[Q] NOTHING works right - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

got a vibrant
had 2.1 rooted
updated to 2.2 via kies
didnt like bloatware and swype version
couldnt root 2.2
downgraded to 2.1 stock and rooted
*not the same 2.1 i had before*
google apps seem out of date and they dont update in market
decided i want a gingerbread rom
cant get clockworkmod recovery flashed using rom manager
downloaded a custom bootloader (green android) and installed
now phone boots but will NOT go into recovery or download mode
trying to get to recovery; green android screen then stock "vibrant" screen loop all day
trying to get into download mode; black then plug in usb and the battery charging comes up and thats it
now i found clockwork file i can flash using odin or heimdall but cant because i got no download mode
what do i do? can i do anything?
phone isnt bricked just no option but normal boot to android

Your key combos changed when you flashed boot loaders. Volume up + power for download mode and volume down + power for recovery

thank you so much! is there a walk through with dl links to get clockworkmod recovery on my device without rom manager?
rom manager downloads it to my phone but doesnt flash.
also rom manager free is not in my market anymore.
another question, what is the most satble, fastest rom with the best features and looks cool?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
use option B, have your rom you want to flash on your sd card ready to go

Ok I have a cwm .tar file and I want an ics ROM.....should I just flash the .tar and use cwm to flash the ROM?
Or will that not work?

Watch this video if you want to flash ICS. It has everyting that you are doing right now. THe update.zip, the files you need and a walkthrough. You'll need to download some files to your internal though.

Thanks so much....I kept the same bootloader. Flashed cwm and ics 10.6
It's awesome!
I don't see any of the bugs people are talking about either

Recovery

So maybe its just me, but I'm not able to get into Recovery when trying to flash something. For example, flashing a better modem into Obsidian hasn't been working for me, or at least I haven't noticed. Nor have I been able to flash the Gingerbread keyboard without having to push it to the system using Root Explorer.
Is there a trick to getting into Recovery using Froyo, or is there somthing I'm doing wrong. I normally use ROM Manager to get into Recovery or even the options in the power menu and nothing works. Just the Samsung recovery mode.
Hold volume updown and push power button untill u see the vibrant screen then let go of power only and if your only getting the samsung recovery then reinstall package u might have to twice

Make sure update.zip for rom manager is in on internal sd and then reboot into recovery and reinstall packages if it goes back to stock recovery reinstall packages again then you should be in Cwr

[Q] How To Unroot?

I unrooted my friends Vibrant using the SuperOneClick and it still has the Quick Boot on it. How do I remove it and does this still mean his device is rooted? He has the official 2.2 update if that makes a differnce I tried using this tutorial to do it
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/How-Do-i-Root-my-2-2-Vibrant/m-p/710539
but I couldnt get step 9 to work nor could I properly find his internal sd card. so we decided to just unroot it now

This method works very simply,to root and unroot.
I use the Mac version.

I personally would odin to jfd
Root it (so much easier)
Install rom manager/cwr
Flash custom froyo rom
Be happy

How much easier is using odin vs One Click Root/UnRoot (Mac and PC)?
With One Click, simply download, make sure your phone is in USB Debug mode, click Root, which puts you into recovery, install update zip, install RM/CWR,flash custom rom and reboot, done.
Just sayin.
ODIN:
download files and ODIN to pc
Load odin
Put phone in download mode (both volume buttons)
Run the files via odin
Bam, phone is stock
Root:
download file
Place in sdcard/
Phone into recovery (both volume and power)
Select to install update.zip
Reboot
Bam, rooted
Recovery:
Download rom manager in market
Flash cwr in rom manager
Reboot into recovery from rom manager app
Select reinstall packages
Select to backup
bam, custom recovery and a system backup
Install custom rom:
Download rom
place in sdcard/
Reboot into recovery
Select install from sdcard
Flash rom
Reboot phone
Bam, custom rom
I think I'm going to use the one click since I have a Mac and I'm more comfortable using it over my folks PC . The One Click will work even though he had the Kies 2.2 update. If so then I'm ready to root it. He was wondering how to overclock it and get wireless tether. I have a Droid X so its way Easy for me but I know his phone is tricky

[Q] Can't access CWM

Ok, i rooted last night with SuperOneClick (psneuter) and I installed ROM Manager and flashed the Vibrant Recovery.. But now I can't access CWM, i just go into stock recovery. any ideas as to why?
Try reflashing it with rom manager, then when you to reboot into recovery you will likely have to select reinstall packages at least once when you boot into your regular recovery. Until you flash a custom rom this is likely the route that you will have to take each time you boot into CWM
Odin back to stock 2.1, then root with eclair guide. Install the update package twice and the blue recovery should turn green.

I did. it just reboots into stock recovery

Hmm odd what stock rom are you using? Ie ka5? Jk2? Etc. If you are running any stock froyo rom then as movieaddict said you will want to Odin back to 2.1 jfd which has 2e recovery instead of 3e, now I know there is a way to modify 3e recovery to make it work like 2e but iI'm not familiar with the process, search the vibrant development section and you should be able to find the mod there

if he rooted using superone click, it's good guess he's running 2.2. Also, if he can't get into CWM (except he hasn't stated it gives him a signature verification error yet), then he's also probably running a 2.2 build.
The easiest way is to use odin/heimdall.
there are 2 options in this path; odin back to 2.1 (jfd) then flash whatever rom you want from there, or odin a 2.2 voodoo kernel (which has cwm built in) and then flash whatever rom you want.

[Q] help! cant get rid of i9000 leftovers in t959

Need some help for a strange situation
I was attempting to flash my samsung t959 to froyo 2.3 and came across a site the stated I could use the files for the vibrant gt i9000 and flash via odin. Well guess what that didn’t work it booted up and worked ok but some functions were severely hampered. So I reinstalled eclair 2.1 via odin everything was fine but when it boots up the gt i9000 screen shows first than the vibrant screen followed by regular boot up.
I rooted the phone and tried installing a rom but it wont install. when in recovery mode it will just install the update.zip folder and not the rom I downloaded with the rom manager. I have a feeling there is some of the gt i9000 software still in the phone but cant figure out how to get it out.I have flashed several times using odin but still the same. If I want to get into recovery mode the 3 button way I have to use the buttons that the i9000 would use not the t959. That’s what makes me think there are remnants of the i9000 left over.Anybody got any ideas for getting the back to stock 2.1 so I can install a rom?

thanks button if i helped
Thanks for the info I am going to try that when I get back from Alaska. In you opinion what is the best most stable rom out there for a t959. When I download the rom and put it in the root of the sd card it should not be unzipped correct?

yes you dont unzip the rom. also one of the most stable roms for me on 2.2 is trigger 3.1 and for 2.3.4 simply honey
Is there a rom that uses odin to flash the t959 to 2.2.1? Any rom I have tried using the reboot recovery method does not seem to work. As far as I know I am installing correct.
Downloaded update.zip to the sd internal removed external sd
ran recovery and installed update .zip
have superuser icon so the root has been made
downloaded rom manger looks like it works connects and lets me look at the roms I can use etc.
downloaded several differant roms and tried to install all it wants to do is install the update and does not install the rom files.
The rom files are zip files and I do only leave one rom on the sd card at a time allong with the update.zip file. I dont get it.
Did you flash recovery in ROM manager and reboot into recovery. Then reinstall packages and reboot into recovery?
You can keep as many ROMs and kernels and whatever you want on either sdcard. I have both filled to the brim.
Eitherway you could use Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick in ODIN but that might be 2.2 actually so ignore that, lol

Phone stuck in recovery mode

I've just downloaded the latest CM10 ready to flash, booted into recovery but now I can't get out. its glitchingwhen I try to move between the menus and the power button to select doesnt do anything.
I've tried pulling the battery out, tried rebooting by holding down the power button, but all ends up back in recovery where I can't do anything.
Never had a problem with it before, phones been working fine and haven't changed anything since booting into recovery, CWM version is 5.8.4.0.
Any suggestions?
When it boots into recovery, try flashing the zip again. Worked for me when flashing CM9 on my SGS.
Can you get into download mode?

I managed to get out of it, but had to spend quite a while pressing buttons. It's glitching all over the place!
Trying to update CWM through ROM manager but that seems to keep on crashing too. Can I just find and flash the latest CWM Touch to update it and stop it glitching?
Don't use ROM manager to flash anything, use Odin or mobile Odin.
In fact, use Odin to flash cf-root, it roots and flashed cwm at the same time.

Oh I did that ages ago, I was talking about updating to the latest version of cwm. Is the best way just grabbing the latest zip from the thread in general discussion and flashing it?
And the only reason I wanted to flash through ROM manager is because recovery mode was glitching so couldn't navigate through the menus properly.

Yep, get the .tar and flash of with Odin or mobile Odin and that's the best way.
In future if recovery is glitchy just boot into download mode and flash a new recovery, I've had issues similar to yours on my galaxy nexus when touch recoveries came out first, flashed back to "classic" cwm and perfect.
