Updated my Mini to 2.1 from 4 days now-
Rooted using z4rot just to load setCPU.
2.1 in general is not so much different from 1.6, at least for normal user.
No significant performance improvement, no killer new functions. Just a "fine tuning work" in my opinion.
The bad come in just 2 areas.
1- Antenna reception.
Using 1.6 where I live I have a steady 3g network. Using 2.1 some time I discover that I'm under GPRS (i think the H icon mean GPRS, I'm voda so at least in Italy no EDGE network)
The antenna sensitivity is whorst than before...
2- Battery
Battery life is TERRIBLE using 1.6 I can go for an entire day (at least 8am-6pm)
Now in a few hours (4-5 not more) I have to recharge.
BT off, Wifi off.
Anyone experienced such decay of battery?
Can be the rooting process?
Any suggestion?
I have to try to switch off 3g but I dont like to use the slow GPRS so im not inclined in doing it1
H is HSPA which is 3G and others fast networks. If you had GPRS there would be G on your phone But i was confused too first time.
Battery seems same like before. I browse net, play games and listen music alot, so i need to recharge every night anyway. I'd guess some app eat it and maybe after some restarts it will settle. Synchronizing g-mail with phone ate alot of battery for me... but after a while its ok.
Ok, thanks for the H tips. So "H" is better that 3g!
Wow.
For battery life: yes I use google service so is always in sync
I think is one of the whorst design flaw of Android.
I like to be able to "open" sync in time I choose, for ex 10 min. in a windows of 30 min, ecc.
No software on the market do this automatically and ia polished way.
Can be set CPU causing more problem that the battery can save?
Disable Background data
Switch off Wifi Bt when not in need
then charge it when around 20% battaery
Doing this my battery life now is 2-3 days
Earlier with 1.6 it was 1 day max
wifi and bt are alredy off. background data?
turning that off is like to use a nokia of some years ago..
I depend on gmail etc.
intresting the tips of 20%, so you not charge at end of battery?
just when is arrived at 20%?
how it can have such effect?
with setcpu my battery now lasts for 20-24h, keeping minimal frequency at 122 and with ondemand scaling.
bt on for 2-3h, wifi on only when needed, sync always on but, the most important, only 2g. 3g uses a lot of your juice, use it only when needed. On 2g you still receiving emails and gtalk/tweets, and for an entire day. With 3g my battery lasts for 8h only.
ok, Ill give 2g a try.
Unfortunately Voda Italy has no EDGE at all...so if no 3g we are stuck using VERY VERY SLOW gprs.
i just use like 1:30 hrs of screen (on) AT 50%, i always use 2G network, background data conection like 2:00 Hrs, BT OFF, GPS OFF, WiFi OFF, All Syncronization OFF, some phone call (like 5 min per day), and i use set CPU to set the phone on demand between 122~600 MHz, with lucky i get 18 Hrs. of battery life...
Any advice?

I think 18 hours is Ok. Difference maybe is due to screen brightness; I use mine at 0%....
my battery last much longer with 2.1, i did a test, i put my phone in airplane mode overnight after charging it to 100%, unplugged the charger and went to sleep, checked it in the morning 8 hours later and it was STILL on 100%!
put it back to normal mode and the battery drains 1-2% per hour
Yeah, airplane mode is just the same with powering off, especially if you left it while you sleep dude...
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
I keep background data off and Data Traffic disabled and get about 1.5 days battery life. However, in Airplane mode, after 2.1 update, I have observed battery drains faster than 1.6.
^^ Use the Indian Firmware dude
its much better than flashed ones
Also charge phone when around 20% to get max battery life
Background data ON, Data Traffic enabled, live wallpaper (circuit board), Opera and mail one hour, BT 1 hour WIFI OFF, 1-2 hour call and sometime more.
24 to 32 hour Battery life.
I use Juice Defender and Set CPU.Battery charge when around 10 - 20 %.
^^Thats great
Calling for 30min decreased my battery life by 15-17% :O
My mini reboots every time i plug the in to charge, i saw there are some ppl with the same problem but i cant find a fix.
i did install the Nordic build.prop but repaired my phone when the update for my side came out. Can that be the problem?
I find the only thing now that really drains my Battery fast is playing games (Angry birds will drain my Battery in about 2-3 hours) otherwise.. if I don't play games my Battery lasts about 2 days. (up to a max of 3 days)
(I listen to about 3-4 hours of Music (over BT) each day, have Wifi on all the time I am at home, and use just a little bit of 3G when I am out (but I turn it off when its not needed)
Don't drain the battery to 0% this is really bad for Lithium battery's better to do top ups... and use USB to charge rather than the wall charger (lower charge rate will give you longer performance)
Run Launcher Pro Home screen replacement (I think its better than the stock one)
some software can really drain the battery fast, it tends to vary from person to person but I installed Nimbuzz and my battery went down like a sinking ship.
hope that helps..

When you say "Repaired your phone" you mean you put the build prop back to your old Kit code then Repaired with PC comp/SEUS? if you left the build.prop file as Nordic then you would probably still be on Nordic..
I ran nordic for a while and had no issues at all, then used Bin4ry's flash tool and a downloaded firmware to get my phone back to the correct Kit, I found it easier than playing with the build prop, its worth a try anyway..

Ok let me try explain .. i changed the build.prop to get the update but it did not work for me. So i downloaded Bin4ry's flashtool and software a flashed 2.1 on my phone.
I am on world generic (bought the phone in UK unbranded), when the update was availeble via SEUS i just plugged it in and did a repair, still with the same build.prop i edited.
I presumed it got flashed away with the repair i did
with the flash from Bin4ry an the repair from SEUS i got this reboot bug, so now i have no idea what to do next.
How do i know what kit i am on?

what Launcher are u using? i realize (maybe) that i replace the default SE Launcher APK with the Helix APK and seem to be a better battery life (because SE Launcher and Helix dont start together now).
so since i installed this new ROM CM7 I have noticed my battery usage is not so great when i look at the after 2 hours of use cell standby is 32% and phone idle is 24% android system 21% before it was always android system at the top so it just seems excessive use for phone idle and standby im not a expert tho any ideas???
well bro u can this
1. turn off wifi & data
2. use task killer to end tasks wen nt using phne
3. turn off auto synchronization
4. lower cpu freq
cm7 is not official so hv to face such prblms!!
yea i already do all that but oh well ill ust wait for the official release i actually like the ROM
67% ->goto bed->after 9hrs->still at 67% on stock v10f rooted
Im using CM7 too, and I've noticed that MAYBE there is a problem with wifi... Battery consumption is relatively normal, except for when the wifi is on, then it uses around 1% each 4-5 minutes, but with the phone idling all night it will use 2 or 3 %
Make sure you stop maps and music app after you use those
CM7 does have battery problems. You can try putting francisco's tweaks along with his sql patch. Will give you some kind of slight increase in battery performance.
You can use the calibration of the battery.
This is a post from the Xperia play forum about battery life. Since the new Xperia phones shares a common software maybe the Mini is affected too?

I'm gonna try and see if there is any difference for me on the sk17i.
good idea
nice, please let me know if there will be some difference for sk17i
thanks
well i tried it, and im sorry to say that ... but it doent change anything
Let me here give you and example of how bad is this phone battery situation is .
I have an HTC HD2 running android 2.3.3 and it has a 1GHZ processor which is the same with the xperia mini pro i bought , on the other hand the HD2 has 4.3" screen while the mini pro is only 3" so I already nticed after using the mini pro that its consuming so much battery than the HD2 but i wanted to be more specific so below are the details
HD2 Battery is 1230mA, xperia mini pro 1200mA ( Almost the same )
so I left both of them in idle for 8 hours ( wifi is on both have the same apps like facebook , google+, twitter, with the same update settings, )
the HD2 dropped from 82% to 71% in 8 hours in idle (Lost 11% )
The mini pro dropped from 100% to 50% in 8 hours in idle ( lost 50%)
for me this is a big gap between the two devices and to be honest i expected the HD2 to have a shorted battery life conidering its much more powerfull device and its 2 years old with the same 2 years old battery.
and i also noticed that during the test:
the HD2 never exceeded 10mAh consumption at all
the mini pro rarely went below 50mAh and the minimum was 26mAh
so i guess there is something that eats the battery during the idle time and it is taking alot of it comparing the two devices.
in fact when i bought the mini pro i wanted smaller device that will have a better battery life , but now its totally the opposit which make me confused.

Maybe very little actually.. but I'm gonna keep at manual.. no need to auto scan when I'm locked to one operator anyway.

I have been struggling a bit too with battery life. But with my current settings I have 21hours since charge and I'm on 65%. (so thats about 2.1% each hour) But thats not standby only. I have been using connectbot, some browsing, facebooking, whatsapp.
wifi on all the time and push enabled for activesyncemail, facebook+googleplus+twitter notifications, whatsapp messages and gmail.
I have disabled 3G and set my operator manually and most important of all I have unchecked the Allow wireless network-option in Location and security.
Did attach two screenshots showing the battery usage. I had to connect the USB-cable to take those (with ddms) so it did charge for a minute or so (same thing abit earlier so it shows a small charge period for 1-2 min)
A bit funny also that it shows battery gain in two places (which wasn't when I had the device USB-plugged) and also it looks like something has been keeping the phone awake while the screen hasn't been on.
But as you say it's not very often down to 10mAh as you get on the HD2. (3rd screenshot)

WOW i really envy you now , i should find whats making mine drop that fast in idle while yours can last that long while using it. i will check the settings you specified and report back the results
I attached a screenshot of the HD2 idle usage
Wifi
I've found that the culprit for mine is the Wifi.
I went from ~8 hours to 32,5 hours(is just about to turn itself off) by turning wifi off and on only when I used it.
This is with me watching a 40 min mkv show, and playing myth defence for 30 minutes and a little talk and sms and searching the market.
Wifi location function has been off from the start.
It's a bit weird because on the x10 mini it turned off wifi when the screen timed out and it held for about the same time, so maybe it's a "feature" they forgot to implement on this phone.
On normal usage mine lasts max of 2 days and thats pushing it. Normal use means I do browsing on it via wifi for maybe 10 minutes at a time per hour I guess. Will sync to wifi every 15 mins for 1 minute then off (via Green Power app). To help the thing, I am downclocked to 122Mhz on idle, max to 800+ on load via SetCPU, always on minimum brightness. Playing with autostarts too to disable apps to run and eat memory as well.
There is a higher capacity battery thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232065
But we're still waiting for somebody to go and test it.

Yes, this thing happens to me, 30% them immediately 1% and stays on for maybe 2-3 mins then dies (when in heavy use). I will recalibrate the battery stats when the phone is fully cycle charged (drained to dead, and charge on AC overnight). Hopefully should fix the issue.

yeah. it died again at about 10%, I did plug the charger and switched on the phone and it went directly to 10% again. Unplugged it and it died after a few mins. Did pull out the battery and inserted it again and now it started to behave correctly starting from 1%.
Another thing I have noticed is that when it reaches 100% it starts to discharge until it goes down to 95% then it charges again (quite normal behavior) but the phone still shows 100%. So it could be down at 95% when you disconnect it but it starts to tick down from 100%. I did check the kernel source and it was a comment there that it should show 100% while still charging in that mode.
It's possible to see the real value when using adb logcat|grep charge and also betterbatterystats shows the real value instead of the 100%.
thanks for the tip will try that. i get that same thing too, dies at 30% but when charged, it goes up at 30% immediately hehe... well, i didn't went to extent remove the battery though. what i do know is to have "Battery Monitor" sound some notification at 3425mA. At that rating, that just means I have some time to look for the cable and charge it.
Side by side, the st15i screen is significantly brighter than the st18i screen at the same brightness level. Though the st18i has a higher resolution, its colors appear more washed out, in a way though that is easy on the eyes. The st15i seems to be brighter and perhaps that is hurting the battery life.
Upon further testing, it appears the auto brightness feature of the stock rom is doing this.
With both devices in a dark environment, the st18i appeared brighter, with the same brightness settings.
Unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be a way to turn off auto brightness on the stock rom.
My mini pro's battery last much longer then it did on my old phone galaxy s2 so I have not a problem with battery

I'm currently on almost 2 days since charge and on 8%. And just when I started writing this it did just go down to 1% and a warning that battery is almost dead.
So it become 2% "better" ;-)
But I'm still happy with almost 2d with mixed usage and standby (wifi, push etc all the time).
Update and FIX!
My phone is no longer draining massive amount of batt life when idle (3-5% after 7 hours of idle), android system usage is now down to 5-15% instead of 78-97% from before.
My fixes.
1. Turn off data syncing
2. Turn off wifi while on the road (so wifi doesn't constantly look for signals).
3. Clear memory
Yes, att installs a lot of bloatware that constantly update for changes.
If killing those services AND disabling data syncing doesn't help your problem, then you have a kernel problem (like myself).
If this is the case, do the following:
1. Take phone back to att and get a replacement
OR
2. Re-flash your android with the STOCK kernel found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
OR
3. Reflash with cognition x2 (reported to solve a member's problem, I didn't try this myself).
NOTE** This will root your phone, you will NOT get the exclamation mark during boot up, but kernel counter may be at "1" after this process.
Re-flashing my phone AND applying the three tricks I mentioned above worked for me..finally my phone is no longer crippled with crappy battery life and recharging is A LOT faster now.
I must be going crazy but this sg2 is killing me. I got it from Att yesterday and the battery life has been pretty HORRIBLE. (First time android user btw).
The phone will eat up 10% of my batter life after only 90 mins of idle. I checked the battery usage and Android OS is at around 78%!!! How do I fix this problem? I downloaded OS monitor and didn't really see anything that uses a lot of CPU, except for certain files syncing from time to time (but 2-3% usage usually).
Checked with battery spy and apparently the majority of the time, the phone was hovering around 200mhz 70% of the time and not deep sleep.
It's sad to have only 1.5 hours of display time with a battery of 45% left (7 hours total time)...coming from an Iphone 3gs, this is just unacceptable. I almost flashed to the 2.3.5 firmware but noticed it's NOT compatible with ATT's version of SG2.
I see people who have a total time of 2 days AND a screen time with 3 hours with 30% battery left. I wish I can get half that!
Running on 2.3.4, can't be the infamous drainage bug right? Thought that only happens with the 2.3.3s
Wifi on, application sync on, GPS off, brightness at 25%, using live wallpaper (the windmill). No active apps on. Downloaded aim, epocrates, battery monitor, cpu spy, and os monitor..rest of the apps are stock.
Update
According to my CPU spy
For the past hour that the phone was in idle
2:20mins at 1200mhz
4:52mins at 1000mhz
8:33 at 800mhz
1:28 at 500mhz
10:11 at 200mhz
33:36 in deep sleep
Currently Android CPU usage is @ 97%, display time of 7mins(2%)
2h 30mins since last charge (97% charge)..current power is 79%. Did nothing but idling and checking battery life.
So...that's 30 mins out of the hour in which my idling cellphone was hacking the pentagon....
Also the cellphone is a tiny bit warm to the touch (not cold)
I have 35% battery life remaining and have been unplugged for nearly 11 hours. This is significantly better than what I was getting with a Thunderbolt on Verizon, where I was needing to charge after about six hours of use. 11 hours and 35% remaining isn't the best in the world, but it's only been two days. The phone needs a few days to charge and discharge to determine true battery stats and will probably get better.
Being that this is your first Android battery life will not seem great but let it settle in for a few days it should get better.

If you only got the phone yesterday, its way to early to make any judgments on battery life. Battery needs at least 3-5 days to settle in and build consistent battery stats.
Also, what are you settings? Auto Brightness, Bluetooth, GPS, auto syn(exchange emal, gmail, facebook, etc). If your not using these, they should be OFF. It's easy to manually refresh email, etc.
I've seen some people reporting very high Android OS(over 50%) but still getting solid battery life.
I'm at 1hr display time, heavy texting. 72% left, been unplugged for 12hrs
no people what this guy is talking about is the android os bug. i have it too. hopefully an upgrade or different rom will fix it. my phone has been unplugged 11 hours with only 1 1/2 hour display but android os has ran for 52 minutes and now im at 32% battery life. once this bug gets worked out the battery life will be amazing.
I don't think that there is an android OS bug. My android OS shows as being 42% with 13hrs of moderate use and I am still at 67% battery remaining. This is by far the best battery use I have ever experienced on an android device! My cappy would not even come close to this performance and this is on stock ROM and kernel.

I'm very happy with mine, this was the first total drain on a new battery so I know it will only get better.
Total time: 18hr 25min
Display time: 4hr 48min
I think it's the system os, not the hardware. There were a few times when the battery didn't discharge itself at 7%/hour (had it idle for 3 hours and it went down like 2%).
And yes, everything is turned off except the sync app data and wifi. There's no option to turn off 4g btw. It's just weird how sometimes it's in this mode of power drainage, and then sometimes it doesn't drain much..but most of the time, it's draining.
I seriously doubt the phone can only run 2.5 hours worth of heavy usage or 12 hours of standby (it should last days!). If this is "normal" for android, then maybe I should have a visit back to att and exchange for an iphone (and I really don't to!)

I agree - as I said in the Android OS drain thread, even in "good" situations, Android OS displays way high on our systems. I think it's a reporting bug.
I dropped 2% in 5.5 hours completely idle (sitting on my shelf) last night - Android OS was at over 60%. It seems that so far for me, the higher it is, the better my battery life is.
I drop around 15-20% in 9 hours of being mostly idle at my desk at work - it's a weak-signal location so the radio eats much more battery.
One thing is that unlike first-generation GalaxyS devices and interim ones like the Infuse, the GS2 has a coulomb-counter type of battery gauge. This type of gauge sometimes needs to be calibrated with multiple charge/discharge cycles or it will misreport battery state of charge. (However, when calibrated, it's much more accurate.)
Edit: I do have some power management tweaks in the kernel I'm running, but they don't make that much off a difference except in some high-drain corner cases in my experience. I'll be releasing it sometime later this week depending on how well these antibiotics do their job.
Do i need to install a battery app to see the percentage? or we have a way?
Install this app:

If you see "DataTracker-FD" or "Fast Dormancy" as the top wake lock, go into dialer
dial *#*#9900#*#*
disable Fast Dormancy (FD).
By default, the Samsung Galaxy S II has Fast Dormancy support enabled. One of the goals of Fast Dormancy is to increase the battery life of a device, by limiting the amount of signaling between the phone and the cell network. But, when Fast Dormancy it is not enabled in the network and is enabled on the phone it ironically works the other way around, and actually drains more battery than before.

That applies to the I9100.
As far as I can tell, the I777 has FD disabled by default. (This may change once I9100 ROM ports start showing up)
Okay, charged my battery to 97%(I got a beep saying it's fully charged). Idled for the past 2 hours and 22 mins. Battery is at 86%.
According to the battery, my screen account for 2%, and the android system accounts for 97%.
This is a stock phone guys, I have no apps installed!

I'm talking about live battery display. I installed no lock and have no lock screen to see how many % left.

Just search up "battery indicator" in the Market and you'll get a few to choose from.
I too got mine yesterday and started tinkering around with installing apps and such to test out all functions before I rooted it and move onto cm7 most likely. The 1 things I noticed was that the battery was NOT completely full when it was first turned on at the store so once it got a little lower after playing with it I charged it up overnight. Today the battery was WAY BETTER and was not dead yet. I have been using it NON STOP today, rebooting it, testing it, trying to root it, rebooting some more, some time using tango to test it out, watched a Netflix movie, pretty much taking full advantage of it all day. I finally decided to charge it up and use my Captivate a bit. I didn't keep track of usage and times today but I KNOW it lasted a WAY LONGER time with all I was doing with it than my Cappy. Tomorrow I will check more out possibly before putting on a rom.
So LOOOONNNNGGGG STORY short make sure you charge it up once you get it before messing with it too much and then it will LAST LONGER.

After two nights of completely draining then recharging the battery to full, the battery has gotten significantly better. I'm trying to drain it again before I go to bed tonight but I don't think I'll make it.
I played the entirety of Toy Story 3 on max brightness, and only burned 20% of the battery!
Hello Im new here and to Android itself.
I know that there is a lot of similar threats about this but I havent found neither a solution that works nor the description of the problems in such disscusion that describes my situation exactly; MY BATTERY DRAINS WAY TO MUCH WHEN IN USE so here it is.
I flashed to generic GB, to get rid of the bloatware of my carrier (Telcel); then when available to generic ( i think it was Swiss) ICS 4.04 and then to the next compilation 6.1.A.2.45, I didnt notice much difference then.
But then I rooted it (like 4 days ago or little more) using a script that I found here only asked me plug my phone, restore the file it put in "Back up and restore" and then reboot,
My CPU SETTINGS are:
1512 max 648 min screen on.
468 max 384 min screen off
At 1st even seemed that my battery extended from 8 to 10 hrs average but then I noticed that my phones was dying rather quickl; I though it was the Nova Launcher, but after stop using it still my battery si draining i repaired with Sony SUS to stock ROM and re-rooted using the same method, but i restore my apps and setting with Titanium..
The thing is that if I do not do anything on the phone it seems to last but the minute I turn on the screen (which is at less than 40% of brightness) it start consuming power at 16-21 % per hour or more, sometimes it goes up to 40% and even 500% strange is that Android System it consuming 33% to 51% this morning permantely or so it says settings.
It is normal that the phone consum3 10% of its battery by having the the screen on for a couple of minutes?
I have tried Watchdog, GSbattery AutoRun manege and I dont find the culprit
I attached the screenshots, along with some of the app "Battery drain"
Thanks in advance
