I dropped my Titan the other day and it landed on concrete pretty hard. *weep*
The handset was fine and was protected pretty will by the body, however I managed to scratch the back plate a little and now its driving me crazy because every time I look at it I see the scratches.
Does anyone know if/where you can buy a replacement back plate?

a) may be buy a gel cover? Cheap and will cover the scratch and protect your phone with further throwing around in future?
b) if you are in 28 days thing, replace it?
c) could you please check your speaker and mic? Last time I dropped mine, it looked like it was a scratch but the speaker was completely messed up and when I spoke in my mic, it echoed to the other person for like zillion times! I had to replace it and luckily was in 28 days period.
actually theres alot of backplate on sale on ebay .
thats probably a good point about the titan . if you really scatch the backplate badly, there are alot of OEM replacement backplate on ebay going for about 40 bucks and will make you phone looks like new .

Maybe move this thread to accessories one? More helpful there?
Call HTC support, they will issue you a new one for free, under the warranty your allowed one accessory per unit, the back cover falls in that category. That's what they did for me. I now have a new one I use when I go out and a scratched one I use at work.
Hello I have a similar question, I have the At&t version of the titan, great phone, but believe the black back cover of the global version looks much better. Is it possible to just swap it??
Thanks

I dont understand how HTC will send a replacement when they say explicitly on their warranty that they do not cover damages to drops / accidents?!!

When I comtacted HTC initially I wanted to buy the battery cover. I was sent all over including to non-HTC sites. Finally they said they were unable to locate a back cover for me so they will sent a warranty replacement, which I received the other day.
My guess is that their system is not yet setup to sell these back covers. They can only do warranty replacements.
Ordered one from UkHiTech(eBay) and it was shipped on the 22nd and was supposed to take lie minimum 14 days, but it got here yesterday!! All and all the replacement back plate is just as great as the original and has all the serial codes to suggest the seller is honest that it is OEM! I am very impressed cause I now have a black At&t branded titan as apposed to their grey one!

So i've been an Atrix owner for about 2 weeks now and my worst nightmare happend today. I was buying a drink from a vending machine and the phone slipped out of my pocket and fell SCREEN FIRST onto concrete.
I quickly picked it up and noticed THERE WAS A HUGE CRACK in the screen!
I AM SO SAD RIGHT NOW cause i bought the atrix outright from AT&T
i dont think the LCD panel itself was damaged but the glass on the surface only. The display looks perfectly fine still so i was curious if anyone knows how to switch out the glass part? What tools do i need?
I found this one ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-MB860-...838?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588d7db4fe
is this the right part?
or do i have to buy the entire LCD, cause its much more expensive:
http://cgi.ebay.com/AT-T-MOTOROLA-A...507?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33666a4883
also, does anyone know any reputable sellers that sell LEGIT parts such as the digitizer? I'm not sure if i can trust these random ebay sellers...any suggestions would be appreciated
i attached some pictures to show you what happend - i still can't believe it happend
i'm also really surpirsed the gorilla glass broke so easily. The drop was at MOST 1.5 feet..

It's about the same price and those are both going to ship from Hong Kong. So expect a wait. I didn't find any sellers in the U.S.
There are some that would ship from the U.S. without tools but the price is more like fifty bones instead of 30 something.
Good Luck

Nah, they are more than capable. I replace digitizers frequently and I rarely have to break out my "good set' of tools. Yeah these are simply cheap lumps of plastic. But they work. And these tools should be safer to use than almost anything that the average person, who doesn't do this sort of thing regularly, might have on hand. I just didn't want him to order a digitizer and attack it with a butterknife. I was trying to be subtle about it tho... We don't want anyone to scuff their bezel now do we?
I am always on the lookout for great deals on tools for this. And I look forward to your recommendation for a tool set.

Warranty covers a broken screen? Reason I ask is because I would rather have MOTO replace the screen (or the phone entirely) than me replacing the screen and voiding the warranty. I do not have insurance
I broke the glass on my phone 3 weeks after I bought it and didnt have insurance on it. I called motorola and they sent me an rma. I sent it in and they sent it back to me fixed in less than a week. If I remember right it cost $90 for them to fix it.
so it was only the digitizer after all?

A friend and I splurged on the $60 iFixit tool kit because we made some spare cash on the side repairing classmates' phones. It works well, although I still don't know if I would justify the price. It seems that the major complaint on reviews for replacement electronics parts are the parts that come with them, if at all, so maybe getting a better set is worth it if you replace digitizers frequently. Replacing the Atrix digitizer/screen is a fairly easy task compared to other phones until you get to putting the new screen on, at which point trying to get the cables back into the housing becomes a pain.'
Good luck!

Ugh I'm going to have to do this. My digi. Is farked as well. Now, is there a video to put this back together?. I agree that taking it apart is not the hard part at all.
iFixit will have a tear down guide.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2
Surprisingly there is no video to put it together...
Let me tell you from experience that it's damn near impossible to put it back together without tearing the digitizer ribbon straight off the screen while trying to slip it through that tiny hole that you pulled it out of. I've replaced two screens and I still don't think I can get it right.
My screen cracked twice while still under warranty, so I played the clueless n00b after I replaced the glass (cracked screens are not covered under warranty) and claimed the phone wasn't working and I couldn't figure out why.
Strange thing is, I also couldn't find a place online that would do replacement digitizers either. I didn't look for long, but if you don't have an option of a warranty return, I'd pay the $50 or so to let someone else do this for you and get it right...
YMMV...
I recommend taking it apart completely, you can attach the digitizer to the bezel/chassis and then you don't have to deal with trying to slide the cable through that tiny hole, you can just clean the digitizer, clean the lcd, put them together and then put the entire mounting plate back together and it just clips straight in...essentially you make this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180835204777?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
completely removes the chance of tearing the cable off the back of the digitizer...which is pretty common, sort of adds the step of getting the mounting plate off the fascia bezel...but its not to hard, be careful when popping up the volume/buttons camera cable area, that cable tears easily.
So, I got a really bad luck. My phone never fall on the street when I use the case; just when I take off the case, it fell down and cracked my screen on the bottom right near the Search button. It's still functional and the crack is not really bad, just kind of annoying when I realized that there's a crack there (not that noticeable for me, literally only a small piece of the screen on bottom right that got cracked)
So, I am just looking through my options here. I left my phone in stock condition because I don't want to void the warranty; but now that it's cracked, ....
Should I just root my phone, play with it, and deal with the small crack?
Or, if I left it in stock condition and change the glass, will I be able to claim warranty (in case anything happen)?
Or should I just get a new phone on CL? (like HTC One S maybe )
Any suggestion is welcomed

All depends on how much work you want to do and/or money you want to spend.
If you replace the screen yourself you'd have to remove "void" stickers and you know what that means as far as warranties go.
SOOOOO...
1) If you have insurance, you can replace the entire phone for $130.
2) If you don't have insurance, you can replace the screen yourself since it wouldn't matter if you void the warranty. You can buy a screen from eBay for about $30 or so.
Screen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digitizer-T...949?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c630ce6e5
Screen replacement video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA4JToM5uxA
Personally: My screen cracked and I've toyed with the idea of replacing the screen myself. Since I have insurance and I replace my phones a lot I didn't want to void my warranty so I decided to go through Asurion. For $130 I received a new phone, new casing, new battery and a new charger. Basically, I now have double of everything (except for phone since I had to return the cracked one).
Breakdown:
Per T-mobile's site:
Battery = $30
Charger = $15
Battery Cover = $20 (per ebay)
Total = $65 in Accessories
Cost for new phone = $65
Doing the replacement I got about $65 worth of accessories on top of a new phone for $65. Not too bad compared to just buying a new phone.
Bottom line, it all depends on you and what you're willing to do/spend. Don't worry about rooting until you make the decision to keep or replace your current phone.

Dude I'm there wth u! Got my water damage amaze (no warranty ) off CL. Phone worked great til I dropped it. With red water damage mark and cracked screen I had nothing to lose so I took it apart. I have to say its the easiest phone I ever worked on. Just so u know the digitizer is glued to the LCD so getting em apart is the tricky part. If you have the $130 or even $145 option available that's the way to go. The cheapest I've seen the pre assembled digitizer/LCD part is $115 so if you decide to take yours apart be careful separating digi from lcd ! You will need hair dryer.

Just wondering... is the replacement brand new or refurb? The crack wasn't that bad imo. So, getting a refurb doesn't sound like a very good idea to me (it might have some functionality problems).
Here is the pic of the crack on the phone... Since I bought the phone from CL for 230, paying extra 145 doesn't sound too good for me (it's 70% of the phone price in my case!!!). Anyway, thanks for the replies
They were supposed to replace the screen in my phone, but a few days after I paid for it htc called me and said they didn't have any parts and asked if I'd be Ok with a new unit.. Or wait like 3 weeks for parts... So i got a new unit. But they shipped only the phone. On a side note I had a problem a couple weeks ago with the aluminum coming off from around the camera, called htc explained the problem. They asked what color I wanted, told them white. Got the new back opened it was black, called htc told them they shipped me a white one and told me to keep the black one... Sweet. I'm in the middle of a project for my gf, painting the aluminum on the original baxk green for her, it was relatively easy to take apart the back. Stay tuned for pics coming soon....

Hmm by phone only you mean they only give you the phone without everything else right? That sounds like a refurb replacement to me...
Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I think I will just use my phone as is and root it someday. I am starting to get used to that small crack. lol
So on the 200th time I droped my Amaze, the screen cracked. I have Asurion insurance and filed a claim online and they are sending me another Amaze (for $130). This is fine because I like the phone, my contract is up and I plan to get another phone once I find something I like (most phones out now dont seem like much of an upgrade). I plan to keep the replacement Amaze as a backup and quit paying for the insurance. My question is: do I just need to send the phone back, i.e. can I keep the battery as a spare? Also, I am rooted and S-off running CM10. I dont plan to do anything to return the phone to stock. Is this a bad idea or does it not matter?

That looks amazing! How are you going to make the actual phone white though? Curious for the final product!
In bit to make it white, I thought I would just use "skinit" with pure white skin. That was the best way I thought, until now..
Need to find a spray paint friend
Hmmm looking good but this is only back cover but glass on the face we have still in black colour. I think that to achieve a similar effect we can buy case in white colour eg:
http://www.igadgitz.com/products/fi...rethane-tpu)-case-cover-for.html#.T_lMuNVpMvs
yes
the rest of the phone itself such as where the capacitive screen and buttons are will remain black in that area but the phones "body" is going to be white so I am very excited!
Any updates? Pics?
Updates? Also, do you mind posting a tutorial on how this was done?:fingers-crossed:
still pending
my phone is almost done with repair at htc America and the back cover is still with my friend who is taking his time because I don't have the phone back anyway, i'm about to go on 3 solid weeks of no phone thanks to HTC, the hold up is that they had to order materials from Taiwan as this phone they don't normally repair because it is the euro titan, it has been a tough 3 weeks and all I am using is a very old dumb nokia phone with no touch screen, phone keybad and very slow
final product! more pics to follow

rustoleum satin white spray paint was used from lowes and a white primer
What are the odds? I did mine using the same. The feel and texture is nice but after using it for a while the paint started to brown from my hands and pocket from daily usage!!! I'm thinking that a compatible "matte" clear-coat might have saved me the trouble of havening to sand/strip and redo this cover.

also i must warn everyone my data connections were seriously affected by the paint job, i don't know if i had a faulty back cover because i did recently send the phone back for repair or a paint job degrades the signal strength, i have stopped using the back cover and am using a US at&t back cover that does not fit securely, because of how poor the data connection was, so proceed at your own risk, currently i am trying to find a new euro titan cover at a reasonable price and i will try the paint job again on another cover just to make sure
were your data connections affected?

What are the odds? I did mine using the same. The feel and texture is nice but after using it for a while the paint started to brown from my hands and pocket from daily usage!!! I'm thinking that a compatible "matte" clear-coat might have saved me the trouble of havening to sand/strip and redo this cover.

i stopped using the cover because my data connection was poor, I even lost signal occasionally, did you experience any problems when you had paint on the back cover?
I did not. Currently I am using a replacement from eBay because I haven't gotten around to redoing the paint on my previous cover but from what I can remember, everything was as good as stock!

Oh yuck! I am soooo paranoid I am going to break mine, I just got it tonight and the protector is coming in the mail. I might leave it at home and just keep using the Droid 4 in the mean time until it comes in.
Have you seen if there are any "phone fix it" shops that can replace the glass that is cracked? (I am assuming it is the glass that is cracked and not the screen itself, right?) My coworker dropped his Rezound and shattered the glass and got it replaced for a little over $100. Granted, the Rezound is a smaller phone, but it might not be much more. It will be cheaper than a new phone, that's for sure. Also, my IT manager just cracked his GS3 and replaced the glass himself with a heatgun and only spent $27 for the new glass and the tools needed, if you think you can do it yourself.
Unfortunately, I cracked mine as well. Landed face flat on a concrete floor as I was pulling it out. I didn't have my case on like a moron, so it's my own fault. Because I don't have insurance I was planning on calling Samsung to see how much the repair would cost, but I'm worried about the price because of the Wacom digitizer. It'd also make repair from local shops harder to do. What do you guys think?
I just contacted Samsung for a friend a couple weeks ago and the screen repair with parts and labor was just over 190 bucks. You can get a quote using the Samsung online chat, just have your emei number ready because they use that to generate the quote.
Edit: He already got his phone back and it appears they just gave him a new one. I think he was only without it like 10 days or so.
I know how you feel. Mine fell out of my purse when I got out of the car. I had on a wallet style case that leaves the top and bottom exposed. It flew open when it dropped. The chrome ring has a huge ding and screen crack on the bottom right. Everything works fine. It's just painful emotionally.
Here's what I found. Radio Shack can repair them. It has to be sent out. $70.00 to $90.00 for the glass, the chrome would be a little extra. Takes a couple weeks. They offer a lifetime warranty against defects (not droppage).
Another local cell phone company can do it on site. You pay a deposit, they order the parts and get them within 2 days, $290.00.
I didn't check with Samsung, but from this thread, it looks like it's worth checking with them also.

i have the same style case and mine flung open and left it all exposed, i basically have the same style damage as you.
Thanks everyone for your insight! helps a lot. i will go to radio shack or check out samsung shortly!
Just get on eBay you can get the glass and digitizer for around $200. Then its easy to fix from there. Also I suggest an urban armor gear case, I dropped mine from about chest level it bounced and landed face down I thought for sure it broke. Picked it up the case has a few scuffs but the phone is perfect plus this case isn't as bulky as otter box.

If you have always carried insurance with verizon, i would ask to speak with a supervisor. I have had insurance with vzw since the blackberry days. When i purchased a thunderbolt off contract a couple of years ago, i activated it in the store and the rep took my insurance off my line. A few months later the phone fell and broke. I was told i did not have insurance and i made mention that i have always carried insurance. The end result was they added insurance back on my line and vzw sent me a replacement phone.

Nice! Glad you got a nice easy solution.
Edit: Most definitely the cheapest one too!
Hey, so I cracked my One X+ screen quite badly, it fell on it's side on a wood floor, and it cracked.
Thing is, this isn't a normal crack, if I put it in my pocket, I end up with pieces of glass everywhere, and if I use it, my fingers get cut and bleed, so I can't use it right now.
I am not a handy guy myself, so I won't even try fixing it, I've been checking out some places, they seem decent, but they mostly do iPhone repairs. One of them quoted me $150, and another $130
The $150 has a 5-star yelp rating, but then again, iPhone screens (from what I know) are fairly easy to replace
I'm so pissed at myself, because I never wanted to use a case, as the phone is really sexy and feels good.
I e-mailed corning for the gorilla glass damage, which was weird, and they said that they will pay me $200 for the phone and they will (obviously) keep it for research (Probably replace the screen and sell it?)
I'm so worried, because after reading around, it seems that HTC One X screens never end up looking good, and I can imagine that being worse for the X+, as it is a bit more rare.
The screen is cracked on the side, and those cracks extend all the way to the other side of the phone, but on the left side, the glass is just destroyed.
Will post pics later
Wow, that sucks bud. I broke the screen on my SGSII last year and just chucked it and bought a phone on E-bay.
I replaced the screen on an I-pod and it was pretty simple. I did a lot of research before I did it and it turned out good.
I don't know what to tell you as far as replacement. If you got $200.00 for the broken one and could find one on E-bay for $450.00, you would have a replacement for $250.00. Just a thought.
Best of luck and post some picks when you can.
Steve
Yeah, I'm mostly discarding that option. I do wonder if its actually possible for the phone to end up decently after one of these repairs

I spose if you found someone qualified to do the repair, it should be like new when it's done. Be sure they use a good quality screen and digitizer for the repair. Should even consider using a direct HTC replacement. Of course that will up your cost.
I spose it depends on what you are willing to do for your phone. How bad do you want your HOX+ back??
I would just send it to HTC, cost me 180 british pounds, the good side is that you will get a new unibody, and a full service on the insides of the phone. I think its well worth it, and it keeps your warranty in play.

I don't care much about the warranty, if it dies I'll replace it, thing is, I can get upto $150, since I'm a high school kid, and (this is serious!) my parents said that if I break my phone, they're not replacing my phone in the next 2 years.
So they don't know.

Actually the one x and one x plua use the same screen/digitizer and you have to pry the back of it off and disconnect it all if you really want that phone to work and keep any bit of warrenty send it to htc if not bring it to a repair shop

They sell kits on e bay with instructions and ideo instructions on you tube invest in an otter box it dosent add too much bulk and its a bargain ive seen people drop their phones 35 feet when i worked in chemical plants otter boxes on had a gash in it from tumbling down insulation bouncing off pipes and hitting concrete foundations phone was 100%fine

The One X and One X + are definitely a difficult replacement. You need to FULLY clean up the old adhesive and take your time or you will get bad results. You also need to use the right adhesives to get good results. It would cost about $10 to $15 to get a role of adhesive you could use (trimming needed in tight areas) that would do about 50 phones.
Take your time and be thorough. Also be REALLY carefull with all the flex cables or you will be screwed when you put it back together.
I have fixed about 25 of the One X and one One X+ and its a minimum of 1.5 hours of work for me now and I know exactly what to do.
