First I followed the directions in this thread then installed CleanROM using the directions in this post and now my wi-fi isn't working. I tried doing a factory reset from recovery mode but it didn't work.

You need to flash the kernel again after you flash any new rom. If you are using the stock kernel, you need to flash that. If you were using ziggy's kernel, flash that one.
Kernels can cause issues because when we flash a ROM the kernel is not changed. You must make sure you flash the correct kernel for the ROM after you flash the ROM.
Using ziggy's kernel without also flashing the proper modules into the ROM causes wifi error.
Others have had this issue, do a quick search for kernel and wifi error, you will find more detailed info.

Agreed. All of your answers are in the CleanROM thread. And if not, Scrosler is very responsive to questions over there.
I have the opposite problem. Was on stock using Ziggy's kernel. Flashed another ROM. Ziggy's kernel worked fine. I want to flash back to stock kernel, but no matter which way I do it, I lose WiFi.

Has anyone flashed this kernel?
I downloaded this from the link at the top, and flashed via TWRP recovery (yes I did wipe the caches).
After I rebooted, I checked the Kernel version, and either it didn't work, or the version of this kernel is the same as the original one I had, 1.11.651.3. In fact, I tried this twice, but the results are still the same.
Am I missing something?

Do you have hboot 1.5? Just asking because there are ~2 more steps to take before flashing a kernel... Or I heard you can use Flash Image GUI.

I flashed a AOSP kernel, and my rom didn't load. so I restored a backup and my wifi didn't work and also. So i flashed this kernel and now my backup doesn't work or even any rom that I have downloaded.
using viperrom before.
now nothing is working
questions is:
1. is there a way to flash a kernel, using recovery?
2. what roms work with this kernal?
im getting really sick of this evo3d.

1. Yes, so long as you are NOT HBOOT 1.5
2. This is a stock HTC Sense kernel as clearly outlined in the OP. It is not AOSP.

yeah I have Hboot 1.5
and I know I installed a kernel for AOSP and downloaded an AOSP rom. I should have said that before. but The AOSP rom didnt load, it just hanged on the HTC screen. So i recovered my backup using still on the AOSP kernel, it worked excluding WIFI and some other stuff. so I installed this kernel using GUI app, and restored my back up again. and now it just hangs.
now I can't find a rom for this kernel I downloaded three different roms, all sense. none of them are working.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive this kernel is WAY outdated (note the date of the OP)
I wanted to root for a while, just looking for a rom that looks and feels stock, but has better battery and all..
well I followed
watch?v=-hPSrzRqtX4&feature=player_detailpage (cannot post link as I'm new)
and successfully got to supra rom.. well I don't like the vanilla 5 screen non sense homescreen, though I do like the crt visuals lol...
Anyways, I can't even use my wifi, it just says error, and I NEED wifi, I use it at home non-stop as I have horrible service.
Well I tried to switch to viperRom - I did the reset in bootloader, then full wipe, then cache and all that..
well, once I installed the viperRom .zip, I started my phone and its just the same as before... I can't switch roms! I know this is prolly some nooby thing I don't understand but I've been searching all night and just want to get everything working and need to sleep haha
any help GREATLY APPRECIATED
What do you mean about not being able to switch roms?

unless you're having hardware wifi issues, which the best way to determine would be through running a stock rom and stock kernel, my guess is you have a kernel and rom mismatch issue.
the way htc has their kernels compiled includes two things: kernel and modules.
the modules include a wifi module.
if you flash a kernel and then load a rom, chances are the rom might overwrite either the kernel, the kernel modules, or both.
the best way to avoid this scenario is to flash the rom first and then flash the kernel. the kernel flash will load the kernel itself and its modules. i.e. if you're on a rom you want to stay with now, flash the kernel again and then wifi should work.
hope that helps!
Thank you, o figured this out myself, but you were right lol I was using 2.3.3 roms on 2.3.4

I've tried again and again, following multiple sets of directions, but for some reason, whenever I try to flash faux's OC UV GB Kernel for my AT&T Atrix, the phone won't boot or get past the boot screen. I have no idea why this could be happening and have tried whatever I could think of to fix the problem but no luck so far.
I've tried to flash previous versions as well as the latest version of faux's kernel using Romracer's latest CWM, but it hasn't worked. I keep having to flash back to the stock AT&T kernel to get the phone to boot up. I've tried this on the HomeBase Rom, DARKSIDE Rom and on the Alien Rom. The ROMs work fine with the stock kernel though.
I also tried flashing CM7 and faux's CM7 but that didn't work either.
Anyone think of why this could be happening and have any suggestions that I could try to get this working?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry to tell you this my man but not all atrixeseses are made the same. I confirmed this by using 3 different atrixes (long story).

I just got a SGSII from ATT. When I started it up, it upgraded the firmware to 2.3.6. Not realizing that this firmware JUST came out, I went ahead and rooted my phone via galaxys2root.com.
The phone is now rooted, but WIFI no longer works. I now see (when adding 2.3.6 to the google search) that that rom is currently a bit problematic with root.
Besides waiting until everyone figures out how to root 2.3.6, what are my other options? Can I revert back to an older (2.3.5) rom somehow?
I am leaving on a trip tomorrow and just need to get wifi working in the short term (in other words it is okay if I dont have root right now).
Thanks!
There is a simple way but a bit time consuming
see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
From the above thread, Use Entropy's return to root stock (method 2c) and follow the instructions which will let you return to stock with root.
Once you have done that, get FOTA update to 2.3.6. Wifi will work and you will still be rooted!
This is what I have done after my wifi stopped working..
Try this and let us know!
EDIT: Before starting the process, do a factory reset or wipe data and cache just to clean every mess!

There are multiple rooting methods, I don't know which one you used. It sounds like you used the custom kernel method.
Flash the stock kernel, OR there's a slight possibility that the update for my kernel I'm putting out tonight might fix things. It's untested and I'm busy prepping for the holidays.
Checked the site you posted, and it looks like you rooted by installing the zedomax kernel. You could install just the UCKH7 stock kernel and you would retain root, and you might get your wifi back. You can find the Odin flashable tar here. Or you can wait and see if Entropy512 posts his latest release of his daily driver kernel tonight, and flash that with ClockworkMod Recovery, which you have in the zedomax kernel.
The stock kernel is the original release, not the update, but it should work fine. But once you flash it, you will no longer have ClockworkMod Recovery, and you'll have to change kernels with a different tool.
this is how I fixed it
I reverted back to a stock rom with this this. Just download a file, untarred it and applied it (on a linux box)... yay!

Fairly certain the UCKH7 kernel will have the same wifi issues as custom kernels... The KK6 stock kernel is harder to find but it's floating around.
No luck so far
I'm having the same problem. So I tried the UCKH7 kernel and wifi is still hosed. I'm looking for the KK6 stock kernel to try it but so far I haven't been able to find it.
At least one person has said that the initramfs changes in Daily Driver 12/21 fixed it.
Not surprised UCKH7 stock failed... If it worked then a custom kernel based on it would've worked.
Hi,
I have the same problem, I rooted my i777 samsumg galaxy 2 with the custom kernel method by using the ZedomaxStock kernel. The wifi is not working now...
Is there any way, I can have it rooted and with the wifi working?. Can I just flash the kernel with the 12/12/2011 Entropy's kernel?
Entropy, could you send me a link to the driver...
Thanks a lot

Here is the stock UCKK6 kernel in an Odin flashable tar. Just pulled it last night and will be putting it in the Download Repository. This should get the wifi working, but it does not have CWM recovery.
uckk6_kernel.tar
Or, if you want to use Entropy's daily driver kernel, you must use the latest one dated 12/21/2011.
I just flashed it with the uckk6 kernel and the wifi is working again.
Thanks a lot for the file
I can say that if you use entropys return to stock with rood and do the ota update after that you will still have root and working wifi, its what I did the other night.

I followed those instructions. First 12/8 is not longer available, or at least I couldn't find it anywhere under that thread. To make the long story short, I'm now sitting on Kernel version 2.6.35.7, Baseband I777UCKH7.
I used the 3/7 kernel from Entropy and flashed it with Mobile Odin Lite.
Wifi will still not stay on.
I do have clockwork recovery, (even Rom Manager Premium but I know not to use it) and haven't done anything with it.
Are there radio or modem drivers I need to flash or something?
Don't use ROM manager on this phone. It will break it.
As far as the main issue is concerned. You could always attempt a return to stock. There's forum topics with more detail in the adroid developement section.

The problem is 2.3.6 stock wifi gets broken when rooted. If you just wanted to root I believe you need to flash the 2.3.4 return to stock rooted file system package in the general sticky. If you don't want to stay stock just flash your new rom. I reccomend aokp 4.0.4 from the dev thread. Its bad ass. Either way your wifi will return once you flash the new rom. Flash it using cwm. Just read the return to stock thread all the info about the 2.3.6 wifi break is in there.

I've heard talk that you have to do a factory data wipe/reset in CWM after flashing a rooted kernel that includes CWM. Don't know why but it worked for me. You loose your stuff but you retain root and you get to use your wifi.
When that happened to me I wiped data, system, cache etc., then I flashed a rom from clockwork. That solved it for me.
