Help! I bricked my Photon! - Motorola Photon 4G

YET ANOTHER UPDATE 1/9/2012:
MAJOR SUCCESS VIA THE FOLLOWING LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21015556&postcount=6
THIS IS ACTUALLY A US CELLULAR SBF FLASH BUT I SUCCESSFULLY FLASHED THAT FILE TO MY PHOTONSTEIN AND MANAGED TO GET BOOTED ALL THE WAY INTO THE ANDROID/GOOGLE SETUP WIZARD.
NOW I AM ATTEMPTING TO FLASH A SPRINT 198_7 SBF.
UPDATE 1/9/2012:
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A EVO 3D FROM CRAIGSLIST TO REPLACE MY PHOTON. THEREFORE, I WILL KEEP MY PHOTON AS A LAB MOUSE TO TRY TO GET A HEART BEAT BACK INTO IT. THANKS FOR ALL THE EFFORT TO EVERYONE! I WILL KEEP THIS THREAD UPDATED UNTIL I EITHER GET MY "PHOTONSTEIN" WALKING AGAIN OR BURRIED IN THE BONE YARD WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.
UPDATE! I have had successful communication with the photon through android-sdk. I don't however have the correct img file to flash to the phone. Does anyone have any ideas?
Okay, I know I am somewhat of a newbee at this. But I followed all the steps and wound up with a brick. All I get is "Failed to boot 3" then "Starting RSD mode".
I tried flashing the "1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf" and it fails telling me that it failed to re-enumerate.
Am I screwed or does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks.

You may also want to reinstall the drivers for your photon. I had the same problem and a quick driver reinstall fixed it.

It appears that I have either damaged or deleted the bootloader. Sprint won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Does anyone know how to get the bootloader back to the device?
I am able to connect to it with RSD Lite but I can't flash anything.

Are you still getting "starting RSD mode"?
If you are, I think you're safe. I guess you're one of the many of us who flashed 2.3.5 pudding into their Photons. If that's the case you can follow a small tutorial i did here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21015556&postcount=6
Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

You shouldn't need the bootloader at all actually. I had the same issue with my phone. I had to remove the SIM card and the SD card. Then when you put the battery back in Hold down the Power button and the Volume up button until it says RSD lite mode or something along those lines. Then connect it to your computer and run the RSD lite and select the proper factory ROM that you need to install back on your MOPHO. You will lose root access but your phone should be right back to all of the factory settings. I have done this multiple times to fix error that I got because I am new to Rooting my device and everything as well. I will give you links to where I was able to find some addition support as well.

Has anyone had their photon just show the pulse Motorola logo and the power cycle it self back to the same screen?

Also not to be a douche but this isn't development. This thread should be in general or q&a next time.

I had the boot loop prob pwr+vol down get to stock recovery and wipe the phone worked for me

You can cut the end off of a charger strip the wires red on pos+ black on neg- and plug it in but don't leave it on longer than 20 min at a time cuz battery might over heat
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

I can start the flash process but after a while the following message appears on the screen of the Photon: "sec_exception: b655, eddt, eb".
Then the flas process out and displays the following:
"Failed flashing process. Phone(000): Phone did not re-enumerate after RAM-downloader was sent. (0x703E); phone connected.
Has anyone seen this and recovered from it?
P.S. This is all with or without the SIM card and SD card inserted or removed.

Download RSD Lite and 198_7 SBF from.
http://www.holylivingfuck.com/ACS/SBFs/
You should read this thread on more information about 198_7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202666
Make sure you have proper USB drivers for OS 64 or 32 bit installed, install RSD lite and follow the directions below.
Make sure your battery is greater than 50percent before doing any of this.
1) Fire off RSD lite, select the SBF you need 198_7 .
2) Hold down power and vol up till RSD mode comes up
3) Plug into usb then start the flashing sequence.. ( the whole process will take a while)
4) The process is done when RSD lite says manually power up the phone.. You may need to take the back off and pull the battery to restart it incase it doesnt power up on its own.

I wonder if you downloaded an incomplete sbf. Try flash 198-7sbf one more time or see if you can enter android recovery and wipe. Also. Check the motorola driver is installed correctly.

Accidentally partitioned internal drive in CWM, now bricked..?

Ok, I've seriously messed it up this time.. I think I partitioned the internal drive by accident or whatever it was I pressed while thinking I knew what I was pressing (sunlight on the screen..) , Now at boot it says
"PwrReason: SW_AP_Reset
No OS detected, going to RSD Mode in 5 seconds"
and it gives me the options to choose everything from RSD to BP Tools. I try to choose Android Recovery or Boot Android & it gives Magic Value Mismatch: Reading ODM fuse: 1
I can only pull battery and choose either RSD or Fastboot. I suppose I cannot flash an SBF in RSD because then it's definitely be bricked..
WTF have I done..?!?!
Flashed Romracers's latest CWM. It's now stuck at "Entering Android Recovery Mode"..
I'm thinking of flashing the 1.2.6 sbf and start from there, ain't sure if it will brick it though..

Don't flash a earlier sbf if you were unlocked on 2.3.4... you will surely be bricked then. If you were on 2.3.4, then you could try flashing the gingerbread sbf again. Have you tried fastboot -w?

Flashing the gingerbread .sbf will be fine as long as yer on GINGERBREAD, any earlier .sbf isn't recommended.

Ow, I thought it was only the 1.8.3 that was a problem.
Am downloading the Gingerbread-4.5.91.zip Will I do that through fastboot?
I've erased everything, can do that in fastboot. It just doesn't load into anything else but RSD (I think) & fastboot. "No OS detected" and then the "Available Modes" are listed. Fckng nightmare..
If yer downloading the .sbf, no. You'll extract the .zip and use RSD lite to flash the file inside it. Atleast that's what I do.

I am using the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342 but don't get anywhere. After reboot I'm back to step 1.
Do you know where I can find the gingerbread SBF to flash by RSD?
P.S. Attached the screen it goes to as soon as I hit power, never seen it before..
Tried to flash the Gingerbread SBF through RSD, crashed at first (and made me kiss 400€ goodbye).. Thought I'd try once more...AND IT WORKED!!!!! At least it boots & starts!
Now though, it seems like the bottom part of the screen or perhaps just the 4 buttons are dead. And the drop down bar doesn't go down so that upper part is messed up as well. It seems the screen is borked. It also flashes quickly past the motoblur screen & takes me to the emergency call screen.
Anyone has a clue..?

I have this problem yesterday exactly same as yours! Lol anyways, the problem is that your pds partition got deleted. So what you need to do is to follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131649
Do the moto-fastboot step, its more easier than adb. Hope I helped! Don't forget to thank me buddy lol

[Q] failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode. Need help

I googled everywhere and the same problem comes up for the Axtrix 4g. Says something about use SBF to flash a stock rom. how do you do this for the Photon??? Can someone list the step? thanks
what happened? homebasephoton1.5 rom. I tried to install it but after I reboot I got failed to boot message........
It just means that the phone is unable to boot and is starting the fail-safe RSD mode... basically allowing you to use RSD Lite to flash a new SBF (basically phone image) to the phone to restore it. Are you rooted/unlocked?

Sorry that I didn't reply any sooner. This is what I did, since when the phone is with that problem won't charge the battery nor with charger nor with USB, so, I ran out of juice... I had to get an universal charger to charge the battery and then I flash it with RSD. I've flashed this file 154_5 sbf, once I got in, I flashed the updated one. It worked pretty good.
Let me know, regards.
when I am flashing sbf I have to remove my external sd card otherwise it wont work at all.
I changed to Alien Rom.after changing to alien rom I was facing a lot of FCs.So tried RSD lite with latest SBF.Now I am stuck at "Failed to boot 4 starting RSD mode"
From what I read from forums my phone is soft bricked.
"Failed to boot 4" is when a filesystem is missing a signature
The solution is to flash 154 sbf using RSDlite 5.5 version with a fully charged battery using the usb at the back of your computer.
Once you are successful flashing 154 you can update with latest SBF.
The important points are below.
1. Fully charged battery. (use an external battery charger as Photon does not charge batery in boot mode.
2. Used RSDlite 5.5 version
3. Use USB at back.
4. Use 154 not the latest version of SBF.
5. Make sure the process is not interrupted until the process is completed
Failed to boot 2
Im having the same problem and reflashing 154-5 doesnt work. Instead phone says "SVF:106:1:2
sec_execption: b655, eddc, eb.
It always fails on flash and re-enumeration.

[Q] Foolish mistakes-issues with RSD lite and such

Yes, while I understand there have been many threads in regards to RSD Lite not recognizing phones, hear me out as none of them have been helpful to me. I recently got into the world of rooting and flashing roms, so like a fool yesterday I flashed Eclipse v.1 over 2.3.3. Ever since I have been experience the wifi connectivity issue, so reasonably I tried to use RSD lite to get the 2.3.4 sbf onto my X2. However, using RSD 4.5.3 I kept getting a status message along the lines of "chipset type 53 is not supported." Trying it again also with the 2.3.3 sbf, I tried using RSD v.4.9 and 5.3.1, however neither would recognize my phone. Now I am beginning to encounter other issues with Eclipse (my own fault) and I would greatly appreciate any input. All drivers are up to date for anyone who was going to throw that out again.
Be sure the machine you are running rsd on has plenty of disk space.
I got wierd errors a while back when i was running next to full on the HD RSD makes a temporary file before it flashes.

I have more than enough HD space. When running 4.5.3 it has the chipset error as the device status when paired with any sbf.
Are you running RSD as administrator? Maybe that could be a problem but i dont know.

Just tried both ways in 4.9, neither were successful
It might be quicker if you enumerated, step-by-step, how you last sbf'ed ... that way, the more experienced amongst us can determine where you went wrong.
Oh, and throw in details on your computer's OS, too ... I hear there have been some problems using RSD Lite with Windows 7.

Also have u tried a factory reset from STOCK recovery? Not the bootstrap...STOCK...
Then see if rsd works
Aldo what method are u using to get to rsd protocol mode?
do u hold power and volume up? ((This is how I do it))
U can also find it with power and vol down then scroll down after u see dastboot on top...try both ways
I know I have had a couple timed where it took a few minutes for rsdlite to actually see my phone ...think it was trying to auto install drivers....
U try uninstallin moto drivers and reinstall? Something go wacky?
I use rsdlite 5.4.4 by the way

mofo will NOT unlock...

so i spent the better part of the day trying to get my Photon unlocked so i could run CM9 on it... but didnt happen. I have been running stock rooted for a while, so i thought that i would just follow all the steps in Loki's post, the Compendium.
When I tried to flash derpUnlock.sbf in RSD it would fail with this message... "The "secure_motorola_flash" interface could not be found the super-file is secure and for re-flash, the phone needs a super-file that is not secure and for reflash. (0x7066)"
I tried two different versions if RSD, tried all the USB ports on my computer, tried rebooting the comp, SBF'd with the 198_7 and then back to 198_6 but neither worked... I completely killed my battery three times today trying this, but never got past that error with DerpUnlock.sbf....
any ideas?
That's strange. When I unlocked I used the same method and had success first try. Because it was ny first time unlocking my MoPho I watched qbking's video and used the download links referenced in his thread.

5) Try a different USB port, this is most likely because windows will reinstall all the drivers.
6) Try a different version of RSD Lite.
7) Make sure you put your phone in to USB NONE before plugging it back in. If you do not do this your system will not install all the devices correctly. Alternately, try Motorola Phone Portal mode.
8) Last resort PM me with very specific information about your problem and if applicable screen shots from your computer or phone.

this is whats happening to me. it is NOT unlocking or getting to the point where I can use the fastboot commands...
If you didn't follow the instructions exactly something went wrong. Here is what I suggest:
- Charge your phone all the way
- factory reset
- boot into rsd
- sbf to 154_5
- let the phone update automatically to 198_6
- unlock using derpunlock.sbf after

same here
Also tried unlocking my MoPho to no avail. Getting the same error message. I have just tried a factory reset and got exactly same results after factory reset.
I was on stock ROM, just rooted my phone.
After reset have to take away the battery to do anything to the phone. Is it the same for you?
Well, after studying the topic on unlocking the phone, I tried to continue with next step (boot in fastboot) and I was able to unlock the phone. Looks like this error can be [safely] ignored.
SAME HERE!
I get the same error message...I'm trying to flash back to _5, and update to _6... Hopefully that helps. Hopefully something comes of this cause I wanna push this Tegra2 to the limit!
You don't need the derplunk file, just get you device I'd through the boot menu options then choose rsd mode, from there type fastboot oem unlock, then it warns you about your warranty, then you type it in again with the device is and your done. I've done it to 3 photons and it's the simplest way, just like to xoom

Yeah, I was getting errors, too and said screw it. I turned my Photon off and held power button + Volume down until it prompts you. Press volume down to scroll through til you see fast boot. Then finish the tutorial starting with "fastboot OEM unlock"

That's strange. When I unlocked I used the same method and had success first try. Because it was ny first time unlocking my MoPho I watched qbking's video and used the download links referenced in his thread.
I'm a MoPho-er

I also followed QBKings videos to do mine. When I got to a file that wouldn't download I just Googled and searched this forum until I found an exact match. And I probably still have all the files, so let me know if you need them.

Yea, i kinda gave up on unlocking... few different people sent me the files they used, but I get the same error on all of them.

[Possibly Bricked] Please Assist

I'm concerned my Photon is bricked and wanted to reach out to the community for some help. I recently came across a Photon running 2.3.5 which I know can't be unlocked with pudding. I was searching around for options and I came across this post. I was able to find the two SBF files for electrify on motosunfire.com. I know it says not for the Photon but the post I read before said it worked for them. I first tried the 2.3.4 and it failed re-emnumeration (Spelling?) so I figured I would go ahead and try the other. I used RSD Lite to flash the 2.3.5 and it failed to but I can't remember what it error message was. Now when I try to boot up the phone it hangs on the Motorola Dual Core logo. I can't get it to boot into fastboot or rsd mode. Without either of those or a normal boot I feel like I maybe screwed.... Any assistance would be welcomed!
PS I have tried Googling it and searching on XDA and nothing seems to work. RIght now I'm just letting the phone rest. I tried plugging it in to see if I can get the charging battery to show up and again it hung at the Motorola Dual Core screen. I know the battery should still have a good charge though.

I now have a similar problem. I'm a sprint User and was unlocked and rooted using Cyanogenmod 9 and needed to go back to stock. I followed QBKING77s guide on unbricking and going back to stock for your photon and it bricked my photon to rsd mode.
From there I tried flashing the other sbfs and still was bricked. I then saw that flashing another SBF file may get me out of the bootloop I was in on this thread.

and now I can't get the phone into RSD mode to flash anything. The phone just hangs at the Dual core boot logo.
Any assistance in fixing my phone would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Thanks for the link but I have looked those over. My main issue is I can't get into RSD or fastboot...:crying:
What is the last SBF File that you have used? is it 2.3.5 usc_19? if thats the one, after you have SBF, it will say Failed but its OK. Next, Remove the Battery for some Minutes like 5mins, then put back on, wait some Minutes again, like 10mins, then it will continue, and you will have Electrify System. after that, you have too root, and bootstrap, and install stock rom of photon to get back.
1. RSD the USC_19.0 sbf
2. Root with Photon Torpedo
3. Install bootstrap apk
4. Bootstrap flash the Stock Photon 4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_13.zip
5. RSD the 2.3.5_45.4.13ota_unbrick.sbf

Have you try This: Turn if off, then plug it in an outlet, wait to power it by itseft, then wait if it will continue to boot in System. Maybe the battery
seems not to be recognized or something.
Good news people it booted on its own. It is running Stock USC but it boots!!!
