In stand by mode my battery drains for 1% per hour and when m using 3G and browsing then i drains about 13% per hour.....
I use task killer to kill background apps and keep brightness to balance condition
Also i keep my network to GSM only i.e to 2G when i don't want to surf net
It help me to get more battery life and i only need to charge once in a day

Does the next update (2.1) somehow include a way to improve battery? I'm guessing no, wouldn't you need to replace the battery itself?
There may be battery performance improvements in the next update. My battery life is actually stellar. I set Timescape to update every 3 hrs and have brightness at about 75%. Off the charger at about 7am and at midnight that night I'm usually at around 40%. That's plenty good enough for me.

I dunno about the update and battery life but, Its 100% to 20% in 25-27 hours for me which i think is awesome as my usage is high.
Try setting the updates of your apps lower, check the Batt usage history from the settings menu to see what sucks the juice more.
If you want more battery life then you'll have to sacrifice some updates, which according to me ruins the entire purpose of having such a high-end smart Android device. Just use the phone the way you like it, have the charger with you always
Whatever phone you choose i think you are going to have this issue since batt usage depends solely upon the way you use your phone. In 2.1 live wallpapers suck more juice so you'll be advised to turn it off its either functionality or performance, the decision is yours
According to me any phone u buy will have same battery life or there is 70% Probability to have worst battery life. X10 has one the best battery life amongst all smartphones

Hmm... could it be just me? My battery went from 100% to 53% from just staying locked over night (around 9 hours). I checked what's been eating it and it said "Cell Standby" and "Display". My brightness is on the lowest possible and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is constantly off. I'll check that Timescape stuff and try to get the App Killer from the Market... (if my device even had a market!).
nah this device is ****ed up ...
sony homepage says that standby time is around 450 hours .... (more then 17 days!)
i dont have timescape on autoupdate - the only thing i do is gmail push and i get 1 and maybe 1/2 day(s) of standy time (depends if i make 1 call or not )
the update should increase it a lot i think
btw if some1 has a 2nd phone please try this:
charge it fully and then turn it off completely ... after 17 days turn it on ... my bet is it wont turn on coz the akku is totally empty...
I have no Wi-Fi at my hotel and I don't have a data plan. How on earth does it drain this much battery. I'm gonna go turn off every app and try another night just on standby.
Have a read of these...

Good question for you actually, how long have you had the phone? my first 4-5 charges were appauling but it quickly got better and now i could not be happier. more often than not getting 7am - 11pm the next day (whats that, 40 hours or so?) out of one charge, with plenty of go left.
Mine is running RB##26 firmware, rooted and a chunk of apps deleted though.
When i first got mine it was a bit poo, remember for the first 5 or so charges to let the battery go down pretty low and it will improve battery life.
Get runcpu and you're golden.

Sounds like you're running 014 firmware - I had the exact same problem until I updated to 020. The whole battery usage profile changed and one hour of standby only uses up 1-2%.
yeah, the 020 u/g makes a difference. I've rooted and overclocked mine, heavy usage on 3g can drain the battery in c12 hours but more than adequate for general usage
I'm a big user. Even with my G1, I was happy with a day's use. Anyone who thinks they're gonna get days of use without a charge is kidding themselves. A smart phone with a big screen us gonna suck juice regardless of what you do. As many an XDA user will tell you, keep your charger or at least the cable with you wherever you are. With FW026 it did help a little, but if you need life from your battery you really do need to sacrifice some of your widgets or updates.
MrZ
Today my battery have gone to 10% in about 10/11 hours, i'm using sip and wireless are active all day, even when it are on standby, installed some apps and played some games, some calls, its good enough, sometimes i get 2 days, depends on what you do, you can do some tricks...
SOMEONE !! HELP !!
I need to find out which ROM has the best battery life, can someone point me in the right direction pls....
Thanks
Ian
Try them all. It all depends on how you use your phone. There's no magical rom with great battery life.
If you use your phone a lot, go for a ROM which isn't overclocked.
If you want the longest idle time before recharge, I think you should set the "conservative" governor as a screen off policy and you will be fine. Of course you can also disable features such as data but you will loose many useful features of your phone. Unlike what some people says, disabling GPS doesn't improve battery life as it isn't used except when you start an application which use it.
Battery life is most affected by the screen light.
And with every rom you have to callibrate your battery. Most people with poor battery life haven't done this.
The Froyo roms are the best options because the are faster and less stressing for the juice.

They all have the same battery life (give or take 5 minutes)
All pretty similar.
Use an underclocked kernel, play around with brightness settings or use an app such as ultimate juice / juice defender to regulate 3g / wifi usage

How to callibrate my battery??
My Hero just lasts two Days with 691mhz Flykernel 11 and Elelinux 2.1 and no 3g.
I just hear a lot of music with it, connect it a few to wifi and play some games in the school.....
How long does your batteriest last?

You say two days without a charge with occasional wifi use (wifi on, screen on, phone signal on), and games playing (sound on screen on, processor busy) like it's a bad thing...
Since the mid 2000s phone capabilities have been surpassing battery performance at a remarkable rate. With the advent of the iphone and the gaining popularity android smartphones, phone feature demands have exploded while battery technology just isn't anywhere near providing the kind of battery life we expected on our dumb phones, ie, don't bother packing a charger for a two week holiday if you charge up before you leave.
This is a large reason why new technology is being created with more efficient manufacturing processes, smaller dies, etc etc, as it is easier to reduce power consumption at this time than it is to build slim, cheap, high capacity batteries.

Mine struggles to get a day battery life, with not very heavy useage... how do i calibrate my battery?
i use my phone outdoors mainly on weekends..when going out partying etc.
within 12 hours..the battery level becomes so low..that many times i was stuck on the road because i had no way to call a taxi because my phones battery was dead.
-standby time has increased a lot with updates...its good
-but the actual usage time is ridiculously low.....if i keep using WhatsApp or texting people...the phones battery drops really fast.
and if i am gaming..i usually do it with the charging cable plugged in...like a laptop.
i can never even think of watching videos or listening to music on my phone..the battery level falls visibly fast.
so have you guys found any solution?
is there a better battery out there?
is there any app?
is there any secret battery life sucking app? (i disable face recognition)
I am scared to buy a bluetooth headset..because phones battery will be dead within 5-6 hours if i use bluetooth

buy an extended battery ..sure it bulks the phone up but the lifespan of the battery is worth it if your a heavy user
read the thread here
I bought one (cameron sino 2600 mah) and I've gone from paltry 5'ish hrs a day to 30-40+ hrs at its best (dependent on usage) ..
Altho I've absolutely hammered it a couple of times testing it to its limits using bluetooth wifi and gps and more than normal brightness I still got almost 12+ hrs lol
I would say its a definite investment for me anyway
A top tip for battery saving is manually check emails or twitter etc (unless you really need it to self check) .... instead of auto notifications this will stop the phone using battery power when your not using it yourself
Also if your connection switches on the move from H/3G to G/E then it will also consume more battery
r u using se firmware or roms? i have better battery life with roms than i had with se firmware.

maybe carrying an extra battery can help you (not a charging pack, but an extra x10 fully charged battery)
the battery won't be much impresive after optimize
becuz i've optimized mine, it work the same
very bad performance
i think you should calibrate your battery as mentioned here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943626
I calibrated it yesterday and my battery life almost got doubled
I bought a second battery and an SE EP-900 charger!
Now, I am never short of battery life, without the extra bulk!
The reason i start this post is to gather experiences and facts about Xperia P's battery life.
Sony was advertising that the compination of Novathor and Whitemagice results to almost 50% less need in power energy for the mobile and for that reason the battery of 1305 mAh is enought.
My opinion is that Sony has ultimately failed in this part.
My phone:
Rom : 6.0.B.3.162 (i dont have the signal drop problem)
network : WCDMA (3g)
Data: always on
Ayto sunch: Always Off
Live Wallpaper: No
Battery life: 10-13 hours
I usually use my cellphone for calls / texting / whatsapp/facebook. The thing that use my battery the most is always Display (always 60%-70% of battery) and the hour that the dispay is active, is 1h 30min to 2h 10mins. The average talking time per charge is 30m - 50 mins.
I usually charge my phone twice a day but if i use it for games or internet or photographs i have to charge it three times per day.
I m waiting for the ICS in order to see some battery life improvement . If i dont , then i ll sell it.

ICS will further drain the battery faster.
This is the worst thing i feel with my Xperia S.
10-13 hrs is good by your usage..
If you've rooted your phone, you could reduce your clock speeds to reduce battery drain
May I ask why you have your data turned on most of the time?

I dont think that 10-13 hr is good by my usage ... My previous phone SE Arc was up to 17-20 hours with heavier usage.
I have data all the time turned on because i use Whatsapp and facebook messenger instead of SMS .
Even though the WhiteMagic and Novathor combo does give the impression of being more energy efficient, but at the same time, Sony guys could have thrown in a 1700-1800 mAh battery which would have been brilliant!! After all, of what practical benefit to the customers is making it more energy efficient left, if they cut down the capacity to level it up with the same backup as earlier with less efficient chip? !!

For those who are using a moto X40 converted to Edge 40 Pro (or even a stock X40/Edge 40 Pro), how's the standby battery drain? Mine is around 1% per hour with dual 4G sims active, and with Peek Display enabled. However I think the standby drain is a bit too high for my liking and checking through the Android battery stats it seems like Mobile Network is taking a good chunk of the battery's power consumption.
I may be overthinking things though as I only had this phone for a couple of days :/
i don't care about battery drain, but i came from a iphone 13 pro max with 100 % of battery health, wich i still own, and this Moto like iphone gives me more than 2 days of battery, i'm not a heavy user, and with wifi at home endurance is better
