hi,
i am very unhappy about the build in microfon of my transformer 101.
i am so disappointed, that i wonder if i should sell my 101 and buy a 201.
how is the mic quality of the prime? is it better? are there any comparison
videos from users owning both devices yet?
and if it as crapy as the one from the 101, is there any hardwaremod
thats replaces the build in one with a better one yet?
thank you. still hoping that ics makes a difrent about the mic settings,
but with no big hope :/

I can only offer anecdotal evidence, FWIW.
I had 2 Acer A500 tablets, both of which had very poor mics. It was a design problem, I think. I like voice input, so resolved to look at TF Prime to see whether the TF-201 had done a better job.
When I got my Prime Dec 28 that was the first thing I tried, and am happy to say, that at least on my instance, it had decent mic and voice input recognition. That should be the case, as voice input is emphasized on upcoming ICS.
I can't compare voice on TF-201 to that on 101, but it was better than on A500, and adequate for me.
Unfortunately there were other issues for me with Prime.
i know that when skyping or gchatting on my tf201 prime i have not had 1 problem as of yet
may one of you try a selfrecording with the record app
and analyse if its good or poor quality?
the google voice recognition is pointless because its
85% working on my 101 too, but recording myself
or even skyping is so bad in quality that its no fun.
thanks
The Mic is perfect (it got even two I think). I picked up the tablet yesterday and called a friend on skype. He first thought that I was behind my PC (I use a logitech G35 headset there, so a very good one)

So,
HTC Athena = Advantage = X7500/X7501, right?
Assuming so, i read here that the X7501 has lost the front camera, does this mean that there's no video calls on it? Is there video calls in WM6 at all? If i buy a X7500, then upgrade to WM6, will i be able to video call?
And, if a store announces selling a "HTC Advantage", how can i tell if it's a x7500 or x7501? should they know if i call them?
Oh, and can this "phone" be used without a handsfree or is it too much of a brick (I have an Universal today, and it's OK for me without handsfree)
Thanks in advance,
Michael
Yes
X7501 doesn't have the webcam, (the camera on the same side as the screen)
See above.
Yes, it can, but it will be more like a speakerphone and all around you will hear the convo.

I agree but would add - the 7501 is mainly in the US market.
As to using this as a phone held to your head - this unit is much bigger than a Uni (my previous phone was a Uni). My personal epxerience is that I was happy to hold the Uni to my ear. The Advantage is just too big to do so mpore than only occasionally. Use an earpiece.
My experience is that Bluetooth also works better with the Athena than any other phone I've used. Even my Universal. ;-)
I second that Itxda
Using the Athena without a head set is annoying to me. It is much more akward than the Uni. I agree with Itxda that the BT is better with the Athena. I use the LG Style-I for day time, Kenwood KCA-BT100 on the Nav unit in my daily driver and the Jawbone when I feel like it. All work very well with Athena.

I also have the Jawbone (for daily use) and the LG Style-I and Jabra500 as a backup, in case I drain the battery on my Jawbone. Has only happened to me once.

The X7501 doesn't have a VC camera since it is intended for the US market only, where the GSM carriers (or any other for that matter) have yet to implement the IMS needed for VideoCalling.
The closest we have is AT&T Video Share Calling, which is a cheap copy- its onle way calling, and it isn't compatible with the VC cameras on Euro 3G phones, AFAIK/have tested.
Thanks so much for all the replies, very insightful. Gonna make sure i buy a bt handsfree with it, preferrably with number display.
Is there any way possible (with any BT device) to display contact name instead of number?
Any recommendations on BT handsfree with big/long number/text display?

BlueAnt V12 has LCD display but numbers only. Good range, great price.
Jabra BT8010 will display names... with a little work. Good range, expensive.
Note that both have a "vibrate" feature which I find very helpful since the phone doesn't have this feature.
Good luck!
I was wondering how difficult it would be to have the audio from my TouchPad be played through my desktop's 5.1 setup? I'd like to be able to watch a movie/show on my TouchPad in bed, but instead have the sound come through my speakers. Also might be nice if someone could provide a link for a cheap, good quality bluetooth dongle that supports A2DP.
Thanks
am i getting a lack of response because this is trivial to do?... maybe no one else interested in doing this?.... cant be done?
the problem is the by stack HP used when developing the touch. It is extremely limited and as far as I know there's been little to no success with manipulating it
is that a hardware limitation or something that would be possible once we see android on our touchpads?
I use a2dp to my old Belkin Tunestage and it works great...

I want a tablet but not sure how much use it'll get. Will the prime play xvid & avi files? Does it have HDMI out of the box or requires a dongle? Compared with what's about at moment and what's coming out this qtr the prime looks best of them. I have never used apple products but understand ipads are limited to playing iTunes stuff? Or for same money as prime should I get a i5 blu ray playing laptop? Thanks if you can help.

The answer is yes. It is easily the fastest, thinnest, tablet on the market right now. For it's price it is very affordable and ICS makes the tablet experience better.
Keep in mind it's not perfect, there's a force close here - a random reboot there. A vocal minority have had wifi & gps issues. My wifi is fine, my gps appears to work (although I barely use it enough to testify). Battery life is average considering the speed/preformance the tablet has.
The keyboard dock is the selling point over every other tablet out there right now. USB, additional battery life, full sized sd (don't forget the microsd on the tablet), and a decently sized chiclet keyboard that I'm typing this very message on.
HDMI works out of the box, assuming you have the appropriate cables to connect to it. Keep in mind it's mini hdmi. Most video formats are supported (no wmv), the dice player app plays them quite well.
No buyer's remourse here, I'm very proud of to own this tablet. Ipads do require everything to be installed through itunes, and you may have to purchase different copies of apps for many iphone apps you bought if you want them on the ipad. Android gives you the app for all your devices with a singe purchase and you have 15 minutes to request a refund if there are any initial problems. Transfering files is as simple as droping them on a flash drive, and box/dropbox work just as well as icloud. Also 3rd party apps can be installed through checking an option in the settings menu - no need to jailbreak.
YES..next question..lol
t3rm3y - is the prime the best tablet?
TFP fanboi - Hell yah it is the best tablet
Plays anything you throw at it and has HDMI out. Keyboard dock is a must imo, if you want to get its full potential.
if my opinion is taken into consideration...which it always is (im kinda full of myself ATM)
YES it is the best tablet on the market right now
Yes among Android tablets so far.

Sweet Evo!!
I have had so many issues with my Transformer Prime to the point I would recommend someone shopping for an non-iPad tablet to go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It's hardware is solid, it's built free of physical design defects and it's NOT using an over hyped yet immensely buggy Android 4.0 ice cream sandwhich OS.
Just make sure that when you are not sitting right next to the router you bring a beer can/aluminum foil/cut open the Prime so the wifi doesn't become unusable.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a very strong tablet.
Thanks everyone. Thats all good to hear... regarding the Samsung option.. I don't think it has HDMI out so I can't watch my files on the TV??

For me it is, others may disagree!
Go for it,if you don't like it, you can always return it.
I have the Prime and in the UK I'd say, for the money. it is the best tablet you can buy. In the UK we get it with a keyboard dock (I haven't seen the option to buy without unless you get a US version?) for £500. It has mini HDMI built into the tablet itself, can accept 64GB micro SDXC cards in the tablet and the dock has room for standard SD cards up to 64GB as well as a USB port for memory sticks, HDD's, wired contollers etc etc
Even though it plays alot out of the box I purchased Dice player for movies and prefer to use that.
Some THD games come with 3d stereo compatibility and when connected to a 3d tv atomatically switch to 3d.
A wireless PS3 pad works via bluetooth (once paired) for gaming whilst linked to a tv with an app called sixaxis useful when games don't support game pads.
As you can tell, even with one or two niggles, I am very happy with this Prime and use it more than my desktop pc atm. I even purchased Splashtop THD to access my pc (great for music, films and some games) from my tablet anywhere.
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a stick PC in the $70 price range. I do not want a box or puck. My main concerns are WiFi and Bluetooth. Multiple USB ports is a welcome addition. I've read about the MK808b, MK809 II and the Neo G4. I'd like to know if there is any better alternative that provides stable wifi. That is my first priority and I don't mind sacrificing Bluetooth. I definitely want a MicroSD card slot, not TF slot. Also, I don't mind tinkering with the stick, though I'd like it rooted out of the box. I don't necessarily want custom ROM support. And yes, it should be a minimum of 2 cores.
In points:
1) Stick, not box
2) Stable WiFi
3) MicroSD
4) Bluetooth (OPTIONAL)
5) Multiple USB Ports (OPTIONAL, but minimum 1)
6) Rootable, or pre rooted.
7) Ability to connect a USB Hub, if there's only one port.
Looking forward to some great suggestions from the community!
Probox 2
I also came across the Probox 2 Ultimate that seems to be a very good alternative, although a bit more expensive. It also comes with an air mouse. But it is out of stock almost everywhere.
so can anyone suggest a decent air mouse too? I'm really looking forward to buying one of these..
Feedback
Do someone has any feedback in regards Rikomagic MK802IIIS Bluetooth ??
In amazon says is a new 2013 version, FCC compliant.
I would recommend the Minix Neo G4...
I have just ordered the G5 box because I wanted the extra usb ports etc.. And Bluetooth.
This was on the strength of my friend demonstrating his G4 and mk808. The G4 was an awesome machine for such a tiny box.
I couldn't see much difference in performance against my galaxy s3.
Have fun playing with your new toy when you decide which one to go for.

I ordered the Minix Neo X5. It excellent build quality and a ton of ports. and it has a lot of support on the web from Minix and there's forums out there too. You can root and put a custom rom. Out of the box it does now output full HD though. It up converts 720p. The Finless ROM does force full HD, but it shouldn't claim it does full HD. I ended up returning mine when I started thinking how close other better options are coming, t if you need one right now this is the best probably as far as features go.
Pretty much any one will be awesome to play with. I'm waiting for the Onya simply because I like the multiple controller support out of the box.
Curious about the comment about the G5 and the MK808/G4 comparison. What did the G4 do that the MK808 was lacking (obviously Bluetooth)?
But these are awesome little TV companions. YouTube, internet, Netflix, Hulu, emulators, games, etc. Lots of options.
I personally have an MK808 and it runs everything I've thrown at it mostly games / light video. I can't recommend the bluetoothless model with the MK808B out now. Lots of devs working on it.

If I were you I would wait a couple of weeks more for the new Rikomagic Quad-Core stick!!!
Hopefully they got rid of all the WiFi problems in the previous models, and the software upgrades and community support is pretty good!
Check the specs here:

Also, if you use Skype a lot, you might want to consider a stick with a built-in camera, like the Kimdecent B12!

I'm now personally waiting for the Ouya as well after returning my Minix X5. I started thinking I will get an Ouya anyway and then any other Android box will collect dusk. Also, for the simple fact that you can use a controller out of the box to control everything without any troubleshooting or workarounds. and is guaranteed to have more support than ANY other TV box. If you absolutely need an Android stick right now, get a cheap one $50 or less, because you'll surely want the Ouya once it's out for only $99 with a controller, full HD and tons of support.
My minix x5 arrived a couple of days ago and I am delighted with it so far. .. I can appreciate the appeal of the Ouya especially for someone not comfortable with rooting, flashing, fiddling etc. But if the x4 is as good as this but in a stick form then I stand by my original recommendation.

Like you I'm very interested in Ouya but my fear is that you will be locked into only the apps/channels they offer. Of course it will be rooted in time but I'm looking for something that will allow me to watch all of the streaming companies such as Netflix, Hulu, Directv Everywhere, HBOGo, etc. Playing better games with the support they will offer is great but it will be interesting to see how locked down it will be.
Also I'm curious to see how GameStick goes once it releases in a few weeks.

Hello everyone;
I am very new to the forum.
The reason I joined the [xda] is I need help with a few Xperia z Tablet questions?
I have alot of High Quality Music Files 24/96 and i am in the process of buying the Xperia after reading such great feedback on it.I was for a long time planning on buying one of the ASUS Transformers.
I would like to ask if anyone knows if it is possible to add an external DAC/AMP to the Xperia? I tried to get an answer on this both from SONY and other forums but no replies from SONY? and confused replies on forums? something about having to alter the ANDROID colnel?? it is not totally nessercary to add an amp/dac but could improve sound quality both to speakers and H/phones
Finally I have to thank the person who linked the superb PDAIR Leather Xperia Case as I think this will be my choice for the Tablet;
Regards Steve
MOD EDIT : There is no need to use so big letters. We wear our glasses
Bluetooth
I'm Norwegian too but I'l write in english in case som outsiders come looking.
I have never heard of AMP for Android devices, but I know what I am going to buy for it,
http://www.elkjop.no/product/tv-lyd-og-bilde/streaming-og-mediaspiller/SBTREC11E/sandstrom-bluetooth-receiver-sbtrec11e
It has a build in amplifier for 16 and 32 ohm speakers. I got a headset with 32 ohm right now, and with this it will still be waterproof while listening to music
With keyboard I don't know, I don't think there are any specific for this device, I would just choose the best looking one.
colonel? I think you meant kernel.. I dont think you require to change kernel for that. Btw I had hots for transformer too if TF700KL came with 2 gigs I'd have bought it in a heartbeat but it didnt so I bought Z instead.
DAC/AMPs?

Am i the only one who is experiencing problems listing posts/threads?
Hope I can post this one,
many thanks for you reply, much appreciated, likewise from perern in Norway
