Hi All,
First of all, I am not opening this thread because I did not do my homework. I did.
I have tried searching on Internet but seems there isn't really a solution yet. A lot of people recommend Download All Files, Blackmoon etc... but the real issue here is that from Gmail 2.3.5 onwards, there is NOT even a Preview button for the .zip attachment so non of those apps will work. It means, there no button at all for you to 'act' on the .zip attachment, you just see the filename with a paper clip, no Preview, no Info, no Download, no option from the menu etc.
I would appreciate if there is any other working methods besides a third party email client.
Thanks.
Bert
No "working method" that I'm aware of. I use K9 Mail with GMail. Problem solved.
Edit to add - You could always access GMail thru a browser rather than the ****ty app & view/save your attachments that way. I just tested this with Firefox 9 & it works fine. So there's two options for you.
I use it manually via firefox browser or opera mobile

Hello
I can't seem to access my hotmail account through my browser...when i put in the address i end up with a blank screen and if the address area there is a locked sign...i have tried everything i know like clearing the cache and cookies but no joy. Anyone have any ideas please!
Thank you

I´ve the same problem.
Somebody knows how solve it??
thanks!!!
Yep, I can confirm this happens on default browser, skyfire and dolphin.
Works in Opera mini though, could try it if you want hotmail to work in browser
I still don't understand why you would access hotmail through the browser as your preferred method?? Can someone explain the benefits of this?
Microsoft hints you move to Windows Phone
And some app that works with hotmail??
Thanks

"Opera Mini" is the browser app that works
@im_iceman: I don't know, you could be checking hotmail on someone else's phone?
It doesnt work for me on any browser and i use this as preferred method cuz apps just drain the battery so badly
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
The standard email app works with hotmail and so does k9... And if you want to save battery just set the sync frequency to never and then just update it when you go into it to read your email.. Having said that, I don't have a problem with k9 draining battery...

I have the same problem using the stock browser but when i use opera mini hotmail works like a charm xD

There's a lot to be said for Opera Mini. I've used it on every phone I've had since my nameless second-hand Motorola clamshell ; -)

Shangmail is not bad either. Real push email too.and much more simple
Gunawan, GN Mutimedia & X10i
The Solution is very easy guys:
1. while on the browser go to settings(press menu ---then More----settings)
2. in settings scroll down to Privacy settings.
3. then clear cache ,if you want clear history
4. clear all cookie data
5. clear form data and if you want clear passwords as well
reboot the phone and trust me this should resolve it .It happened to me 10 times and every time this works...post back if it works for you
Hi guys,
let me give you quick background..I tried to upgrade to froyo yesterday twice using these 2 methods.
1) changed back to stock 2.1 and then used kies to pull froyo (total stock)
and
2) downloaded KA7 (deodexed) from vibrant bible here
however in both cases I am having email notification alert bug. Whenever I get new email, it doesn't play notification sound. I have verified it's not set on silent, and proper melody is selected under sounds->notifications for email alert. Both in general volume settings AND also under email accounts settings.
Is this bug in this release of Froyo?
Please advice as it's driving me nuts as email is high priority for me.
thank you in advance!

i believe its just like that for froyo. Im on bionix v right now and for the stock email app it does the same thing no sound notification. Just setup the email app to vibrate, that helped me. I still dont get sound notification for the stock email app but it does vibrate which helps. Also gmail app works just fine, sound notification etc. Hope this helps!
dang...what kind job samsung did after all these months!!!
thank you--Yep vibrate works but sound notification is many times better!
I might just go back to other rom...very sad!
any fixes for this?

Problem does not exist on Flagship V3, although that could be due to the build.prop setting the defaults for 6 sound types.
Edit.
Set as below, using the names of sounds you have on your phone.
ro.config.ringtone=Life.ogg
ro.config.notification_sound=VideoRecord.ogg
ro.config.mms_sound=Bound.ogg
ro.config.email_sound=Pure.ogg
ro.config.calendar_sound=Waltz.ogg
ro.config.alarm_alert=Alarm_Classic.ogg

Would love to use the tab email client, but i believe it still has problems with Exchange email accounts. I need exchange for work.
I am on Flagship V3 and my gmail makes a sound.... could you be more clear, which email app?
yahoo also makes a sound for me.
I have an exchange email account set up. Not gmail. So I don't know why some people are experiencing this and others are not. Again mine works perfect. I get a notification sound when an email comes in. I do use zedge and use it to pick the notification sound. Don't know if that's making the difference though.

I am using stock Email app. Now couple of you said you used Email client from galaxy tab and from some other version/rom?
Can you please provide step by step on how to do that? and where to get Email.apk for it exactly?
thank you for all replies...I really hate froyo without email sound.

The Galaxy Tab email app has issues and is not 100% stable with all email account types. I just copied over the Froyo email app that I had on Nero 4.1 and Axura. This is the true Gingerbread Email app and works just fine on Bionix-V also. Give it a try from the link below and let me know if you have any problems figuring out has to install it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910857
When installing using adb command this is what I get....
C:\android\platform-tools>adb install C:\Email.apk
2247 KB/s (1461545 bytes in 0.635s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Email.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
C:\android\platform-tools>
When installing from the phone after Email.apk transferred over to the phone. it says....Application not installed.
I can't think of 3rd method.
Another question, when I copy any apk file to /system/app folder, does that mean it's installed on the phone? or it still needs to be installed?
sorry for newbee question as I am learning these stuff!!
thank you
Use root explorer and move it to the folder. You can't install this apk.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
For some reason older version of root explorer wasn't deleting and copying new email.apk you provided. After using other root explorer, all went smooth.
Now I get sound notification and email icon is gray color.
I wonder if there are any other bugs in KA7 rom.
Thank you so much everyone!

Really liking the ROM so far. Just one thing while removing the "Samsung Bloatware" I wish there was a way to re-install these as I really like the stock samsung email app. In my opinion it is far superior to the Gmail app as it allows you to pinch and zoom the email.
Does anyone know if there is a place to install this???
Thanks a lot!
In the Cognition thread, there is all the info you need. The link to all removed apps was provided, and you can just download and install what you need. I've included the info below for your reference. Note you need to copy the apk's to /system/app via Root Explorer or similar...you can't install them as normal apk's or they won't work. Just move them to the right place and reboot the phone.
Removed Apps:
(copy apk's /system/app, don't try to install them normally, it won't work)

Awesome, I don't know how I missed this. I re-installed the digital clock! I still don't know what file to add to system/app for the email app to function properly since it says I need to register social hub. So using common sense, I installed the social hub apk but still the same cycle I mentioned earlier. Also does anyone know what the news and weather apk is called??? Thanks again! Happy Independance Day to my neighbours to the south!

Usually DG has his own app in the ROM and on the device that allows you to check off and download which Samsung Apps you want. Its a nice feature. Sort of like an onboard Kitchen.
is if there was a facebook app (3rd party alternative) for the galaxy tab?
it seems to be gone from the market.
Friend Me for Facebook is a great app for tablets
FriendCaster Tab for Facebook is also a great app, but it is still Beta and crashes a lot.
Personally I'm FriendCaster Tab for now and it has a lot of nice features
I have no problem just using the full FB website on my Tab.
Same as tried friendcaste and friend me but not complete so just use the web

Great post! Never even thought about using the web. Will try that
No matter what you use, the full site, the mobile site, or the sideloaded phone app...it is near impossible to tag people properly (just one complaint). In the full site you click a pic and it opens in that theater/lightbox popup thingy over the page, and if you click on the pic to tag, the tagging prompt opens but then when you click in it to start typing a name, it just goes away and you have to start again. You can never really get it. And I don't think the app lets you tag at all.
I am still in utter disbelief that there is no official Android tablet Facebook app. I mean, what's the holdup? Isn't this at the top of someone's (Facebook and/or Google/Android) to-do list?? I just don't understand.....it's been months now...

uhh, It should be pointed out that there is no official Facebook app for the iPad either.
I paid for friendcaster and loved it, I even used it on my phone over the official Facebook app but the last update ruined it for me on both devices. The news feed will leave stuff out and now on my tab I can't connect it to my contacts. I also have heywire texting app and it would pull the pictures from the contacts so I could see a pic of the person I am texting instead of just a name. Also when I click a photo someone posted it will load a completely different photo from the album.
I hope it gets work out in a new update, I finally paid for the app and less than a week later the update hit so for now I just go to the site.

Two ways to do this...
1. With stock browser, everytime you open it you have to change the browser settings to desktop mode. This is handled in other forums and is really a pain in the butt because the settings don't stick.
2. Download for free one of the other browsers from the market, I use dolphin for pad. In the settings you can have it permanently set to desktop mode. This allows for the chat to show up on the website as if you were on a computer.
I personally use the website to check my stuff and use one of two free apps for chatting. Either go chat or the friendcaster chat.

So I used to run the desktop ua mod and I could see the chat in the stock browser. My problem, however, is that after typing I am unable to send the message. Pressing enter just clears out the text and nothing seems to get sent.
Same thing when I try dolphin or opera

Bump! (so as not to start another thread in the Nex 7 forum)
I have a BT keyboard and it's really annoying to have to press the button each time, while holding a tiny kb in your hands. Thought it may be linked to the setting in the desktop website and enabled it there, but still no go.
Tried GoChat for Fb but wasn't impressed (main reason being its lack of full history support).
Thiking there migh be a way to mod the app somehow..
Thanks!

I guess it's something Facebook should fix in its app. However you could try imo.im app? It supports Facebook among others.
