Hey,
I'm running CM7 on a lg p509, and everything is perfect, just a small question. My upload rate when connected by hsdpa seems to be limited to 0.13MB/s, while download is fine , always above 1MB. Is there something with the radio, different phone version (p509 instead of p500)? I'm sure its something to do with my phone since I just tried my friends on the same network and his upload was higher. I don't think I ever flashed a new band, so its still on original radio. Just new rom, and on mobilicity in canada.
thanks for any help

HSDPA is for high speed downloading while for high speed uploading,u need HSUPA which our phone doesnt have. This is the reason why uploading speed is less.
Our phone does'nt support
HSUPA-high speed uplink packet access
(responsible for high speed data upload)
Our phone only support
HSDPA - high speed downlink access
Sent from my LG-P500
CosmIcEXperia v3.1
goldenleaf-111206-LG
wow thats kinda weird. It doesnt really matter to me since I barely upload anything, but even my brothers crappy motorola spice has hsupa.

I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Do you mean HSDPA?
(downlink - tower to phone)
or
HSUPA
(uplink - phone to tower)?
Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

well as u see i am new at this. i read a lot from these forums since i love the htc product. but i don't know how to tether or anything like that. i just installed the radio i just displayed hoping to be able to get 3g speed. but it stays at edge at all times.

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

i looked into the hdw side of things ... it looked like it is compatible according to the specs. i did notice there r some firmware update on htc that was released this yr. i'll have to look into that.

i thought of that too. that this rom my not have the 3g icon, but from time to time it will show "G" and then back to "E". and as far as i know ... i shough have close to 300kbs or more for downspeed. and i right?
thanks everyone for all of ur input. i'll look into all of it and get back to u. thx again.
If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.
I've always had good luck with my radio [see signature]
EDIT
----
I am going to be testing each and every baseband this week using speedtests from the Mobile Speedtest app, and mobilespeedtest.com. with and w/o the 3g enhance buildprops. I will test these at 3 locations. My home, home work, and wherever I seem to be alot, to see how results change.
so far.

.54i

--
I am using AT&T, and live not to far from Atlanta.
Originally I bought my phone using only baseband .49, then eventually .52, then stayed on .54 for quite a while. They all seemed to be quite the same, I don't recall when it was x10a or i, but one of them was an x10i baseband, and I always had great service. Even when I was in 2GAtlanta.
For the past week and a half I have had strange issues. Such as being able to call anyone except family members on the same plan, and them not being able to call me. I blame ATT for this. Then J's CM& crashed on me with bb .54, so I spent a day trying to try a new rom and basebands, and the whole day I got bars or no bars. No E, 3G, or H. I am very use to seeing an H, never 3g, and only E when I power control it off.
I reflashed .54a, and went back to wolf's rom, and had problems finding ATT and 3g H service. Eventually I learned to crash sys server, and that night after rexrecoery installing Wolfs rom step by step, i finally got a E, and later that night a few H's, but mostly E's in places I remember getting H speed at. I sat around unable to download apps or browse in the web at the speeds I normally would in those spots.
So i flashed .58, and everything seemed to barely change. More H, but never in my neighborhood, but I read bad reviews, so i wanted to try .55a. So I am on 55A, and now doing speedtests, that are either really high or really low, and I would be sitting in the same spot.
So here are the differences
X10I
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100 HSDPA 7.2 Mbit
X10A
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS800, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
HSDPA 10.2 Mbit
According to my research. Most towers and broadcasters in the U.S. and ATT rely on x10a. I've seen people ask if 3g will work on x10i bb on ATT. As far as i know E and H, do, i'm sure ive seen a 3g pop up.
So I want to collect some answers and information.
1. Should I stay with a x10a baseband as a ATT user in the U.S. If so, what is the preffered baseband to use at the moment
2. What are other ATT users using, and what kind of speed are you getting.
3. Is there a better build.prop setting than what is in the enhanced 3g thread?
1. from what your post says, its recommended but sometimes BB from the X10i works better, it just depends on the ROM and what BB you flash, like me i run .54i and it seems fine but....
2. currently running .54i on Wolfs CM ROM 4.5.7 and i've had some stability issues with internet while tethering on 3G, but i get full bars 100% of the time, i get about 3-4mbps of download speed and upload is 1.5mbps on speedtest
i recently dropped .58i because it shot my battery down like nothing but i had similar download results to .54i but i had no issues, it was stable 100% when i tether
3. as far as i know, no
and to help with your 3G issue, H is basically 3G but faster, if not its probably a replaced icon for 3G, been knowing this since Windows Mobile days

I assumed as Much about H. Seemed to be an international code not seen on stock US phones. Ill try .54i. ty
just keep in mind, .54i you might experience some internet issues unless thats me(due to the heavy rain the day before) if that doesnt work for you i suggest going to .55a or .54a, let me know because im planning on flashing a differen BB sometime tonight, preferably .55a
im on .55a, er was. just flashed .54i, seems to be a little fast. nothign too noticable. what are ways to test this besides speedtest.net?
i might go ahead and flash each one and see which gives me the better stats
you can try http://mobilespeedtest.com on your browser
and i recommend spending at least a full day or two on each baseband to see how it goes for you
and i just flashed .55a and its now stable for tethering and internet performance seems to be a bit better but it might be a placebo effect, and i dont know about battery though, ill report back tomorrow or the day after
I guess i'll report all the information from here to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976872
and begin testing every baseband this week whenever i go to work. I actually did multiple speedtests on my way to work where I know I deal with 2G, 3G and 3.5G
fair enough
will be doing test on my own as well
i looked at the thread you provided and it seems .54a seems to be the best, but thats from his test, and also location varies as well, so results might be different for you, compare to his and also some mentioned that Wolfs CM ROM could have 3g problems as well
although i will flash to .54a and test all day tomorrow and next day and back to .55a

.55 seems to be doing a lot better now, got a DL rate of 4000 outside.
I'm not to sure if Wolfs rom has a confirmed 3g problem, it does have a problem connecting/and finding network operator services. I hope he says something about it, because it was working fine on 4.3
Oh well. I just figured if i repeat the same routine and run tests in the same spots at the right time, day weather, and everything thing else exactly the same, results will start to make sense? I think I confused myself
Hi, I looked for this in all motorola forums but I couldn't find any real solution.
It seems the latest update to my home network (HSDPA to HSPA) is not well received by my phone. My battery is draining really fast since this upgrade.
Is there a way to enable ONLY HSDPA? I mean, HSPA is great for downloading and uploading, but battery life is really poor. I had very good battery life with HSDPA and I'd like to set my phone to this type of data connection.
Somebody told me to look for some entries in build.prop but I didn't find anything. Does someone know how to do it? Thanks

Hey, thanks for your help. Well, I'm not suffering battery draining for any other reason. I don't want to use 2G networks only. Just want to change HSPA to HSDPA. That way, I'll go back to having the usual battery consumption.
Any other suggestion?
HSPA is a term that encompasses High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) - if your network was using HSDPA, it was an HSPA network.
Enhanced HSPA (HSPA+) is an enhancement to HSPA that enables download speeds of up to 21Mbps and beyond, up from the typical 7.2Mbps. The Atrix is a 14.4Mbps compatible HSPA+ device.
So you saying you don't want HSPA, but want HSDPA doesn't make any sense. Do you want to disable the increased upload speeds? (HSUPA) or the HSPA+ speed enhancements? (up to 14.4Mbps) I know Samsung have an option to disable certain parts of the network through a hidden network, no idea about the Atrix though.

Yes, I want to disable HSUPA (what makes it HSPA) since it's killing my battery. I found a lot of info on Samsung phones but I don't know how to do it in a Motorola mobile
Sorry to bother again. Any solution yet to prevent phone from going on HSPA and stay in HSDPA? Thanks in advance
Just for your information, I found some build.prop tweaks to set HSDPA only, but none of them worked. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

BUMP... Still trying to set phone to HSDPA only... Any thoughts?
it can be done, it took me three weeks to figure this out. we had a flood come through here about three weeks ago and it did something to just one antenna on the tower, i dont know what it did but it prevented anybody using a phone on hsupa from using their internet on their phone, i called att multiple times on the issue with no fixing of the tower that was transmitting a bad hsupa signal, the same antenna was transmitting a good "3g" signal or "hsdpa" both of my 4g phones would work anywhere else in the world except for at my house where the bad hsupa signal was. so i knew i had to find a way to downgrade to hsdpa to get my phones operational again, no help from att as to when or even if they would fix the towers. att thought i was crazy because i was the only one complaining about it because everyone on 3g was unaffected, probably only a handful of houses on this one antenna, att locks you out of your phone from being able to go to 3g or 2g, all automatic. 3 weeks of this crap then one day i remembered when the atrix first came out hsupa was locked out, remember all the scoff att got for that one, so here's what i did to shut off hsupa and get my phone back running again:
1. make sure your bootloader is unlocked - not sure if this will brick your phone if it isn't
2. download these radio packages http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0LDOGFJ
3. flash the one radio that says att shipping radio or something like that through rsd lite (this is the original radio that shipped with the atrix) and don't worry its safe to flash if you are on gingerbread..
4. reboot your phone and you will be locked into 3g or hsdpa thus locking out hsupa
5. if you want to turn hsupa back on just flash the other file
this method worked great for me and got my phone working great again and no hsupa for me anymore until att gets the tower fixed which may be never since i'm probably the only one on this particular antenna with a hsupa phone.
all we need now is a nifty dev that can hack one of these radios to shut off automatic network selection for those of us that are stuck on it.

Hey pal, your method worked! After flashing the old radio, the phone is on HSDPA only and battery life is way better, back to Froyo times. I don't really care about the enhanced upload. Download speeds are as good as they were on HSPA.
Thanks a lot.
Can you please upload those radio again? I'm suffering the same thing with my atrix. Thank you.
Hello,
I'm in Europe, everything with my unlocked Atrix 4g is great, except slow data speed.
Well, sometimes it shows H+ icon and it's fast but often it shows E (edge) icon and that's really slow and I know here is good H+ coverage (at least 3g) because my friend with Samsung Ace have H+ speed all the time in this area.
Maybe it's because it doesn't support HSDPA 900Mhz?
I read somewhere that 900Mhz could be enabled somehow. Do you this this would help? To do this I have to unlock BL or not? I've just rooted stock atrix with webtop mod.
Thanks!
Which version? Froyo or GB?
Speedily sent from CM7 Beta
I'm on GB, everything stock just with webtop mod. Now I have H+ speed... Maybe clould be samsung ace have much better receiver... Who knows... In same place my friend download 2mb picture in 5-10secons, for me it's more like 50-60secons or even more.
Ok, NO Matter what tweaks I've done, I've never gotten my Vibrant to ever do better than 151kbps DL and the collective average is around, 61kbps DL I know I should be getting at least a Meg or more better. Just tired of seeing dial-up performance, when it should be better
I tried this tweak using root explorer, editing the first 10 lines of the data tweak. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151608?
Am currently using KB5 modem, always shows good signal strength, but the data thru-put sucks!!
Im using Simple Mobile, which is actually T-Mobiles network, I havent DL enough of anything to be capped, even though SMobile has it as unlimited, with no throttling!! And BTW when I was using T-Mobile still have always had slow data speeds and the same problem Im in right now!!
Also even when I'm in a known good area where it should be 3G it seems its always on Edge 2G!! Occasionally it'll show a "G" but it never seems to last long or make a difference in data speed!!
I've made sure the configuration in settings is set to GSM only. And this vibrant I know is capable of 3G frequencies!!
What suggestions or tweaks or script mods do I need to do to get this speed up to what it should be! Short of changing modems!!
Gsm=2g
wcdma=3g
