Hey everyone! I have recently obtained a Motorola Photon 4G and will be making lots of how to videos for it! I do see there are a lot of written guides, but no videos. I did make many how to videos for the Samsung Epic and I got such a wonderful response from everyone, I figured I would expand to different devices.
Please post suggestions to future videos in this thread, or PM me!

if you're still locked, use the bootstrap cwm. If you're unlocked, use the custom cwm. The threads are in the development section. ROM manager isn't supported yet.
Awesome! Love videos cause I do better if I can see someone else doing it and just follow how they do it. Can't wait for all the videos! Thanks buddy!

Very nice work. I was already rooted but not tethered so the video was very helpful. I can wait to see the rest of the videos once they are done.
Im a first time android user and I have been reading all I can but no question videos make it so much easier.

I would second this...and add to it that I think I just came.
Edit: Now if we could just get Mystery over here...it'd be almost like home.
This is what I'm talking about!!!!! I'm more of a visual learner and these vids are going to help me a lot. I'm already rooted (using the method by Shabbypenguin) so now I wanna install the Custom Bootstrap Recovery.
Question about that though, will that allow me to flash a ROM?

I think I found the anwer in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199405&highlight=bootstrap
I just got a new Optimus T in the mail today. EXACTLY identical to the Optimus T I had a week ago, that one I Rooted in 10 minutes with NO prior knowledge of this stuff with z4root and it worked fine. THIS device, however will NOT root
Z4root just closes ( not a fc though, just dissapears) two minutes into the process. None of the other ' one click simple roots like universal androot or easyroot they all just don't work after half a minute of thinking. I even got excited after I had successfully installed superoneclick. But even that program ended after 30 secs with a message that said FAIL (literally) WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? Could it be the device itself? Could the manufacturer have patched the exploit?? please help me I can't be stuck with this matrix of the android community. My device must be unplugged!! Some be my Morpheus.
Sent from my LG-P509 using XDA App
What version of Android is on your new phone? IIRC, my Optimus T shipped with 2.2.2. If you have Froyo 2.2.1 or 2.2.2, then use GingerBreak to root it.
ETA: Errr... I guess my phone shipped with 2.2 and I updated it to 2.2.1. Nevertheless, people with 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 should use Gingerbreak.
I had the same issue after the 2.2.2 update. I had to use Gingerbreak to root my old Optimus T
Alright thanks a whole lot guys I'm gonna give it a look see. I totally respect this community.

Hey. For real thank you mates. I'm happy to report it worked like a charm!! I told myself this morning " I'm GOING to root this phone. Couldn't have done it without xda!!

Believe it or not, this thread is the whole reason why I joined XDA. I remembered how much of a pain it was for me to find that answer.
hey guyz,,i have android 2.3 &&& using gingerbreak in my optimus one also,,the error "could not extract assets"is coming and it closes ...wats the stuffffff!!!

I like to encourage the use of your eyes. Often times if you have to find what you're looking for you will remember the solution later. Asking will get you the answer but the fun part comes from knowing HOW to get the answer.
I just picked up one of these for 199.99 at office depot.
I notce a ton of roms but I haven't seen a root access thread. Is there something different that I'm simply not seeing? Am I just having to install nvflash and all is good to go? (I had a g2x so I kinda recall that procedure bbut iirc I had to root first)
Sorry if this sound stupid to ask I'm used to rooting then flashing.

We are all keeping it a secret and not posting about it.
Lol, just curious if any devs have news about this, like if it is still in the works, and possibly done, just not posted yet.
I'm with deeds on this one. With all of the recent updates and new kernels and whatnot, its hard to decipher exactly where we stand with this phone, as far as progress. A quick recap of whats been happening would be great.
I love your screen name, it is so awesome, lol.

Link or where to find this ? I would unlock. but I live in a good 4G area.....
Update, its not fixed yet. Limited time plus lack of help= slow progress. However by unlocking you can have cm7, miui(oops secrets out), oc kernels, and other awesomeness. Imagine 60% increase in speed while increasing battery life massively. Thats how we mophos roll.

Same here, no ROM on my phone until there's an unlocked bootloader from Motorola/Sprint that keeps 4G. For now, its just a rooted phone with ADW launcher.

I have the photon with an unlocked bootlaoder, I had it rooted but for some reason couldn't flash cwm. So I tried unrooting and returning back to stock following qbking77s how to video. But it told me process failed and phone would just stick at motorola dual core screen. So I reflashed the unlocked version I had and can't undo it! Please help.

I suggest that you start your own thread, (I don't have an issue with you posting about this here), but you'd get more responses for help if you post in a new thread. The only people that will read this are the few with bootloader news, like I said, the few. But, if you ask for help in a new thread, chances are, you'll find what you're looking for. Good luck!
You can unlock your bootloader, flash cm7 (or your rom of choice), and relock your bootloader, and then voila.
CM7 with 4g.
But dont use those as exact intructions LOL.
Theyre are threads about it. Look in the dev section.
You might want to try that out before you suggest it.

I was actually going to post my own thread for devs to give 4g updates hehe
I really appreciate what you devs are doing! Ill always be open to help if you need any, im not a developer but interested in learning and am pretty damn good at the basics of rooting/build.prop recovery etc..
One question (even though i should prob make my own thread im not in a hurry to get the answer plus its half the same subject) i have the cmw RECOVERY, ive been out of town and since im normally in kansas city (sprints headquarters, so perfect 4g everywhere) i just wanted to check, if i have cmw RECOVERY does this mean ive lost 4g?

Nevermind! Saw some post on how to unlock your bootloader! Ive nevee had to do a bootloader unlock before thats why i was confused and ive rooted atleast 5 different devices.

I've been using the 198_6 sbf with no serious issues and was wondering if I should flash the 198_7 sbf. Are there any major enhancements or benefits?
Im wondering the same, Im from Ecuador so I use gsm. Updating will cause any trouble?
Funny, I tried to root like 2 weeks ago and messed it up. I put on 198_7 and my phone as been a dream every since. Bluetooth and Pandora work great. No dropped calls. GREAT battery. Web is fast. Facebook is flawless. Youtube is fast on 3G. Camera is great. Thats why I have "Root no more" in my siggy!
Can anyone see what has been changed in 198_7 compared to 198_6? I know Motorola has not officially released it yet nor have they provided any documentation.
Any guess as to why 198_7 hasn't been OTA'd yet? Do you think M found a problem with it? It was leaked so long ago...
sorry sjamie, I canot answer your question and likely could not tell the difference if I put my mind to it!!! All I can say is, my phone works flawless!
Dsims, did you have any problems with 198_6?

To be honest, I have no clue what I was on before. I rooted and unlocked @ 2 months back. 2 weeks ago EXACTLY today I decided I wanted CM9 for a spin. **** went downhill and Shabby gave me 198_7 and I have been cool every since?
Just keep in mind 2 things, most important, make sure you have 100% battery (I did not, had to cut USB cable and tie white wire to + and black wire to -. You cannot use phone to charge, I have wall charger now) Lastly, you loose everything, just like the day you got it from the Sprint Store!
Sprint/Motorola did officially release 198.7. I know because while in the US the update was pushed to my phone.

Hmm... that's interesting ...
I didnt receive the update to _7? Im still on _6 and sprint says that's current..
Sent from my rooted mofo running on sprints 4g network
Again, I got _7 from Shabby? Tell me a file share and I will put it there immediately (well, Im going to eat, call me at 201-681-5429 and tell me where to put it!) I got ya family!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Motorola nor Sprint officially released 198_7. I do have the SBF for it and will probably flash it due to dsims' sheer enthusiasm!
Loki hosts the SBFs if you want any of them in the future
http://martian-imperium.com/Downloads.html
And yeah I think you guys are right, last I looked at motos support page for the photon (3 days ago) it was _6 as the official.
Do you have to be rooted to flash the latest sbf? My wifes photon has been laggy lately. Especially when opening the app drawer.
