There have been massive bombs on the Asus facebook page (North America) about asus discontinuing their products??!?! can anyone confirm this? The closest proof I have is this website saying that its discontinued. If anyone knows, that would be great!!

No offense, but seriously? You can't find any threads on this? Crazy.
It's debunked because in at least one of those threads that you can't find, an ASUS rep has stated unequivocally that the TF201 isn't being discontinued. Certainly, we have to go by his word vs. random speculation based on confusing and unclear retailer out-of-stock verbiage?
Guy at bestbuy here told me they didn't expect anymore stock and they pulled the display materials.
Awhh **** I do not want a discontinued tablet! We won't have any developers!

Why it will be the best performing quadcore tablet! Because of the resolution! Will be lower than the other ones! Everyone will be playing shadowgun at 30fps and you can play it at 60fps. And it will be a limited edition! Plus it has one of the coolest names for a tablet!

Apparently an Asus rep said that it is not discontinued. Honestly said, its hard to find out if its true or not. Then again though, they are selling alot. Im not sure though how many are returning theirs back. But if I had a product that is failing, I wouldn't tell people that its becoming discontinued.

Although the product may not be discontinued, it does feel like ASUS is not committed to this platfom given the information retailers are providing.
Can ASUS please state:
1) Is ASUS continuing to manufacture the TF201?
2) How long does ASUS expect to continue manufacturing the TF201?
3) Is there a reason why some retailers are no longer accepting orders and why other retailers are just not even selling it anymore?
4) Is ASUS committed to the Tegra-3 processor?
5) How long can buyers expect to receive firmware and other software updates to the TF201 platform?
Appreciate your help with putting this to bed.

My hope is that the current model is being discontinued for a newer model with a fixed backplate, and that we early adopters can exchange our models for the newer one. Otherwise...well....I don't know what to say.

Lol....I think the time has finally come..Bootloader does need unlocking. It may be the only thing to bring order n relief to the threads. Great things gonna happen once it is unlocked. Issues will get fixed. Plus we will have Sick roms. This latest update is killing everything.

Well, the results of my thread would still be better than yours!
I cant wait to see some developers take what Asus has made and making it 10000x better.
I have a rooted/romed Ally and Droid X that are10x better than when i first got them. Allow normal people to cook their own rom is a recipe for greatness.

No offense to any devs because you guys are amazing, but you can't honestly believe these devs have a better chance then Asus? Asus wrote the code to every UI element, and has source code for every proprietary driver on the device. I'm not trying to be an ass but what I see alot more on this forum are people saying dumb comments like this. I love the fact devs here can let me overclock/ run aosp but don't you think the people who made the device/soc could do the same thing and much much more? Again this is no way a bash on any dev at all. Personally I think a guy named toastcfh should be hired by HTC or any company because he is great at writing code and I no many others are like that. This rant is because people don't give credit where most of the credit is due which is Asus/Nvidia/Google.

Quite simply, yes. I do believe that crowd sourcing has a much higher chance of fixing the software problems with the Prime than Asus devs do. Go read The Cathedral and the Bazaar to see why.
As for credit where credit is due, without the incredible work of Linus Torvalds Android wouldn't even exist today.
Unlocking the bootloader is the best chance we have of getting the software issues resolved in a timely fashion.

Not to denigrate the fine work that Torvalds has achieved, but Android could well have existed without the Linux kernel, by using BSD/Mach, much like Apple did.

Linux is just a kernel, it's the combined works of the GNU community that made what people refer to as Linux what it is.

Mr. Torvalds work that I was praising was not creating the Linux kernel, but inventing crowd sourcing and making Open Source what it is today. Again, read The Cathedral and the Bazaar.
I would like to start this off by saying that I know we some great devs on this device who, I'm sure, will make some awesome ROMs/Kernels and I appreciate everything that every developers puts into any device whether I use it or not! Thank you all!
With that out of the way, I would like to start a donation thread to get JoelZ9614 a Transformer Prime. I have already PMed him to make sure he was willing to do this and he is completely up to it. I would also like to say that he has not asked for anything from anyone. I am doing this because he has done a lot of work for the community and never asked for anything in return. It's not that he needs the money or the device. I started this because he is another dev that we can add to the TFP and someone who is proven to make quality ROMs. I'll be donating my $15 to him either way. I just thought it would be a nice gesture to show him that the community values devs like him and others enough to help them out a little. I can see why devs are leaving XDA left and right.
These devs do this stuff for FREE and a lot of them never ask for anything in return and there are people who insult them and are completely ungrateful. I don't know how to develop and I know these devices aren't cheap. This is my way of helping them out for helping me keep my device new to me. I have had the same phone since the Evo 3D came out in July and I still get to flash new ROMs every week. I don't get bored with my phone that will be way outdated here very soon! I can't afford to go out and buy phones/tablets every time something new comes out.
EDIT: Guess I should have looked at your join date and post count before going into all that. If you haven't been here before this month and haven't flashed a new ROM or kernel, there is no way you'll understand. It's about appreciation and respect for the devs.

And your point? It clearly says that any threads are done so by your own free will. Nowhere does it say that they cannot be done and I personally have seen them work and seen a few devs get devices. I'm not saying that anyone HAS to do this. It would just be a nice gesture to a great dev.

Hell yea man! Thanks for stopping by this thread. I love your ROMs. You were the first to do a lot. I haven't been genuinely impressed with many ROM devs but you and a couple others have really impressed me! We need a dev over here who can not only compile CM9 but keep up with it.
It seems that everyone who has put CM9 out isnt even maintaining it. Hope we get to see what you can do with this beast!

Man, no love for JoelZ huh? That sucks. Would have loved to see what he could have done with this thing. He made some badass ROMs for the 3D, which doesn't even have an ICS leak yet. Could only imagine what he could get done with something that has official ICS.

I think a lot of people (myself included) are waiting for the supposed GPS/WiFi fix that is supposed to start happening near the end of this month. I personally will wait to see the results of RMAs to see if I will send mine in. Can't send it in if the warranty is voided.
I have used Joel's PrimeXL for the Evo and I still use it to duel boot between Honeycomb and ICS. It would rock if we could get him to develop for the TFP.

Seems like our friendly neighborhood mods have managed to drive ATGAdmin who devs Primalicious off the development forum:

This comes a week or so after Jermaine who deved AOKP left for seemingly similar reasons. This is really sad as we have relatively few roms for this device at present. At this rate we will soon have none.
I am sure that mean many of us would like to know exactly what is going on but unfortunately us little people are left to suffer the consequences of what appears to be somewhat officious, over zealous mods.
An explanation would be wonderful but all I expect is this thread to be deleted and me to be banned

did ATG ever post up his sources? they seem to be cracking down on that aspect of developement. a
sad to hear he has left though. he was a cool guy. I'm just glad at least we have root and overclock already..lol
more will come though. hopefully atg comes back though. what's even sadder is that he never once asked for a donation. doesn't even have a donate button. he did all his developement out of love of doing it and showcasing his work to others to make a device more enjoyable

i don't see him over there. at least not currently. he could be in the process of transferring thread though.
Most likely Google threatened XDA owners.
Mods are just reacting as a result of an executive directive.
Google urban dictionary for the definition of "forum moderator" though.

Be careful! Rules here state that XDA is the only website in existence when it comes to development. Speaking otherwise is blasphemy!!!!!!

What a damn shame. I watched the AOKP debacle as it happened, so I started a thread to let people know ( in no detail) what happened, posted NO links, and my thread was edited by Diamondback and then closed within hours. He said I was speaking on which I did not know LOL. I have screenshots of PMs and ****....I DO know what happened. Anyway, it was prob DB showing his nuts off, and it is a damn shame.
Let's all try to keep things civil and play nice together. As Rex from Toy Story once said so eloquently "I don't like confrontations.."

The thing is, all his ROM was, if I recall correctly was a totally stock ROM deodexed. He made it specifically for folks who had unlocked and didn't want to mess around too much. Therefore, he should not need to post sources, as they are ASUS ROMs and everyone knows where they're from.

Indeed, the most important part is, that the ROM is covered under Apache license and not under GPL like a kernel, so there really is no need to show source, really ridiculous that all.

I really hope that you're right about more roms coming. The development forum is becoming a graveyard - there is barely anything going on there. ATGAdmin, Jermaine and MasterZen88 (who thankfully is still there) were arguably the most interactive, responsive devs in there. Now two are gone, which doesn't leave us with too much going on.
Here's the facts as I see it:
April 22: new forum mods assigned
April 25: AOKP/Jermaine leave citing mod hypocrisy
May 2: Primalicious/ATGAdmin leave citing mod hypocrisy
As others have stated, since both Primalicious and Virtuous are both virtually stock then the same rules should apply to both of these regarding posting source. If I have misinterpreted something I would be happy for a mod to set me straight, but the fact is we hear nothing and this leaves events open to interpretation.
To me, this seems more about egos and less about forum rules. Us users get caught in the middle of this foolishness and we are the ones who suffer the consequences.
I'm bettering my android development (at the rooted app level currently) but still not quite my way towards building roms.
worst case scenario and transformer prime development becomes a deadzone - I can cash in on my sqauretrade warranty via an "accidental" drop in the pool.

Concerning this one special point here (and nothing else):
ROMs that are based on the stock kernel ( stock zImage (+ ramdisk edits)) do not require sources since there are no sources which could be made public.
Hence there is no need for any stock ROM to post sources according to XDA & GPL.

Well while I am not sure what happened over on the other thread - this thread serves no purpose other than to incite angst over something 99.9% of those on XDA will have no idea about.

Actually - with me having been involved in that - you truly DON'T know all that happened. And to have PMs which have nothing to do with you is poor form on whomever sent you them - and would speak to the maturity of the situation.

Actually - again - be careful about what you speak. Any ROM, even if it's based on stock, if it uses a custom kernel - the source for that kernel must be posted.
I am closing this thread. There is no need for it unless we're in high school and this is the parent/teacher conference where we all ***** and whine and moan - but if it is, I didn't get the memo.
