It's so common, that moderators should actually come up with some sort of reward for people posting in the right section, instead of punishing those who don't.

Do you downloaded flashtool? Then there should be a folder called drivers. Inside there is one setup (execute it) and three archives (unpack them). If he asks for drivers use the ones out of the unpacked archives. Try that

All you need to know an do and with videos. (link below)
Also make sure that you are in (run as administrator)
Make sure you have the updated Sony Ericsson PC Companion/Update Sevice.
All the drivers are there in the software and Get the right Flashtool/Firmware/Baseband.
If you have the Apps/APKs that you want on your phone you can put them in the Flashtool too, they go in:
Custom/Apps of the flashtool AND THEN AFTER you flashed/rooted/Xrecoveryed the phone just plug in the usb an go for it.

Hi all,
My XPERIA U cannot get into fastboot mode even though I plugged the USB cable with holding down Volume Up Button.
I also tried it with holding down Volume Down Button.
I cannot have the bootloader unlocked.
My XPERIA U says its bootloader is allowed to be unlocked, and it is SIM free.
Please give me an advise to me!!
Thanks!

Same problem here
Anyway I try downloading flashtool and in the driver folder ( inside flashtool folder) there is an installer try install it when there are check box check them all and install
After that fastboot mode should be working
This is the easiest way to install fastboot driver, I think
It works for me

Just get the flashtool from here:
http://androxyde.github.com/
Install it (make sure you disable your antivirus while downloading).
Open C:\Flashtool\drivers and install the drivers.
Its the easiest way as Theonlyzii mentioned.
Theres workaround in general forum.
You must FAST!
Open device manager first
When you plugged in ur device with fast boot mode there should be a new driver detected on device manager,. Right click and update driver( you must fast before its disappear). After you succesfully install the driver now you can reconnect ur device in fastboot mode.
Hope this help. You might want to search that workaround im talking about for clearer instruction.

Nah mate...
I had failed. Windows just couldn't find the right drivers from doomlord's thread
Anyway, flashtool is the easiest, and pain free method.

Thanks all!!
Finally I could succeed unlocking the bootloader with the way of installing the driver from flashtool that you advised me!
I was not able to this method on my Windows8 RP PC, and I did not find the reason why I cannot. And I succeeded this on another Windows 7 PC! Thanks to you, I could notice that.
And for you, ankh.red,
I was trying it many times because my Xperia U turn off the blue LED soon(around 3 seconds). But it was always failing detecting any driver after I catch my Xperia U on the Device Manager. Of cource I had a driver from Sony's official page.
I think windows8 will need some change to do this. I have found on web someone who succeeded it on Windows8...
Anyway, I was helped by you! Thank you!! I will search next interesting things on the rooted from now!

Yeah I have the same problem before... Blue LED 3 sec,
I have to install the fastboot driver ( not the Sony one but the one in fastboot USB folder) before it disappear on devices manager..
Anyway, I glad you're able to unlock your bootloader now .
Happy rooting lol

Dont wanna start another thread so im just going ask here:
1. Why the speaker is so quite or is it just me?!
2. How can i root without unlocking bootloader since i dont wanna loose drm files( did they even important?! )
3. If there be some forum just for xperia U/P or we need to post in this ection....
P.S. previousely iv had xperia x8 so im new with this xperia, and sorry if this questions are already answered....
1. Enable xLoud in Settings>Sound
2. Not yet possible. I believe DRM is some protection given to music files bought legally. I think you might not be able to play such files (correct me if I'm wrong)
3. Not yet. Many have requested mods. No seperate sections

thank you sir. perhaps someone can upload the latest one to a more useful temporary upload site, like yousendit perhaps? i am trying that older version though... i just need it for the drivers due to the fastboot won't activate the driver search and the XperiaU just continues to charge instead of remaining in fastboot.

For Windows 8 users. The drivers cannot be installed because of the driver signature enforcement.
This is how to disable it.
First, press win + I to launch the charm bar, and click Change PC Settings at the bottom.
Then, go to General, and scroll to the bottom of the page, click Restart Now button under Advanced Startup section.
The computer reboots to a startup menu, in which click Troubleshoot.
And click Advanced Options at next screen.
Choose Startup Settings next And click Restart button.
The computer reboots and prompts another menu to choose. One of the items is to Disable driver signature enforcement. Press number 7 or F7 to continue booting to Windows 8 with digital sign enforcement disabled.
Hope that helps

Does the computer even read if a device is connected ?
I like phones.
You can always fix that with SEUS or PC Companion or Flash tool.
Just remember to backup first before flashing any roms.
Just download pc companion, search for the repair option, not sure whether it is in support zone. It should restore ur phone to it's original rom.
Had the same issue with my xperia x10 mini pro.
-----------------------
select support zone, select software update, select repair, make sure it's ur phone they detect not some other.

Just to confirm, not recognize or not detected.
Before u try this, run by someone more experience first( i will not be liable for any brick )
1. But could it be the kernel issue, if yes, can the OP not flash a new kernel using flashtool?
2. Then just do the steps of flashing a new rom?
I am not sure as i dun have my xperia with me, it's with my missus.
Bring this to ur phone q&a section.
Moved to Xperia X10 Mini Q&A :good:
I just requested that a mod move this thread to the Xperia x10 Q&A forum, hopefully someone there can help you better, although one of the RC's I brought this up to suggested that pc companion, but since you tried it then you might need to send it for repair sony ericsson update center. Does PC companion require any kind of drivers on your PC? Tried different USB ports?
Hello if you are wondering how to root ICS Well this is the guide first you need to download the required files
http://www.mediafire.com/?5xidpak76vdgiiy
Open Run me Bat follow the instructions if you don't know which selection you should choose Its the First one [This can root every Sony phone]
Now , Connect your device in debugging mode And it will say at the end [Waiting for device or something] , Look at your screen you will see an application called backup&restore
Now select "RootMe"
And click restore , It will restart your phone twice
Thats IT!
Thanks for your time.

N ur suggesting bin4ry's method which isn't really ur work...if ur putting this up fr information I suggest u do it in general...it's a little redundant here n kinda kills the purpose of development forum...

Or.... Or you can root ICS with flashtool! You only need to press ONE button! Works with locked bootloaders!
OP, unfortunately this thread isn't going in the right direction. If you've used any member's work then you need to give proper credits for it.
I'm closing this thread as of now & would request you to PM me so that I can understand your side of the story as well.

Code:
1. Download Unlock Bl.rar (http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/52880303/file.html)
2. Extract it
3. You’ll see Unlock BL folder
4. Now Extract fastboot.rar
5. You’ll get fastboot folder
6. Get the unlock bootloader key from Sony Website ( http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions )
7. Follow only the instruction on how to get the unlock key
8. Once you get the unlock key let’s continue
9. Connect your device in fastboot mode (Hold search button and connect to computer)
If you ask to install driver and then just extract downloadinf.zip in Unlock BL folder and
Point to android_winusb.inf-file, and select the Android Boot loader Interface-file
10. But it should not asked to !
11. Go to fastboot folder that you just extract and hold shift and press right click and select start command windows here
12. Enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version, and verify that you get a response back (for example "0.3"). This means your phone is
connected properly
13. Enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY (Replace KEY with the code that you receive from the sony website )(the unlock code)!
14. Wait till finish you’re done!
Download flashtool... Install it... Go to install dictionary > driver > install exe which present in this folder...
And u get driver easily...
Try.. It definitely work
