Hi everyone
I experienced a GPS problem since i update from build 3.0xxx
and i'm not alone, probably all Neo have this issue and i'm sure is a software bug
Here you can find interesting informations
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/145641#145641
the gps signal usually drops every 5 minutes without reason
there is a log in the discussione and very accurate dates
this is my last reply and experience:
"Oh my god, is totally right
in flight mode no gps disconnection !!!!!!
today 20km in the city with these settings:
wifi off - gms only - connection data off (i don't have a sim plane), my cell is totally out of the net
first 10 km gps drops every 5 minutes
last 10 km, same settings but flight mode ON
no more signal drops !!!
i don't know if crying or laughing
but it is clear this is a BUG
Sony do something, we hope in you"
I thinks would be simple correct this bug, the problem is very precise
like the wifi one that drops
what do you think about?
Today 50km with Sygic gps navigation
flight mode ON
GREAT! signal perfect and very very precise
flight mode OFF
very bad, every 5:00.00 minutes the signal drops
this happen only with no Data Connection
most of you have data connection, so you don't observe the problem, but there is
agps must not work during navigation !!!
i'm unable to contact sony to solve this issue, xperia support center says me they don't speak with developers to cure this bug in the next release software
please help me, it is possible do something, some mods from your developers?
it is so bad navigate and can't receive call
really ? maybe u can upgrade the version to 4.0
Yes, without data connection, the gps drops every 5 minutes, not ecceptions
only in flight mode all is perfect
so i ask you, you are very expert and good developers
it is so difficult investigate this problem and found a solution?
I can't wait ICS, this is a big issue
I hope some developers from you can help me, found the problem and a simple solution, a command line, a script, something that allow the gps to work without data

I don't use data, but I've never experienced any problems with GPS.
Which kernel do you use? Maybe try the OC kernel by inteks?
My is a stock model, rooted, with last firmware 4.0.2.062
the kernel is stock
i don't know to think, in flight mode works well, with no data connection drops every 5 minutes, you says is perfect , my not
but it isn't an hardware issue, this is sure
some ideas?
I usually don't use gps that long, only for getting my position for a tweet e.g. But the times I tried it worked perfect.
How is the connection in Google Maps?
I use Google Nav for hours on end in the car and never have an issue. STOCK .42 or .62

google navigator works with data
so not is my problem, that only occurs with no data connection
i don't use google maps, but sygic gps navigation, and all the time the signal drops every 5.00 minutes not a second more or less
this precise time let me to think there is something wrong in the firmware
tha hardware is good, because in flight mode i can navigate for hours
p.s i tried a firmware repair, and this didn't happen with the firmware 3.0xxx.145
Sorry, didn't quite understand your OP then.

Ok, if you don't use the gps more then 5 minutes, you can't observe any problem
so, also your experience not is concerned about my problem
however thanks for the support, i hope someone can confirm the problem first, and then find a solution

You can cache maps. I do that quite often. Menu, labs, cache maps
via Sony Ericsson Xperia
My GPS tracking is fine,
50 Minutes tried at most....

Hi,
I can confirm this bug too. I didn't notice it before ,but it's for a second only,so that is not critical for me.(I'm on official .42 ROM, no data connection)
Sent from my MT15a using XDA App
The common bug cause disconnections every 5 minutes for about 15-20s
I just discovered also Xperia Arc is affected from this
probably you can see only a second, but with different softwares the behavior is different.
Wich navigations software do you use?
It is clear is a bug, and this can appear in many forms, but with a common point, one disconnection every 5 minutes !!!
Bug not fixed with 0.62 firmware
But, there is not a developer that can solve it himself ?
If i wait sony ...
if you dont have a data plan, why not leave "data traffic" on at all time? it wont cost you anything, since you dont send/receive any data through mobile network.
i only used the gps once (about 40 minutes), with "data traffic" on, and i did not notice any signal drop.
i think this "data traffic" goes a bit deeper: when i first got the phone i switched "data traffic" to off (no data plan, anyway) and i tried to access the internet via wifi. wireless router connected, but nothing further worked until i turned "data traffic" on.

guys, i can't let the gps using satellite in my optimus one to work...
always says "Waiting for location" .... like using the carhome or the navigation bundled applications pre-installed...
any fix please?
You have to wait for a lock. That's normal.
Also, Try waiting for a lock outdoors. GPS signals aren't as strong as the ones used in SMS and stuff.
@ kp
ive tried waiting for quite a long time but nothing happened...tried also outdoor but the same...
ive tried using GPS Test application to located GPS Satellites, and indeed it can locate some with low to average signals...but when i am going to use the pre-installed applications for tracking my location, it still can't.
ive searched the net and someone also is having the same problem using LG Optimus One as well.... >.<
Depending on your firmware this might be a bug. There were GPS problemes reported with certain firmwares. But you have to be patient too, because sometimes it takes a while until 2 or more satellites are found and locked.
You can try using free app like "Ulysse Gizmos" on monitoring gps, especially on lockon status.
& also try this tips to access the internal gps test menu @ link: goo.gl/ZFs6D
Our LG Optimus One P500 code is 3845#*500#
Do let us know how it goes.
Good luck!
I use the P500 whitout a data connection. So does have a sense set the gps in A-GPS or if i have the data not active i have to set it in a GPS Standalone?
restart phone and try again
are u using da stock rom?
@Hesediel
If you don't have data conection you cann't receive any maps, but it's no problem to use a-GPS. But without data you will simply have the geo-data, no maps. So that seems to make no sense.

Yes but i would like to buy an offline navigator like sygic, copilot, ndrive, something like that not the google maps/navigatopr for now, so it's better i use gps as standalone or is the same setting it as a-gps ms based?
it's a known problem.
I've got a p500 without data connection (I'm using wi-fi only).
The first week after flashing my phone the gps works fine.
Then afer a week the gps fix begins to be sloooow.
After a month it is very slow.
So I have to do an hard reset to turn the gps works well again.
Any utility (like gps status) that try to reset the gsp... fail.
The only known solution... is a ... sadly... hard reset.
I hope the someone will be able to write an application to do the same thing like the gps hard reset.
Use fasterfix, you can find this in android market.just search for "fasterfix"
Requires root, busybox and data connection during the initial GPS lock time.
Your gps will get a fix within seconds.

I have a problem with custom rom ( openoptimus) and gps.It takes to much time to lock to gps and sometimes i have to reset the phone in order to work...I have download the faster fix but it hasnet work

Well, i have the same problem and used the same solution. But now I just wait. Sometimes I "cold start" gps with GPS Status or even the "hidden" gps test menu and after waiting a little or a lot (30s or 10min) I get GPS fix. Anyway, restarting the phone seems to work well too.
hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

U only need data/wifi for first location fix and to dl. extra GPS data.when your location is found,u can turn of data/wifi and never use it again if u got downloaded maps.
Its just to get faster location fix on first GPS fix
I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

hehe thanks guys
Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
Hey everybody
I hope I can get some help from you guys.. I got this issue that I started to get into the running and started to need more of my gps to track my training and Ive noticed this weird behaviour of my gps.. It just wont even search for satellites whenever the 3g is on (you know the alert that says searching for gps).. installed the GPS checker to see if there was no satellites or something but it wont even search for them whenever I have the 3g on.. I found that the GPS works only if I disable the Mobile Data and restart my phone.. So I cant have both at the same time.. the minute I enable the 3g data it stops working and I have all the GPS options checked at the configuration and the wifi 3g assist.. What could be causing this?
Please let me know if some of you guys have some issue like this.. I have JellyBam 9.0.0 cyanogen mod based 10.1 and baseband XXXKI4

If you don't have this issue with a stock ROM, its probably a bug in the Jellybam ROM. Have you done a clean install? Since Jellybam has been banned from XDA, you probably won't get support for that ROM here. Maybe you should try contacting the dev of the ROM on their forum.

Hi!
I just want to share my workaround having same problem as this. After configuring my gps.conf as i've posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713&page=77, all went smoothly and fast GPS lock for just about 5 - 15 sec, even on a cloudy or rainy day. Then last Tuesday morning, as soon as the mobile data got connected it cuts the GPS. In short, GPS & mobile data won't run simultaneously. I ran a series of reboot, shutdown, clean up... then as much as i don't want to, i ended up reflashing/reinstalling everything but to no avail! Now, since everything is fresh w/ my S2, but still had same problem. I now zeroed in the problem to how my mobile data connects. I didn't think of this before because everything works perfectly fine. Anyway, this time i changed the Network mode from "WCDMA only" to "GSM only". Finally! it works! problem solved.
So far as of this writing, both the GPS & mobile data connection are working simulteously. Only drawback are: (1) I can't browse the net using the "GSM only" mode because of the bandwidth limitation, but works ok w/ Waze app. (2) If i switched & connected to mobile data using "WCDMA only" mode, i need to switch again to "GSM only" mode & restart the phone in order for the GPS to works again.
I don't know, but i'm thinking if our telco here has something to do why I had this problem. Maybe they change some configuration... I dunno.
My phone:
SGS2
Android 4.1.2
3.12.0-rc1 Siyah-Dorimanx-V8.41

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. Searching forum and the internet without results.
Last week I spent a lot of time with my SGS2. The problem occurs when gps and mobile internet data are used at the same time, but only when the phone use 3G or H+ standard.
When mobile data are transmitted on E/2G there is no problem at all. The issue with gps is that when I drive car and I'm in one location at the city (every day at the same place) the gps icon disappeared and no navigation at all. This is quite big square around 2x2 km. After I leave the area I have to turn off and on the phone and everything works ok, even when mobile data 3G/H+ are transmitted.
So described problem occurs only at the specific area. I don't know what cause the issue. After next researching I discovered, that gps disapeared ONLY WHEN THE PHONE USES UMTS 2100 MHz. In the service menu I mark only UMTS 900 MHz and the gps works very good. This time mobile data 3G/H+ are used simultaneusly with gps and everything is ok.
So the problem is olny when we are connected to BTS at 2100 MHz and only at the specific area. It seems that some kind of 2100 MHz signal intereferences wiht gps circuit maybe. I'm not a proffesionalist, I only suppose that.
Maybe somebody will find the complete solution with that.
My problem is at the cetral of Poland. I tried a lot of firmwares, modem drivers, gps.conf modifications. Nothing. Zero results.
My phone

Android 4.1.2
Modem I9100XXKH3
T-mobile brand (but tested unbranded)

Hmmm... it seems our telco here has something to do w/ my concern. Today, simultaneously my S2's GPS & 3G/H+ are working perfectly fine. I didn't do any reconfiguration w/ my S2, i just tried to switch how my mobile data connects, from "GSM only" to "WCDMA only".

As the title says, my GPS will turn on and will lock fine but in google maps it says im about half a mile away, actually on the road i lived on when i first got the G1 like 7 years ago, if that makes any difference.
Instago says im elsewhere but keeps moving erraticly as if Im teleporting to places instantly but still within a half mile from me,
OsmAnd will get my location but only if connected to data, even though it has downloaded offline maps.
Offi travel will give me directions but from the afforementioned half mile away address. which for both apps doesnt move or change even when im moving.
I flashed an aGPS patch from on here recently which may have caused this, i dont use gps much so this may have started because of this or before, i dont know. Any ideas on ways to solve this or some things i could try?

Cheers for the reply, but I only have a backup of this same rom as apart from this issue, which I only noticed today, it all works well. I can live without it being accurate, I hardly use it to be homest. Just wondering if it was a known issue with a simple fix?

I would try GPS Status from the market. load it, press menu button and select tools/Manage A-GPS State/ reset for a cold start and see if that helps.
You can also use it to download assistance data from the net. That app is pretty good for monitoring what is going on with your GPS. It also has a few other tools for calibrating sensors.
Thanks, but there are 2 apps with the same name, is one better than the other?

0 fix and only 4 satellites looks like weak GPS or just a bad spot.. Have you tried outside and going to a different location to try to get it to fix?
I just went through this the other day myself with 2 of these phones after flashing a few different ROMs. It just wouldn't pick up SATs or fix until I did a reset (cold start) with that app and drove around a little...After that it would lock even in my house...
It worked for me so I thought I'd suggest it...If you didn't know, When your GPS actually gets a fix your GPS icon in status bar should stop flashing and if it starts flashing again it has lost the fix and is searching for SATs again.

I'm no expert, it just seemed like after I moved around (went for a drive with one and wandered my back yard with the other) while using the app and got a bunch of SATs and fixes, It would then find and fix from inside when it wouldn't before.....I just tried again and got 6 SATs and 2 fix in 60 seconds inside. It wouldn't find more than 1 sat before I did the cold start reset and did the above....In maps it puts me across the street sometimes but its close (100ft.)

Thanks,
Did as you said, reset GPS, went outside with the app running for about 40 minutes and was continuously 7 satellites found, 0 connected. Then just as I was nearly home it connected to 4 satellites. I kept it running and opened OsmAnd (offline) maps and it found where I was perfectly. Kept both running til I got home and got connected to my wifi. GPS status still has me connected, as does OsmAnd but google maps wont connect or find me. Now...... do I just leave/close the GPS status app as it is or do I need to now download aGPS data? Is there some way to 'store' the settings/locks it has now or do I just leave it and thats it now? As I dont have data outside, and my offline maps worked ok I dont really care about google maps to be honest, would just be nice if it did work.
But do I just leave it as it is now? or can I save something? or will downloading the aGPS remove the locks that just took me 40 odd minutes to find?
Thanks.

It sounds like the GPS might just be on the weak side, I'm not sure..maybe if your using a case try without it?.....All this being said, I myself have noticed a weaker GPS since I've been using KK roms compared to to stock firmware. Thought it was the weather around here though, maybe not...
As far as the app goes, I'm pretty sure it loads in the background when you use the GPS, google maps and so on. I'm not sure it is doing anything to help at that point but it shows its icon in the status bar along with the gps icon. The icon animates when it finds sats and when it gets a fix as opposed to the GPS icon that just stops flashing when you have a fix....
I just set the app to get A-GPS info every day when I'm traveling. Anytime I have a problem with getting a fix for my nav app I just reset with the GPS Status app and it starts finding sats before I even re-download A-GPS data....

I never even thought about the case.... I shall try without it on. If that makes no difference I'll go back to a stock backup I have which I know worked perfectly, just to check its not hardware related as mine too was better on non kitkat roms. And if all else fails, I'll just do what you say and set my phone to download aGPS every morning at home before I get up.
Ta.
It seems that you have the same issue I am facing. I suggest you to look at my post and follow it :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/weak-gps-signal-hardware-fix-t2685439
You can try to follow the link attached on my post, where a small hardware modification is explained. Maybe this will help you.
For now, I'm planning to change a part (HP/antenna part) and will probably replace it this week-end (if received !). I will post news about that as soon as possible in my post
Good lock
Hi,
I can't get the GPS to work at all! I have tried the fixes in the engineering mode but these don't seem to help.... I have flashed Loki's ROM on my 2100 EU TS... Is there anything else that I can try... oh it did once register a single satellite when my phone could see 20+
Did you have an active data connection? No data connecting can result in lock times taking as long as never but usually 10-20mins.

Yeh I'm connected to wifi.... Im going through the tutorial here....

When im in the engineering mode and click on "EPO (IDLE)" this changes to downloading, it just continually says progress=0 and then seems to just say it failed..."EPO Update Failure" it does seems to have mentioned progress=25 once or twice...
UPDATE:
OOO I just noticed 11 are in view but 0 are in use :S
So does that mean I need to always be connected to internet to get the GPS to work or is it just the initial fix?
Pretty much every time, unless you stay in the same general (read "very local") area.
EPO: Requested download normally fails for me too. It ususally works eventually, but the data is older than preferred, I believe the locking is faster with a week old than a month old data (no real test though).
The app MT GPS downloads EPO, so you can speedup acquisition. EPO affects "sats in view" rather than the locking of them, so it may not help now.
A-GPS requires mobile data (and possibly Wifi) and speeds up locking by triangulating. Locking works fine for me without AGPS in the same area.
Another tip is to set NTP and relax locking requirements. This can be done with FasterGPS app. (You can edit gps.conf yourself too.)
