Can't install CyanogenMod 7. Stuck at Samsung screen. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I've been trying to install the Cyanogenmod for 2 days without success...
This is what I've been doing. Tell me if I do something wrong...
-Start with stock KE2
-Flash CF-Root wich also contains CWM
-Factory reset / Cache wipe
-Put cyanogenmod .zip on the phone
-Boot into recovery
-Select install .zip from sdcard, and I select the zip
-Phone says install succesfull (the install just takes like 3 seconds, is it normal?)
-I go back to the previous menu and select reboot phone
It gets stuck at the black "samsung galaxy s2" screen. I left it for more than 20 minutes that way. Nothing happens.
I just power it off and re-flash a stock firmare via odin...........
This happens with both the stable and the nightly cyanogen mod builds.
Could you help me please?

1) boot into CWM recovery
2) Flash CM7 zip
3) reboot into recovery again
4) flash CM7 zip again
5) wipe data/cache/dalvik cache (you will lose all your app data, but not pictures/media/etc)
6) reboot and wait for it to boot, upto 10min.

Why dont you just flash and cf- root stock rom then thru cwm just install the rom? easy and works, atleast for me it did, got back to stock thu , its better after you freeze all bloatware..
hope it helps

I'll try that. But why flash it 2 times?

So it works? Dunno, it was something todo with differences in the CF-root CWM recovery and the CM7 CWM recovery and busybox.

If you'd bother to read the instructions for flashing CM (which you clearly didn't, else you wouldn't be asking this question), they're pretty clear about the requirement to flash the rom twice. The why is irrelevant. The simple reality is in order for it to function it needs to be flashed twice.
If you haven't already, do yourself a favour and flash the original stock firmware that was on the phone when you bought it before you end up trashing it :-/

No ROM Booting

So i managed to solve the problem that i had.
When i said that i could flash only the stock one, i was flashing XXKI3 as one file after each failed attempt to flash a custom one.
So i tried and flashed another stock rom, again as 1 file. after the flash was done the phone again stucked at first screen wit the triangle.
After that i thought that something was really messed up in the phone and flashed again XXKI3 with PIT and multiple files and offcourse RE-Partition.
After that flash a stock rom with 1 file and modified bootloader from Intratech's thread, this way you can also reset the binary caunter with a jig (can find many on ebay).
After finish flashing and first boot
root with CF kernel and flash any custom rom. It worked as it should. Now i am on a custom rom and trying to see which one suits me best.
Thank Jiganet for some may be needed modified bootloader which is recommended so you can reset binary counter.
Everyone tha nk you for your suggestions and help.
any rom that i install is not getting beyond the bootlogo. i had xxki3 stock with cf-root xxki3 kernel.
every install i make full wipe on everything before(data, cache, dalvik).
any body any idea?
only stock rom working.
The first boot takes some time. Are you waiting that long?

1. Enter Clockworkmod recovery
1a. Do a Backup (not a must, but i suggest) from the cwm recovery of your current rom/settings.
2. Wipe Data/Cache Factory reset
3. Flash the new rom you want
4. Again (not needed but well..) Wipe Data/Cache Factory Reset
5. Wipe Cache
6. Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache (this is why you get bootloops)
7. Reboot to system
Wait 4-5 minutes and you will have your new, shiny working rom.
Hope it helps, cheers

Mh strange, the strange is.. with the stock rom is working.
Looks like your phone dosnt like the rom you are flashing so the quesion now is:
Are you sure, you are flashing a rom your phone can read? I know the i9100G and the AT&T versions cant be flashed with the standard (i9100) S2 roms (there is a specific thread i think here on xda for those versions)
mine is an unbranded i9100 from Greece. i am flashing the correct roms.

every body read first post managed to solve this.
Hi was there a solution to this problem as I seem to get it with EVERY rom I try to install from zip?
Hi to all, this is my first Post and this is my First Android I come from an iPhone 2G, iPhone 3g, iPhone 3GS and my last phone was an iPhone 4!!! now I'm extremely happy with my new SGS2!!!
I have been searching a lot!!! for a solution for this flash loop issue,
1 - I have flash to a stock 2.3.5 KI3 samfirmware,
2- then I have Odin>PDA>cf-root-KI3-4.2.tar to root my phone.
3 - After that I downloaded 3 custom roms, DarkyROM2_KI3, VillainROM-3.0.0-signed and Cyanogen cm_galaxys2_full-112. put them on my root internal sdcard.
4 - booted to ClockworkMod Recovery menu.
5 - Wipe Data/Factory Reset
6 - Wipe Partition Cache.
7 - Install Zip from sdcard.
and every thing seems ok, but when i restart, it stays on the boot loop, even if i manage to enter to CWM Recovery menu it says that E: Can't Mount ... bla bla bla
I had been trying to put a custom rom so much that my binary counter is now on 10
I'm going to try what you wrote on the first post!
Restore to stock KI3 firmware using pit file and repartition.
after that install the cf-root kernel. Restart and try to install any custom firmware.
Hope it works
Not it did not work, Maybe the problem was Wipe Partition cache after installing new rom, going to stock and repeating
I'm having this exact same problem, please post here if you find an answer to your problem.
I first installed checkrom with no problems, then i decided to wipe and try install dlevrom but after rebooting i'm left with the same problem as above.
It's only when i flash stock 2.3.5 KI3 through odin with pit, repartition, all checked that my phone works.
I then repeat the steps of flashing cf root through odin and then try flash a custom rom, either checkrom or dlevrom and neither work.
Another try another fail!
I have no idea on what else can I do!!! tried again and nothing! I tied cf-root 4.1 and nothing and cf-root 4.2 and nothing!.
I'm having this exact same problem, please post here if you find an answer to your problem.

After i got the stuck on boot! I can restore to stock by only using the PDA, I don't need to set the pit file again!, but I'm usign all the files on Odin to see If that makes any difference but nothing!!!
I wonder how mariosraptor did it!!!! Can you throw us a light???
I have explained it on first post. Just follow step by step the first post directions.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Nope it didn't work
The steps I did:
1. Restore to stock using PIT, PDA, PHONE, CSC.
2. After it boots root the phone with cf root 4.1 for ki3
3. Use CWM Recovery to flash the new rom on internal sdcard.
I have been doing it with wipe data, wipe cache, wipe develk.
Nothing is there a step that im missing?
Thanks
SOLVED!!!!!! JAJAJA
The only problem, was one minor thing, a little thing called Bootloader!
I installed the old bootloader!
find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
And after that every thing worked perfectly, no boot loops!!!!
Hope it helps!!!

[Q] CWM fail to update?

Hi there, I need your help and advice please.
Here’s my problem. My phone is the SGS2 running KI3 rooted with CF-root KI3 flashed the secure kernel and then flashed the zImage so I still have root CWM and to get rid of the yellow triangle. I have downloaded CM nightly 88 to my laptop and transferred it to my S2 via usb cable into the download folder.
Here’s where the problem comes into play when I run CF’s CWM and choose reboot into recovery I do a wipe/factory reset / wipe cache and update via sdcard, I pick the cm88 from the download folder and it starts to update and then stops. I reboot and it’s stuck on the Samsung S2 page (boot loop). I then have to get into the recovery and restore my phone to the previous state. Can someone help me I would like to try the CM’s custom rom but don’t know what I’m doing wrong? Thanks.

me2 only stock roms work for me =(
I think there was an issue with the version of CWM used on the CF-roots since it's been modified by CF and because it's an older version.
After you've rooted with CF, try flashing a kernel on there with a newer version of CWM on there (I used codeworkx's kernel from the Cyanogenmod wiki I've attached below with CWM 4.0.1.4).
Once this kernel is on there, then try flashing the CM7 ROM as per this thread. I prefer flashing from recovery myself, but it's your call.
Make sure you flash it twice in a row if you're having issues.
The problem, as stated above is that cf root kernel installs a modified version of CWM that won't work with CM7. Another thing is you have to flash a stock KH3 because KI3 has the new bootloader (unless you flashed KI3 with the old bootloaders). Then, you have to flash the codeworkx kernel so you get a compatible version of CWM. Once in CWM clear data factory reset + clear cache partition + clear dalvik cache (from advanced).
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Flash the ROM from sd card and when finish do not reboot device, just flash it again without wiping anything in between, just 2 consecutives "install from sd card". When this is done you can reboot the system and then enter again to CWM to flash the google apps .zip file that you can download from the CM7 thread.
Hope this helped. When I flashed CM7 i had exactly the same problem and went back to stock cause it was a pain in the ass to flash it fr the first time. But once you get in CM7, everything becomes great and easy, and you can update the nighlies directly from ROM manager without doing any wiping. You just can't use ROM manager when getting to CM7 for the first time.

DO NOT use cf-root to install CM7. It's stated by Codeworkx a lot of times in CM Q&A thread. Just flash his kernel to get cwm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
Now you have the original cwm recovery (from Koush). Boot into recovery, Wipe data, cache, dalvik.
Install CM7 twice in a row without rebooting.
Then flash gapps (without rebooting) http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip.
Now reboot. Wait for a few mins since system has to build dalvik cache. And you're all good to go
Worried about yellow triangle? Get a usb jig.
Siyah kernel 2.0 supports CM7 and miui. So....have fun.....!!

[Q] Installing a ROM for the first time - PACman ROM (for 5.0)

I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 tomorrow and I am interested in installing the PACMAN ROM
However, the instructions are not clear for me since I am new to all this. I've downloaded the roms, gapps and kernal and now the instructions say to:
'Put the files on your device
Reboot into recovery
Wipe dalvik cache
Install the zips (or do adb sideload if you want)
Reboot'
Since I have no experience with android devices, I am not sure how to do these steps. I've tried searching on Youtube but there aren't any tutorials for SGP's. I am aware that I need to do a full wipe since I am going from GB to JB (so I need to delete data, dalvik, system and dbdata). It also says to do a backup if anything goes wrong, which I am not too sure how to do as well.
If someone could explain these instructions clearly to me, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

put your device in download mode (hold down power and volume down) and flash entropy's kernel with odin.
then you will have clockworkmod recovery, which you can boot into by holding power and volume up.
in clockworkmod, you can make a backup, wipe data, and install the rest of the stuff.
you could even do all of this without ever booting up the stock rom.
This is what I do/did...
I used this tutorial to flash CWM and root
http://m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
Download SuperOneClick and
Download Odin. Follow tutorial.
Odin can be used to flash ROMs or kernels and to flash CWM.
Download the Pacman ROM and a kernel and put it on your External SD card.
Use ROM Manager from the play store to reboot into Recovery mode (easiest way) or volume up and power button at the same time as the Samsung flashes after you first boot your device.
From recovery mode you can wipe dalvik cache etc, but if this is a new device, you shouldn't have to factory reset or wipe cache (I think) If you're buying a used device, wipe and reset.
You're in recovery mode still, navigate to-
"Load zip from external SD card" and select it. Navigate to the Pacman zip and select it.
You navigate using the volume up and down buttons and select using the power button.
Navigate back to main screen in recovery mode and select Reboot System.
Do the same thing to flash a kernel. If the kernel has clockwork mod integrated, load the kernel first.
I use Xplore to move files around, it's quick and easy.
The reason ppl tell you to back up any data is, they have data they want to keep. If this is a new device, you don't have anything worth saving, such as contacts apps etc.

what exactly did you do in cwm?
did you install pac rom?
if not, try installing (using install zip from sdcard) it directly over gb, after doing a full wipe.
also install gapps the same way

I got up to step 7, but my device kept rebooting after that. So I went in CWM recovery by holding POWER and UP buttons and wiped my data and cache but it still kept rebooting.
And I can't flash any roms since I still haven't rooted the device. I couldn't use entropy's kernel because I have an INTL Galaxy Player.

Okay, but in the CM9 thread the first thing it says for installation is 'Make sure your device is ROOTED' and mine is not - so are you sure it will work? I just don't want to brick my device or anything, just got it today xD
to install cm9, boot into recovery, and go to mounts and storage, then select the mount usb storage (connect your usb cable to your computer first)
then copy a cm9 rom zip over (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957)
you should be fine
if something fails for some reason, try installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144 via odin (put your device in dl mode).
this is a rooted stock rom

yup, dont forget to wipe data, cache, dalvik, (look under mounts and storage) system, and dbdata (or datadata)
All this INTL and US device stuff just throws wrenches into everything. The link I posted says it's for INTL and US devices. Apparently not the case.
I have intl kernel on my US device and it works fine, not sure why the reverse isn't true. Weird.
I use the INTL kernel because I like the governors choices.

Yeah it sucks that Samsung made different devices for different regions...Makes no sense..
But yeah, I installed CM9 and when I selected to reboot my phone from the actual ROM it said 'Rebooting...' and now its been like this for 30mins or so... :| I guess I'll have to wait for the battery to drain or something, but as soon as it does I'll wipe data, etc and install PACMAN with the new kernel and gapps. Sucks that you can't take the battery out the phone, I don't think the phone is actually gonna reboot.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, I JUST SAW ONLINE THAT YOU CAN SWITCH IT OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON AND HOME BUTTON...Yeah I'm totally new to Android and Samsung xD
Or you could hold the power and volume up buttons to go into Recovery mode and reboot from there.

5) can i instal it on a full stock phone(only bootloader is unlocked, no recovery,no root), because i guess that the boot.img (from step 2 of instalation guid) is a kernel with recovery.
Thanck you.
Ps i tried to ask Beerbong or in his thread but i coudn't because i don't have 10 post.
1) In the CM11 thread
2) the boot.img is inside the CM zip
3) I don't understand
4) I don't know
5) Yes. You're right. That's why you have to flash the boot.img first, so you get Recovery

Oh, that's PIE and you can use that too if you want to.
I instal parandroid especialy for that option.
i don't find cm11.ZIP. I find only cm10. For 11 i find a link which link me to a sit where i can chose betwen more cm11 and i don't know which chose.

The boot.img in the Paranoid Android zip is fine. Extract that and flash it using fastboot/FlashTool. You'll now have a recovery with which you can install the Paranoid Android system. Access the recovery by powering on the device, then holding Volume Up as soon as the LED turns green.

As above for thr boot.img
Carbon has PIE as well, but build 18 seems a little unstable
One more question.
I read în s4 and nexus 5 parandroid threads and i saw the instructions in the next format:
Samsung
update to the last custom recovery
wipe data/factory reset
flash rom and gapps
wipe cache and dalvik
Nexus
1. UPDATE RECOVERY
2. FACTORY RESET (If coming from another rom or stock)
3. INSTALL ROM
4. INSTALL GAPPS
4. REBOOT
5. CUSTOM KERNELS MAY BREAK ROOT, SIMPLY RE-FLASH SUPERSU
At the z ultra they said that we need to instal rom and then to factory reset and then wipe data and dalvik.
Anyway. What make me suspicious is that factory reset after instal rom. I talk with somebody and he told me that i will brick my Phone if i will do that. So i want to do next instalation Guid:
1) flash a New ftf file(the last)
2) flash that boot.img( what i find in parandroid.ZIP)
3) factory reset.
4) wipe data(i saw that i can do it At the same time when info factory reset, because în twrp, At wipe option i can check all data(inclusive dalvik)
5) instal rom
6) instal gapps
7) do a again Point 4
8) flash su
9)it's done

Yes it should work.
Most custom ROMs only include cwm recovery.
It froze at the boot logo as the kernel and system were incompatible, if you had of rebooted (vol. up and power button) and entered cwm again you could have made a nandroid and then installed the ROM

No. After first rebot it was compleatly frozen and i couldnt enter in recovery.
So if the kernel was incompatible, i think the kernel is for another version and i will ask on parandroid thread because it have no post ubtil 30 sept 2013.

Hey, that helped. But when I press the Wipe Data/Factory Reset button, the phone just restarts and gets back in loop.

Be careful because PhilZ as a option to do a normal wipe factory reset but also a option to install a new rom which formats all the necessary files to do that including your system (rom). This can leave you without a rom to boot into if you don't know how to use it propably,I would just recommend just flashing back to stock with Odin (and don't forget to factory reset after using Odin.

If you have tried flashing stock (and you have flashed everything correctly and wiped correctly) and you are still stuck in bootloop the only option I can see is to try the rescue firmware in the stickies forum.
Be very careful and follow instructions carefuly as it containes a pit file,if this failes then I would suggest service repair.

Tried to wipe again and booted up. It just took longer than normal (5mins) and then it booted up as normally. Thank you very much !
Now, if I want to flash Cyanogenmod again (Not Installer !), I just have to root and then flash Cyanogen Mod, right ?

Yep I agree don't use installer seen alot of problems with it... If you just want to install Cyanogen Mod (or any custom rom) with custom recovery then you do not need to root (only root if you want to backup or access anything from system), all custom roms come with root included. Just use a custom recovery wipe then flash your rom (factory reset if it bootloops) done.
