Hi there! I hope someone can enlighten me. I've never been able to update my SII since I got it, now it's almost a year ago in Belgium (so I'm stuck with GB 2.3.3). KIES says I've got the latest firmware version, and I get the same thing via FOTA.
Now it seems as if ICS provides some battery saving, among some other features, so I'd like to update the firmware (at least for once!)
I would like to avoid rooting, flashing and so on... although it seems as that's the most practical way to follow
So, thanks a lot in advance to anyone who could help me

OK, I've tried that and odin is not recognizing my phone... The firmware is there, I'm in download mode. I've switched usb ports... This is a bloody nightmare!
Last week I told a friend of ñine to try to update hers and she did it straight away through FOTA... and she had bought it only 6 months after me! What a bunch of wankers these Koreans!
friend of mine had the same problem with his s2, i found out his problem was caused by his phone being locked to a provider and because of this he had different kernel from me. he got update several months after me...
this because of provider's own extra apps on the phone...!
Just flash via Odin

Hey guys!
I just bought a used Galaxy S2 I9100 and I love it!
It's the "factory international" unlocked one.
Even had to buy a wall adaptor for the European plug to work in Canada.
I would like to update it and trust me, I do search, but it's ever confusing!
The previous owner already rooted it, but I would just like to unroot it and go to official latest firmware. Starting fresh.
I visited this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and I know I have to get my downloads from there and flash with odin, but I have NO IDEA which one to download.
Here's my phone info currently:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XWKE1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
I live in Canada and I'm using Rogers as my carrier (they don't carry the I9100).
I absolute love this phone so far but I would just like to get to the latest firmware.
Can anybody point me to the firmware I want to get?
Thanks folks, and have a happy holiday!

I'd look for the baseband version associated with bell since they do sell the i9100. They use the same baseband frequencies as Rogers.
kernels are interchangeable. Always backup your current ROM before upgrading for sure just in case. I've even gone as far as trying different modem firmware to try and improve signal strength and data speeds.
As long as you have a backup of what currently works you can't go wrong really
oops...didn't read the part about unrooting. I've never gone back to un root before but I think you can flash an unrooted kernel through Odin. Sorry I can't be of more help add to which one.
I'd still look for stock Bell firmware

Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK2-CL726411
[email protected] #2

So far everything seems okay.
I noticed that the Voice Talk app crashes now after I say a command.
I also got rid of that yellow half screen problem!
I think my phone is unrooted now because I didn't see a yellow triangle at boot, but the thing that's weird is I still have the superusr app and in my Kernel version it says "root".
Do you recommend me reflash my phone to Bell firmware?
If I do so, wouldn't I get all the Bell branded bloatware stuff on my phone or no?

Just wondering, what baseband version are you running?
Hello all, and sorry for my newb-ness!
I was looking around for making my SGS2 "legal" again, flashing it with entirely "old" firmware, but the firmwares i found here, are not fitting the original description i have.
my phone ran (XWKI8 before rooting and flashing new firmware to it)
but the problem is;
[ROMS]Official i9100 carrier branded firmware download for Odin Flash
The only fitting my phone and operator is from the SP (3), where mine is Telia...
I even tried getting the ones from 3, but as the download links doesnt work, im pretty lost, can someone help me?

Firmware info: PDA:XWKI8| PHONE:NEKI2| CSC:HTDKI1
XWKI8 Stock Kernel:http://www.multiupload.com/4O6DVGUGSU
Password: [email protected]
can i just flash either one from "telia" and then update normally via kies, or whats the best solution?
i want the SGS2 so legal that i could turn it in to my provider for service!
or any firmware for Telia
or can anyone link to me to any firmware hardcoded with telia's info?
none of the ones linked in this forum, or others are valid... downloads just doesnt work, HELP
Telia
Denmark

Are you based in Denmark? If so, then this would be the latest Telia fm from that thread. KK5 is newer than KI8.
Yeah... but the download link doesnt work!
and thats my problem, because i CANT find it anywhere
thanks for the reply though, but if you find a working download link for the KK5 it would be much appreciated!

You'd need the stock kernel relating to the rom, I've had no need to service so not sure, if anyone else who has had previous experience on this could help.
thought as much... and all the download links relating to the XWKK5 are busted
think im am going to try this one, until i find a legal one

Try Checkfus. There's a thread on here, search for it.
what should i do with that?
i dont need to check if there is an update, i just want either an older version kernel/firmware from Telia Denmark
which is working, so that i can update the old fashioned way!
or what was you intention with checkfus?
You can download the KI8 firmware with Checkfus. Try it & see

what to do if a Odin firmware upgrade hangs?
it hasnt been moving for a few minutes now, still stuck at the <ID:0/005> data.img part
just wait it out, or any other ideas?
can i abort it, and start over with one i know works?
Sadly... checkfus was of no help
but i got my phone running on the XWKK5 firmware, and it works ok!
but still not the best solution, i simply need the KI8 for Telia

because its says error every time...
i've tried an exact copy of this:

help
In my case, in the standard tab I chose Android/GT-I9100T/Australia (Vodafone), then I clicked on check firmware. Checkfus told me KJ1 was the latest available, I clicked download, waited for it to download the firmware and at the end of the process it automatically decrypted it.
Which gave me a zip containing a tarball (just like the firmware in Intratech's thread) I can flash in Odin if I ever need to go back to stock.
See... I didnt notice if my phone is a regular GTi9100 or a -T, -N or whatever the options are, how do i find such info, because i was so smart not to make a backup of my current settings :-(

Why did you use a method from outside of XDA? When you posted here, I responded with google searches that would have only returned results from XDA. The first result for the root search (for me, anyway) should have been the root method for ICS that didn't involve flashing anything with Odin.

Hello,
About a half year ago I lost mij IMEI. I used a custom rom and then tried to flash back to my stock rom without making a backup... I had to use the UK firmware that im still using today, this had something to do with the basebands (was told me):
Current firmware i'm using:
Androidversion: 4.1.2, baseband version I9300XXEMG4, kernelversion: 3.0.31-1314436 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 16 20:28:36 KST 2013, buildnummer JZO54K.I9300XXEMG4

Build date: Tue, 26 Nov 2013 08:03:22 +0000
Product Code: PHN

I thought maybe this new firmware has the same basebands as I am currently using. So my question: Should I flash the new firmware that is available for my country or do I still have to use the UK version? My goal is to have my phone as original as possible. I know some stuff about rooting but i'm sertainly not a pro. If you guys need more information or screenshot in order to help me please tell me! You are my last hope...
Thanks you very much!
Greetings
Questions go in the q&a forum, report your own post and ask a moderator to move it.
Your imei problem was likely due to efs folder changes samsung introduced. If it works on EMG4 then it should be okay on GMK6.
Backup your efs before you do anything.

Thanks, i'll try tonight! Maybe someone could post a link with a tutorial how to back up EFS. Not just for me, but for everyone that has similair problems! If it worked i'll let you know!
EDIT: My phone needs to be rooted to backup the EFS, but it's not rooted. I'm afraid that when I root my phone I lose my IMEI like before. What should I do? Just flash the stock rom of root it first and then try to back it up (with the risk I lose my IMEI and can't go back to my current using firmware, and then flash the stock rom...
I've downloaded the new firmware and when I extract the zip file, there is only these two files:
-I9300XXUGMK6_I9300PHNGMK1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar
-SS_DL.dll
Please help me (and many others) to solve this problem. Thanks a lot!

Just flash the new firmware thru Odin. Check in youtube how to use ODIN.
You have to choose that tar file under PDA in Odin.
There should not be any problem. But you will loose all softwares, contacts, sms etc. The phone will be as good as comes from factory.
