im using connectify with my pc which has direct lan connection with internet but when i try to connect my razr to the hotspot made by conncetify it cannot connect even it sees it with or without pass encryption this happened before with my galaxy note. any solutions?
Android does not support Adhoc connections as of now. If you want to connect your RAZR to the wifi, make sure connectify is sharing the internet using the Wifi Access Point mode (WPA2). That should work fine. I use it everyday with my RAZR.
it seems im out of luck the connectify option i only see is adhoc connection
open and encrypted wep
The problem is not in ad-hoc mode, but in WPA2 encryption combined with it. I was able to connect to ad-hoc network without encryption. Sadly not in Windows but in Ubuntu (some internet sharing issues), which is not my primary OS.
I solved it with usb wifi adapter with soft-ap support, because my primary wifi card doesnt support it.

so you are saying that i need to find a new wifi adapter to be able to use adhoc mode?
how about using vmware then ubuntu inside you think it should solve my problem connecting to adhoc mode insude ubuntu under vmware?
Try create ad-hoc network without encryption first and connect to it. But be aware about high risk of encryption absence and correct your activities acording to it.
I wont network connection without encryption so I bought that usb wifi adapter with soft-ap support to emulate normal AP (not ad-hoc) mode.
You can try yours solution with WMvare if you are able to share wifi card to host system. I used VirtualBox and wasnt successful in that.

dear what is that product you bought i might buy that
Well, it was quick buy in nearest shop and I don't think it is available in your region - Tenda W322U.
You should ask for soft-AP support primarily, particular product is secondary concern.
thanks dear its really helpful
RAZR Wifi using connectify PRO
It is easy to use Wifi with connectify Pro. but be sure to share the internet using the Wifi Access Point mode (WPA2-PAS). That should work fine. I use it yesterday and made me happy.

Hi all
I want to know how tk connect ad-hoc wireleas its really needed??
Thanks.

It really depends on what you want to connect to with the AD-HOC wireless connection the HD2 uses as some electronic devices do not support AD-HOC like most Sony products for example. But there is a work around. So please post back here with what you are trying to connect to.
I have internet sharing to other so i want to connect the shared internet but the shared wireless does not shown in wireless.

Sorry for the late reply but I think you are looking for WiFi Router for Windows Mobile. There is also a paid WiFi Router app in the Market call WMRouter if I remember correctly. But I use to use the free one all the time and loved it.
I dont think u get my question.
I want to connect the ad-hoc wireless ,when u share internet from ur pc the type of connection is ad-hoc some device cant read this wireless or find it,so the point is by which way i can connect from my hd2 to those type of wireless?
Thank u very much.

Ok I think I might understand you question now, and yes I know what AD-HOC is. To put it simply it is a computer to computer connection. Anyway if you are talking about using the AD-HOC connection to put your HD2 online via your computers internet connection then you will have to use a WiFi router and access your home internet connection via Wifi. I don't think you can connect your HD2 any other way to non cellular network, at least that I know of.
Ok
so its microsoft .
thank u very much .
Hi there,
I have encountered some strange problem with my HD2.
I cannot make ad-hoc connections with most laptops, except for maybe one.
This means, I cannot connect to an ad-hoc connection set up on a laptop, nor can I turn my HD2 into a wi-fi router with most computers.
The connection is detected but after trying to connect, it just cycles and eventually windows (tried xp, vista and 7) notices that it cannot connect.
I have read that it may be the case of:
1. IP mapping (but why should this happen if all these laptops did connect with my previous i8000?)
2. WLAN Channels (Whereas I found no way to access/change them on wm6.5)
It's a new HD2 so it's got the pre-installed sharing feature. I also used the wmwifi router trial and downoladed the htc installable router app (tom codon's).
I've searched the forums for 3h allready and found no conclusion - will be really greatful for some hints.
Thanks.
Hello Everyone! I want to use my Laptop's internet connection via usb cable using my Dell Streak. So I searched for an app that will enable me to do that. While I'm searching and reading all the stuffs that I think that will be the answer to my question, I stumbled upon the word Tether/Tethering.
In which will enable your computer/Laptop to use your Mobile Device's Internet plan or 3g connection. However, what I really wanted was the reverse of this process. I want to use my Laptop's Internet connection. From my laptop connection through USB? or Bluetooth, then to my Dell Streak. So I can surf the Internet using my Mobile device.
I searched the forums already and learned that the latest post for this topic was last 2008. I hope there is already a solution to do this.
Everyone, If you know any apps that I can use please do tell me. Thank you very much!
there aren't any that I know of plus I think it would need to be computer prog not android
There are guides to do it in linux but you need to do it manually I think.
http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
You'll be needing to set up a local network via the wireless connection on your PC.
If you are already on the internet via wifi on the PC, why not use the wifi on the streak?
If you are hooked up via Ethernet/other cable, then broadcasting the connection on the PC's wifi is fairly simple.
Hope this helps.

he wants to do it via usb or bluetooth..
I was able to do this with Linux, but it was a pain and some programs couldn't access the internet. I think only the browser worked.
Would be difficult with usb.It might be easier if you use bluetooth or wifi.
Just go ahead and setup your ad-hoc network or soft-ap on your pc,and make sure you have inter access sharing service or similar software running.
I would recommend you use a wifi soft-ap,it's super easy to setup on winxp/2k/2k3.

there is a option on HTC that when you connect your phone to PC, it asks you one more point "connect to PC's internet". but i's interesting, if is that possible on ACE.
Sorry for my bad English (((
Check USB tether on market ;-)

Some networks don't let you use your laptop etc..to connect to the internet via your phone unless you pay extra.
My ace is locked to three there is a option in setting to Tether via usb or wifi but no mater winch setting i use it will not work.
However on my old HTC HD touch generic i can connect my usb cable to my laptop and go on-line with the same sim. Iam going to try and branded my ace once i know how.

Not share you Phone internet, but PC internet to Phone.
CHEERS!
What about sharing the connection by WiFi? Through Ad-Hoc?
I know that there's an option in Linux, but I'm not so sure for Windows.
Rufus87
Try to download Connectify and turn your laptop into access point (if your wifi card supports it). Anyway, buying wifi access point is the best solution.
adeklipse
In Windows he can set up ad hoc network, but Ace doesn't support it. I tried to look for working edited wpa_supplicant file, but i didn't find it.
Devs any hope for this yet?

Virtual WiFi adapter for Windows 7
You could also change your WiFi adapter into a virtual WiFi Miniport and share the internet connection if you have windows 7.. It acts as a Wireless access point and also please note that your hardware should support in order to create a virtual WiFi.. Just follow these instructions..
http://mintywhite.com/windows-7/set-windows-7-wifi-hotspot-quick-tip/
+1 mr., been +1ing twice tonight.. I also had this issue, decided to stop my ace's data plan and my brother had a decent connection on the desktop. Sadly it was our all time fav Win XP and we're too lazy to add a WIFI/WLAN card to it.
Maybe having a Terminal Emulator (since we can't do any adb commands when tethering) to establish an interface/eth0, activating the USB tether (not the wireless) and configuring a connection on the Windows would help? I've tried that, but met no luck on Windows part.
I used reverse usb tethering on galaxy mini before purchase ace. Its simple script to give usb0 ip address and some setting on gateway, dns.
Hi all,
I just got my brand new Samsung Galaxy SIII
All is well except for the fact that the phone is failing to even detect the adhoc wifi that I've setup. I get my home's internet using a mobile cdma usb modem and I've setup an adhoc wifi connection thru internet sharing option in windows 7.
Here's a twist though: When using my Ipod Touch- I noticed that the Ipod manages to detect the same adhoc wifi network I've setup- the Ipod also manages to connect to the network but fails to provide any internet. (from windows 7)
Oddly enough- the only way I can get adhoc wifi to work is when I use it on my Ipod from Linux Ubuntu. I cannot connect to adhoc wifis from either windows 7 or linux on my SGS3.
Is there any way I could get my SGS3 to detect and connect to the adhoc wifi from either windows 7 or Ubuntu with the mobile internet that I use at home??
Bump. Anyone??
Android's Wifi manager by default does not detect or use adhoc networks.
There exist several patches (requires root) but I'm not sure if they have been confirmed to work/ported to the S3 yet.
CM9 should include adhoc support.
I strongly recommend using the Windows7 application 'Connectify' which creates a full-fledged ap-mode network and not an adhoc while still allowing you to keep connected to any current Wifi network.
I guess similar tools might exist for OsX and Ubuntu Linux but I've only used them in forward tether and not reverse tether so far.
By the way, this is a forum not a support center. So it might take some time to get a reply.
Bumping after 3 hours is just rude seeing that we all try to work together for free

This issue is ICS Related, I had the Galaxy nexus for 6 months, i tried every solution that is out there with no luck, hopefully CM will include this fix or else use "Connectify" which personally I don't recommend.

If you haven't tried it already- then I suggest you try disabling your antivirus when you share the network. That's what I did in the end to finally make it work.
i recently bought a CP900 printer which supports wifi printing in adhoc mode, but the problem is, my xperia z ultra cannot detect the adhoc networks, ive tried samsung phones, iphones, all can detect this network but mine.
i have tried to flash AOKP, and CM11 roms which still does not detect adhoc networks
is there a solution to this problem?
update, i have also tried some 3rd party wifi detecting software in the market, the network shows up, but when i try to connect it says adhoc not supported by android platform.

Have you tried using the WiFi Direct feature in stock ROM? From what I have read only one of the devices needs it to establish a connection.

Thanks for your quick reply, i will be using this direct outside of an wifi environment, your suggestion is great as i could possibly have a person open up their wifi teathering and use that as a bridge with both my printer and my cellphone connected to it, as my cellphone can work in this mode. although its not the perfect solution, its better than not usable one. thanks for enlightening suggestion.

the wifi direct does not work with the printer. the infrastructure mode, is just like any other printer when you connect to your home wifi, you can use the printer. my objective is to connect wireless on the location where a direct connection would be desirable.

I have one of these http://www.google.com/shopping/prod...a=X&ei=sbrXU_HYMoidyATcloHwDg&ved=0CDQQ8wIwBg at home, and wonder if it could be used to connect two devices. If so it would allow me to use my chromecast at hotels. Needing a second gadget is a crappy solution but it may work.
