Honeycomb update questions - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi guys, I'm a noob, just upgraded my Flyer to Honeycomb.
Just wondering, because I see the original touch buttons don't work any more, is there anyway to set the touch buttons again? I kinda like them
Thanks!

Sorry, but I have to LOL.
When you did the official OTA update, it told you that before you installed it.
No, there is no way (at least I've not heard of any) to get the capacitive buttons back.

Yes , the LeeDroid Custom HC ROM has the option to turn them back on, but why would you want to, they are redundant in HC.

Because the honeycomb bar takes up precious space. I prefer the hardware buttons myself. Naturally, I also needed something to hide that silly honeycomb bar as it won't hide itself...

Honey Bar on the Android Market ($1 US) will let you hide or unhide the bottom notification bar by tapping the bottom middle of the screen, for when you want the full screen real estate. Honey Bar requires root.
Alternately, install the LeeDroid custom ROM as previously suggested (also require root and S-Off). LeeDroid has the option to turn the capacitive buttons back on. But then I think you still need to install Honey Bar to hide the notification bar on the screen.

someone mentioned elsewhere that you could use the Leedroid kernel to re-enable the buttons, is this an option that doesn't require a custom rom?
BTW hardware buttons are always better than soft buttons. Personally i have a hard time seeing the point in disabling hardware features just to load a half baked OS version.

Does HC have sense? I haven't seen any screen shots of an updated HC view. Kinda hesitant to upgrade from GB

They are redundant. I only use them if watching movies or playing games and I want the extra screen space. Then I use honeybar, which for me behaves well with the apps I use. So personally, I like having both

Yes! The Honeycomb update includes HTC sense 1.1 for tablets.

So hopefully they update sense so you can use whatever buttons, real estate aspect ratio you choose in Honeycomb.

All this is discussed at length in the forum. Please do some reading, its not as simple as you think.

Hidebar is free and may work for you to hide the notification bar. We view owners unfortunately dont get to re enable our HW buttons yet.
Once I contact the dev of hidebar, i'll see if I can post up the apk.

Honeycomb question
Hey guys! I'm a noob. I have a HTC FLYER and on Sunday I updated my tablet to Android 3.2. Now all I get is a white screen. I tried powering down. I've tried to restore settings and I tried to reboot. All I get is a little vibration and the white screen. Please help. I love my Flyer and I miss it. It has everything on it.

S-On or S-OFF? And what exact model of flyer is it?

Globatron, I followed the steps that you layed out for me. I went to the"new to flyer read tius first" thread. I downloaded the drivers for the flyer that I have. I downloaded the site you gave me in my answer. I loaded the sites into the download manager and then attached it to my flyer a couple of times. I kept getting an error message. I would say that I did this like 4X's. Is there a thread you can send me to that could help me walk through it? Like I said I am a noob.I read up on some of the other recovery tools, but for some reason I keep getting stuck.

We are here to help you, but you need to be more specific. I cannot tell what you have done and where you are stuck.

BlessedTeacuo, that is RUU safe mode.
Send me a PM after 7PM GMT and I'll sort you out one way or another.

[Q] I want to root My At&t 2.2.2 Aria Help Needed!!!!

Hey I have tried everything Form unrevoked 3 also to revolutionary I really am fed up of this i want 2 install custom roms So please Can Anyone Help me with a detailed anwser or a link to a forum where by which i can root my phone software
This is probably what you're looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237
Keep in mind that Revolutionary is a newer version of a program that was called AlphaRev X. So where this guide references AlphaRev X, just pretend it says Revolutionary.
Never mind
Just wondering were you able to obtain root???
Root
I was able to obtain root by using alpharev it installs Clockword Mod recovery after getting s-off... if this thread gets enough comments i will make a tutorial

Link to download unrEVOked modified usb driver not valid
The link provided in the first step only leads to "The requested URL /recovery/android-usb-driver.zip was not found on this server."
I've been trying to ROOT my HTC Aria (AT&T) for quite some time now. My software is 2.2.2.
All I need is a new link to download the unrEVOked modified usb driver and I'm pretty sure I can move forward with this.
Thanks for all your help thus far!
I don't believe you need the "unrEVOked modified USB driver" for Revolutionary. If for some reason you do need it (I haven't rooted in a long time so I don't remember for sure), you should be able to download them from here: http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install

Yeah, you don't need them.

I took your advice; I ran unrEVOked as an administrator without having to download the usb drivers. Only problem is that unrEVOked keeps running into an "internal error" . What should I do now?
Thank you for your patience with me!

You cannot use unrEVOked to root the Aria running 2.2.2. You have to use revolutionary: http://revolutionary.io/. Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237 (same link as post #2).
Also, make sure you install the fastboot drivers first. (These are not the same thing as the "unrEVOked modified USB driver" mentioned before, which you don't need.) The ones you will need are here: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe . Just install this, then run Revolutionary, and it should go pretty smoothly.
The link let me download the executable but once I double clicked on it, my computer just sat there. HELP! Thank you!

Do you have HTC Sync installed?
I had it installed originally, but I uninstalled it. I remember reading on some tutorial that I need the drivers, so I guess it's partially there. Is that what's holding me back?
---------- Post added at 10:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 PM ----------
Jesus rollerblading Christ! I think it worked! Revolutionary disappeared after reading "success". My phone was left on the HBoot screen, though. I rebooted immediately to see if it worked. I;m not quite sure how to test it. If my phone has been rooted, how do I move all of my apps to my SD card so that the "low space" icon disappears?

If you have the HTC Sync drivers, then you should be good to go.
The way to verify if the process was successful is:
1) Turn the phone completely off.
2) Hold the 'volume down' button, then press the power button, then after a second or two, release the 'volume down' button.
3) Near the top of the screen, there is a line that reads "LIBERTY PVT SHIP". If it says "S-OFF" on that line, then Revolutionary was successful. If it says "S-ON" then you were NOT successful and you should try it again.
4) To return the phone to normal, press power button when "FASTBOOT" is selected. Then press 'volume down' once to select 'REBOOT' and press power button.
FANTASTIC! It worked. Now, what exactly am I allowed to do differently since my phone is rooted? And hoe would I transfer all of my apps to my SD card?

Technically you don't have root yet. If you want to keep your current ROM and just root it, then follow the directions in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 . Scroll down to where it says "To root:" and follow those instructions. I suggest making a backup before you do anything else, for which there are also directions listed on that post.
Apps2SD is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790786 . But I think you have to install a custom ROM to use it. I don't really know; I suppose you should look through that thread for details on that.
Okay, what if I wanted to install a custom ROM? Do you have any suggestions? I feel like a blind man shopping for colored shirts. Which will run the smoothest? Are there different ROMs that specialize in different things? Oh, and most importantly, how?

If you want to flash a custom rom, then flash it . CyanogenMod 7 (7.x) seems to be the fastest/smoothest rom for the Aria. There are different roms; see here: http://theunlockr.com/category/roms-2/android-roms-2/htc-aria-roms/ (you'll just notice a different in speed and visuals for the most part). All you need to do to flash a rom is boot into ClockworkMod recovery, make a nandroid backup (recommended), wipe data (depends on what rom but is still recommended), then flash it ('install zip from sd'). For a better guide, see here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Aria:_Full_Update_Guide and scroll down to "Method via Recovery". It's basically the same for all roms.

[Q] How to install new ROM when Recovery does nothing?

I am trying to install Fresh ROM 4.2 on my Evo 3D.
The instructions at geekfor.me (sorry, can't post direct link since I'm too new--search Google for fresh rom 4.2) have a terse warning about people like me with HBOOT 1.5. (Yes, I used the HTC unlocker.) I am supposed to download boot.img first, install it with Flash Image GUI, then install the ROM via recovery mode.
OK, so I got the boot.img installed OK, but when I go back into the bootloader, highlight RECOVERY, then press the power button, all that happens is I boot right back into the main OS.
I am supposed to use RECOVERY to install new ROMs, right?
I'm at a loss for what to do with the next step. I've tried searching forums, but each search comes up with a new, novel theory, unfortunately, and so far none seem to apply to my case.

Thank you. That could be true.
What recovery do you recommend for Evo 3D?
Seems like TWRP is popular, but it appears their recovery-twrp-shooter-1.1.1.img is broken as all I get is (remote: image error! (BootMagic check fail)) when installing it over fastboot.
CORRECTION: *I* had a bad copy of their .img file.

[Q] Freezes on HTC logo - could use some help

So I was trying to update my old energy ROM to ICS and I'm kind of hosed. Got instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759
Basically:
- Root your device
- Install a custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM
For the record, these steps are out of order. Steps 4 and 3 are switched and I didn't notice till it was to late. What I did next was do the factory reset and then try to re-install the ROM. Everything seemed to go fine until it was time for a reboot. Then it froze on the HTC logo.
Could use some ideas as to what my next move should be. Since it was a previous version of Energy ROM + Faux kernel, phone is definitely rooted, etc. Perhaps I should start over with a stock Gingerbread ROM?

Apparently I am also supposed to flash the kernel as per this thread which I've finally found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645641
In order to find it, I had to search for it using Google as this forum software is so haphazard. Also not mentioned in the instructions. Will try this next if I can get at it through just the custom recovery.
Still wrong. Coming from GB and going to ICS you need to flash the ICS RUU in bootloader. I don't know how many times its been mentioned or how many other threads have been started because of this issue.

If you are rooted via HTCDev S-On Hboot 1.490018 and up you need to Run a command prompt and flash the boot.IMG that comes with the ROM (if not included extract the ROM and search for its in the .Zip file then move that file into a folder in the Root lf ur C Drive put your phone into fastboot mode (remove battery then put it back then press lock/on button and the volume up button at the same time) then connect it to your PC and run command prompt press on start and search for cmd then run it and type the following :
Cd c:\android (or whatever you named the folder)
After that type:
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
After its done unplug your phone from ur PC reboot it and it should work perfectly (it may stay at the HTC Logo for 10-20 minutes)

I don't want to put down energy rom, but it hasn't been updated since the original leak, and the instructions were never clarified - he simply never explained the PROPER way to switch from gingerbread to ICS. ARHD gives a better explanation, but I think post #2 in the everything ICS thread gives the best and links to everything you should need..
You have to be careful anytime you are switching to a totally new OS. All the devices I know, switching from 2.1 to 2.2, or 2.2 to 2.3.. or to 4.0+.. it is USUALLY not just a "flash over the old OS".. just something to keep in mind for any of your other or future devices..

Well as far as I know, it ain't like he is getting paid much so it would seem to be a miracle if any of this stuff gets updated. ;-) If I don't have this figured out by Tuesday, I'll use it as an excuse to get a new phone. This one has a crack or two in the screen anyways.
Still, even so I would MUCH rather get this one working again. 'specially since I'm between software gigs & cash is tight. If Energy ROM hasn't been updated and there's a better and/or more complete set of instructions maybe I should be looking at something else. Will continue hunting through these forums for info but can use all the help I can get since this forum software ain't exactly friendly. Probably best to see if I can get it back to stock on ICS and then work forward from there. Having said that, I have an RUU that I am working with, its: PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip
Tried just flashing it but apparently there's more to it than that.
Latest problem is that I can't get it re-locked without enabling USB debugging. Can't do this since I don't have a working OS. Can it be done from CLI or recovery?
Uh.... hmmm... mysterious. Seems to have fixed itself. Will try a restart and see what happens.

I was saying that there are some other options, other roms, that have better instructions and have been updated fairly well.. that is all.
The thread I was talking about by glacierguy is here - it links to tons of resources and should answer most questions you may come up with. For example it has "Relock phone (fastboot oem lock)" you can issue fastboot commands while your phone is booted into the bootloader - so this has nothing to do with usb debugging..
There is tons of information here, I know it isn't absolutely organized, but there are a lot of guys here who tried to make the information as easy to find as possible..
Did u try to restart it again it usually takes a couple of times but anyway should either return to stock or use the RUU for the ICS ROM

If you're.gonna flash that last file you mentioned, you need to rename it to PH85IMG, since its a stock ruu and not just a flashable Rom.

Woohoo! I've succeeded in getting the aforementioned RUU installed. Should be much less of a problem from here forward.

Of course you are responsible. Heaven forbid anyone should take responsibility for their own actions or anything crazy like that.
Since English may not be your first language, I'll be clear. I'm just kidding.

Now that I have the RUU, could use some examples of projects that are more up-to-date so that I can move forward.

If you want cutting edge(these both have features no other rom has added yet, and are very current update wise) and like the senseui, try remix's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673609 or if you want with less sense and more of an aosp-ish feel go for his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623184
ARHD is what is being used for the base for many roms because it is solid and bugless, energy has more features that he had included in his gingerbread rom.. I've heard good things about capromce, but I have no idea what features he has added that are or aren't included in the others..
Heheheh and its not my first language thats why you might see a lot of grammar and/or writen mistakes, just for the futur before you flash any new ROM Back-Up you current or the original ROM just in case something like this happen so you can restsore it without worrying and hope i helped

[Q] Rooting gen 1 Kindle Fire

I'm trying to root my Fire and have the ADB drivers working and ran the .bat in the KFU folder and the ADB status is online. Before I go any further I am looking for steps on what to do, especially in regards to installing a ROM (whichever the most popular is). I've been using two guides(it wouldn't let me link them) to get this done, but one talks about TWRP and I just don't know which to follow. If anyone willing to help has Steam or some easy way of communication that would be ideal.

I've seen that but it came out very shortly after the Fire was released and doesn't use KFU. I was looking for a more recent one.
edit: I followed one and pressed 2, Install Permanent Root with Superuser, and the Fire reset a few times, in the end saying the root was successful. Now I'm trying to get Voodoo to be able to unroot quickly. Wasn't the root supposed to make the Google Apps available? Did I miss a step? My Fire looks like nothing changed.

I'm trying to put gedeROM(Unless CM10 is better) on it but the boot menu doesn't come up. On boot it says "press power button for boot menu" and I press it but nothing comes up.

I'm following a guide from Reddit that has worked for anyone who's used it and it says you can drag and drop the zip file for gedeROM into the Fire's drive and then do a quick and easy install. How can I do that with CM10? There are so many links on the front page of the post. Do I download "20121022-1438-Linaro"?
edit: also, do I lose all my stuff going from stock to a rom? I installed the latest TWRP recovery and such.
Looking in my Fire's folder, the TWRP folder is empty. Is it supposed to be?

In KFU, install the recovery or TWRP as they call it, download a Jelly bean rom and Gapps from here on XDA, (both rom and gapps will be in a zip format) place both rom and gapps on ur KF and then boot to recovery.
Wipe:
-System
-Factory reset
-Cache
-Dalvik cache
Install:
-Rom
-Gapps
and then just for precautionary measures, its best to wipe only Cache and Dalvik again. then reboot. Be patient as the first boot up will take a while. (that is normal)
Heres a jelly bean rom you can try for the KF http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765288

yes you would start fresh with each new rom install. unless you backed up your apps with app2zip or Titanium Backup.
also the TWRP folder is fine. unless you backed up the whole rom from the TWRP GUI, then you would see some files. which is normal though.
I have it working and running but I don't have the Google Play store.
