Alright guys, I think its time this device has a solid team of testers and developers alike so I'm looking for any developers interested in joining. What kind of devs do we need? Well, we need Java and ROM developers and I was also hoping globatron would be willing to join (I'm sure you can agree globatron, its easier to have stuff tested by a closed group that's on Irc or something and know what they are doing) I'm sure you all are thinking "hey, you said testers too!" Yes I did, I want 2 people for each device but you must be power users. No stupid questions should be asked and you must be proficient with adb and fastboot.
Just post below mentioning what you want to join as and I'll let you know. So far we have gumby as another rom Dev and moneymike55 as our themer.
Members:
moneymike55 - themer (evo view)
Gumby63 - rom developer (flyer)
Indirect - Rom developer/general developer (view/flyer)
Truthkillszz - Tester (evo view)
mcord11758 - Tester (HTC Flyer Wifi Only)
kaijura - Tester until further investigation (View)
DigitalMD - Coder
AidenM - General dev / tester (Wifi Flyer)
newalker91 - Kernel Dev (View)
vlara - General dev (unknown)

I would like to join as a tester. I have been rooting my phones and using adb , fastboot since G1 days lol. I have had 8 different phones which I rooted all since I got them and the view is my 4th tablet which I rooted all also. I am new to the view but I am dying to help ramp up the dev scene for this device.
Tester for the team means you get alpha / beta tests btw everyone. Also, you're in truthkillszz.

I could be a tester/partial ROM modifier, can't exactly modify code that well but know my way around android. Perhaps you could also PM globatron about this?
Edit: Flyer wifi.
Skills: extract/modify/reinstall system apks, tinkering with android files, stuff like that.
I have already pm'd globatron. I'm hoping he's interestedm

I can be a tester. I consider myself a power user. Have been on android since the G1 and know my way around adb and fastboot.
If you guys are going to be a tester, I need to know your device (View or Flyer [3g or Wifi only for flyer])
I am a best buy WiFi flyer

I can give a hand out with is needed. I consider myself to be a general user, kang'er, and someone who likes to poke around with the system apk's. Using the HTC Express/View here.
I can help out with Java or C++ code or other Android ROM work , depending on what you are building. My time is somewhat limited depending on my everyday job.
Glad to see we actually have a coder now! DigitalMD, I would like you to be the general coder for us. Are you interested?
I have the best buy wifi only flyer.
I'll test for the US Wifi Only. I can also do small mods. Nothing big, as I'm not an experienced dev at all, but I would love to help if you need it.
If you need it, I can test. BB WiFi Flyer.
I see a few people have offered, so if you have enough testers already, you can tell me. My feelings will remain intact.

And received. Frankly, I don't know if I have the time to do justice to a team effort. I'll consider it over the weekend and let you know on Monday or Tuesday.
It would mean alot if you joined globatron, you're probably one of the better (best) devs in this community and it would be great to work with you as well as help us make the community a bit more dev friendly. Anyway, thanks for atleast considering it. If you ever need anything, feel free to let me know regardless.

What's up fellow Evo 3Ders??
Let me first start off by introducing myself. I'm BThomas22x, and up until today, I Developed exclusively for the Samsung Epic 4G. This has obviously changed though, because today I got myself an Evo 3D, and will now be Developing for this device as well. If you guys need any credentials for anything I've done, feel free to go to the Epic 4G Dev section and just look me up. I've done numerous things for the community, such as: porting Ubuntu, Developing ROM's, Developing Kernels, and countless contributions to Mods and helping other Developers with their ROMs, and/or Kernels. I actually have a friend that came to the 3D as well, Sniperkill, if anyone is familiar with him, feel free to ask him as well. Now, onto the reason for this thread.
Since I will be developing for the 3D now as well, I'm going to need a team. I prefer to have people that actually have experience, however, experience is not necessary. To be completely honest, if you don't have any experience, I will personally work with you to start you out on themes or something simple. Also, as of right now, I do NOT have a team name. My team is Team Viper for the Epic, but seeing as how someone already has that team name for the 3D, I will have to think of something else. Once the team is created, we will, as a team, decide on a name, unless I think of something really cool before then lol . Anyways, If you are interested, you can reply to this thread, or you can shoot me a PM. Give me a little something you've done, or if you have no experience, let me know and we'll work on getting you started.
Thank you all, I appreciate the time you took to read this. Feel free to hit me up any time, even if you're not interested in joining, and you just have a question. I believe in having a strong community spirit, and maintaining a drama free forum. There were some issues in the Epic forums with people being demanding or just causing drama with the few Dev's there were, so hopefully this community is a bit more peaceful lol. The only rules that I have for the team are actually really simple. They're the same rules for the entire XDA site. If you use someone else's work, give them credit, as well as please be respectful of other Developers as well. This is a community, so let's work together and make one of the best phones on the market even better.
Thanks again guys,
BThomas22x

The force is strong within this one. Anyhow, my knowledge in regards to android development is poo, but I am thinking of self teaching myself.
Wouldnt mind helping out. I'm pretty good at theming, just learned how to make skins, and learning new things. Also know how to make splash screens.

I'm actually quite interested now. You seem like a great guy who's really willing to help out the less knowledgeable, I have a feeling this might be really cool to do
I am interested but my knowledge of android isn't that great however I am self taught computer builder/fixer and I have programed in Basic, C++, Perl and others probably not worth mentioning all self taught though (Right now my programing skill is weak as I haven't done any in 10+ years) but I am a super fast learner and would love a little guidance to give some back to this great forum.
I will happily join. I'm not much if a developer, but I want to learn more. I have designed websites and could learn rom theming, and with time can learn devoloping.
P.s. are u going to stick to snake names for the team name?
Sent from my 3devo...s-off was found lurking in the girls room, tricky?
I know very little and when I say very little I mean nothing lol. But I am willing to learn. If that counts. My profession is in It and system admin. Also I run a Pc repair business on the side. Self taught all the way. Only been dealing with android for a little over a year and a half. Started with my hero and now I'm on the 3d. If your team can use a guy Like me then I'm all in. I got time and dedication. Figure I can sleep when I die.
Locked & Loaded
I'll help, I guess. I know nothing fancy about developing, but I have made a theme and an app.
PM me If you want a noob with (possible) potential.
I dont know crap, but im bored with alot of time on my hands and would love to learn about cooking up Roms. Count me in.
I Haz 3D!
I've screwed around with kernels, ROMs, and such, but never actually built and flashed one. I'm still learning from resources on this site and elsewhere. I would love to help you out, and learn alot in the process. PM me if I could be of use. Or, [email protected]

HEY BT!!! It's awesume to see you developing over here for the E3D!!
Let me tell you guys this, BThomass22x is a VERY talented developer! If any of you know, he was the chief developer for viperROM for the Epic 4g. His Roms were FAST, stable, and very well themed! A VERY talented developer!
It's good to hear from you again BT!!

I am very intresting and would love to join! I dont have much knowledge but I am a quick learner
If you still need help, I'm down. I started on the OG EVO and built my own roms and themed them too, as well as compiled my own AOSP rom for it. I don't have much knowledge with Sense 3.0 yet but got a base rom last night to start ripping up and customizing. Also, I'm ridiculously keen on Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, so I could help with making sigs for the team or making cool wallpapers for the ROM.
It would take me a while to catch on to customizing ROMs for Sense 3.0 simply because I'm used to the OG EVO but would be happy to help.
hey there everybody!!! Real proud owner of the Photon and while I really like it alot I would love to see some CM7 action on this beast. Just wondering if anybody else would be interested in have CM7? Perhaps if we show the devs that there is a nice size group of peeps interested maybe they will start on it if they haven't already.
Hit the poll up and let's see what kind of results we get. Let's try to encourage the devs to do it!!!
Edit: looks like there is at least one dev that I can see who is starting work on porting CM7 to the Photon. Let's give him all the support we can and let him know we appreciate him for his work!!

Yes whoever is responsible for it, just talk to the Atrix guys. Its very very similar. With a few changes the current prebeta3 of the atrix would probalby boot on our photon

Stock photon isn't bad, but I still feel it has a lot going on running in the background I can do without, im just afraid of deleting something that's tied into the framework. ASOP would scream on this phone.
Who is the dev? And I have talked to 4 devs from the miui forums and a few cm7 devs from xda and it seems the only thing thats holding them back from getting the photon is $$$ many are college students stretching the little they have for food. So I can say this, if we could some how start a bounty with a goal large enough to purchase a few phones for those that are willing to port miui/cm7/sense to this beast...endless development would be on the horizon.

There's one thing that would make it perfect -- a tweak to the behavior of ScrollView so it always scrolls/pans the contents some whole multiple of two pixels. This would effectively solve the blur/shimmer problem caused by the RGBW PenTile display.
Scrolling NOW causes black text on white backgrounds to shimmer when it moves by one pixel because it's oscillating between getting rendered by 1 (W) and 3 (RGB) subpixels. If you snap to even offsets, you'll ensure that a pixel that starts out being rendered by a RGB triad is still rendered by a RGB triad after moving, and a pixel that starts out being rendered by a bWr triad is still rendered by a bWr triad after moving. Scrolling will be a tiny bit less smooth, but at least then the text won't shimmer and blur.

If any dev wants they can ask the gentle man turl here:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/661-m...7-exp-cyanogenmod-7-1-atrix-pre-beta-4-a.html
he said with a photon kernel and simple changes the CM7 for atrix should boot on Photon. Its very stable.
i know nothing about modding unfortunately, but he said:
'Anyway, it will need a bit of tweaking to get it started, like actually using a photon kernel and renaming the init file.'
'To boot it on a photon and be able to use sensors, ril, etc you will need to use a kernel built for photon. You can build one with the source code provided by Motorola.'
Can someone take a look into this, i feel we can have some CM7 build running quickly if someone comitts, the best i can do is form a bounty or donate, and im ready to do that to whoever leads this ship
porting cm7 is easy, takes files from one repo and git them in another repo....
but seriously guys if it was so easy as taking the atrix rom and mixing it with th ephoton kernel and 99.9% of everything worked out of the box, dont you think it would have been done? wimax, gps, mms, sms, voice, data, etc etc is all going to be controlled by the radio and as such even if the atrix cm7 got EVERYTHING else working, chances are most of you bought the photon to use/have one of the six things i just listed
I wouldn't mind seeing CM7 as long as I can use WiMax. I'm assuming Cyanogen would give us slightly better battery life since it doesn't have any Moto dependencies working in the background.

here is the problem with that, the evo had the first use of wimax and when they tried to get it in cyanogenmod they had to struggle for a long time (also offer a huge bounty). samsung phones, the epic and the nexus both have wimax in cm7 working flawlessly.. due to teh nexus being aosp. now here is motos first crack with wimax.. depending on how they did it,,, we may never see cyanogenmod with wimax

I'm not much of a ROM dev, but I am a app dev. It is very time consuming and you gotta have a passion for it. I am thankful for the devs here. I've donated money and helped devs when I could. Thanks to all the awesome devs. If any dev ever needs an extra programmer, I'm here to help if I can. I know Java, Android, and was a PhotoShop professional for 7+ years. I started developing because I wanted to be able to make my own ROMs so I can add the features I want and not have to be dependent of another developer to get those features. I also like to help people and with XDA I am able to help people who share the same passion I have.

Couldn't agree more with these, it takes a lot of patience and dedication to make things work the way you intend them to. When i flash stuff on my phone made by other devs and show people what i've changed, everyone goes "thats pretty sweet".
But then it actually upsets me that i actually really do enjoy all this and yet im studying subject that have nothing to do with computing (accounting, Economics ). Its too late to go back now and re-do A-levels and start computing, but i guess i just have to carry on what im doing, learning little by little everyday about android, coding e.t.c and maybe later on re-visit computing.
On a plus side, i have started reading through tutorials on internet to learn to code, i also tried to port a CDMA rom to GSM for myself to use (Failed), and was also thinking of making a basic app to see if i could actually do it! (Key word is thinking not actually doing)
And to think i've got so involved in all this, with a community that i managed to find after getting my trusty old desire, learning the basics on how to root and s-off. learning the basics of ADB. I'm very pleased with what i've learnt in 2 years yet i feel like i can learn much more and i will thanks to of course everyone here, especially the Devs and the people that write up long tutorials for people to learn from.
Maybe a few years down the line, ill release my own ROM or crack the Hboot of a device (Yeh dream on) But who knows
Thanks a million Developers

Also, developing apps, roms and stuff is very interesting actually, once u try it ur deep into it...
Old age of programming where it had lack of visual and u were just typing all the ugly code manually then trying to run it for months is over. Now it's very interesting, like narcotic, once u tried it and understood something, you will get addicted..

A few years of getting into development can get you a long way. Sure, it wont help on getting ICS to our 3Ds quicker, but it could help you in getting LTE on AOSP working on your Holographic Evo LTE++. Or you could get to work on that one app you always wished existed.
I'd recommend starting out with C/C++. Learn Java AFTER C++. I'm not sure where you could get started as I learned most of my stuff from classes, but a few textbooks/online tutorials sound like a good starting point.

Too add onto this. You can also follow my tutorials in my signature to learn how to compile source code for AOSP or CM. It will get you familiar with using a command line as well as teach you about how Android comes together if you read some of the files and try working out errors along the way as you compile the source.

Thank you for adding me to the list of developers. I really appreciate it, even though I consider myself more a MODder or hardcore tinkererererer lol.
The true developers are that of the TeamWin, Revolutionary, AOKP, CyanogenMOD, and MIUI teams. Brilliant minds at work here!
Amen fella!

I agree with freeza here.
I started doing my own mods, themes and roms because, as dastin said, it gets tough having to rely on someone else to make what *you* or how *you* want it to look. Half the fun and a great learning technique is, finding an awesome mod, whether from another ROM, or even from a different device, and reverse engineering it.
That's how I got my start with finding the passion for developing. Sure, tutorials are great, but they offer little info about how or why changing 'this' makes it do 'that'.
Any aspiring developers/modders...the best advice I can offer is to learn from other peoples triumphs, by ripping it to shreds and seeing/figuring out how it works. It will give you a sense of satisfaction, but also provide building blocks for your own personal 'dev'ing' endeavors

I agree. Learn C++ first and Java is so much easier to learn.

Dear Yasir, Atis112, Prototype-U, ckpv5, MaartenXDA, xpirt, The Android Manual and fellow devs,
I have downloaded all your ROMs and installed them faithfully on my phone. However I must express my utter disappointment that these ROMs aren't running Key Lime Pie. Why are you so lazy?
Also, my phone does not turn into an umbrella when it's raining. WTF is this? How can you ignore such basic stuff? It doesn't walk my dog, or chop my vegetables. I wanted to use my phone as a lightsaber to impress all my friends, but can I do this with your ROMS? No!
You use excuses like: "We don't have kernel sources from HTC", and manage to give us a measly 4.2.2 ROM / Sense 5 themed ROM / Sense 4+ Full / CM 10.1 instead!? Really it's just that you are not listening to us, your non-paying customers. Why should we donate to you or support your work when we can't even play the latest PS4 / Xbox One games on our Desire X. Is that too much to ask?
So, please get with the program, and make us some awesome ROMs with no new sources and nothing but endless hours of hacking and slashing at code to work with. We promise to do nothing but moan at you and suggest how you should spend your volunteer time and efforts.
Sincerely,
A random noob

Sense 5 ROM...? Where!?
Haha. Nice one OP. A very unique way of thanking.
Your welcome. I hope we will get more devs with time and then you might get more distractions, like fully working cmx and bug free sense 5.
And I would include even more people like maartenxda, xpirt, TAM, who are making each day better than last.

OP - very well said mate, most of us are acting this way and want everything not for today, not for tomorrow but for yesterday.
Most members are asking for ETAs everyday, when its been said many times not to do so, many members are moaning about non working stuff, without donating, without thinking that this is what Development means - stuff being fixed needs time, time which our not many, but working devs need to spend for us, not for their private life.
So i agree with you and i wish all of us to be more friendly and more patient with the development and developers we have here.
Thanks for this one. You should become a news writer on XDA Portal creating an article about the missing kernel sources for JB...

There's a serious point to this post, which is that there are people who are making attacks against devs, criticising people's efforts while having made no contributions themselves, and generally going against the spirit of XDA (that is to foster a community of people committed to learning and developing together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy). So stop with the moaning and the whinging. the ad hominem attacks, and the armchair developer schtick. Give developers the respect they deserve. They volunteer their time and energy on the things they choose to. They don't owe us anything.

I agree with you. All people who don't like dev's work can learn and make by themeselves.
I respect all dev's work like @neXus PRIME one because he made all recoveries for us and we have to be grateful to him.

Why the hell aren't you a news writer? Seriously, I have seen some of your posts - like the ROM reviews - and they're post by post AWESOME. It'd be great if the rest of the forum could join the happiness of reading your posts!

Ikr, his use of language is perfect for articles and reviews, you should ask for a position at xda portal if that's possible

some of the names mentioned above arent even devs :S
^
exactly why this thread was made, they may not be "devs" but they are still dedicating plenty of personal time to you and all others here, they made things noone else would do and let everyone to benefit from it, further development included, they are pushing desire x in others eyes up, they should be thanked, not labeled as "not dev, pfff"...
Exactly, lack of respect, they may not be a developer but sure they release amazing modded Roms.
Deal with it fella.

Right guys, this thread is FOR DEVELOPMENT only, and not asking for ROM "help"
This is for me and other people who are able to use GIT to assist with getting this damned device rolling, more people, the better. WE WILL get this done.
what the plan is.
WE NEED to use the proper audio drivers, not the one's the enrc2b\endevarou use. (Inter x+ and inter hox)
there has been "some" progress here, but i'm going to need you guys help.
Make pull requests for changes.
you'll need from here https://github.com/nightlies
tegra-common
device_htc_evitareul
vendor_htc_evitareul
kernel_htc_evitareul <--- WIP BRANCH ONLY
there MIGHT be some changes i'm missing on these, let me know
REMEMBER DEVELOPMENT ONLY AND NO ETA'S AND SO ON OR SUPPORT
this is the bug tracker guys, USE THIS if your supporting me, and i'll add you onto the list on the tracker, so you can add\remove as a developer
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod-evitareul/issues/list
ANYONE adding me and asking for tech support will be given alot of abuse
Lloir I would love to help but I don't have the skills or time to Dev. If you need a good solid tester I would be more than happy to do that it is a little bit easier on my life then being a Dev.

Hey Lloir, I am interested in helping out, although my skills in the development are lacking or next to non-existant. Not sure if there is anything I can do, but if you can guide me as to what you need, done. I have the next two weeks before I travel again, so I got some fsir amount of free time. Thanks again for working with us (looked down upon) ATT users.
