Eh... Apple became quite a patent troll as of late.
That's what I was saying yesterday. My brother works for the patent office (approving patents) and he said that Apple's lawyers always pissed at his coworkers for approving patents to other cell phone manufacturers.
Like they are the only ones that deserve to have patents in the cellphone game. They are so egotistical and think they are the only ones coming up with ideas.
Its a shame but the only way to beat apple moving foward is to play the same game..Google is no slouch when it comes to ips ..either is Motorola or other android oems ..they should patent thr **** out of every functionality they come up with or currently employ and return the favor to apple ..just like the drop down notification bar etc..for god sakes apple tried patenting the shape of a phone .. just imagine iPhone sheep crying over the delayed release of the ip5

But couldn't one argue that the notification bar is a specific Android design feature and is a trademark of Android devices, a good enough lawyer can argue anything, now I don't know the specifics on trademark law so maybe more is needed

I think LevelUp Studio who makes Beautiful Widgets should file a claim how the time and weather Widget on that iPhone looks EXACTLY like the 4x1 Beautiful weather (if its true, which I doubt) I'm thinkin they just copy/ paste from a beautiful widgets screenshot.

The interesting thing this time is that they are actually claiming that Android itself infringes on their patent, and they have already previously won against HTC in court. HTC was able to "work around" the issue to avoid the infringement, but they still technically lost in court and were originally found to be infringing on Apple's patents.
My point is, if they are able to seal a victory against HTC in court again, this time they can use the ruling against other Android manufacturers.. This case could turn out to be a very in important one for Android to win.
They're crying because of the IDC report that is putting Windows Phones ahead of them in worldwide market share by 2016. It's like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum when they get bad news. Might as well go after HTC since they made the modifications last time.

Anytime someone tries to tell you that free-market capitalism leads to monopolies, use Apple as an example against that.
Apple is becoming a monopoly because governments and their courts are allowing them to. These cases should be thrown out of court, but I'm guessing Apple has influential connections and allies.

I agree. I bet the judges have iPhones and ipads and macs. They probably pay them off with free products for life if they find in their favor. Apple could find a way to win as a lot of htc devices still infringe patents such as our rezounds, EVO 3d, shift, just to name a few

I understand defending your business, and I'm not against litigation by any stretch, but the calls for Google to "destroy" Apple is what I was talking about.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I agree.
With this type of bulls... going on, I'll never buy any of their products again. They've actually gotten worse over the last few years in multiple ways - the patent wars are just one aspect. They've been alienating long time users by dumbing down not only their computer OS, but other products. In the past you could get several years additional use out of a their products vs competitors, but now they're making them un-upgradeable.
It even goes beyond the militant behaviour like this with the Galaxy Nexus, even to the point of being totally petty. I tried selling a Asus Netbook with their OS installed on eBay, just to see if the police stories were true - they had the listing removed in less than 24 hours. :angel:
They're making MS look cool.

Apple is doing it because they know that in the long run they will be outdone by both the Android software and hardware, in my opinion that has already happened but they know that eventually all the Apple fan boys and girls will realize this and jump ship so rather than stay ahead of the curve they avoid the curve all together by playing these games.

They use to have a some good business strategies and were a respectable company. Now they have resorted to hide behind laws instead of operating out in the open. Plus why sue Samsung or even get them involved? Don't they make Apple's processors? Sounds like Apple bought Lucy Koh. Apple should be sued for not being innovative and for being a bad sport. So they might be losing in the mobile races, wow big shocker with the same phone being released year after year, but home computers are still way to stay in the game. I for one think this move will result in negative PR for Apple and hurt sales in the long run. A company can't operate like cowards and no one notice.

However this was a counterclaim against a specific lawsuit that Apple filed against HTC. Basically it's a counterclaim for the court to "take back" what they first said. If indeed the article is correct about it being a counter claim, that is.

I don't take issue with what HTC is doing. I just find it hilarious how XDA users find it to be acceptable that HTC is responding with a lawsuit, seeing as a lawsuit started this whole thing.
I note with interest the top post of this page; "i hope Android takes over iOS".
So, we want competition, but we want the competition to be gone. We don't want Apple fighting the battle with lawsuits, we want the battle to be fought with innovation and good ideas, but when HTC fights with lawsuits, we applaud them as though it's some sort of "revenge". We demonize iOS but fail to realize we wouldn't have Android the way it is without Apple.

You seem to forget most of us here were affected by Apple's ridiculous injunction, mid-purchase. So yeah, when they're getting theirs, don't sue me for smiling about it.
I'm hoping to see some end to it .vs this never ending litigation.
I want to see what will be said/addressed here about this Patent war:

That's great and all. I'm glad that you feel a bit of vengence for a slight delay in getting your device.
You'll just have to excuse me if I don't take you seriously if one minute you're happy about litigation when it's against Apple but the next minute when it's against HTC you're all up in arms about patent litigation.

So, we want competition, but we want the competition to be gone. We don't want Apple fighting the battle with lawsuits, we want the battle to be fought with innovation and good ideas, but when HTC fights with lawsuits, we applaud them as though it's some sort of "revenge". We demonize iOS but fail to realize we wouldn't have Android the way it is without Apple.

Am I the only one who sees how ridiculous this is? Probably, I tend to get filed away as an Apple fanboy though, you watch, someone will say that about this post.
I suppose in the average XDA user's mind, we're all soldiers in some epic war, and we need to constantly "rattle the troops" as if we're trying to keep up morale against the big bad Apple.
When in reality, you're just some guy that bought an Android device and you happen to like Android enough that you'll root your phone and flash a different ROM.
