I was wondering how many of you might be put off by the fact that the Flyer is shipping with Gingerbread and not Honeycomb - even though it will get Honeycomb later.
Appreciate the feedback.
I love the idea of the scribe technology, but considering how small it is and battery life....plus it is not shipping with Honeycomb and the price is going to be higher than comparable devices....
It's sad as I have owned only HTC phones. I love their quality.
The scribe technology I LOVE! I can see so many added benefits of this - especially in syncing with Evernote. I also see a benefit with those having children.

There were some internal docs from either bestbuy or costco that were reporting a 10.1" screen edition as well later in the summer.
I'd pay top dollar for Scribe + 10.1". There is a serious dearth of handwriting systems for android. Now if we could just get an OCR input system (e.g. Graffiti for the old Palm PDAs). I've seen a demo of scribe, and it doesn't look like it does input analog>digital, maybe I'm missing something. Still better than nothing.
There was also one more interesting quip about Android 3.0 in Eldar’s article. According to him, if a hardware partner releases the tablet on Android 2.x version of OS, as per licensing agreement for Android 3.0, they are not allowed to update Android 2.x tablets to 3.0 version.

I'd say that is probably just a rumour. I've not heard it from any other source. The article at unwiredreview is the only article that author has written and his dubious source of information is a Russian website that he links to

I agreee - I'd rather wait for a stable version.
The Xoom is a worst case scenario. Made by Motorola, released prematurely.
The main benefit I see from Honeycomb is apps which are designed to run on larger screens, instead or "over-inflated" phone apps

I can't wait for this tablet to come to market. Ofcourse there will be things I do not like, one is the fact it is not a phone. It is a tablet, and I want a tablet also to be a phone. Since it has 3g enabled I think a phone application is not hard to install. Any ideas on this?
Was all for the flyer as I'm a massive HTC fan ,but just ordered the ASUS transformer as it suits my want for a tablet and the need for a net book for the kids and it has honeycomb already and has good reviews

Won't be buying due to the fact that I already have a galaxy tab (Big Mistake!!) Although the design and ui of the flyer look good, along with the fact that htc are good with updates, and a lot of people I have talked too like the pen. Not sure about the onlive myself due to the fact that you have to use a onlive controller (what are you meant to do with the tablet if the controller is in both hands?)

The idea is that you stream the game to your tv, so the flyer just replaces the normal onlive box that is sold, playing games on the flyer screen is also possible, but i agree that it sounds somewhat difficult :/ maybe they are going to sell some sort of case/stand like the Xoom and iPad have
but yes all the rumors suggest (from staples leaked sheets that a 10 and 8.9 inch honeycomb tablet from htc are coming this june, maybe thats when flyer will get update
id like to see what they do to sense considering there is that base bar on the honeycomb though

I'm disappointed in HTC's first tablet. Just the screen size is what disappoints me. Wondering why they dont add the 3D into it like the G-Slate has, after all they are coming out with a new EVO3d that i will be picking up once released!. Companies are struggling to separate themselves from everyone else when these android tablets are going to start looking identical, but HTC has their SenseUI and now Scribe which in my book gives them the edge! I'm just excited to see what happens with 3rd party firmware tweaking for performance to eliminate the possibility of skipping. MikFroyo and Fresh both have wonderful Firmwares that made my Evo many times better in terms of performance while clearing out the clutter
The LG tablet does not have a 3some screen, only 3d camera, a 3some screen of that size would add a lot of extra cost, it just wouldn't be worth it, but yes a bigger screen would have been a better choice by htc, but then again if you look at the first Android phones they made and compare them to what they have now....great things I predict to come

Game over for me. I just cancelled my preorder since the release date is going to slip again. Im travelling early June and want to make sure I have something to travel with so I ordered the Galaxy Tab 10.1v which I can pick up in a week or so.

I have owned HTC devices since the G1 n now i have the mytouch 4G rooted running Evil SD lates 2.3 port for it.
I wanna invest some money in a tablet. The MYT4G has a good size screen but sometimes it can strain your eyes when watching movies or heavy internet surfing. I want a portable tablet with the latets software and some of the newest feature. I have t mo. Here in the states. So the WiFi version of the Flyer is the only one available yet..
I have a questions. Your answers will help me deacide to buy one.
1. Does the Flyer have the ability to connect to a phones hotspot? Meaning if I tether wirelessly
2. I know there is no phone calls capabilities, but can you skype and quik?
3. Does it have a SD port?
4. And based on your experience with the device do you think it will be rootable in the future?
5. Also how does it sound? The speakers and w a headset is it real good.
Thanks I have many more questions but i think these r the most important for me. Any other things you think I should know prior to buying I would love to hear em.

Yes to all of those, I have the 3g model, and love it the form factor of it is perfect. I've played with quite a few 10" and they aren't for me.
The only down side I can see to flyer its a touch heavy, but its no heavier than any tablets out at the moment, I just would preferred HTC to have put HTC on a wee diet.
The CPU is fast, the only slow down I've every had was first boot up whilst my apps where caching.
The speakers aren't great great, but there not bad, you could listen to music or watch a movie, saying that if I was listening to music I'd probably hook up some speakers.
But really loving the flyer.

To answer your initial question, it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a 7" device or the ability to write digital notes, highlight and mark on books, PDFs, and websites, or need to sketch/draw on the go, then yes, it is worth it simply because there is no other device that would allow you the features that the pen does. And if you are in the market for a 7" tablet, I would say it's the best 7" out right now.
To answer your other questions:
1.Yes, I have T-Mobile and have had no problem connecting it to my cell phone wirelessly
2. I was able to download Skype from the market; I don't use Skype, but I'm assuming it shouldn't be a problem. Could not find Qik in the market.
3. MicroSD port, yes
4. I've never rooted my devices, so I cannot say.
5.The sound is pretty clear and loud (this is based off watching videos, I haven't listen to music on here). I don't necessarily like the placement of the speakers, I thought they should have them on the both sides of the device for a more balanced stereo sound. But I'm into audio, so that's just my thought. But they are clear and can get loud when the volume is turned up to the max.
I have a few videos on my YouTube channel, CheckThisGadget, going over the HTC Flyer and doing the pen test. So that should help you in making your decision also.
Great device, as other have said.
In addition, as HTC release firmware updates I think it'll get faster as HTC optimise Sense and Honeycomb is supposed more efficient.
It lacks phone functionality..
They made a change to the market which causes my apps button to be accesible only by menu button.
A Lot of software available trough other devices ain't accessible by the flyers market.
HTC Watch sometimes works , sometimes not.
All by all .... I think a lot of work on the rom has to be done. It's not worth at THIS moment in my opinion.
To the OP, yes to the inquiries. I feel rooting will be dependent upon popularity of the device. Speakers are what you would expect from small compact drivers... A bit tinny, but okay.
IMO, the pen integration sets this device apart from other tablets. HTC did a good job adapting apps for pen usage. I used it extensively at meetings during the week, and it was impressive. If you don't have a need for the pen then, there are better options for tablets out their... Again in my opinion.

One of the post did make really consider what I wanted it for, n its basically to replace my phone in terms of web browsing n media player. I like to call using my phone I really don't see why I woulnt want a tablet to make a phone call. LOL but the 3g will make it real independent.
I'm not to crazy bout HTC scribe but its a very nice feature since I do go to college it would be great for note taking.
I also looked at the notion link tablet. Idk if its out or what but it looked great.

I too considerd the Notion Ink a while back but decided against it due to the tablet coming from a small shop in India and support may or may not be up to par. Plus ordering one put you on a list as units were being built.
As for browsing the web, the Flyer is great. I enjoy surfing the web more on the Flyer than my Xoom. I have not had one force close on the Flyer yet which I cannot say for the Xoom. Tabbed browsing is missing for now but Honeycomb will fix that. The speakers are pretty good, not great. You can download an equalizer from the market that will help when using headphones.
Overall, it's a nice device and suits my needs perfectly (web browsing, email, occasional games)
Yes its worth it, it is the only true multi function 7 inch tablet on the market.
I got mine two days ago in Hong Kong and I'm really loving it! It cost ~USD 700 (for the Wifi + 3G version w/stylus). I have to say it's the perfect size and the screen resolution is perfect for browsing! I would say it's worth the USD 700 that I paid for. Now I just have to get a 3G data in China...
I'd say it is worth it. I rarely use my laptop now because I enjoy using my tablet for browsing, email, etc. I did buy the Scribe pen but I actually rarely use it. Maybe if there was more functionality for it (handwriting recognition, more app support) I would use it more. Still feels decently polished although I do miss Honeycomb and being able to download those true tablet apps.
I personally think, that if HTC engineered their Flyer tablet with Stantum display it would be a Killer device, a game changer. Seriously - a resistive display, that supports 10-finger multitouch is awesome. Notes, drawing, photo editing, CAD software on small screens, and, if it was used in a smartphone - imagine using your phone in winter without getting your gloves of. Hm, dreams, dreams...

If the performance of the resistive is anything like the old WM phones, then it wouldn't be an improvement. If you want a resistive screen android tablet, there are plenty of Chinese mid-tablets out there.
10 point touch sounds interesting, but why? Some of the app gestures requiring three finger touch is confusing enough.
Well guys i have been using this TP for about 2 weeks (I bought the 32GB with touchstone at the firesale price) and I must say its bad ass! Personally I think its a nice looking tablet and it feels good in the hand. It may not be the lightest but I personally dont really notice it " fituging my hand". Now let me say I have been using "Palm" for years and think WebOS is by far the best OS with the worst people behind it... but I digress. After the original Pri and all the promises "Palm" made about new hardware just to keep the loyal customers waiting I dropped them. I am now a loyal android user and am using my romed Epic 4g with no problems (waiting for that Galaxy S 2 to drop).
So after putting my TP to 1.5ghz this thing is an amazing tablet and as far as specs go there is not many duel care 1.5ghz 1gb or ram having tablets out there. Plus the GPU is pretty amazing (and I dont think we have even started to utilize it yet). So for 150 bucks I think I got a good deal. If they where to put honeycomb on it this thing would rock (not that I like HC more the WebOS but all the apps really make it worthwhile). Now my favorite thing by far is the Touchstone, I fell in love with it with the Pri and missed it with every phone since. Why no one else has "copied" it is beyond me (yea there is Power matt but its not even close). It is amazing, not only does it "look cool" but its nice to just set the phone/tablet down and not have to find cords to hook up. The feel of tablet of smooth and I really like it.. even better then the Xoom or Ipad2 (yes I have had both). But one of the best features is the "Beats Audio" speakers. This tablet really sounds amazing compared to any other tablet.

There are a handfull of tablets with android around but there's only one with WebOs. Isn't that unique. Make those hours count on something special, not on something

I also managed to get a stupidly cheap touchpad and I have to say, I really don't know why webOS has been taking such a beating. Ok, the app support is very limited but I really like it, ok i've OC'd and tweaked a little but im more than happy with its performance. The only thing that I am missing is VNC and yes I know there is a VNC app in preware but it doesnt work on the touchpad, certainly not without a hardware keyboard anyway.
There are several website sites that just don't work on any of the android browsers I've tried but the touchpad handles them flawlessly. I have skype video which I can't get on Android either.
I'll be keeping webOS unless two things happen...
1) Android is available as a dual boot solution
2) There is no performance loss running Android

I have a nook color that I ported to android. Yes, I understand that it does not even come close to the hardware in the touchpad but webOS is so much more fluid than gingerbread.
I really do miss all the available apps for android but also really like how webOS handles certain things, very easy to learn. Might have to hold out converting my touchpad over until they get honeycomb.
Wish some devs would put their effort into making apps for the touchpad. With so many sold, there is a good market there. I am willing to pay for apps, I think many people are, but really, there are no good ones right now.
Things the touchpad needs:
FTP client
Be able to connect to ad hoc networks (for tethering) my rooted OG droid only supports ad hoc for tether
Better Browser (firefox!) i'd even settle for an xscope or dolphin port! The browser is surprisingly severely lacking
There are so many more apps I could use but would settle for the above.
This probably isn't the right sub-forum, but I kind of agree. I also have a Nook Color with CM7 and am loving the slickness WebOS. The lack of apps is disappointing, but on the other hand a lot of Android apps are nothing impressive. I'm really not sure if I would put Android on the Touchpad if/when it's easily available (of course, I already have two other Android devices at home).
Like the above, ad hoc networking, some browser options or plugins, and personally a better PDF reader would be great (ezPDF on Android is nice), along with others. Hopefully since the market has grown from the fire sale, some devs will write or port more apps.

There are far too many pointless apps out there both in the android market place and the store for that "i-thingy" that people are always harping on about
My needs are simple...
1) A web browser that works and has decent flash support - Check
2) Skype Video - Check
3) SSH Client - Check
4) VNC Client - FAIL
5) Occasional HD video playing (Kinda check)
I'm really hoping that a proper VNC client is developed, then I can forget about android.

I agree with you guys that WebOs isn't that bad... However, I am going to port Android on mine for sure. The problem is the severe lack of apps. Developers are not going to want to develop for it since the Touchpads are dead. Yes they sold a crap ton of them in a matter of days but who wants to develop for an Os that will most likely be dead in a matter of years.
Something I would really like to see is a split keyboard like Thumb Keyboard or Swifkey Tablet. And Ad-Hoc Support would be nice too.
That's just my 2 cents.
Well my problem is that the SSL web login for my university wifi doesn't even work on the touchpad, which pretty much deem the tablet useless.

I have to say I agree with the OP in some sense. I'm an avid Android fan and I was once an avid windows mobile fan. WebOS seems like the marrying of Android, with its openness, and iOS, with its idiot proofness. I am excited about a dual boot but to be honest i won't see myself using android much on this tablet. I'm liking webOS more and more everyday.
i would actually want webOS with a sort of android app emulator if the apps is what you're after....otherwise i'm pretty happy with it, just wish someone would optimise the OS cuz i'm sure there's a lot of room for improvement

I couldn't agree more, with the Touchpad updated to 3.0.2, overclocked to 1.8ghz on both cores and all the tweaks installed, it's a pretty good OS. I was looking ofrward to Android, now I think I'll stick with WebOS, or at most Dual-Boot, though as we've seen before, Android 2.3 doesn't work that fantastically on a tablet anyway...

Did you load preware and overclock that helps smooth out the os quite a bit

For me the 1990's era stock browser is the only major problem in the otherwise outstanding OS. I don't understand the logic of using such a basic featureless browser for such a critical aspect of the device.

Yep. The awful browser and no alternatives is what makes webOS useless for me. Love the concept of the OS, but damn is it buggy. Have to reboot mine twice a day because the sound stops working. Haven't rebooted my iPad in over 3 months.

Tried this with my USB Host cable I have for my Xoom and it doesn't work. It does however work beautifully on my Xoom .
Is there something I have to load on the Touchpad for it to Work?

I don't understand how people are saying the browser is awful? Maybe I just haven't experienced the issues people are having. It loads fast, it renders the internet just as a desktop would, flash works flawlessly. This is by far the best web browsing experience i've ever had. The only other thing i would want is tabs and a search function. I know advanced browser has this but advanced browser is super buggy.
I think webos can be a real competitor to the ipad, but many of the blogs I've watched seem to downplay the touchpad. I think a lot of people fear the touchpad is taking all the attention away from other tablets and gadgets. I've seen lots of hope with the Amazon tablet, but if HP comes back with another round of $99 touchpads all other tablets will be sitting on their butts.
It cannot be said enough, webOS is the most complete and most functional multitasking mobile OS out there. My wife has been a webOS fan and we just got 2 Touchpads and we love them, so do our kids. The ONLY thing missing are some key apps (Netflix, Googles) or this pad would be unbeatable which it almost is right now.

Ive posted about it elsewhere so I'll make it short. Doesn't render pages right. Glitches text rendering sometimes. No background downloading in background cards. Multiple cards open leads to the browser never re-sharpening the text when switching between them occasionally (25% of the time prob) until you close the card and reopen a new one. No search in page. Barely any customization. Slower than my Epic4g and iPad 1 at rendering and downloading webpages.
Flash works alright though. I don't really get what there is to like about the browser. It would be awesome if I didn't have an iPad or android phone to compare it to I guess.
I just made a video. Loading engadget. Single core 800mhz Ipad 1 on the left, Dual core 1.5ghz overclocked Touchpad on the right. iPad is using Safari and loading with ads and all and Touchpad has flash OFF and is using an ad blocker.

Like many of you I picked up an Evo View last week during the "pretty good" sales. Have it sitting on my table burning a whole in my brain wondering whether I should keep or sell (as new) before I crack into it. I also recently received an Acer A100 which is also new. I love the Flyer but quickly see that the development is not very popular. I appreciate the work being put into it, but am considering selling both to pickup a Galaxy Tab 7 plus (which I know has quite the lack of development also, for now)
Any thoughts from those who currently own a View. My main concern is using it when I travel on WiFi, 99% movies, with some occasional gaming and internet use. My SGS2 handles pretty much everything else. Your thoughts are appreciated.
I grabed a few Kindle Fires and then thought I missed the Sale on the HTC EVO View 4G for 230 give or take and paid 300 for it.
I see the sales coming and going and kinda want to kick myself for ordering, but mine is brand new.
Keep in mind there are many of these suckers in peoples hands and that hopefully means more interest in the dev community. I also have read that a legit honeycomb update is coming. Im happy with the device as is, but I also have an iPad 2 as my main tablet.
I am in a some what similar circumstance, making that decision myself on what way to go. First I made a decision that I needed to be iThing and Android compatible to give myself the best of both worlds, primarily software that works on one vs. the other, and be able to take advantage of free software, etc. on both sides of the fence. For the Apple side of things, I have an iPad and iPod, big and small, no medium choice in the apple line.
For Android, I have a phone, an A500, a Flyer, and a View. The intent was to give the Flyer to my GF for a Christmas present, and keep the View for myself. Then the debate would be whether the A500 10.1" tablet gets more use, or the 7" View, and do I need both.
I chose the Flyer and View because they are comparable spec wise to anything else in the 7" line, are selling now for a competitive price, and have the pen feature other ones don't have, giving it a leg up. My GF is an English teacher and will probably use the pen feature.
I was on the verge of rooting her Flyer, and was wondering if I should even bother for her purposes.

I bought a View, then thought they weren't going to ship it, so I bought a second one, and ended up with two Views. I am willing to deal on the second one
Thanks for the responses so far. I am looking for a device to replace my OG Galaxy Tab. I still like it but looking to mess with something else. I don't really need more than one tablet, just sold a few phones and 3 other tablets. Had to slim down the arsenal. If I can get good video playback and some occasional gaming done, I just may crack open the View. Hard to decide though, I really want a Galaxy 7+, but they are still $400 and nearly scarce. Samsung hasn't really gotten any traction on them yet.
For video playback I use rockplayer or mvideoplayer.
Audio I just make sure it's either mp3 or wma and most times they play in the native music player.
As far as honeycomb or ics coming out I'm personally just waiting until htc releases (if they do) something off those builds. Since the kernel source is available I am at least happy that I can modify it a bit more than just the rom.
In the end though only you can decide what you really want in a device. I sold my first view because I was getting tired of not having a kernel source and bought my second one because I really didn't want any other tablet.
It's your preference but the flyer/view tablets are very well capable of most anything you can throw at it. Shoot, I even make phone calls from my view (using skype or grooveip depending on video or not) using my ps3 bluetooth headset. Once you change the bluetooth profile in the build.prop there's no reason why you can't use most bluetooth headsets or devices (keyboards). Good luck on your decision though.
I purchased the View because I wanted a pen based system to use more in the work environment. We just opened our campus up to Wifi and expanded the security rules to allow personal tablets to connect to it. I also added the $19.99/mo. Sprint Tablet plan for those times that I am out of range.
After playing with the tablet for a day now I am not trilled because the pen integration is limited with GB. I hope we get HC on the view so that the pen integration is expanded. I was able to purchase an Android notepad app that worked with the pen so I have more solutions than the stock notepad.
Do. Know if there is going to be HC for the View?
I also have an iPad which for now will remain my primary non-work device and I remain optimistic that through the developers on this site we can get he View better.
I was thinking of sending the fire back for the flyer/view, the HTC has a leg up on almost everything, however I am stuck on a few key features that the fire has, and I would like to know if there is some sort of port, or if HTC built these things in..
The fire has updates for it every few months so far, so its live, since the HTC flyer/view have been cancled, will they get updates??
The flyer/view have the "book sharing" built in, this is a nice book club feature that I like.
and the amazon silk browser has the reader view, BIG winner in my book... any way to do this on the HTC device?
I just want a handy device to read and watch some shows, prime is no big deal since they dont have what I want to see anyway, and I have Netflix anyway... I should also mention that I have a Galaxy note, so I dont "NEED" cameras or anything like that. I just need a nice responsive 7" tablet for reading/web/youtube/Netflix with a bright clear screen..

I'm not all that familiar with the other features you mentioned (book share and reader view), but as far as updates, I've found myself not needing or particularly wanting firmware updates for my Flyer. This is coming from a person who constantly changes the ROM on his HTC Desire Z phone to get better performance and features. I have never even bothered to put a custom ROM on my Flyer, the stock ROM just runs so smoothly, and has all the features I need.
I did do the upgrade from Gingerbread to Honeycomb. It added some more tablet-friendly interface layout, bit more eye candy, and much better pen support. It runs just as smoothly as GB. Really more of a personal preference, either GB or HC run rather nicely (fast and smooth).
I haven't found myself wanting anymore out of my Flyer. The performance is great, and I haven't had any significant bugs to speak of. There does seem to be a issue with GPS maintaining lock in HC (but I never use my Flyer for navigation). But of course, that isn't even an option on the Fire, anyway.
I haven't personally had a chance to compare side-by-side. But I believe the Flyer is more responsive (clock speed matters more than dual cores, for most tasks) and has a better screen than the Flyer. What you do get in the Flyer (in addition to the Prime-specific features you mentioned) is probably better support from 3rd party accessory manufacturers, as the Fire already has a healthy customer base, while the Flyer really doesn't have much to speak of.

The updates you're talking about with the Fire are overwhelmingly updates to Amazon's proprietary software, not the underlying version of Android. The updates the Flyer/View have received included proprietary changes, but they're accompanied with updates to the Android software. So it's difficult to compare the updates of the two since the nature of each are different. That said, the Flyer/View already has far more functionality than the Fire ever will do to its hardware and access to the Google Play Store (still sounds weird to say that instead of Android Market). No amount of updates to the Fire will ever get it to level of things the Flyer/View can do. The Flyer/View may or may not see any more official updates (no one here knows for sure), but it's already on a higher level than the Fire as it currently stands.
I assume with book sharing you're referring to the lending of Kindle books. You cannot do this with the View/Flyer with Kindle books you have purchased from Amazon. It's a feature exclusive to Kindle devices. You can install the Kindle app on the View/Flyer and have full access to all of your books, but you can't lend/borrow and you don't have access to Prime library.
By "reader view," are you implying that the webpage is reformatted to allow you to more easily read the text? If so, there are ways of doing this on the Flyer/View. It may require a different browser or app, but it can be done.
Overall, the Flyer/View is a more well-rounded device than the Fire from a hardware point of view with GPS, cameras, and optional cellular connectivity (depending on the model). The quality of the screens are both good, and both devices feel great in the hand (although I like the feel of my View better). The View is better from an Android point of view with full access to the suite of Google Apps (Gmail, Voice, Maps, Play Store, etc.), something that the Fire does not have (quite possibly the biggest software-related point in my opinion). On the other hand, if you're heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem, and your major concern is reading (including the lending/borrowing of books and accessing the Prime library), the Fire offers more options direct from Amazon. If you're into custom ROMs, the Fire also has a much bigger developer community with a lot more support. But as far as an all-around device for "reading/web/youtube/Netflix with a bright clear screen," the Flyer/View is by far the better device in my opinion.
For me, the answer was simple - a regular Kindle e-ink reader for books (including lending/borrowing and the Prime library) since it's far easier on the eyes anyway and can be read outside, and the View for everything else (plus I can read almost all of my Kindle stuff on the View if I don't have my Kindle close by). The incredibly low prices on both devices make owning both a viable option for many that want the best of both worlds.

The screen itself should be about the same between the Fire and the View.
I was getting ready to get a Fire, then considered a Nook Tablet, then a View. Here are the main advantages of the View over the Fire:
-View has physical volume up/down buttons
-View has a microphone
-View has 2 cameras.
-View has 32GB of storage and a micro-SD slot for up to 32GB more.
-View has GPS
That's off the top of my head.
If the Fire does a good job for you with books and videos, you won't really gain anything by switching to the View.
If you want a tablet that is much more capable and runs a stock Android go for the View.

A major point that I overlooked in my post. As for the Flyer, it comes in both 16GB and 32GB varieties with the 16GB version being far more prevalent in my experience. Both have expandable storage as well.

When you're reading a book, there is a little bubble at the bottom. When you press on the bubble, it takes you into a conversation list with other people that are reading the book. Much like a book club. I think that is a neat feature.

So the htc screen wont be much better? I know the duo core thing is not a big deal, the hitch runs fine from the videos I've seen. Any word on ICS? One last thing.. can you take pretty good notes on the flyer? Is it like the galaxy note?

The screen difference will be marginal at best.
No official word on ICS.
Yes, the Flyer/View use the same basic technology (albeit from different companies I believe, meaning the Note stylus won't work with the Flyer/View), so note taking is very similar if you have the Scribe. I also had a Note for awhile and found the View to be more precise in that regard.
Wow really.. I think my note is pretty accurate, so the flyer must be nice! I'm going to best buy in hopes of finding a demo.. or maybe sprint..

They've been discontinued at both Best Buy and Sprint I believe, so it might be difficult to track down any display models in a store, especially that have a Scribe sitting there to use with it.
I've had other people contend that the Note is more precise, but I found the View to be when I had both devices. So chances are, that really means that they're both pretty similar when it comes to accuracy.

It may not be in the Kindle app, but it is there in the stock HTC Reader app which I understand is powered by Kobo. I have not used it because all of my ebooks are from non-drm epub sources so while the HTC Reader displays those books perfectly, it does not allow me to use the share option.
Anyway to read the kindle books on the kobo app? Reason I ask is that kobo has a nicer UI.
I did find a demo at the sprint store, I liked it and found the screen to he a bit more vivid, I wish I would have had the time to really check out, unfortunately we were on a way to a movie, so I had maybe 30seconds with it. Can anyone cement on the speakers, some of you have had the fire so maybe you can give me an idea of the sound quality of the htc vs the fire? I think I'm gonna buy the HTC, I just need a little push lol..

Just to throw my thoughts in:
I am a college student and I have an internship in an office. I bought the flyer at the beginning of this semester to take notes and other various things at my job. I have used it for a few months now, and I can say that I don't even carry a notebook any more. It has also fully replaced my netbook. I have read several books for class on it, and it has worked well as far as that goes. The speakers are pretty good quality, I find them acceptable for Skype calls and YouTube videos.

the flyer/view has basically one of the greatest displays for reading for its highest pixel density of android tablets (ipad 3 has a much higher resolution tho), and great color production for things other than reading. i love my htc flyer, and i would recommend it, the reading experience is still fantastic even if it lacks fire features, because htc adds their own (such as book sharing, as you mentioned)!

I'm in the same boat, torn between fire and flyer.
For me the flyer was an extra $40, so is $40 worth:
bluetooth
2 cameras
512meg extra ram
8gb extra storage
microSD card reader
a microphone...
Normally I say, yes, of course it is, however of those, the only one that actually matters to me... might be the microSD card reader and extra storage, seeing as the fire only ships with 8GB.
Why are those other features not important to me? Because wherever I have my tablet to use, I will 100% of that time have my iPhone 4 in my pocket which has 2 cameras, 32GB storage, a microphone, etc. If I want to take a picture, i'll certainly use my phone before my tablet, same with skip or voice notes, or voip for that matter. If I had a stupid phone, of course I go with the flyer, but with an iPhone, maybe I stick with the kindle fire...
Another consideration is rom updates, yes flyer is popular, however each rom needs to support all that extra hardware, and often one piece either uses an older/supported version of android, or one piece just doesn't work. For example bluetooth for voip, or the hardware buttons of the flyer. With the Kindle it doesn't have much extra hardware, so not much else to support, therefore the rom updates that come out are more "clean" in my view.
I'm forcing myself to use both for a few days this week and make up my mind. The stylus could turn the tide to the flyer though...

You are 100% in my boat! Lol the flyer will cost me about $50 more, and you and I have the same train of thought. I have my galaxy note for EVERYTHING, and with me, my gnote is almost as big as the tablets of topic! Lol
I found the speed to be more or less on par with these two tablets. And the htc reader app is a joke, the fire has a better "reading" atmosphere with the ability to change font and word spacing, and the silk browser reader view is a BIG home run.. I still can't shake the feeling I should just get the flyer.. lol

The Kindle books are DRM-protected, so unless you want to find a way around that (something we can't discuss on these forums), you have to use the Kindle app for Kindle books.
The Flyer/View have pretty darn good speakers for the size of the tablet. I can't think of a time when I wasn't more than satisfied with them.

You don't have to use the HTC Reader app (although you can adjust the size of the text in the app). There are several different e-reader apps in the Play store that let you adjust font and spacing (and I know the Kindle app will at least let you adjust the font). But the biggest advantage to using the HTC Reader is that it has full integration with the Scribe pen. On Honeycomb, you can use the Scribe with any app, but you'll only be able to use some of the advanced functions of the pen with apps that are optimized for it.
You're definitely right about the Fire having a better "reading atmosphere" though. That's its primary purpose (along with watching video), so Amazon has put a lot of significant thought and design into it. The Flyer/View is very much a multi-purpose device, with the focus spread throughout the device instead of on just a couple areas like the Fire. That's why for people who want a device that is primarily going to be a reading/video device with most of the content coming from Amazon, the Fire is definitely a great option. But for those who want more than that, the Flyer/View offers many more options.

Dude, demonoid has all the books u need, the flyer reader app supports the pens and its unbeatable bybany other tablet, om taking notes all the tome, signing documents etc
