[Q] From ICS Passion to miui - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone provide installation steps from ICS Passion back to miui (Gingerbread)
I'm currently Galnet miui and plan to flash ICS passion temporarily.
Thanks.

would be the same steps the OP provides
-Wipe Dalvik and Cache Partition
-Wipe Data/Factory Reset
-Format System
-Flash MIUI
-Fix Permissions
-Reboot and let sit a few minutes
-Re-Apply theme if needed
-Reboot again
-Enjoy
super simple, if you're really worried just make a nand backup and restore it once you wanna go back.

Yuuuup! Just flash that bad boy!

Look for a ROM from nickmcminn60. He gives clear instructions on how to flash a MIUI ROM.

[Q] Flashing precautions

I just came from owning a vibrant (original galaxy s) and i've read multiple rom development threads but was surprised to see that there weren't any precautions listed when flashing a rom. i remember when we flashed roms on the vibrant, we had to:
- flash back to stock between roms
- wait at least 10 minutes after the roms were flashed for the dalvik cache to be rebuilt
- something else im forgetting at the moment (sorry it's almost 4 in the morning here).
do we not have to do this anymore with the sgs 2? is it ok to flash a gingerbread rom over cm7 and start using the phone right away after flashing? Thanks.
I follow my own procedure when I flash new ROMs, most are unnecessary, but I like keeping my phone clean of old stuff.
*IN CUSTOM ROM*
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe Cache
3. Wipe Dalvik
4. Flash Stock ROM
*STOCK ROM*
5. Install ROM manager from Market
6. Flash CWM Recovery
7. Place .zip of a Custom Rom in internal SD memory
8. Reboot to Recovery
*PROCEDURE*
9. Wipe Data
10. Wipe Cache
11. Wipe Dalvik
12. For CM7.1, flash ROM TWICE, since it uses a new CWM Recovery. For a normal ROM, I install them twice too, just to be sure.

[Q] Problem with the new RR ICS 2.7 ROM

Hi,
I'm currently using the RR ICS v2.6 on my phone with a Iron Man lockscreen MOD.
After I flashed the new RR ICS v2.7 ROM, my phone can't boot up. It just stays at the screen with the Sieya kernal logo.
I flashed the ROM two time. First time I didn't wipe data/ factory reset. Second time I followed exactly what the instruction said. But both of them failed.
I had to flash back to a Stock ROM in order for my phone to boot up.
Anyone can help? I can't reply directly to the thread in the android development because I'm a new user.
Think this should be in Q&A section, however did your do full wipe. also try formatting system ect from mounts and storages in recovery. I'm no expert just helping

hi, thanks for your reply, but i want to make sure what the exact issue it is before i flash it again. I was so scared when my phone cant boot up as i thought that i bricked my phone.
If you don't mind, can you help me link this thread to the RR thread in the Galaxy s II android development?
Still no one can help?
It seems to me that most of the people that successfully flashed v2.7 are from v2.6.1. So, I'm thinking of updating my v2.6 to v2.6.1 then flash the v2.7. However, I can't find any download link for v2.6.1.
NVM, I found the download link for 2.6.1
It is actually in the RR thread but I just didn't recognize the links under "google drive" or "dropbox" or others are download links before.
yah I updated my sgs2 to rr 2.7 rom now.
Here's what I did:
-I first have v2.6 installed on my phone
-go into recovery mode
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Fix Permissions
-Wipe Cache Partition
-NOTE: I didn't Wipe data / factory reset
-flash v2.6.1 from SD card
-go back to recovery mode after aroma installation
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Fix Permissions
-Wipe Cache Partition
-reboot and I now have v2.6.1 installed
-go into recovery mode
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Fix Permissions
-Wipe Cache Partition
-NOTE: I didn't Wipe data / factory reset
-flash v2.7 from SD card
-go back to recovery mode after aroma installation
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Fix Permissions
-Wipe Cache Partition
-reboot and I now have v2.7 installed
I'm now thinking about changing my kernel from siyah to dorimanx. Can anyone give me some pros and cons about these two kernels?

If you still want to have all your apps and don't mind if it doesn't work as it's supposed to, you could try a dirty install and only wipe cache and dalvik, not a complete factory reset. This usually works if you stay on the same android version (or upgrade) but does not if you go from blur to cm or vice versa.
But again, a clean install is always better (but we are lazy, aren't we) and there is no guarantee that everything will work
Edit: oh Jesus Nottach is blur, yeah then forget about the dirty install xD...
