Asus Keyboard Dock is the scratching bottom bezel of my prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just to warn u guys I believe this is happening because I have a full body protection kit from skinomi; carbon fiber back skin and front clear protection.

U can see the straight horizontal line or indentation from the keyboard dock. Most likely caused by being a real tight fit from the skinomi kit.
This is where the 1ndentation is happen1ng due to a very tight fit

Mine does the same. I noticed the "tray" where the tablet slides into the dock is padded with felt. I'm thinking if you remove the one on the front side that would give the tablet just enough clearance to stop the rub marks.
Haven't tried this tho.

My Skinomi screen protector made it nearly impossible to get my Prime in and out of the dock. It also started actually pushing up the protector at certain points. I ended up taking the protector off completely because I just wasn't comfortable with how tight it fit. I ended up buying another screen protector and cut it so that it allows for where the dock fits over the screen. Works much better.

I'm using just the skinomi skin not screen protector and I will see how that works out.. Hopefully it won't scratch its beautiful screen!

Is that really a scratch or is it just some kind of residue? When I undock my prime after having been docked for a day there's a slight dust line left in that same spot, but it just takes a quick swipe of my finger to clean it. Seems pretty unlikely to dent glass like that. And a scratch like that would seem to happen if you slid the tablet into the dock horizontally.

may be to thick with the backplate protector..
Thanks for the heads up.
Does no one remove the Asus sticker on their docks? Or did you just get it?

It's normal to leave those stickers your talking about on most laptops if not every one I have serviced still has the sticker like it on I actually prefer to have it left on.

To me it is like leaving the tag on clothes you wear.. why have a shiny piece of Asus "How to" there for years? looks tacky
Hope its not a fashion statement like baseball caps and leaving the stupid New Era sticker on the brim

And people who leave the plastic film on their laptops...

Agreed; it was the first thing that I took of the tablet.

When you get a new TV do you leave that HUGE sticker in the top right that says I can do this this this and this and also this.... I bet not.. lol

It's nice to leave them on a laptop, it makes ordering parts for your model very easy. On the other hand everyone knows the this tablet is the transformer prime and almost everyone on this board knows its a TF201

Has anyone with a clear front and back skin tried fitting it in the dock? I'm wondering if the clear one is a little thinner. I'd really like to put my prime in a protector + skin because today I got my first scratch on the back. But if it's not gonna fit in the dock, then I might need to reconsider.
Also, anyone know any front+back protector combos which DO fit in the dock nicely?

Any word on how it fits? I am looking into doing the same.

It does not fit
Skinomi will not fit I in the dock

I have the dock as well. Any thoughts on loosening the screws a touch at the bottom of the hinge? My Zagg Invisible Shield arrives in two days and that is what I am going to try.

So both Asus' official transleeve case and Asus' official dock scratch their own tablet (I have the case, but not the dock)? I just don't know what to say anymore.

That's a scratch on the screen protector because he has an extra film on both the front and back of the prime. The dock doesn't scratch the Prime. I take it in and out daily with just a screen protector on, and don't have a single mark on my Prime (or screen protector).

Okay. That's good to know. I quickly read this whole thread but didn't see that it was a scratch on the protector and not the Prime, and obviously the thread title is misleading.

[Q] Skinomi?? Anyone used them before?

Anyone familiar with Skinomi? I went looking for the Transformer on Amazon (no luck here yet) and noticed this Skinomi company selling a screen protector and carbon fiber back thingy for the Transformer: http://amzn.to/hDSr1m
I've always gone w/ Bodyguardz and BSE, but I'm not sure if I want the "rubbery" feel type protector this time around.
My wife recently got a protector for her nook and it's much smoother when dragging around on a touch display. It was more rigid/plastic film - as opposed to rubbery like Bodyguards (and I'm assuming that Skinomi).
She got it from an ebay seller, but there's no description there on what the actual material is: http://cgi.ebay.com/3x-SCREEN-PROTE...625?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf61a5df9
Anyone know what the more rigid/plasticy film types are referred to as - and who might sell them for tablets?
Have used skinomi screen protectors on past few phones and ipad1/2 and on xoom. I know some devices have gorilla glass, but i just like it being covered. Skinomi is my personal favorite after trying others like invisishield from zagg
I am currently using the skinomi screen protector and carbon fiber skin protector on my gtab. I really like the product and would recommed it. I'm in the process of selling my gtab and picking up the Asus transformer if I can find one at a local bestbuy.
Skinomi protectors are great for tablets that need one. The Transformer has Gorilla glass so no protector is needed.
Looking for a hard plastic (not film) screen protector myself. From what i'm reading it seems like the skinomi is a film, so it may be slightly grippy/textured like invisibleshields and bodyguardz. As for the back, the transformer's back is textured so i'm not sure how well the body film would adhere, if it was clear it has a big chance of looking like crap as it may not be able to get a tight fit, and if it was patterned, hell it might not even stick well and start peeling near the corners in short order.
How does the skinomi do with anti-glare? I want to get something mainly for the glare rather than the protection. Any suggestions?
I had the skinomi screen protector on my viewsonic gtablet but took it off after using it for about half a day. The material impaired the sensitivity of the screen when dragging. In Sketchbook mobile, this looked like a randomly broken line. Pressing harder didn't help the matter. Nor did recalibrating the screen.
On the plus side, there was no damage when taking it off!
I didn't see any significant improvement in viewing angle with the protector on the screen. As for glare, I never had my tablet out in bright sunlight but you could still see the reflected image of nearby light sources pretty clearly on the screen.
My 2 cents is that it's not worth it. The gorilla glass on these transformers is tough enough to resist scratches from dirty fingers and occasionally bumping from car keys and the like.
I bought two for the wifey and I. We actually like the feel of the screen protector. I'm super excited, I was one of the lucky few that got my order in at bestbuy when it was released on the 26th. Wished I paid for faster shipping though, but I will get it tomorrow.

I had a skinomi on my gtablet, with none of those issues. Its also the same material i have on my EVO. This is a wet apply skin, with the front it can take up to 24hrs for the screen to set and cure correctly, if you have moisture, or any creases , it will not work right. I recommend watching the video on the skinomi site for reference. The cool thing about the material though is that if you screw up you can carefully peel off and spray down and reapply. I have seen a lot of people in various reviews boo hoo the wet apply type protectors and I have to say that if done right they rock. I have already ordered one for mine because even though we have gorilla glass the skin will be easier to wipe smudges and oily fingerprints from and gives the screen a nice squishy tactile feel.
I sent them an email asking for a set consisting of screen protector, tablet skin and keyboard skin. Here's their reply:
Hello,
Because the tablet and the keyboard are sold separately, our kits for the tablets will only include the tablet itself. We will be selling the protectors for they keyboards soon.
Thank you for the inquiry.

How is the overall fit? The one for my Xoom was a good millimeter to small on each side. Does the one for the TF fit "all the way"? I think I'll order one soon unless there's one coming out with better anti-glare properties
it fits very well. the width is just a tad smaller, but nothing noticeable if you apply it right in the center, mine was a little off center by tiny bit. Overall very pleased with quality and their service.
I know I have gushed about how I like the skinomi....here is another reason...ordered direct from them on Friday again , this time for my tf that gets here tomorrow. The skin went from CA to Dallas over the weekend and got here today.

Best Screen Protector?

What do you guys think is the best screen Protector for the Rezound? I've tried Invisibleshield, but don't really like the orange peel or rubber feel. I also want something that covers the entire screen and has some fingerprint resistance. Also, anti glare would be nice, but I don't know if they make those. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

I also dislike the invisi shields. I hate the feel & when I had one on my Thunderbolt I ended up having to replace it twice.
right now I am enjoying using nothing but if I do get protectors its probably just going to be the basic cheapo ones.
I had a cheap one on my Incredible, then Invisishield, and now nothing for 3 months. I like it better without protection, personally. :-D

just like sexytime.
as Austin Powers once stated they're only needed by sailors who go from port to port.
I'm pretty paranoid about scratching my screen, but also VERY particular about the protector. I tried the ones from VZW, but couldn't stand how it changed the awesomeness of the RZ screen. Didn't like the eggshell feel of the Zagg or I'd go to Best Buy. Been using Steinheil on my DI1 and DI2, but when I checked last week, they still weren't available for the RZ. Same for Ghost Armor.

and meh idk if i like it. i hate screen protectors, but my boss was like, take one, just pop it on, idc..i was like agiht can't turn that down lol but still, there's one tiny spec of dust under it and it's pissing me off. hate screen protectors lol
how much of the screen does the screen protector actually cover? can we get a close up picture of it?
it's literally the whole screen, except like a milimeter off the sides. it goes down to the bottom of the bezel and is on the top of the bezel (has cutouts fro the camera and the light sensor)
Since I hate shiny screens, I used the same protector film as I have on my ipad2:
Speck Matte :
http://www.amazon.com/Speck-Product...SHKC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322019483&sr=8-1
I can probably make about 6 Rezound sized screen protectors from 1 sheet (the pack comes with 2 sheets...but 1 is on my ipad 2). I made using the crappy screen that came with the otterbox case as a template. Dhen you think you have it the EXACT right size, cut about 1/2 (half) a millimeter off all sides, otherwise you will get hung up on the edges and perpetual bubbles where the film catches the inner "edge/lip".
The matte film lasts long, is fingerprint/smudge resistant, and THANK GOD, its matte (not shiny).
Just be sure you REALLY clean the screen well prior to application, go slow and work out all the bubbles, and do it in a DUST/lint free environment (like a humid bathroom) or a cleanroom (if you have access to one).
god i HATE screen protectors! less than 12 hours on and this stupid ass thing has a damn scratch already. it's only been in my pocket ONCE since putting it on, and it was in there b yitself!
these things scratch if you put it on velvet. that's why i hate screen protectors lol i have a feeling i'll be taking this thing off in a day.
How scratch resistant is the screen? I had always used a screen protector with my Droid X (Steinhiel ultra clear). I hate them though but I am so OCD if I got a scratch on my screen it would drive me crazy. I would like to go without one cause the screen looks so much better.
just checked Steinheil and Phantom Skinz. Both dont have one yet. I emailed them both asking when we ca see it. They are the only ones I have ever used.
I refuse to use ZAGG/ Invisible shield

I bought the Verizon Screen Protector as a stop gap until better products hit the market. Unfortunately that was money wasted. It felt too slick and gave that rainbow effect whenever viewing anything with white background. Like oil on water, I guess because of the anti-glare treatment. I pulled it of after 1 day.
I just hope GhostArmor gets some skins out soon.
I'm looking for one that helps alleviate the fingerprints the most if anyone has any suggestions. I have a Zagg on my Bolt and I don't mind it but I want something a little less orange peel for the Rezound.

I think that the matte/orange peel/egg shell type textures do the most to make fingerprints less noticeable, but I don't know of any screen protectors that flat out repel fingerprints (oils and stuff). That would be really cool though.

Review of Poetic StandBook Leather Case (Version that doesn't cover bezel)

Here's the case - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006PWGESY/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Just received it today. The leather and stitching look nice and seem like they are of good quality. The inner padding is soft and so I doubt it would mess up the screen.
It has a few different stand angles and it is pretty sturdy when angled (doesn't fall out of the grooves).
When the tab is angled, the speaker isn't covered at all so there aren't issues with the speaker being blocked.
I really like the look of it since it doesn't cover the bezel like other cases.
The only things I don't like have to do with the tabs that hold the tablet in place. In the very last picture I post you can see the tabs that hold the bottom right and bottom left corner of the tablet in place. You have to pop these out when using the angular stand. It's a pain to pop out because it is a very tight fit. I'll probably just leave the bottom corners out and not held in place. Also, when you close the front cover, the tab that holds the cover closed isn't that tight of a fit so it easily pops off.
Overall, it's a decent case for $15 shipped.

This is the case i'm waiting for in the UK.
I had the same on my OG Transformer and it was great.
Nice review! I have the same exact case. As stated my only concern with the case is the bottom tabs where the tablet pops out so you can stand it up. Mine are tight as well and it makes me nervous to keep popping it and out. Other than that it seems like an overall nice case.
More pics. Dont use the bottom two tabs. Sweet case.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I got this as well and feel the same about the bottom two tabs. I wonder if it's the same with the Blurex, Moko and Verteks cases.
I'm sure they have the same problem. These cases look identical except the branding. But for 15$ it's not bad. It's a good case for carrying the tab around. I'm looking into a nice sleeve for when I take the tab + dock around.
Someone on another forum said that they successfully loosed up the bottom two tabs with some pliers.
how much does the case add to the thickness of the tablet.
+1 on bottom tabs. I just don't use them at all.
I got mine for $10 from amazon, free shipping
Returned my prime to Newegg.. Going to go with the tf700. If anyone wants this case and the extra carbon fiber skin and screen protector by skinomi that I have, shoot me a PM. Good luck. To you all
I hope this is not a stupid question, but does the case close with the dock attached?
Took my tablet out today and I'm really shocked at the quality of the spinned/brushed finishes. After examining under a bright light I saw several scratches. I was really careful. The tablet itself came into contact with nothing but my hands and the cushion of the laptop bag. Granted it wasn't microfiber but still. I had a Zune HD for 2 years and it had no problems. The back is flawless despite much harsher treatment I've given it over the past year or so such as tossing it in the same pocket with keys. Only the laser etching and plastic is scratched. The brushed aluminum finish is flawless. The screen is close enough. I hate using cases but it looks like in this case I have to or my heart will hurt =(.
I got mine today too, I like how thin it is but those bottom tabs definitively suck. My tab that holds it closed is actually fairly strong but that may wear out, I like the case but I have seen other cases I liked more, but for the price this one is awesome.
I received this case as well and I think it's a total POS. What's worse is that seller totally ignoring my requests or either a replacement or a return. Stay clear, you have been warned.
I recently received this case and had purchased it because I also own a Poetic Case for my TF101. The thing I don't like about this case vs the one for my TF101 is that there is a crease down the front of the flap that covers the screen which isn't there on my TF101 Poetic Case. This causes the tablet to not stay secure or stand up properly in the grooves if you have it laying on any surface that isn't flat (i.e. my lap, bed, or merely holding it).
The case for my TF101 is more sturdy than this one because it doesn't have the grove down the front flap and I was quite used to being able to holding it in my lap when I commute into work or in my hand without it falling out of the grooves everytime.
I also agree with the other comments about the bottom corners being too stiff but I guess others have been able to fix this with pliers. For $15, this will work for now but I hope to find something better in the near future. I do like the minimalistic look in that it doesn't cover the front screen but having it skip out of the grooves is somewhat annoying.

It's hard to take out at first but eventually it will come off easier. I ordered this as well but I have similar style for my daughter ipad with similar situation.

is anyone still using the transleeve and satisfied with it?

I just ordered it, i know the reviews stink and its been bashed but i want something sleek that doesn't add bulk and i also already have a skin coming for the back.
figured a skin with the sleeve may be perfect for me.
i can't stand these bulky leather cases.
Very strange here... I got my wife the pink one back on 12/22. I got my black one last week.
My wife's is a piece of crap. Fell apart within 2 days of starting to use it. I use mine a lot more that she does, and I've had no problems with mine...
Very happy so far with mine, and hate her's.
I loved the concept of slim & minimal & uses the keyboard slots but the reviews & laughable price scared me off.

hmm strange.. thanks for the feedback.
AS long as you protect the back from being scratched and don't care there is no closure clasp/magnet I am sure it's fine...a little spendy though.
I just got mine today. So far, I like it. My idea is that I'd either use this or the keyboard dock (which requires I find one and buy it, which has not yet happened).
I did put a small piece of clear tape on the outsides of the holes the cover clips into for a bit of protection. Honestly, I can hardly tell the tape is there.
I wish someone would make a product exactly like the transleeve, however with a thin & clear TPU back that the cover would hinge onto, and that would add the magnets necessary to keep the cover in place.
I guess it can't hurt to dream
I got mine today and absolutely love it. Very thin and light. Exactly what i wanted. Why would i cover the back of this beautiful device.

FWIW i got mine yesterday and i too love it. it does what it says it does. it adds no bulk, protects the screen and acts as a useful stand.
sure its pricey but w/e. its better for me than a bulky 3rd party case that makes the device look terrible.
i have a skinomi skin coming today, that along with the sleeve i think will be perfect for me. no bulk and protected.
I have mine since December and I have had zero issues. I love it.
My black cover is arriving today. I purchased the clear Skinomi back protector and screen protector to help eliminate scratches. From the feedback, it seems like as long as it doesn't fall apart on me I will be pleased.
I have a neoprene case that I carry it in and wanted to have a cover/stand to prop it up and this is PERFECT. I'm very eager to test it out tonight when I get home, it should be a good addition.

I searched amazon and it showed they had a used/like new one so I bought it for $30. I can return it if I don't like it so I figured I would save a few bucks. It's probably someone who freaked out and returned theirs when they heard about scratching.
i got my used off amazon as well for $30.00 free shipping. was perfect shape.. like it so much i might get the actual color i wanted (green) as well.
I was liking mine until my Prime slipped off my desk and hit right on one corner. The transleeve just popped off and there's now a nice little dent. Still works, but fair warning--it doesn't provide much protection in a fall.
I actually really like it. If you're generally careful with your tablet and your main concern is protecting the screen from scratches, I think it's perfect. I'm very happy with the combination of the transleeve and a neoprene case/sleeve for traveling.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Here's what mine looks like. I'm very pleased with the sleeve. I have the Carbon fiber full body screen protector to compliment the black sleeve. It's not ment to be impact resistant so be careful where you set your tablet down. I also added some tape around the corners so that the connectors don't scratch the edges.

I do like the Amethyst Gray. Especially now with the carbon fiber skin. I think it compliments it better vs the Champagne. The lighter color of the Champagne will show all the little pieces to the carbon fiber skin which will look tacky and cheap imo. The darker tones of Amethyst Gray hides all the seperations better.
I bought one before I even had the tablet. I love it, as it's light and slim and protects the screen without bulk. I also have the keyboard dock, but since my need for that is less routine, the Transleeve is the go-to cover for me and has served me quite well so far.

I love mine, but I'm weird that way, I guess.

Screen protector?

Are you guys using a screen protector on this phone? It seems that one may be unnecessary with the gorilla glass 3 we have on this thing. I'm still debating whether to get one or not.

yeah im using the one that came with my spigen neo-hybrid but its a fake and its already bubbling. Im thinking of getting a glas t slim glass protector because its so clean and slim. If you plan on selling the phone later on then you should.
Using an SGP crystal. Even gorilla glass 3 can scratch if it meets something like sand. I may go with a glass protector eventually.
I'm using the iLoome Screenmate glass protector and love it. Only thing is it does not have rounded edges like some do. I would recommend iLoome or MIME for tempered glass protectors. The MIME has rounded edges and you can use coupon code "bbq" for an additional 11% off plus free shipping through Monday for memorial weekend. I used both on my iPhone 5 and both companies have excellent customer service.
I got Tech Armor for just under $6 for 3. It's very nice and clear although I don't know about durability.

I will also be using that, just exchanged my S4 so if all goes well with my tests and checks I'm putting it on tonight. I'll never not put a screen protector on a phone.
I'm using the Glas.Tr. Its worth every penny

I'm still using the one that came on the phone. Lol. I couldn't decide what protector I wanted to go with, or if I'll even use one, so I figured I'd leave this one on until I decide. I will say this might be the best install I've had on a phone. NO DUST OR AIR BUBBLES.
I did cut off the tab at the top. I slid a credit card underneath the tab and cut the section level with a razor to make look nice.
Yeah I was bummed when I removed the OEM screen plastic from my nex4 cause that same day I put my keys in my pocket with my phone for all of ten minutes. Still have the little marks it made.
I bought a screen cover after that and ripped it off a few days later cause my diztronic phone case was messing up its edges that went all the way to the rounded glasses ends.
Had I kept the original it would still be perfect I bet. Still good though just saying I learned that the OEM is fine for a long time.

It's a good idea to use one anyway. I had someone at the Verizon store apply mine for me.
Steinheil oleophobic on mine. Can't even tell it is there and feels just like glass. Keeps fingerprints minimal too.

I almost left the default on my replacement, I never saw such a decently placed factory protector in my life. In the end though I decided to give my SGP a try and do it in the bathroom after I got out of the shower. Using the hinge method, this is the first time I've never gotten a speck of dust on the screen and placed it 99% perfectly. Can't get much better than this:

The only flaw I see is around the front facing camera, it could have been moved to the right a micrometer. Actually, looking at the home button cutout, I think that's more of a cutting issue on SGP's side because that looks perfect vertically and horizontally.

Looks great to me. I normally get the SGP Ultra Crystal for my devices, but I was thinking about trying the GLAS this time around. Since the original protector is clear and doesn't have lines or writing on it, it has given me some more time to make my decision. Which version of the SGP are you using?

That's what I'm using, the SGP Ultra. Got it for 50% off when I bought the case from them. First experience with them, but both case and screen protector are very nice.
I started using screen protectors on the note 2 and this phone after all the phones I own. Because I don't notice a difference in quality or feel. And find it much easier to clean. and the slightest hair line scratch will drive me crazy. I'm not awesome at putting them on. So when I get devices. I make the salesmen put it on. And if it's not mint they try again and again till its perfect or I don't want it and won't pay for it haha.
