can you install custom recovery?
this is new but use this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971245
all the data in my phone are gone. is there still a need for custom recovery? and what do i do after custom recovery?
all the info you need is in this thread including custom recovery. After the custom recovery is done you shall beableto try out any of the ROMs listed there. follow the instructions to the letter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
oh, the key combo to access your custom rom(once it is done) is Home+Volume Down+Power Button It even gives you the option to connect in usb mode so you can put the ROM you want and then disable usb mode and go back to main menu then choose flash from zip.

i've tried reading all the guides. the problem is, i don't understand lots of things for example, partition the SD card.
1.Partition SDcard (swap: 0, ext: 512), ext2-ext3, then ext3-ext4 it.
i understand the (swap: 0, ext: 512) part, but not the rest. sorry. im a beginner at these
all those options are available to you in the custom recovery. choose partition card.
you will need to download Android SDK from this site
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Install it then connect you phone in USB Debugging mode. It is under Settings->Applications. Bring up a comand prompt in windows and type adb shell then su Root your phone with this app first:

Hi frozen91,
This is simpler than that. You need to install the PC application Streak_iLikeMyGPhone from link.
With this application first install superboot and install recovery after and we have installed the clorckworkmod recovery.
We can install from update.zip superuser.zip or install a custom rom with the superuser already installed.
I hope you understand me, my english is not very good.
Actually, the rooting process is even more simple than what you posted, which you would have discovered upon reading the "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it" thread.
No one-click rooting tools of any kind are needed and in fact are not recommended. Flash the recovery then immediately boot into the recovery instead of letting the Streak boot normally. From there flash superuser.zip and voilá, you're rooted.

The method that I posted is the unic method wich I rooted and intalled clockworkmod recovery in my device. I tried with diferents methods and I get only with this method.
I could do with other methods in froyo 2.2
Well, Clockworkmod has issues on the Streak. You should be using StreakMod Recovery instead.
I don't run a Linux box, though I am familiar with Linux and have used it in the recent past. However, even with Linux you don't need a one-click rooting tool. Linux binaries for Fastboot and ADB are readily available. A cursory search with Google turned up this page. While it assumes the user is running Debian, the setup should apply to any flavor of Linux.
It doesn't matter which OS you have. No one-click root tools are needed to root a Streak because the rooting process hasn't changed from Froyo to Gingerbread. You still load the recovery first using Fastboot on your computer, immediately boot into the recovery, then load the SU binary.

Hello,
my friend have a dell streak 5 and he decided to root it... he was orignally on android version 2.2 and then he followed a guide here http://www.modaco.com/topic/316229-19aug-streak-21-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/ and flashed superboot r1 for build 6941 for "2.1". and now its stucked in dell logo...
the phone can still enter into recovery and fastboot mode so if anybody can help to recover back the phone it would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
okay first of all sorry for double post.. a user assisted me and said to flash 360.Now the problem is how do I flash it in fast boot mode???I mean I am a regular samsung user and we have tools like ODIN(for samsung) where we can flash a zip file but I see for Dell streak you get a .pkg file so any thought how I can flash 360 file and get the Dell streak back in action.
PS:This dell streak got semi bricked while rooting so it might not be rooted so please keep the situation in mind and say me is it safe to flash 360 and if it is safe then how to flash it via fast boot mode
If you can enter the fast boot and recovery then update your fone with gb (2.3.3)
New rom makes every thing good and better

You don't flash a ROM via fastboot, but in recovery. If you don't have a recovery installed but can access fastboot you should be able to install a recovery via MultiFlasher (link in my sig). For the 360 ROM you would flash one of the region 00 recovery images. From that point you should be able to install the ROM.
Next time, don't use a one-click method to root. Install a custom recovery, immediately boot into the recovery and flash superuser.

thanks for all your support.. I solved the problem..
I am also writing sets of instruction that how I solved it just in case if some one faces the same problem.
Making note of my problem and the dell steak 5 condition,
*I was able to enter the recovery mode(this recovery is stock recovery).
*Once I entered the recovery I decided to download the stock ROM file (update.pkg).
*MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT BUILD FILE (.pkg) OR ELSE YOU END UP IN A SEMI/FULL BRICK.(well in my case my build was 15609 so I downloaded the 305 version .pkg file and recovery wasn't needed since I already had the stock recovery for the specified build which is already installed on the streak 5).
*I put the file on SD card and renamed it as "update.pkg".
*Flashed the update via stock recovery. It took like around 5 mins since it was the first boot after flashing so be patient.
*TA-DAAAA!!! my friend's Dell Steak 5 was alive and running up on 2.2.2 :good:
I thank to all the people who assisted me in this process.
PS:Special thanks to TheManii
Just some things before we start. My Phone is the P769 and I'm a total noob.
Alright, I rooted my phone yesterday and then proceeded to download CWM, the app of course. So, when I went to setup a custom recovery, I picked from the options they had their, to which I picked the P760. Low and behold, I found it was a horrible failure when I rebooted into recovery because I got the security error...I think I soft-bricked it? Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, I just downloaded the LGSupport Tool and eventually fixed it.
So I think my question is, where can I get a custom recovery for the P769? Am I supposed to be looking for that in the first place? As you can see, I'm quite lost.

I have the cm 11 rom file and the gapps file. I just can't find the correct recovery on Rom manager to reboot into so I can install the files
You will first have to unlock your boot loader in that case, follow all the instructions from the first ONLY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601480
Then, do the follwong:
1. Have one of the recoveries from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-l9/development/p769-recoveries-p769-mirror-issues-t2879854, CM11 and the required G.Apps on your SD card.
2. Navigate (use a mirror if needed) through cwm, restore your choice of #1, and reboot into recovery again from the cwm (Under "advanced")
3. The new recovery should look different and not be mirrored, but the touch will be wonky, don't worry. Flash the CM11 and G.Apps. Do NOT reboot yet.
4. Then flash "cwm_ts_fix_p769.zip". reboot
Done!
I might get to writing a guide after my experience doing the exact same and getting my head around it for the past 2-3 days, but I have a very busy schedule, so I cna't promise anything. Besides, kuma82's guide is excellent.

Also, I didn't know I needed a literal mirror lol.

Sorry for the vague instructions, first, let me ask, is your phone successfully unlocked? Got that fastboot menu on the phone somewhere along the process? Or you can try connect in SW DL mode (Power off phone, hold Vol+ and plug in USB, should see "Unlocked bootloader").
If yes, then you should be on the European 20B with mirror screen and wonky touchscreen, follow the below instructions:
1. Have one of the recoveries from the link I posted AND CM11 (I am using dhiru's version) AND G.Apps AND cwm_ts_fix_p769.zip on to your external SD.
2. Run Start.cmd, push files (Fix_Touch-V20F.zip & MetroPCS-V10E-Radio.zip) to External SD using kuma82's tool
3. Install BusyBox and reboot into the inverted CWM recovery
4. Navigate (use a mirror if needed) through CWM, flash the recovery of your choice AND choose to reboot to recovery from within the recovery
5. (CWM should not be inverted now). Install the files in the given order without a reboot in between:
a. CM11
b. G.Apps
c. Fix_Touch-V20F.zip
d. Recovery you flashed in step 4 - This is critical, as Fix_Touch-V20F.zip installs an older recovery which may cause soft-brick, thus you need to install the recovery again
e. cwm_ts_fix_p769.zip[/INDENT]
6. Reboot

Alright, I kinda softbricked on step 4. I believe my bootloader is unlocked since I'm in CWM, right? I'm going to start from the top again, but I have a bit more confidence this time around.
On step 4 of flashed "CWM 6.0.4.8 No-Touch for P769" and then rebooted in recovery, the option under advance and got a secruity error, or a soft brick...same thing I believe. I dunno what I did wrong.
Check if your are unlocked, try going into software download mode.
Alright, when I go into SW DL, it doesn't say unlocked bootloader, it just shows what it normally shows. But I have the mirror screen and wonky touchscreen...did I miss a step or something? I did everything I believe.

There are steps missing after step 3 you need to flash radio in the inverted recovery and then reboot and the tool and run the unlock command after 45 minutes and press vol + to unlock and then flash a recovery while you're phone is still in fastboot mode (this is the mode your phone is in after you press the vol + to unlock) by using the command fastboot flash recovery (insertrecoveryname).img
Alright, after I push both files to the sd card, I try to install the radio zip, but it fails. Does the problem lie there in?
Wait, did you follow everything from the first post in this thread as I mentioned earlier: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601480

Is there honestly something that should be different? Because, when I press the option to unlock the bootloader, it just reboots and what...almost identical with the results of step 6.
Am I playing with my phone wrong? What am I really supposed to do to it for 45 minutes...I want to say there in lies my problem.
Excuse me as I head to class with super inverted phone, lol.
Yes, you have to wait about 45 mins as mentioned in the step, that is why we said follow it to the T.
Hiya
I've desided to change my rom on my G925F and I have it rooted however I am unable to reboot into the bootloader I can't find any way to unlock it.
Any thoughts, hints, ideas that would help me in my quest to rid my phone of bloatware would be greatly appreciated
You won't need to unlock your bootloader if you have a 925F - do you mean you can't boot into recovery mode? What exactly are you trying yo achieve? Do you want to flash another firnware, or just de-bloat your current firmware?
Hi

Maybe I should say why I want to get into the bootloader:
I want to install fastboot and I can't cause I can't get into bootloader

So if I understand your request, you'll first need to flash a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, which you do via Odin. Once you have that, you can flash a new custom firmware as an unsigned .zip file. Follow the instructions here - this is what I used on my 925F.

Sorry, I'm still not sure what you're trying to achieve - you're obviously able to boot into Download Mode if you're now using TWRP (assuming you flash it via Odin). What are you trying to do via Fastboot that can't be done via TWRP?

Umm. . . According to that link you've posted, the Galaxy S6 isn't even supported. I suspected as much, as Fastboot is usually something you only see on pure Android devices (Nexus phones/tablets).
I'd strongly suggest you do some more reading on this before proceeding, as you'll almost certainly end up with an expensive paperweight otherwise!!
