I came home from work this morning and my wife said my daughter was reading a book and she turned the page and it just locked up. Now when I boot it up it will go to the lock screen, but when I try to slide it to the right it will not do anything, even the clock is at the top left like it should be. Usually you can see the wallpaper on the lockscreen, but now it is just a black screen............
The only thing I can do on the lock screen is just power it off, even then, I have to hold the power button down a couple of times before it will boot up again then it just goes through the normal boot up until it gets to the lock screen and then its stuck again. What can I do to fix this? If I do a factory reset will I have to root it again?
i honestly dont know but a suggestion i see a lot is to do the hard reset which is pressing the n button along with the power button and you have to do it 8 times ill try to find a vid
If you do full factory reset you will loose root.
but the good thing is that its very easy to root
Yeah, I was afraid I would loose everything. I may wait a bit and see if this has happened to someone else before I do anything. If not, I guess I will go ahead and do a reset. I really hate to do that!
have you tried plugging the NT into your computer via the USB cable? I wonder if that would allow you more access?
I would do a factory reset and re-root if necessary. Worst thing that could happen is that you'd have to restore back to 1.4.0 before re-root.
Well I did a factory restore, made sure I was at 1.4.0 and I was, set up everything and connected to the wifi.......downloaded tgps then turned off my wifi. Went through turning on debugging...got that. Started zergy and it noticed my nook since my drivers were already installed. It recognized my nook number and asked if I wanted to root, I entered Y then hit enter. It then restarted my nook and did nothing. My tablet came up with a warning that said I may now move items from my PC to my tablet, please eject nook from computer to avoid file transfer problems. I restarted zergy and it said that my nook is already rooted???? It did not install gapps, launchers or anything.......
I did another factory reset and went through the process again and it did the same thing. I know Im missing something but I dont know what it is. This has happened to me 2 times, once I had to go back and get rid of the update proceedure and reroot and now this. Very frustrating to say the least.
I thought that doing a reset would unroot my nook??? I am wondering if now I have to unroot it and then go back and root it again?

There is more than one recovery process. The nook+power button seems to do a factory reset (reformat and restore /data). The 8 bad boots does a full factory software reinstall (reformat and restore /system and /data).
yea the 8times thing is what i was referring to
*How to make a hard reset - This reset the /system folder to factory (removing gApps, restoring bloatware, removing root, etc)
*How to make a factory data reset (Wipe Data/erase-deregister): Go to Settings> Device Info> Erase and Deregister Device - This will clean/format /data (All your installed apps will be gone)

did you eject your nook when the warning was up?
Yes, I ejected it from the pc. When I plug it back to the pc it gives me the same message.......
At this point, could I just do the one step unroot and then go back and root it again? I will not be able to do anything else to the tablet until Friday because of my work shedule, so I am gathering information until then. Thanks.
Also I was wondering if anyone else has seen this message pop up? I'm almost tempted to mess around with it to see if I can get apk files to install while using the Barnes and Nobel software since it says its rooted, lol. Then again, I don't have the 999 version to block OTAS either.

I tried the [WIP] build.prop mod in the development section.
My nook only boots to the white screen now, and then turns black. I tried a factory reset, but it still does the same thing, Is there anything else I can go to get the old build.prop file back the way ot was I did rename the old one to build.bak
I have no access via USB. tried taking out my usb card as well. Still nothing.
Reboot 10 times to get factory restore.

See below:
There are two different kinds of resets one is a reset the other is a restore.
Please hold down the N and Power button on starting the devices, and do this 10 times. This will cause the device to power up and then power down after getting to the bootloader (the N screen). This will then trigger a factory RESTORE, which will wipe all data, including build.prop.

The 8-10 failed Boots is a Full restore which replaces all the files in /system where a botched build.prob resides so this would be the only restore that would fix this as the more minimal restore on clears userdata and cache...
A full a restore will show green down arrow
A full a restore will show green down arrow?
Then say Factory reset?
Then you hit home
and home again?
and then it say clearing data?
or are there two types of factory reset?

Yes, 2 different types.
Never mind There are two types
tried it again, and this time it reset then rebooted, then it said clearing data again right away. Then then it said restoring factory software. it did not say that the first time.
And it booted like a new nook.
Thanks,
It looks like it should work again.
So the 9.4.2.21 update was pushed to my tablet yesterday and it hosed everything. gapps crashes as soon as the tablet boots. I have not unlocked the bootloader (If I had done that first and put CWM on this wouldn't even be an issue THANKS ASUS!) obviously lost root with the update so tried to Voodoo OTA keeper and it was unable to restore root. So I figured it was factory reset time that should clear up whatever is going on. Big mistake, now I cannot even get past the intro screen I get to the setting date/time and it crashes and will not let me past that. Since I factory reset ADB is no longer an option since USB debug is now off. I am able to get to the SD card as the PC is able to see it as a media player but that is about it. APX mode and recovery modes are accessible but useless as a far as I can tell. I have 9.4.2.15 downloaded...just have no way of reflashing. Am I screwed?
This is where I am currently at with my tablet. It is an unrooted 1.4.2. I am having a problem with getting the device turned on somewhat. Using the power button does not garner instant power. Instead I have to wait approx. 10 mins. and wallah its on. Prior to this mishap. I was stuck in a boot loop where I could not get the tablet past the Nook "N" logo. Because of this I somehow was able to factory reset the tablet from the Alpha Build of ICS9. Accessing CWM has proved useless as I can not turn on the device at the precise moment of initially pressing the power button and nook logo button. I also am having trouble using any adb method as to do so would involve block OTAS and getting the firmware to 1.4.0. The only option that I have come to is taking the tablet in store for a replacement. I am just concerned due to the fact that I am unsure if the factory reset was able to wipe everything from the memory of the tablet (i.e. me rooting the device). I would just hate to have to shell out money if it is something that I am overlooking?

all i can say is "wow" ! . . . did you try the Adam Outler thing ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910
big file so it will take time to see what happens after I do this. If nothing else, I will at least be able to return the device and exchange without fear of having to play for the replacement for breaching the warranty. Will post my results when done.
Thanks to oldfart and adam. What I think happened was during the boot loop and master reset, something happened to the internal file system. Everything works great and is in order. This should come in handy should this happen again though.

I had the same problem with my next 7 premium se 8gig.
Pop your sd card in.
Boot into recovery mode by pressing the power button and the volume down button at the same time.
When recovery comes up, delete the media partition, clear your cache and restore to factory settings.
Choose the option to restart the tablet.
Once it boots it should be back to life though you will lose everything on it.
Beats having a useless tablet though.
It took me only a few hours to reload all my apps and she's been running fine since.
Good Luck.
I got it to go to recover but once at recovery it says upgrading please wait and sits their.
Exact same issue...
Any luck in resolving this yet? I have google for 16 hrs so far, and tried countless methods of restoring my tablet to it's previous glory...
Any help is much appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
sd card

I have the GT-S7560M through Solo (Bell) and I rooted it shortly after purchase last year. I've been happy with the phone and for the last few weeks an upgrade notice has been appearing but would fail when applied. Some searching suggested the root was interfering. At first I started to look into un-rooting the phone, but then thought that a factory reset would be the simplest, least-risky solution. I had done a factory reset on my last Galaxy phone without a problem so it seemed like a safe choice. I backed up the contact info, etc with Kies (I don't use many apps so I didn't go all out ie Titanium Backup) and removed my SD card.
Now the phone boots to screen asking me to pick a language and press Start. Then it moves on to a black screen with the info bar at the top (clock, cell strength, data xfer) and nothing else. It is auto-rotating. The phone does react to touches with the buttons lighting up, but I can't get anywhere. Kies can see the phone, the phone number, the firmware version and all that. It reports Internal Memory as 84.83MB used of 1.58GB. I can navigate through the phone using Windows Explorer. I did a Restore with Kies but it doesn't seem to have had any relevant effect.
I am able to boot into CWM Recovery. I don't remember doing a back-up with it, and when I ask it to restore from either the SD card or the interal SD it says it can't mount.
At this point I would start thinking about taking the phone back to the store, but a flash counter appears during start-up and I'd rather they didn't see that for obvious reasons.
When I google I just get people who have bricked their phones. I just want my phone to work again. I'm not worried about modifying it further to achieve that.

I've just finished doing that, and it appears to have worked.
For anyone else with a similar problem who finds this thread:
- Go to the FAQ here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45767157#post45767157
- Download Daver18qc's root kit at the link provided (you'll have to scroll down to the second post). You want this to get Odin; don't worry about the zip's other contents.
- Go here: http://www.sammobile.com/ and register. It's free and all it wants is an e-mail and your country.
- Go here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and type s7560m in the search box. The list will automatically update. I'm a Solo customer and chose 'Canada (Bell Mobile)'. When I first tried this in Firefox I would get a screen telling me I wasn't logged in. I tried it in IE (which I never use and so is 'clean') and the download went through.
- Go back to the FAQ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45767157#post45767157 and scroll down to 'Short Tutorials' and 'How to Flash with Odin:'.
- One thing it leaves out is that when you boot into Download Mode, you will first get a warning screen that asks you to either press Volume Up to continue or Volume Down to abort and reboot. Not a big deal but it caught me off guard. Odin will not detect the phone until you get past this screen.
- Continue with the Tutorial. After it is done you will have to setup the phone again. But at least it's working now.
