So, to start this off my rezound fell into a pool with me. Rushed and did the usual steps for drying it out and all that. The battery was the only thing that took water damage according to the sensor. So I bought a new one and it won't charge the battery. The one time I got the phone on it read 0% charged after sitting for 6 hours. Now it's either blinking orange or staying orange for around 5 seconds. Is there anything I can do?

Sounds like your phone is damaged, the old battery was probably fine, the water indicator is there to let Verizon know the phone had water damage when people try to warranty them...
I'd throw it in a bag of rice a little longer, see if there's any more moisture stuck in it, otherwise it's time for a new phone...
I had a similar situation, minus the water, but you might try pulling the battery out and charging it manually with a power supply set to supply 5 V and current limited to 1 A. Let it charge like that for 20 min and try putting it in the phone again. If it still will not work, then it could be that the leads on the phone that connect to the battery are corroded and need to be cleaned.

I take that to mean you don't have access to a variable voltage power supply. Not a problem, but it would help if you at least have access to a voltmeter or multimeter. You would need to plug in your charger with cable and test each of the leads to see which two have 5 V across them. Then attach wires to both and the other end of each wire to the positive and negative leads on the battery itself. I would use a different cable (not micro-usb) so that the leads are larger and easier to access. If you cannot do this, then you could use a stand-alone battery charger like this:

But that would require you to buy one, which may be a waste if the phone is actually the problem. But if you do buy it and it turns out the phone is the problem, you could keep the receipt and get a refund.
As far as clean the leads on the phone, you could try mixing baking soda and water (little water) into a thick paste and scrubbing with a tooth brush. The paste will need to sit on the metal leads for some time (30 mins to 2 hours depending). Then use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) on tissue to clean any remaining garbage/residue. Then you will need to let it dry again, ideally in a sealed container with silica or rice. I would probably leave it in there for at least 24 hours.
If both of these don't fix the problem, then you probably have either shorted some internal circuitry or have some other corrosion inside the phone somewhere.

I have X10 that i bought from a friend. Last month i dropped it when i was on the beach. I Quickly remove the battery and wash it with clean water because i heard that salt water will damage my phone.then i leave it to air for about 2 days, I didn't dissasemble it because i was affraid. Then after 2 days i power up my phone then it backs to normal (there is some kind of water trace on the screen but everything works normal).
After about a week, i charged it but it won't charge at all. I have to remove the battery,put it back after 5 mins and recharge to do it. After about a month I was playing mp3 using headset and went to sleep but what i found on the morning is my phone turned off. I thought the battery has run out of power, I charged it but nothing happens,even the LED won't show a red light. I brought it to SE but they won't repair it because my friend bought this phone at hongkong not in my country. I decided to fix it my self,i tear down the phone and found that the cover of the ICs are rusty, not all of the cover but only some. I try to plugged in the charger to the micro usb slot on that teared down condition and what i found is the power management IC (qualcomm PM7540) got hot.
Could anybody help me?what should I do?
Did you stick it in uncooked rice. I did it when I dropped mine in sanitized water. Left it in for a full 24 hours and my x10 works like a charm. Try it. Just be careful to get ALL the rice out before powering it back up.

thx for your reply,i have tried it last night.but only for a night because I'm sure that it is already dried ( I leave it to air for about a week ). Still it won't powered on,looks like short circuit problem. My friend told me that i should buy a new mainboard but it cost so damn high. I just want to know if there is another way to fix it.

1. Take off a back lid and battery
2. Carefully and repeatedly wash in the distilled water all parts

At first, it refused to charge through the charger. Took out battery and waited 10 min, then it charge, until 100%, unplug charger, and it still charging , never stop.
Took out battery again, waited 10 min, put it in, battery charging icon appear on screen with the little yellow triangle inside, cannot turn on phone. Then I plug charger in, now I can turn on the phone, but battery level now show 80% and notification : charging paused, voltage too high.
Could someone help me?

Oh. Good. Lord.
10 min is NOT ENOUGH TIME to let the thing dry after you dropped the whole thing into water. You probably screwed the pooch on this one.
If the phone is dropped in water, most people recommend taking the phone apart and putting all pieces into a bag full of uncooked rice and silica packages for at least a few (preferably up to 5) DAYS before attempting to reconnect battery.
Because you've reattached battery already after less than 1 hour TWICE, I'm betting you have shorted your mainboard beyond all repair.
Water + electronics isn't necessarily the kill factor. Water + electronics + electrical current (connected battery) BEFORE DRY = dead electronics.
You should leave the battery out of the SGS and put both in a bag with much rice or cat litter some days in a bag. No hair dryer or something like this.
It wasn't a good idea to connect the loader and to leave the battery in the mobile.
I have a friend with exactly the same problem, his daughter put the GS2 phone into water and then he put the battery out for ONE night only... now the phone says is charging when it's unplugged and sometimes the "car mode" activates by his own (i don't even know how to activate the car mode on my GS2) ....
we started to think that the problem will stay forever

And now that the battery was put back into the phone after only one night, it probably will.
mine too fell in luke warm water but i removed batt in all covers open ,kept in a rice bag for jus 2,3hrs an the i blowd hair dryer the kool one not hot air.....an now my phone is good .....atleast now don charge an remove ,keep it to dry an check out if ur lucky ,it will work or ,the service center m8.

You got lucky if yours isn't showing any ill effects after such a short dry time. Yours is an exception.

Well, i did have the same selfactivates problem like you for few min,It even turn it on after i put the battery in, without any action. But it gone now. The problem is that it keep saying charging and the notification keep pop up. I can overcome it by install AOKP or CM9 Rom which dont have that kind of notification. But still, my concern is how long can it take till it really dead?...

Start looking for a new phone now.
If you already shorted it, it's not going to go away. Electronics don't just heal themselves over time.
A repair shop may be able to replace parts with shorted components, but if many have shorts, it may not be worth it to fix, and may end up being more expensive to fix than to replace.
You should have left the phone to dry atleast for a solid 24 hours in a rice bag!
I put my old Sony Ericsson in the washing machine once (was in a pair of shorts) lol.
Of course I don't expect it to work... but I opened it up and took out battery etc... left it out to dry in the sun for few minutes (making sure it doesn't get too hot), then put in a nice dry place with dehumidifier. After a couple of days it worked again.
Now that is just lucky and it probably wouldn't last for long... but luckily I was going to buy a new phone at the time anyways.
Moral of the story... phones, or any electronics, are not waterproof unless stated that they are. You have to be more careful people... or get something like Invisible Shield.

How can you be confused about this? The issue is a short on one of the electronic components in the phone. Probably the mainboard. Getting a new battery won't address that.
Why not bring it in to some service center (or even some night market telephone tech guys) and have them check it out? Then they can tell you what needs replacing or if you're better off getting a new phone.
Ok, Here's what happened
I was cleaning the toilet at home and foolishly placed my phone on the tank, as I finished I picked up my phone, slipped out of my hand and fell in the toilet. I know I know, why did I take my phone to the toilet? I have no idea, its the first and last time have done that.
Anyway, I removed the battery, sim and sdcard straight away and tried to dry the phone off as much as possible, then placed the phone and battery separately in a concealed bag filled with dry rice (to absorb moisture), I can now boot my phone.
The problem is that the phone says I need to charge my battery, now when I try and connect the charger, it says, 'Charging has stopped due to overheating'.
My question to all you pros, is this a battery or phone issue? I don't really want to order a new battery to find it's a problem with my phone. If it helps, when I tried charging it, I noticed excessive heat down one side of the phone, as shown in the attached image.

You didn't mention how LONG you kept the phone components in bags of rice before trying to reassemble and power the phone.
If it was anything less than several days (if using rice as a desiccant, most recommendations I have seen are a week, minimum) and this is the only technique you attempted to use to dry the phone out, then it is very likely the phone was not completely dry when you powered it back up, and you may have permanently damaged key electronic components by allowing an electrical charge to flow through them before they were completely dry.
MistahBungle's call of the board responsible for the USB port is a good guess on which component, though.

I only kept it in the bag for 48 hrs. As you mentioned this probably wasn't long enough. I may just try and claim through our house insurance as it does cover smart phones, I don't have normal phone insurance because I've never needed it until now.

My Xperia Neo V dropped into water.
Dried it with rice for a whole day and turned it on. Success! Was able to even play games.
Then I sent it for charging. (Battery was 8%)
5 mins later, it died.
Responds by entering flashmode after blinking red LEDs (3 I think), so I flashed stock.
Still couldn't start, so I sent it for charging (No response either after some hours)
I abandoned it and switched to a Galaxy Ace...until now....
Connected it to PC a month later.
It blinks red LED continuously, unplugged it and plugged it to a charger. No LED response whatsoever.
Plugged to PC again and POOF! Magic.
Detected by PC as my old MT11i :'D
LED is green, can do file exploration. Buttons are lit, vibrates when I press shutter button. No sound with the volume buttons
So the verdict...
CAN I STILL REVIVE MY NEO V?
IS MY DISPLAY DAMAGED?

Usually when you drop your phone, you would be doomed. Or so you thought. With this tutorial, you can save A LOT of money buying a new phone or repairing the wet phone!
HOWEVER, I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR PHONE CAN REVIVE. THIS WORKED FOR ME (SHALLOW DIP IN WATER). YOU MIGHT ALSO NEED A NEW BATTERY (IF YOU THINK YOU CAN REVIVE IT)
Steps(suggested by xange, proved):
1. Remove your phone from the water source IMMEDIATELY! (duh) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SWITCH IT ON OR PRESS ANY BUTTON.
2.Remove the battery, SIM and micro SD cards.
3.Dry the body with a dry cloth. Try not to use tissue paper as it will leave residue.
4.Disassemble the phone, all the way to the motherboard. I used a small slotted screwdriver (the one with only one edge)as there are screws shaped like stars. If you have that type of screwdriver you can use it. Similar disassembly video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ginuDIeNCs8
WARNING: INTERNAL PARTS ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO STATIC, METAL,ETC. BE CAREFUL. ALSO REMOVE THE CONNECTIONS TO THE FRONT COVER AND DIGITIZER (display) BEFORE REMOVING THEM.
5.Direct a blowing fan to all the internal parts to dry them. Keep the screws and parts in an accessible area. Leave it for 30 minutes. DO NOT DRY IT WITH A HAIRDRYER. YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO SCREW YOUR PHONE.
6.Reassemble the phone and insert the battery ONLY. NOTE: Make sure the ribbon connector is clean before connected, if dust (or any tiny electric conductor) sticks on the connector while connecting them, you will have high chancesof damaging the phone. Then, switch on the phone. If not,
A) CHARGE IT: Your phone battery might be 100% dead(until normal charging can't power it on). For me I pressed and held the Back button while plugging the charger into the phone (Flashmode). The LED should blink red and eventually, green. This is when normal charging starts.
B) REPLACE THE BATTERY: You'll need to do so especially when the (once)white area near the connectors of the battery has turned red, indicating battery damage.
C) SEND IT TO A (optional: AUTHORIZED) SERVICE CENTER: Out of luck. This is the furthest I can help.
ALTERNATIVE DRYING METHODS:
A)PUT IT IN RICE FOR A DAY: NO, Asians won't come to repair your phone. Rice acts like silica, which absorbs moisture like sponge. I suggest you disassemble the phone first as rice might get into the small holes around your phone.
B)SOAK IN ALCOHOL, THEN PUT IT OUT: Disassemble it first, too. Though I haven't tried this method, there are those who have proved it to work.
C) RADIATOR DRYING (suggested by georgeiulian89): I've turned it off,i've removed the back cover, took out the battery, sim card and sd card, and i've put the phone on the radiator (i've put a towel between the phone and the radiator and i've placed the phone on the towel). I've left the phone about two hours to dry, and then i've inserted back the sim, sd card and the battery and turned it on.
C)DRY IT WITH A HAIRDRYER: NO. RISKY METHOD. Water will evaporate, then condense back somewhere once you've done hairdrying your phone it will condense back. I tried it and it condensed on my phone's camera lens. (It's a hairdryer, not a phonedryer!)

What i believe is you've broken your battery and i didn't get anything what you asking about the display. It doesn't light up or what???

I dropped my Xperia Neo into water for 3 times, yet still operable, i mean, it survived 3 times of dropped into a pail of water, NO JOKES! .
What you should do is, the moment you dropped your phone into water, pick it out of water immediately, open the back cover and take out the battery immediately to prevent further electric short circuit. You will need some small tool to open every single screw to get the mother board come out (careful when unplug those ribbon sockets, if it breaks, you may have to pay to replace it) and dry (using hair dryer?) every single spot in the phone, except the screen, the screen should be tightly seal and should have no water enter into it. maybe the rubber physical buttons you have to take out and dry it too. (DON'T open the screen no matter what happen, unless water really enters the screen, or else the dust enter and stick at the screen you will have a REALLY HARD TIME { i mean it } to clean those dust out of the screen) confirm everything is dried and then assemble it. (from here onwards, it is a luck test whether you still able to save your phone or not, a line between hell and heaven) Put in your battery, It is normal you may not able to turn on your phone at first, give it a charge about 20 minutes and leave it there (red LED may blink repeat-ly for a while and you will not able to turn it on, just leave it) then switch it on, If you still can't turn it on, try change the battery. If symptom persist, god bless you, i tried my best helping you. ( it means it may not 100% probability to save your phone, but it is a way i did to save my phone)
Eventhough my phone survived dropping into water for 3 times, but it has some problems now, a random one, the phones get really really hot for no reasons for a short period (about 1 hour to 2 days) the heat comes from the motherboard after my inspection, maybe some water droplet enter into the chips and causing electric short circuit?

I followed a disassembly video for the Neo, but unfortunately the Neo V has a slightly different assembly, so I could not remove the screen to get access to the motherboard. Also, before I put it in rice, I tried to turn it on (Sony said it was water-resistant) after 12 hours in rice. The screen went all weird but I could hint the LegacyXperia kernel logo. That was before my phone booted up normally, and died upon charging.
For your heat problem, perhaps rust? Water should have evaporated from the heat and condensed everywhere in the motherboard.
Would soaking it in alcohol help?

I've took it out after about 10-15 seconds (this was the time until i've realised that it dropped). The phone was still working fine, it didn't shut down by itself. What i did: I've turned it off,i've removed the back cover, took out the battery, sim card and sd card, and i've put the phone on the radiator (i've put a towel between the phone and the radiator and i've placed the phone on the towel). I've left the phone about two hours to dry, and then i've inserted back the sim, sd card and the battery and turned it on. Gues what: it works without any problem, just like before the incident. You should check the water damage indicator on the battery (it's a white strip near the connectors of the battery). If it's white, the phone don't have any problem, but if it's pink or red, the phone was damaged by the water. Mine it's white, with some very little pink on the edge (before it was completely white).

Thanks for the tip but in all-summer Singapore we don't have radiators.
UPDATE: After following steps by @xange to reassemble and charge my Neo V, it BEAUTIFULLY WORKED!
The catch: Battery calibration problem, stuck at 100%. I'll figure a way out. Thanks a lot devs!

To get rid of 100% battery issue, you might just want to flash stock ftf in the first place, give it a full charge and then flash your desired driver.

Responds by entering flashmode after blinking red LEDs (3 I think), so I flashed stock.
Still couldn't start, so I sent it for charging (No response either after some hours)
I abandoned it and switched to a Galaxy Ace...until now....
Connected it to PC a month later.
It blinks red LED continuously, unplugged it and plugged it to a charger. No LED response whatsoever.
Plugged to PC again and POOF! Magic.
Detected by PC as my old MT11i :'D
LED is green, can do file exploration. Buttons are lit, vibrates when I press shutter button. No sound with the volume buttons
So the verdict...
CAN I STILL REVIVE MY NEO V?

Usually when you drop your phone, you would be doomed. Or so you thought. With this tutorial, you can save A LOT of money buying a new phone or repairing the wet phone!
HOWEVER, I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR PHONE CAN REVIVE. THIS WORKED FOR ME (SHALLOW DIP IN WATER). YOU MIGHT ALSO NEED A NEW BATTERY (IF YOU THINK YOU CAN REVIVE IT)
Steps(suggested by xange, proved):
1. Remove your phone from the water source IMMEDIATELY! (duh) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SWITCH IT ON OR PRESS ANY BUTTON.
2.Remove the battery, SIM and micro SD cards.
3.Dry the body with a dry cloth. Try not to use tissue paper as it will leave residue.
4.Disassemble the phone, all the way to the motherboard. I used a small slotted screwdriver (the one with only one edge)as there are screws shaped like stars. If you have that type of screwdriver you can use it. Similar disassembly video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ginuDIeNCs8
WARNING: INTERNAL PARTS ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO STATIC, METAL,ETC. BE CAREFUL. ALSO REMOVE THE CONNECTIONS TO THE FRONT COVER AND DIGITIZER (display) BEFORE REMOVING THEM.
5.Direct a blowing fan to all the internal parts to dry them. Keep the screws and parts in an accessible area. Leave it for 30 minutes. DO NOT DRY IT WITH A HAIRDRYER. YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO SCREW YOUR PHONE.
6.Reassemble the phone and insert the battery ONLY. Then, switch on the phone. If not,
A) CHARGE IT: Your phone battery might be 100% dead(until normal charging can't power it on). For me I pressed and held the Back button while plugging the charger into the phone (Flashmode). The LED should blink red and eventually, green. This is when normal charging starts.
B) REPLACE THE BATTERY: You'll need to do so especially when the (once)white area near the connectors of the battery has turned red, indicating battery damage.
C) SEND IT TO A (optional: AUTHORIZED) SERVICE CENTER: Out of luck. This is the furthest I can help.
ALTERNATIVE DRYING METHODS:
A)PUT IT IN RICE FOR A DAY: NO, Asians won't come to repair your phone. Rice acts like silica, which absorbs moisture like sponge. I suggest you disassemble the phone first as rice might get into the small holes around your phone.
B)SOAK IN ALCOHOL, THEN PUT IT OUT: Disassemble it first, too. Though I haven't tried this method, there are those who have proved it to work.
C) RADIATOR DRYING (suggested by georgeiulian89): I've turned it off,i've removed the back cover, took out the battery, sim card and sd card, and i've put the phone on the radiator (i've put a towel between the phone and the radiator and i've placed the phone on the towel). I've left the phone about two hours to dry, and then i've inserted back the sim, sd card and the battery and turned it on.
C)DRY IT WITH A HAIRDRYER: NO. RISKY METHOD. Water will evaporate, then condense back somewhere once you've done hairdrying your phone it will condense back. I tried it and it condensed on my phone's camera lens. (It's a hairdryer, not a phonedryer!)

add in: make sure the ribbon connector is clean before connected, if dust(or any tiny electric conductor) stick at connector while connecting them, you will have high chances to spoilt the phone.
Hello all!
I recently purchased a used Droid Razr Maxx from a co-worker. The lcd screen was cracked so I replaced it. I took apart the phone completely and reassembled it with the new screen in place. The phone turns on just fine, the Motorola icon shows up and it gets to the charging battery icon with 5%, but after a few hours of letting it charge, it stays at 5% and wont turn on. Keep in mind, the phone has been charging for two hours from the time this post was made.
My question is, did I somehow damage the battery when operating internally? I can replace the battery if needed.
Another question. If I damaged the motherboard, would the phone turn on at all?
I am kind of wondering if there is a certain thing I needed to do before plugging it in.
To answer any questions that might be asked: The battery was completely dead when I did repair the screen. The charger is a wall usb charger, not plugged into my computer. I did place all the components inside the phone, to the best of my knowledge. I have had experiences when it comes to internal repair.

Morning now. The battery is still at 5%. The phone shuts off soon as the charger is not connected. Does not seem to hold a charge. Think I should buy a new one?

It could be a faulty charger.
Normally, If the battery is poor, it won't hold charge but it won't stick to a particular percentage. It will only discharge sooner. But given the fact you got the phone dead, it might as well be the battery.
Worst scenario, you damaged the charging port.
I'd begin with using a different charger, if that doesn't work, try another battery.

I have used other chargers and they all work for my other phones, just not this one. I am hoping it's a dead battery and not something to do with the motherboard. My friend wont let me dismantle his phone to see if it's the batter, lol.
Just the clarify, the phone doesn't boot up completely, only to the charging screen. The battery icon with 5% shown. When I unplug the phone from the charging screen, it just dies. Will not even boot up to the phone animation.
I purchased a battery replacement off of Ebay. It'll arrive in a few days. Let's hope this works!

This phone can be picky. First razr I got had broken screen, repaired it and found myself in the same situation.
Connecting to a laptop would not charge it. Only stock charger. IPhone charger or chargers designed for iphones will not work.
Edit: When replacing battery, position is critical. If battery terminals are a little bit displaced it will not turn on.
Displacement can be minimal or imperceptible but will cause troubles. If possible don't place cover before checking that it turns on. (please avoid touching circuits or battery terminals or will get worse).

That was exactly the problem....
I got the new battery, but not 24 hours later, I was realigning the cables inside it (like the front facing and rear cameras, along with the WiFi antenna) I slightly moved the replaced battery and the cable to the battery to the motherboard tore itself. After a long face-palm moment, I got the old battery back in place and realigned it very carefully. It turns out it still works, but I am out a new battery.
Apart from the battery, I need to find out why the front speaker won't work. Either the speaker is damaged or something needs to be in place correctly, besides the cable. Also need to get some adhesive gel to bond the screen and case together.
Damn I really had forgotten about that speaker. The fact is it tends to break. It has very fine copper wire winding that can break when you remove it the wrong way.
Having no experience I pulled not knowing that speaker is glued to motherboard. At that time I didn't knew it and thought that little bar left was part of the motherboard.
Since you disassembled almost everything, that must be the reason it is failing. If it is not that, it is badly plugged but I really doubt it.
Alas Never fixed it, so i can't tell correct process to reassemble or disassemble that speaker. Instead I searched for apps that would activate loud speaker automatically during calls.
Would have been nice to fix it but I got the opportunity to acquire a RAZR maxx so never touched and sold instead.
Removing that glue might involve using a hot air gun. So that you don't damage motherboard removing by force. (But again too much heat could Fry motherboard)
Maybe someone could share it's experience?
About that screen, Remember to have read about a 3m adhesive spray in some thread.
Also some one just passed hot air that melted original glue but it would be better not to play with heat over a battery.
