whats the best method to root my mopho?? thanks a lot guys

A lot of people have good luck with the AIO method. I personally don't like it though. I prefer the photon-torpedo method. But that's just my preference.
I used AIO One Click Root myself, and it always works, that is true, you cannot go wrong with it as long as you follow the few directions.

aio is the best
question is everyone rooting straight out the box or running the System update then rooting
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Doing a System Motorola Software Update, then Rooting. If you have the device, I personally recommend System Update, Install Proper Drivers To Your PC, and Using the AIO One Click Root Method. It is arguably the easiest.
I can't make it work

getting a photon in less than a month researching root methods still on the fence about unlocking. no 4g around me for 100 miles but still can't seem to bring myself to intentionally screwing something up. think IM going to root and run stock ROM

Joker has a rom that can be used with a locked bootloader.

Beautiful thing about this phone . You can use custom rom and kernal and if 1 day u wanted to go back just flash the sbf with rsd.
AIO all the way

thanks for all ur help people
If you don't have 4G in your area, then you gotta unlock the BL and flash one of Joker's ROM's and Kernel's, makes the phone ridiculously fast. Plus it still serves its main purpose, being a phone. To me, that's full of win. Plus I'm in Diego with no 4G.

Anytime, that is what we are here for.
I am not responsible for the things you do to your phone.
I no longer have this phone. With that being said, I will still keep these links up. If for some reason they don't work, I WILL NOT be updating them. If you need them or wish to redistribute them, go for it and grab them while they are still here.
It was a nice phone while it lasted, but after 6 replacements I moved on to something better.
This DOES NOT unlock your bootloader, but will update to 2.3.5 on the already unlocked phones. Sorry to the folks that are locked with the 2.3.5 update. Hopefully something soon happens for you.
This is stock 2.3.5 WITH the updated kernel. Updated baseband as well, in a separate .zip of course.

MMS on Sprint- Use GoSMS with Sprint MMS settings
Wifi-Fixed!
You could use my modified install-recovery.sh it enables init.d on stock roms. Btw great job

Thanks to samcripp here at XDA and his Fruit Cake Maker, I have a CWM flashable .zip for you. This is stock 2.3.5 WITH the updated kernel. I still haven't figured out how to update the baseband though

Flashing this will revert your recovery to the stock recovery BUT will keep you unlocked
Re-install your custom recovery according to this guide-http://www.teamuscellular.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=1221
Also, I have noticed that after every boot it re-installs the stock recovery. To fix this, use a root file explorer(I use Root Explorer) and go into /system/etc and delete the file "install-recovery.sh"

I'm not saying this to troll, but this is a deal breaker for me, and I never thought for a minute that Sprint's only Tegra powered phone would be crippled over a trivial limitation.
Here is to hopes for motorola to make this feature optional in a future update.

I think if motorola would make it optional as well as add at least more than 2 points of multitouch this would help gaming. There are several games that can use more than 2 touch points.
Joker, with it disabled is there no way to adjust it?
Probably, but youre screen has to be perfectly clean all the time.

Just reflash the full SBF. You can easily find a guide in development section.
No other option..be sure to be locked bootloader whenever flashing stock SBFs
Plz note if you are on Build number before '4.5.1A-1_SUN_198-6' an ota update can also fix your problem,Just hit about phone>system updates>update motorola software.
.....otherwise you have to reflash via rsdlite.
I did the same thing and theres no way around rsd a sbf..i did it and it kept all my stuff except root and a few other custom settings

Which ROM?. I can't get data on spleef at all. Wifi bugs out too.
Just incase, before you guys end up having to do everything all over,
try rebooting into recovery, wiping /cache and dalvik cashe, then fixing Permissions and reboot. May save you some time perhaps?
MoPhoACTV Initiative
When it happened to me I was rooted, unlocked, etc. SBF was the only fix, tried everything else. After SBF I repeated what my kid did and the only fix (even on stock) was to SBF.

I guess this doesnt work when you have custom rom installed
Is there a good stock rom all cleaned off without all the bloatware? I want to flash one to my phone without having to rsd lite it and redo the unlocking etc. I just want to flash a stock rom that he can activate easily. Thanks=)
Or will putting the 2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7-CM rom only unroot and not re-lock and remove the recovery? I assumed it would remove all that or there would be one to just flash with clockwork.

skinny complete v1 seems like what I want. There is a rev0 and rev1, and a rev2 that isn't clickable but it's right below "skinny complete v1" so maybe that's what I click on for rev2? Sorry, prob a dumb question
The links didn't seem to work but the torrent for rev1 is working so I get that one. I says I need to be on 198-7. I was, then I put CM7.2, so I'm on 198-6. I'll need to read about updating to 198-7 before flashing. I'm thinking it is saying I need to flash back to stock then redo everything unlock, clockworkmod, then flash skinnyrev1...
Also, just to make sure, can one activate the phone with a skinny rom since it is like stock? Or is that too customized and the phone won't activate unless it is fully stock?
I ran skinny for a while. You don't need to reactivate.

I got a pm back from Joker and he said to wipe and flash. I did and it worked perfectly. It's great. I love that you can up to 7 lil icons in the bottom that stay fixed there. It's a quick rom and I like the morphing it does. The main thing I wanted to know was since it is a stockish rom can I give my friend the phone and he can activate it or do I need to flash it to a completely stock rom? I think I'm ok, but if you happen to know for sure.
Look at getting the MSL for the phone since it would make manual activation easy..
Either get it from sprint or use the extraction method found in the forums..

I did, it is super smooth and fast. I was going to give my phone to a friend and wanted to make sure he can just activate it without needing to do much. I played around with some themes too. I loved the power widget in CM7.2. ScottieRotten said I can get the MSL and install it so maybe I could have left CM7.2 on it.

This is a very lofty goal. Moto f*cked this thing so much that we would need a miracle to unlock 2.3.5. I'm not saying you shouldn't try, and with no development experience myself I have no room to talk. I just know that others have tried and have been fruitless, or frauds... I do hope you can crack this **** open, however. This is a devoted community and the ones still with a photon know how great a device we have. I plan on using this phone until it won't boot anymore and I hope that we can bring it to its full potential.

Okay ladies and gentleman I know were all looking for a method to unlock bootloader for 2.3.5 on our photons, don't give up. I'm using my photon on family mobile by doing the methods described in a previous thread. I used RSD lite to flash a us cellular sbf file. I followed all instructions and now I'm using my locked photon on 2.3.5. I flashed kddi file and have my GSM radio unlocked with peetr's rom. Its all working smoothly so I say to all my fellow locked photon users ... you can still use your phone on any GSM network. I know we want to flash a ICS or JB rom but for the time being the method works. Don't give up cause it will be a pity if xda lets this awesome phone go.
