Just Another 12v Charger for ASUS Transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

Like a lot of folks with these Transformers, my power supply seemed to crap out on me. My buddy did this little modification to allow me to power my device with some spare parts that he had laying around the house. Figured I'd post it for anyone else with a $400 tablet and no current way to charge it.
Due to me not having 10 posts change the .... to .com

And yes I did do the whole putting the charger in the freezer to allow the thermal to reset. The freezer trick did reset it but this solution worked just fine while waiting for the charger to cool off.

I have not heard this method before. Do you literally stick the wall charger that came with the tablet in the freezer?

Yes, this resets the thermal fuse in the charger. Be sure to use a zip-lock plastic bag with the air pushed out and zipped shut. This will help protect the charger from getting moisture inside. 30 to45 minutes in the freezer should be enough to reset the fuse.
Hope this helps.

Is it safe to use immediately after removing from the freezer, or should I wait for some time before plugging it in?

I waited about 30 mins before using just to be on the safe side.

If you haven't done so yet make sure you pull the battery and make sure you know that everything is dry before trying again to power it up, If this does work, I mean the rice thing, Ill be amazed, but worth a try!! BTW not laughing at ya!!
This happens the #3rd most, compared to dropping it in the toliet#2 and smashing the glass#1

Unfortunately, no. In the worst case scenario, power on when wet can blow an entire circuit board. For now, take battery out and put in uncooked rice for 4-6 hours before you trying to power it on again. If that's no go, then T-mobile is your only recourse.

The phone is probably already toast. It probably shorted out. If not try this.
Maybe it's starting to rust inside or something.
Go to the grocery store, but "distilled water"
Come home, take your phone apart. Remove the screen and camera and capacitive buttons, set those aside.
Take the motherboard and rinse it several times with distilled water. Do a quick rinse with 50 percent solution of alcohol and distilled water, put it back into some distilled water and let it sit. Then let it dry for several days.
Put your phone back together and see if it works? Maybe rinsing it clean of residue will jump start it if it wasn't shorted.
I have no proof any of that will work though. lol

Dropped phone into water, weird battery issue

Hi,
So as the title say, my battery act very weird.
At first, it refused to charge through the charger. Took out battery and waited 10 min, then it charge, until 100%, unplug charger, and it still charging , never stop.
Took out battery again, waited 10 min, put it in, battery charging icon appear on screen with the little yellow triangle inside, cannot turn on phone. Then I plug charger in, now I can turn on the phone, but battery level now show 80% and notification : charging paused, voltage too high.
Could someone help me?
Thanks
P/s: It was happened last night, leave it over night and I can use the phone normally this morning though.

Oh. Good. Lord.
10 min is NOT ENOUGH TIME to let the thing dry after you dropped the whole thing into water. You probably screwed the pooch on this one.
If the phone is dropped in water, most people recommend taking the phone apart and putting all pieces into a bag full of uncooked rice and silica packages for at least a few (preferably up to 5) DAYS before attempting to reconnect battery.
Because you've reattached battery already after less than 1 hour TWICE, I'm betting you have shorted your mainboard beyond all repair.
Water + electronics isn't necessarily the kill factor. Water + electronics + electrical current (connected battery) BEFORE DRY = dead electronics.
You should leave the battery out of the SGS and put both in a bag with much rice or cat litter some days in a bag. No hair dryer or something like this.
It wasn't a good idea to connect the loader and to leave the battery in the mobile.
I have a friend with exactly the same problem, his daughter put the GS2 phone into water and then he put the battery out for ONE night only... now the phone says is charging when it's unplugged and sometimes the "car mode" activates by his own (i don't even know how to activate the car mode on my GS2) ....
we started to think that the problem will stay forever

You got lucky if yours isn't showing any ill effects after such a short dry time. Yours is an exception.

Well, i did have the same selfactivates problem like you for few min,It even turn it on after i put the battery in, without any action. But it gone now. The problem is that it keep saying charging and the notification keep pop up. I can overcome it by install AOKP or CM9 Rom which dont have that kind of notification. But still, my concern is how long can it take till it really dead?...

Start looking for a new phone now.
If you already shorted it, it's not going to go away. Electronics don't just heal themselves over time.
A repair shop may be able to replace parts with shorted components, but if many have shorts, it may not be worth it to fix, and may end up being more expensive to fix than to replace.
You should have left the phone to dry atleast for a solid 24 hours in a rice bag!
I put my old Sony Ericsson in the washing machine once (was in a pair of shorts) lol.
Of course I don't expect it to work... but I opened it up and took out battery etc... left it out to dry in the sun for few minutes (making sure it doesn't get too hot), then put in a nice dry place with dehumidifier. After a couple of days it worked again.
Now that is just lucky and it probably wouldn't last for long... but luckily I was going to buy a new phone at the time anyways.
Moral of the story... phones, or any electronics, are not waterproof unless stated that they are. You have to be more careful people... or get something like Invisible Shield.
do you think that the problem will go away if I got a new battery ??

How can you be confused about this? The issue is a short on one of the electronic components in the phone. Probably the mainboard. Getting a new battery won't address that.
Why not bring it in to some service center (or even some night market telephone tech guys) and have them check it out? Then they can tell you what needs replacing or if you're better off getting a new phone.

[Q] S2 thinks it is charging all the time

I had a minor incident the other night, whereby the (USB) end of my power charger got water on it. I dried it off instantly as best as I could. The phone itself has not come into contact with any water.
It still charged the phone fine... however after removing the charger at 100% the phone continued to say charging. I turned it off and removed the battery for some time. Upon putting the battery back in, the display showed the charging animation again even though it wasn't plugged in. At this point it wouldn't even turn on.
After multiple attempts I managed to get it switched on. But even now, 2 days later after a couple more charges, it still says it is charging when it isn't. The battery % is also depleting a lot quicker than normal.
I tried a factory reset, wiping and installing a new version of the AOKP ROM I use which fixed the issue temporarily... but as soon as I try charging it again, the charging animation won't go away. This happens even with a different charger all together or a USB cable.
Any ideas on fixing this, or is it time to claim on my insurance? Thanks!
may b the enternal is still not dried , actually wen wet its best to dry it in rice bag for a day or atleast 16,20 hrs then clean an use a sylte warm or cold blow so the moist drys out...so first open the back cover, battery ,sim,sd card an let the phone dry properly..cheeeerz
Thanks but as I say, the phone itself never got wet. Literally a minor amount got on the charger... not sure it is worth drying out a phone that never got wet?
but the end of the usb port is wet right so dont do the charging thing jus use a blow dryer let the thing dry out ,i had dropd my phone in luke warm water of bucket ,i removed it an took out battry, cover and kept in rice bag water was all inside cause wen i checked by shaking it ,i could see water coming then i used a blow dryer an dried it but i had kept it rice for hmmm i think only 2,3 hrs ...but i dint on it for 6hrs like tht....then the next day i powered it an all was fine ..accept the speaker at the back but i used a app tht was supposed to clean speaker, well i don kno weater it got well on its own or the app....well thts my story...m8
be careful with the hairdryer though i know people who have melted plastic drying with a hairdryer xD
did you actually found a way to fix it? i have this problem. and i havent been able to fix it.
Also my PC wont recognize the phone.
Try to clean the usbport. If it doesnt work it needs to be replaced. Its fairly easy and cheap.
Theres guides on youtube.
Well i didnt follow a guide on youtube i just opened it used a toothbrush and alcohol and after with a bottle of suter and it kinda worked, the computer recognizes it but the charging thing is still on.
Im gonna check out the youtube videos.
Thanks!

Gtab won't charge

:crying: So this is the first time in a while I have posted here. But annoyingly enough my Gtab (for the second time) has not been taking charge. It will turn on when plugged it (but no red light) so I assume its the battery that won't take a charge. The last time this happened I formatted it, then nvflashed it, and let it sit for 24 hrs before charging. I will try that again but any help or input is appreciated
One of my Gtabs doesn't charge very well either. The charging pin is messed up and will only charge when I plug it in and prop it in a certain way. Sometimes the red light turns off, sometimes it stays on but still doesn't charge. Eventually I will have to re-solder the connection, but have been putting it off. If you cannot fix it by other means (try a different charging cable? reflash as you suggested?) here is a good set of instructions on how to do this.

Good luck and I hope it doesn't come to this. You could also buy a charging dock if you don't want to tear apart and solder your tablet. Also, here is some info on battery replacement if that turns out to be your problem.

+1 to DaggerDave's suggestion.
From my research the Gtabs power plug is very VERY flimsy. I've had to solder mine back on (and a hefty amounts of glue) and now it works fine, though I treat it very delicately. The dock is going at around $50 on fleabay (search malata/gtab dock)

tthats really good information thanks!
but i did get it to work. I opened up my tablet and checked to make sure the battery was plugged in its socket thing. Guess what. it wasnt.
It probably became loose when i had to open it up to fix my screen. So all i did was reattach it and put a small piece of electrical tape over it, just in case.

[Q] Battery not charging.

So, to start this off my rezound fell into a pool with me. Rushed and did the usual steps for drying it out and all that. The battery was the only thing that took water damage according to the sensor. So I bought a new one and it won't charge the battery. The one time I got the phone on it read 0% charged after sitting for 6 hours. Now it's either blinking orange or staying orange for around 5 seconds. Is there anything I can do?

Sounds like your phone is damaged, the old battery was probably fine, the water indicator is there to let Verizon know the phone had water damage when people try to warranty them...
I'd throw it in a bag of rice a little longer, see if there's any more moisture stuck in it, otherwise it's time for a new phone...
I had a similar situation, minus the water, but you might try pulling the battery out and charging it manually with a power supply set to supply 5 V and current limited to 1 A. Let it charge like that for 20 min and try putting it in the phone again. If it still will not work, then it could be that the leads on the phone that connect to the battery are corroded and need to be cleaned.

How would I go about doing this?

I take that to mean you don't have access to a variable voltage power supply. Not a problem, but it would help if you at least have access to a voltmeter or multimeter. You would need to plug in your charger with cable and test each of the leads to see which two have 5 V across them. Then attach wires to both and the other end of each wire to the positive and negative leads on the battery itself. I would use a different cable (not micro-usb) so that the leads are larger and easier to access. If you cannot do this, then you could use a stand-alone battery charger like this:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...peId=12852&accessoryId=48042&initialPhoneId=0
But that would require you to buy one, which may be a waste if the phone is actually the problem. But if you do buy it and it turns out the phone is the problem, you could keep the receipt and get a refund.
As far as clean the leads on the phone, you could try mixing baking soda and water (little water) into a thick paste and scrubbing with a tooth brush. The paste will need to sit on the metal leads for some time (30 mins to 2 hours depending). Then use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) on tissue to clean any remaining garbage/residue. Then you will need to let it dry again, ideally in a sealed container with silica or rice. I would probably leave it in there for at least 24 hours.
If both of these don't fix the problem, then you probably have either shorted some internal circuitry or have some other corrosion inside the phone somewhere.
Well I really can't try that suggestion broke college student and all. Thanks though.
You can get this external charger cheap. I have it, works fine:
