Well well well....we asked for S-off/root and we got it. Within hours the ROMs flooded the dev page.
I loved this phone from the minute I got it. ROMs are making it better. CM7 and MIUI are coming at which point I will probably run around my neighborhood in my skivvies screaming about it.
I have one gripe though. Why are there SOOOO many ROMs? I know everyone wants to get their hands dirty at doing dev work. It makes you the cool kid on the block, and there's a good chance that if you put one on XDA, CheesyNutz will flash it at least once.
I feel like the ROMs are too hard to choose from because most of them are similar, with some being almost exactly the same with minor differences.
This is what I propose. First of all, maybe someone with more ambition than me (read: anyone) could put together a comparison chart of all the ROMs based on the features they have. Using that data, maybe some of the devs that have similar direction/are trying to achieve the same thing can collaborate.
The way I see it, there will be less confusion on the development page, with better ROMs that have more options.
TL;DR - Devs need to collab. on ROMs to reduce clutter and improve ROMs
Oh God. You're not seriously *****ing about too many choices are you?
there is an insane amount of roms, lol most of them offer alot of the same things..but I say, the more roms...THE BETTER!!!!!
Variety is the spice of life...
So you complain about having to look through the ROMs that people develop for your phone (for free) you want a chart made with all the comparisons of those free ROMs but you want somebody else to do it for you? What's wrong with this picture?

The more devs on our device the better.
you gotta remember for a lot of the devs what there releasing now is really just a base for what they will be doing as things progress. over time you will start to see every devs individual preferences start to show along with the themes and all the eye candy some devs like.

right..i just came from the galaxy s 4g on tmobile, and there was literally like 2 roms over there..lol
that's usually what android development is for, to share one another their custom made rom, so no i dont think there are many roms yet, so bring it on!!!
You know what?. people like the OP disgust me. ya Commie..
I bet you think we should all just be happy with 1 ROM to use don'tcha Ruskie?!
Think it's totally ok for us all to just stand in line and wait for our daily allowance of bread, Comrade!?
HUH?!
THIS IS 'MURICA AND WE DON'T TAKE KINDLY TO YOUR TYPE 'ROUND THESE HERE PARTS!!
AAnnyways, I can see your point of view. There are several roms that seem the same right now. it's been barely a week since S-off and it's a very good sign that everyone is wanting to make ROM's, once everyone has their bases done we will see differences pop up, custom themes, ingenious tweaks, etc. Give it some time. The 3D scene is still young.
seriously????....
Im fixin to post my set up soon, so get ready for a phatman ROM. That's one more to the list. Probably the best one ever too.
B l a s p h e m y ! ! !

Theres too many moneys in my wallet gotta be a bad thing
Can't wait phatman it will be the slowest most bloated rom ever
If you don't have an Evo3d well... You ain't got ****e

I can agree with the OP to an extent. For me, seeing the Dev forum say [ROM] after [ROM] after [ROM] is a bit overwhelming for me. But, it's just like any other free market. You're confronted with 40 brands of hot sauce, and damn, that's a lot, but you try one, see how it is, and choose based on that. The bonus of all of these ROMs is that A), they're available online, so you don't have to drive to the store, and B), they're free.
Just my 2 fiat cents.
Just curious..Where have all the Devs gone? The first few days the dev section seemed to be on fire! I haven't seen anything new pop up in a bit. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can be asking this question. I know they do this as hobby/passion and for free which is why I'm simply asking for "proof of life".lol.
Anyone know of anything in the works? Giving me even more of a reason to check the forums 100 times a day like a true flashaholic ;-)

Take a walk outside for some fresh air.
Messages like these will not motivate any dev in getting 'cracking'.
what do you mean, it is doing just fine.....they have been plugging away at getting CWM working....which without leaves most users at a disadvantage cuz some people just seem to have issues with oden and ADB. now that they have an alpha of CWM roms will be coming next. and i also think that since ICS is coming up the future that devs are waiting for that. why keep dropping ginger roms? and i see them working on ICS roms as well. we have a stable ginger rom in TPC's/da g's kernel mix. i still see the same devs working and plugging away and we have more now than we did 2 weeks ago...
they are working, and like you said.... they are working on there own time and for FREE.
we should all be greatful. when they stop working be worried.
I think ICS is in the works. The DEV just wants to clean up some of the other issues he is working on. Yes this is vague but I do not want to over step my bounds.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
I too am eager however the one and only rom we have is stable. I can wait for ICS as long as it takes. We have an overclock kernel as well. With other devices I have seen dozens of roms and dozens of kernels with only one or two having full functionality. We have been very fortunate. With that said there seems to be less than the usual amount of Development on this device but remember this is brand new. It takes a while... with the streak we only had a few devs and even then at one point really only one dev. Give it a few weeks. If not do like I am and imerse yourself in reading on how to make roms. I develop android apps and have a few in the market, now that does not qualify me to make roms it does mean that I have the ability to learn like many others could do if they were motivated to do so.

I THOUGHT I made it clear that was not my intention at all. Thanks for the other responses they actually answered my question. There are many people like me who are fairly new to this. I am coming from the inspire and when I first got it there were tons of roms available, but I got it 4 months after launch. Then I realized I could have been using the desire HD roms. Can the international rooms be flashed using Odin?

NO. You will brick your device if you try to flash international ROMs, as they have a different processor as well as other various differences that essentially make them completely different beasts with the same form factor.
Reading a bit more would inform you as to why development is slow right now and why you can't flash international ROMs.
To give you the sparknotes version of what's going on however:
As others have said, we only have an alpha version of CWM, so devs are working on getting that polished up.
Second, devs are working on a way to get around the flash counter, so that you do not have any problems with a warranty exchange in the future. If you don't care about your warranty or want to risk a return with a triggered flash counter, go for it. Other phones have had their flash counter bypassed, so I'm sure our talented devs will come up with a solution fairly soon.
Also, as others have mentioned, we have one stable ROM already, and a great kernel, so that should solve most problems with using the stock ROM until more development occurs.
Lastly, with ICS on the horizon, there is not really a good reason to produce a ton of GB ROMs, so be patient and use the stable one we have already until ICS drops in a few months or so.
The longest anybody has had this device is 11 days right now, and we already have a stable ROM and OC/UV capable kernel. In my opinion, that's a damn good start, and I have a feeling that development will eventually be huge on this device. Give it a few months. =]
So funny how everyone keeps talking about ICS like its coming in two weeks! Btw the release date for that that everyone think is coming soon is for the International version!

Nobody here referenced the international release of official ICS. I think most people here know that it doesn't mean anything for our devices. However, it will be here eventually, and devs are most likely already working on porting over an unofficial version.

There are various dev versions of ICS cooking as we speak; and, I also wouldn't be surprised if Samsung surprises everyone with an official version on/around March 15th... including a US version.

I feel the same way. ATT and Samsung know they need to do something to pull ahead of android competition; they've done it with quality android hardware, now they need to do it with consumer peace-of-mind on the software upgrade front. Nowhere has Samsung said that ICS for "international note" is coming in Q1 2012. They merely say it is coming to the "note", period. I think ICS will come for the US variant sooner rather than later. I know when I got my Atrix, people whined and hollared that it would never get GB. ATT delivered GB very soon, to the scorn of the red-faced naysayers. I know the Atrix was Motorola, but its still an example of a carrier pushing a fast update. Samsung is an excellent company, especially with their Android devices. If any company leads the way for quicker full-product-line android upgrades, I'd expect it to be them.
Pure speculation and I'm maybe totally wrong, but I think the US Note will see ICS very soon.

thank you guys and gals
This is the downside of getting a newly launched device. I went thru it with the asus transformer 101. That was a little painful in the beginning, but the brilliant minds solved all the problems. It took about a month to really get rolling.
I picked up the Infuse about a year after launch and it was humming within 3 days cause all the hard work had already been done by those great minds in their forum.
The advantage with the Note is it's really great as a stock phone out of the box.
The smart guys and gals here want to advance just as much as we want them to succeed in making this Note the best it can be. So, Patience, and let them work. When they have something good they will be shouting it as loud as can be.
Support and good words go along way. We appreciate you guys more than you know! Thank you for all your efforts, and time away from your work, family, friends and hobbies to devote to this great piece of hardware.
this forum has gotten more action in the past week then the atrix did in the first 2 months. lol.
Damn you guys that are coming from other forums are spoiled!!! I remember waiting foreeevveer just to flash something on the atrix.. and then when CWM came out i was like "wtf is a CWM?" (atrix was my first android).
Stock rom on this phone is doing pretty well for me .Froze all the bloat, not using touchwiz -- and its like i dont even have anything from Samsung on there (besides the SPEN).
I can do without a rom until ICS comes out.. and that is going to do wonders for this device. ICS on the ATRIX is like a breath of fresh air, cant wait to see it on this beast.
Your right, I guess I was kinda spoiled coming from the inspire/desire HD forums. I never realized how long it takes to get things up and running. I apologize if I came off as being impatient. Again that was NOT my intention. I love these forums and appreciate the Devs hard work immensely.
On another "Note" (I know,I know, sorry) I was at best buy mobile last night where I know a couple sales reps and they mentioned that they hoped someone ported over Ics soon as the Samsung rep they spoke with at their store said Ics won't be coming our way for a good while. I myself take that with a grain of salt though. Do you think that a Samsung sales rep would even really know the Ics release schedule?

I guess I never looked too far into the flash counter. I had read a few threads about it, and people seemed to be convinced that AT&T would get fussy about it. I suppose it doesn't really mean much if you end up putting your phone back to stock and unrooting before returning it. If it wasn't for rooting and such, developers couldn't make apps and flash stuff to the phone, so I guess it doesn't really make sense at all why they would care if the device has been flashed with something else, especially if it is returned to a stock state for a return.

My last phone was a nexus s (very used to variety and activity. And aokp) and these forums are disturbingly quiet, as are all the other ones i can find. Makes me wonder if i should find a trade on an international version, but this one looks so much better!

The note is a great platform in a great series of devices. Devs will not let it go untouched.
Would you rather have some cook bustout a rom he just copy pasted together from some source code he got from a Google search and it be filled with bugs and FCs or have a high quality rom that devs with talent have been working day and night in their spare time (for free) to build?
Long story short: get the note and breath lol

I'm with you, i have no time limit. There are times where I went months on a rom, but other times that I was flashing numerous roms just to see how they differed. I have so many android devices in my house that there's always something to play with. We are up to 3 nook colors, so I'm able to flash a phire to one, kanged to one, and good ol CM to one just to play with them side by side. Flashing roms is just fun to some and approached with a "why the hell not?" attitude rather then "ok i think im sure i want this one, i've ready all 8,532 comments on the thread...i think im ready", which is of course how i started this addiction.

Hello XDA,
As you may or may not know, the official CM9 Project for the HTC Amaze has not died at all. It is being worked on by developers like +Max Krivonos.
I am making this post mainly in hope of educating myself in regards to the development process and things realted to it.
I've been following the project since the day they released the video of what Max got working on the Amaze already. Over the course of many months, cable detection, SD card, and "wifi" was fixed. There are only problems like GSM and the Camera left. Now I understand that Max has been busy with a lot of things considering his comments on his update posts seem to say that, but I am just curious as to how long does it really take to get things like that fixed?
My HTC Amaze is only my second Android device to my HTC Sensation which I only had for about 2 months. I have never really followed a project exclusively so I have no idea as to what the average timeframe is. However, my main concern is that Max "opened the repo", and a leak for the ICS update already came out. Shouldn't this help a lot? There are already many developers who are pushing out very clean ROMs based off of the leak, and there's only around 2 problems with more than 1 developer working on the issues. How long does it really take?
I didn't want to bother Max and other devs by asking them because I'm sure they have a lot of things on their hands anyways. Like I said before, this is not meant to be negative in any way. I simply want to learn about this, because I have been very eager waiting for CM9 like everyone else.

I think someone said Max quit working on it, and has posted his build online somewhere. As the poster above me said, it is because of the lack of source code atm. Once the ICS leak becomes "official", HTC should release the code. Keep in mind we're not really supposed to have this leak at the moment.
Max posted over a week ago that he was stopping his work on it as "he is just too busy" and released the repo.

Gosh, I had no idea because I couldn't find anything like that on Google+
Who will be working on it? I guess another thing i'm trying to ask is if it's impossible to derive the source-code from the leak.
Well I definitely understand were your coming from but I think we just have to be patient like its hard trying to pull the drivers that are specifically made for the sense it takes time to try and rework those drivers for an aosp rom so I guess it would be wise to just be patient and wait to see what spot or xboarder is doing. I know xborarder is on android-dev.us and he's working with a couple of ppl on a Tom so just be patient man.

Yeah I remember reading his thread a while back. Kernels rely on official releases? Can't someone build their own kernel? Does it take a long time?

Well it all depends on how many devs are working on it so yes kernals are very difficult if you don't know what your doing or if your just new period but just keep looking out for it I think it will come sooner than you think

Finally get kernel source and development slows down.. bummer

too many new phones coming out!
Great things come to those who wait...
How is it slowing down
We have like a new kernel every day. Read Chad's dev thread he is going warp speed on his progress and we are becoming the only second verizon phone aside form the nexus to have aosp ( tbolt had it because of slayer ).
So right about now, i think if i had the money, i would re-buy the rezound, finally the perfect merge between hardware and software.
And beside all that, all of the devs are busy with school , yet they still have time to try on jelly bean and work on it.
Instead of making a thread like that, i would take the time, go press your max 8 thank yous to every thread and buy them a cup of coffee.
Ok this came out a bit hostile, i am sorry about that, but we have a bunch of awesome devs right, its like we have la creme de la creme now, and i feel completely opposite from you.

Like the last guy said. I don't think it has slowed so much as it has shifted. Everyone seems to be working on soap now. Also school has started and people do have lives (i hope). It's still the weekend, get out there and enjoy it!
We are just getting like literally 100% cm9 like .. any day now. It's at 90% right now.
AOKP is not far behind, idk say 70% currently and will be 100% in a week to three weeks(total guess by me). We have MIUI, not sure where it's at right now haven't been looking. We have great ics ROM's. We have Great sense 4 ROM's. We have great kernels being pumped out everyday now. We have Fully functional GSM ROM's The dev's that are almost done with cm9 are getting into jelly bean now... what more do you want ...
oh yeah and 1-3 people are thinking of porting touch wiz over or something as well.
Edit 2: Oh it also looks like someone is working on paranoid android also hmm so what was it you wanted op a phone that prints cookies right before you get home?
mmm cookies that would be sick xD lawl
Edit 1: It hasn't slowed it has went warp speed in the background
lack of releases =/= lack of development.
And we'll probably be getting jb quite soon.

That's a very snide way to look at development. It's not like this stuff happens over night.
Only thing I have to say is if your unsatisfied with development maybe you should learn to develop yourself. That way you can for fill your own needs. Not sure what people expect sometimes. We have about 4 different kernels all kinds of ROMs, and themes what the hell are you expecting? Let me get you some cheese..
I can tell by your 11 post and 1 thanks that you have a lot to contribute.. This thread should be closed..

Post vs thanks count isn't really a fair way to look at this. When I started out mine was really low too, but now I'm pretty helpful around here. (I fully agree the OP's attitude sucks though)

You're kidding, right? The dev thread gets updated every day or so, and I believe chad just managed to fix bluetooth. We're getting ready to start on JB. Just buy a new phone if you want instant gratification

Im trying to build ParanoidAndroid from source for us atm, including all the fixes that have happened since the last build was made. Im learning this as I go but I got cm9 built so I know I can do it.
Antp's cm9 kang works great, I've been running it for a few days now and haven't had any compliants about it! Once Devin works on uberkernel more and cm9 reaches full stability on our phones it will be awesome. I was running Neo's adrenaline and it was good but cm9 totally kicks it's ass! The battery life is absolutely amazing, I've had my phone on for 5 hours and I'm at 72% when I'd usually be at about 30 when on a sense rom!

hahaha i just lol'ed at how you're patting yourself on the back there. classic ashton.
Wow. At times this forum is just not friendly. I'm guessing the OP feels this way because there are no JB roms yet. I can share the eager anticipation.

This community went through a lot. We love and respect our developers and their free work. We get riled up when people come and drive our dev away. If you want jb ( which i am sure is coming in due time ) then get the crappy nexus.
Dont forget, we have one of the only 3 phones on the network that can surf and talk on 3g, its a hard radio to figure but bec of out lightning speed developing , we now have aosp on one of the best hardware verizon has.
BTW, any one else think that verizon tech support are highly uneducated ... I keep trying to explain to them this surf and talk over 3g that makes it so special with our rezound and they go " yeah all of our 4g phones can do this on 4g networks , of if there is wifi and 3g. Are they retarted ???? what kind of crap is that , they dont even know their own phones ?
we should make more thread to ***** at verizon , not our devs. I would be down for that .

I vote we banish OP to my old phone. If this is slow development, then ours over there never even left the starting gate.
