWM which gave me the same msq and odin freezing when installing it
I have new SGS2 with 2.6.35.7-I9000xxjw4 kernel and the phone is already rooted
