Now that we have a rom available to enable the internal GPS (much thanks to DCD!) would it be possible to add a GPS enable/disable icon to the HTC Comm Manager?
Or is this even necessary?
from what ive heard... once you shut your phone to standby it closes the gps port. some people claim with no apps running such as google maps or live search that by going to ##debug#... it still shows their gps location. If i had a bet and we made a button that did that, all it would do is disable the LOCATION ON setting in your phone settings. Then when you want to turn it on.. you would turn that back to location on
i havent played with commmanagers much, but assuming we can point a button at a mortscript, theres already quite a few gps startup morts floating around. im sure we could modify the start script to be a toggle.. let me look around
edit: check out talynone's thread here and see if any of the launcher-type apps he linked might give us a start. the real project is coming up with what you want to call your gps toggle, i think sticking that in the commmanager will be easy at that point.
Thanks guys,
Really there isn't anything to shut off technically...it's not like shutting off Bluetooth transmitter which drains battery power...
But a toggle to switch bet location on and "911 only" would be helpful for those who have friend tracking apps and don't want to be located at certain times.
It's really a very low priority to have I must admit, but it would be nice to know I didn't have to dig deep into phone settings to toggle that off.
I'll look around for something that already toggles this for those who have built in GPS stock and WM6, And post whatever I find here.
friend tracking apps?
there are a few of those services like Loopt that will let friends track you via GPS (probably AGPS)....
https://loopt.com/loopt/sess/index.aspx
It's available for Sprint now...
there are also Parental trackers out there for Smartphones but I have never seen one for the PPC yet...
They also use the location on settings in the smartphones which is really the capability we are enabling with the new radio.
So a quick way to turn location on and off seemed like a good idea.

If there isn't anything to turn on or off, then why do I need to run AstroGPSLauncher to get the sats up for TomTom? Or is this just making a connection that already is live and leads TomTom to it?
P.S. I have seen CommManagers with a GPS icon in the past. Maybe even on one of your ROM's dcd.
Well hohnan - It's very different situation than the other things you turn on and off in the Comm Manager...
IE: when you turn off Bluetooth your really turning off the transmitter and shutting down the port (com usually) that the receiver uses to send data it recieves to the device...but the receiver stays on.
The GPS location off feature is similar in the respect that it does not transfer data it receives to the rest of the phone because the com port is shut down. There is no radio transmitter being used at all. I'm willing to bet that they use a single Radio receiver for all the radio signals the unit can see (Cell BT WiFi GPS). So by shutting location to 911 only your GPS is still receiving Sat data and running (cause it can see the sat transmissions) but it simply doesn't send the data anywhere as there is no port to communicate with.
I think the primer app your running is simply initializing the communications between the radio and the phone so that Tom Tom can use it.
I suspect in due time both Tom Tom and Garmin will be more aware of the built in GPS settings of WM6 and negate the need to run something else before it will work.
Hey!
So I got the Mozart yesterday and I have some problems!
First of all my windows live id.
I connected with my Xbox ID and everything works fine, but in the settings it is always written attention required and updates do not work, but I can download and install apps from the marketplace.
Secondly my battery barley lasts a day WIFI and 3G connection turned off. It has been on today for 3 houres and already 10% is used?? It has only been on standby any things I forgot to turn off?
And did someone manage to get the HTC flashlight working, as it says the mozart is not supported, and does someone have that awesome notes app from HTC i cant seem to find it in the marketplace. THere is only something called lists??
Thanks in advance!
Hi.
I got my Mozart 3 days ago, but maybe I can give some answers.
HTC Notes: The easiest way is through Marketplace. Start Marketplace. On top of the list it says "HTC Apps". Tap on it, scroll down and there it is.
Or you start "HTC Hub". On bottom of first page it says "Weiter" or maybe "More". Tap on it. Do the same on next page. Under "Apps" sroll down and there it is. I prefer the first way.
Battery works fine for me. Starting in the morning at nearly 100% it goes down to about 50% in the evening. WLAN+BT turned of, 3G running the hole day. I have about 20 min. calltime and 30 min. internet. Mail download is set to 1 hour.
Update: Sorry, thought "Listen" was same as "Notes", but Notes seems not downloadable.
For battery life, don't keep push e-mail or GPS on.
battery life
and for best battery-life: turn phone off. I can't understand how feducing connectivity is accepted as the only way to keep a smartphone working throughout a single workday
The Battery Life is very good
I am seeing excellent battery life. A fully charged phone in the morning lets me run Wifi, Push email to my Exchange server, Positioning, Bluetooth and 3G all day with probably an average of 10 - 15 calls per day. Add to that, plenty of playing around, downloading, surfing and facebook etc and I think this would count as fairly decent daily usage. My battery is ausually round 30% by bed time when it is hooked up to Zune on my PC for a charge and a sync.
Cheers
Andy
OK thanks guys it was soo weird after the 10 % it didnt move until I started playing again, but it was weird that the first 10 % were finished so fast and how do you turn of GPS? I did not find an option.

The flashlight app (if you mean one that would permanently turn on the camera flash to use it as a torch) will not work on the Mozart.
The Mozart has a Xenon flash, like a real camera. These can only be used for a very short time (e.g. when the flash goes off) and not turned on for a longer time.
All other Windows Phone 7 handsets use LED lights as their flash. These are not as bright when they just flash, but they can be turned on permanently without them burning out.
I don't think any Flashlight app will ever support the Mozart, because of this.

Thanks!
Totally forgot about that XD
Still a bit stupid should have also built in a LED
Hi again.
Notes is now in Marketplace. Tap HTC Hub and you'll see it. But I don't think you have a chance to get it in zune. Just downloaded it, it's great.
HTC Notes is great but you can write free hand, only type?
and why we need HTC Notes as MS Office Note has the same functionality and its already installed on WM 7.
My problem is the power-Button. This button is too sensible. If i have the mozart in my pants, it could be that the phones turns off by walking.

so you're saying that when the phone is locked it can be powered off without unlocking it first?

Yes. This is more a software-problem... Or stay i alone with this problem?
I am not sure exactly what has happened to mine and I cant seem to find any similar scenarios on the net so far.
It cut out/turned off mid phone call this morning and it will not turn back on, have tried power button and camera button, pulled out/replaced battery, put it on charger (no charge light), only thing left is to try my gf's battery (my battery was >50%) but I don't think that is the problem. Not really looking for a solution here but will post back if I work it out so others can easier (will take it to the shop).
EDIT: Don't know if this will help anyone but I tried as a last resort a hard reset (you lose all your data) and for some reason the phone just turned on ( I didn't get a reset screen). I did this by holding the volume up and the volume down and briefly tapping the power button.
Has anyone have problems scrolling the pages up and down in internet explorer, it sometimes does not react to your finger, like it just freezes.
In dark rooms, sometimes my mozart makes blue pictures...
All of the problems above I have experienced and more, the OS at best is a first release, and depending on your software environment, what apps you have installed, you will experience a variety of problems. On the whole if you use mainstream apps, you should not have major problems. Battery life, is mainly down to your carrier, optimising their servers to deliver data to the phone in an economical way.

It true if you press the unlock button for a long time it turns off regardless of where you are in the OS.....
And the IE problems sometimes happens... No clue why but it sometimes also zooms in and out instead of scrolling.
These are normal ^^
Hi when I installed 351_15609_00 every time when I use program like google earth, google maps, Aura or any other program that uses the gps my device restarts a few seconds after the program is launched?
This is really stupid and I'll send my device through the window (I'm on last floor)
Any ideas how to fix this?
i got zero issues with the gps on 351. Using google nav, telenav and igo.. no issues here. Locks are made in a second or less and work consistently for hours with a missing a beat... makes me want to still punch samsung in the face for the **** gps I had on my captivate.
hi,
back in winmo (from android) and i want to run tomtom with gps on (obviously) but flight mode with phone and bt off to save battery.
i remember i could do this on my old kaiser but cannot see how to do it on the HD2.
i need a GPS Toggle or something like...
By definition flight mode turns off all wireless protocols including GPS. What you need is a utility to selectively enable/disable the various wireless features. This free one here will do that for you:
http://bandswitch.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
Op how did the bandswitch go?
how is the TomTom Vs GarminXT ? are you able to rotate screen on TomTom? Im using GXT works awesome only con is the screen cant rotate and XT cant voice announce speed cameras.
cheers
GPS & flight mode

Hello. I constantly use IGO Primo when my HTC Hd2 in the mode of "flight mode". Possibly does a problem hide in the programs of Tomtom, Garmin?
i have iGO also and that is able to turn on the GPS as needed.
just tomtom that cannot. i only use gps in portrait mode, i cant see the need for landscape.
@patcooke: i will check out that program. seems like that just turns off the phone, as opposed to just turning on the gps
not tried Garmin XT as i dont think they have Middle East maps (I am in Dubai)
i only keep winmo on the HD2 for the GPS. cant bear to lose the investment i have in the maps.
iGO can use the same maps as android but is a mere shadow of the winmo version
Hi Members,
Does anybody know more about the GPS in the HTC Mozart ?
In my old Touch2 i ve got real GPS Modul, the GPS-Fix takes only 1 Minute.
Offline Navigation with Tomtom7.9 was fast and stable and precision. Thats what i need !
Then ive got an Iphone 3GS . It has only AGPS , not a real GPS Modul.
GPS Fix without WIFI or 3GS take about 30 Minutes . The free Navigation runs, but very unprcecision under Trees. Thats a Joke....
Now i have the HTC Mozart. The Telekom Select Navigon Navigation dont start without a DATA Connection via 3GS !
And i found no realy Offline Navigation Software.
Does the HTC Mozart contains a real GPS Modul or only a AGPS Chip like the IPhone ?
Im really angry obout this steps back in the stoneage.
Iv bought an Tomtom XL to navigate. Now iv got 2 Devices and a lot of Cables here in my Car .
Has anybody a better solution for WP7 ?
Nokia Drive, HTC Location... all with no data navigation
Navigon also works without data conection,
just remember to turn on your "location" under settings, then it activates the real gps modul in our mozart.
follow the steps.
the answer to your question is YES.
and follow the steps
1.turn on the gps in settings.
2.turn on the gps in your navigation software(optional if the app has a setting like this)
3.there you go. even without a data connection.
and btw i was curious, does iphone 3gs really a-gps not real gps?
gps
I have now 3 gps in my Mozart... Turn by Turn from gps tuner, which requires data connection so you can download maps on the fly but also you can download them at home via wifi, GPS Navigator from aSpass which is the same, and Nokia Drive that i havent tried yet!
Hi. I use Navigon 4.1 on my HTC Mozart. Did anyone noticed that after using the program for more than 20 mins, the phone turns very hot (i never imagined that a mobile phone can turn this hot). I used it a few times to go to a city 80km and after reaching, when i touched the phone for turning off the navigation, it was really hot. The screen stopped responding to my touch, and I had to cool it in front of the AC for a few mins before it became responsive again. (My guess: the program stresses the processor to near max capacity all the time)
I tried the same distance with nokia drive, and everything was normal. There was only slight heat production (I guess because of the screen turned on for so long), but nothing like when I have navigon on.
Does anyone else has this problem, or am I the only one?
Any reply would be helpful.
Thanks.
