Sgs2 - official update KK1 issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody.
I'm here to know if someone else is having bad issue with this latest official update.
I'm talking about 2.3.6, released on KIES ( i think these early days ) with:
PDA: KK1
PHONE: Kl1
CSC: KK1 ( ITV )
With them, phone is totally unusable.
I'm having some random restart of the phone, WIFI totally unworking ( when i check it, it do not reveal my personal wifi net, and after i can't go inside settings menu.. ).

What did you have before this update?
Stock 2.3.5 or some custom rom?
This might be of interest for you: http://support.t-mobile.com/message/82629

stock 2.3.4
i installed then 2.3.4 ( from here ) then test wifi.
All ok.
Then connected the sgs2 to pc and kies.
Apply the update.
Same issue...
Bleah..

Did you clear cache, e.g. in recovery clear cache, wipe Dalvik Cache? If that not helps did you do factory reset?
I tried a lot of 2.3.6 versions and all runs fine and faster than 2.3.3-2.3.5

[Q] How to update firmware

hi
I have a Galaxy SII and wanted to know how i can update the firmware.
my current version is
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ
I read that there is a new version available for GAlaxy S II which has some improvements for batteries.
I tried using Kies but no firmware upgrade is showing up
mine is an unbranded phone. I bought this in Germany if this might help
Thanks and looking for your support
Use Odin and flash the latest KE7..guide and download here

But it will erase all your data, right?

No, it shouldn't. But I believe the update is for UK handsets only. Can't swear to it, but worth checking
Thank you will try odin. Since this is my fist android phone i didn't want to mess around much. But will try
Ok it shouldn't but you do have to make a factory reset in order to get the XEU CSC working and that will wipe your phone, won't it?
just bothering with that because without root there is no backup and kies is too stupid to have a simple button that says "backup"
Factory reset wipes your data, you for XEU CSC in above referred thread

[Q] Upgrade from XWKF3 (2.3.3) to XWKI4 (2.3.4) - no difference?

I have just flashed my European 2.3.3 SGS2 to the official firmware XWKI4 I've found on this site using Odin. The upgrade was fine and the system information on my device reads, that I have installed Android 2.3.4.
But when I start GTalk it is the same old version as before. I can not video chat with friends. So I believe no changes have been made?
How can I upgrade to 2.3.4 then - officially?
Should I flash back to my original XWKF3 firmware?
Are you sure there is no change, even i am using XWKF1 v2.3.3 and upgrade to XWKH3 v2.3.4 there is minor changes, do explore before saying anything.
Its normal for not having no video gtalk features in v2.3.4 as samsung decided not to include it. Btw who still use gtalk in the first place, that so not cool at all. People use google +, whatapps and skype.

When 2.3.4 is rolled out it will be on the Kies servers .
But as you have 2.3.4 it may not update unless you roll back .

I upgraded to KI4, rooted it via CF-root, followed the instructions on CF-root guide, installed cyanogen mod nightly build 59, but it doesn't boot into cyanogen. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Yep, wiped the system.
However, I booted back into WCM, re-installed the ROM, this time I toggled signature check, and it worked. I don't know why, but I had to install it twice. Same thing for the google apps...

Upgrading to Latest Official Firmware?

Hey guys!
I just bought a used Galaxy S2 I9100 and I love it!
It's the "factory international" unlocked one.
Even had to buy a wall adaptor for the European plug to work in Canada.
I would like to update it and trust me, I do search, but it's ever confusing!
The previous owner already rooted it, but I would just like to unroot it and go to official latest firmware. Starting fresh.
I visited this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and I know I have to get my downloads from there and flash with odin, but I have NO IDEA which one to download.
Here's my phone info currently:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XWKE1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
I live in Canada and I'm using Rogers as my carrier (they don't carry the I9100).
I absolute love this phone so far but I would just like to get to the latest firmware.
Can anybody point me to the firmware I want to get?
Thanks folks, and have a happy holiday!

I'd look for the baseband version associated with bell since they do sell the i9100. They use the same baseband frequencies as Rogers.
kernels are interchangeable. Always backup your current ROM before upgrading for sure just in case. I've even gone as far as trying different modem firmware to try and improve signal strength and data speeds.
As long as you have a backup of what currently works you can't go wrong really
oops...didn't read the part about unrooting. I've never gone back to un root before but I think you can flash an unrooted kernel through Odin. Sorry I can't be of more help add to which one.
I'd still look for stock Bell firmware

Just checked my phone and it says:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK2-CL726411
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKK2
So far everything seems okay.
I noticed that the Voice Talk app crashes now after I say a command.
I also got rid of that yellow half screen problem!
I think my phone is unrooted now because I didn't see a yellow triangle at boot, but the thing that's weird is I still have the superusr app and in my Kernel version it says "root".
Do you recommend me reflash my phone to Bell firmware?
If I do so, wouldn't I get all the Bell branded bloatware stuff on my phone or no?

Umm , judging by what I'm seeing , I suppose you only ran the "Check for updates" thingy in the Settings ? It only checks if there are any updates available, you have to do the actual updating via PC with an application called Kies. Get it from Samsung official website and follow instructions to get the updates, if any.
Edit : ... or by using Kies Air, but that's something else.

[Q] No firmware update possible - I9100 - GINGERBREAD.XWKF3

Hi there! I hope someone can enlighten me. I've never been able to update my SII since I got it, now it's almost a year ago in Belgium (so I'm stuck with GB 2.3.3). KIES says I've got the latest firmware version, and I get the same thing via FOTA.
Now it seems as if ICS provides some battery saving, among some other features, so I'd like to update the firmware (at least for once!)
I would like to avoid rooting, flashing and so on... although it seems as that's the most practical way to follow
So, thanks a lot in advance to anyone who could help me

OK, I've tried that and odin is not recognizing my phone... The firmware is there, I'm in download mode. I've switched usb ports... This is a bloody nightmare!
Last week I told a friend of ñine to try to update hers and she did it straight away through FOTA... and she had bought it only 6 months after me! What a bunch of wankers these Koreans!
friend of mine had the same problem with his s2, i found out his problem was caused by his phone being locked to a provider and because of this he had different kernel from me. he got update several months after me...
this because of provider's own extra apps on the phone...!
Just flash via Odin
