I had the GLaDOS kernel installed, but I changed to Eugene's, but the Aperture boot animation is still here... How do I reset it back to the normal stock ICS animation?
Or do I really have to flash my custom ROM again?
You can pull the bootanimation.zip from your ROM (I'm not sure where it's located for you, sorry). Once you have it on your SD card, copy it and then override the one currently there using Root Explorer. Just to be safe you can rename the current one to bootanimation.bak or whatever you'd like. Be sure to set permissions on the file to match the old one (mine are rwxrwxr-x, meaning everything is checked except write for "others", but yours could be different). With Root Explorer you can do so by long-pressing the file and selecting "permissions" from the menu. It should be similar for any other root file explorer.
You can reflash your ROM, but you'll lose any other mods you've made and will need to reflash your kernel if it's a custom one. To reflash without losing data, just wipe cache and dalvik then flash.

ok ive been running meanrom for a whle now. on version 1.91 as soon as i installed it i could overclock no problem. now im on v1.93 and i cant. where do i need to put the rom zip file in twrp in order to make my phone overclock. i know from root explore that the rom was on the external sd card whev i downloaded v1.91. well now i reverted back to v1.91 and my phone wont overclock again. this has been a random problem as i uograde the rom as mikey creates it . i have v1.91 on the internal sd card now and i have it on my pc. also the meanrom ics folder is embedded in the rom zip file. isee that in root explorer also. this never happens when im on wifi and just download rom to the phone. but the overclocking comes and goes as i upgrade with meanrom. my evo is so much faster when i can oc to 1.782. thanx if anyone can help
u have to flash the oc zip that in the mean rom folder.. when u flash mean rom there's a folder that go's on your sdcard.. there is a zip in the folder to overclock.. the folder should be in sdcrad not sdcard 2..

its on the internal SD now, not External... i had to locate it last night
Why don't you just use root explorer and go to system/etc and find the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file and long press it and select edit in text editor. From there you will see Mikey's instructions on setting 15 different overclock settings. Enter the level you want, save it and reboot.

Ok i found a way to get to the files thru twrp. if anyone else has this problem heres how i solved it. i went to the meanrom zip file for the rom and extracted it in root explorer THE ENTIRE ROM ZIP FILE. then it said it was extracting the files to sd card speed software. so that is on the internal sd card. so heres how i got to all the zip[ file options for meanrom ics. speedsoftware-sd card- meanrom- then there the zip files were. i instaleed rosie 4x5 land 360..worked fine..and remapped the right to menu..worked fine. and of course overclock which my phone still will not. i also went to root explore and changed the overclock to 10 but it still wont stick. my benchmark tests say its not sticking also. so if anyone else has any suggestions id appreciate it. also if anyone understands what i described above about the zip files and what i did is a bad thing then please comment. also it did not extract the rom file from where it was located nor did it make it not useable. i flashed the rom again to see if i could get the overclock to work. does anyone know why my phone isnt separating the zip files form the rom? it always has before. but ever since v1.91 of meanrom it hasnt. do i need ti fix permissions in advanced menu of twrp or something like that? also when i flash the rom it says that its copying the files to the sd card meanrom ics without any errors showing up. thanks to those who did comment. if ANYONE who has had any issues with gettin meanrom to overclock know any tricks to get it to stick please respond.
I'm running the stock ROM, rooted, and just with a few mods (back button menu, 1% battery, remove ATT bloatware).
Whenever I make a change to the host file at /system/etc/hosts, after I reboot to apply, it's been reset to the 60-byte default host file, wiping my changes out. Yes, I am mounting /system R/W before making my changes. It doesn't matter if I remount /system back to R/O before rebooting, the file still reverts. Even if I set the permissions on the file to read-only after making my change, it still reverts.
Is there anything I can set to make my modified host file stick? Or is /system always reloaded?
I do see that the Cognition ROM has writable /system as one of its features, suggesting that the stock ROM does something like this with /system.
There's a kernel mod you can flash over on the international side that disables the stock kernel protection, or you can flash one of the custom kernels that have no such protection.

Thanks.
Flashed Cognition ROM and my host file stayed modified after a reboot. May have been more heavy-handed a change than required, but it worked.
:laugh:use root explorer to make the host's file will be read only and try again
I am having issues with TWRP and partition on the device. I downloaded a new rom, which is in /SDCARD/Download directory. I can see it just fine using Root Explorer.
When I boot recovery, my /SDCARD/Download shows files that didn't exist before. Not only is the newly downloaded rom file (with .zip extension) not there, an OLD rom file is, one that existed before I wiped it and started over from a TWRP backup.
Its almost like there are 2 entire partition living on the device. Oh and one other thing: I just started from scratch again (not a recovery) and already have 8GB of space taken. Its under the "OTHER" tab in Phone Storage.
Is there anyway I can just delete everything and start from scratch? Will installing a stock T Mobile RUU do this? If I go that route, do I need to unlock the bootloader again / root again?
Have you flashed to and from 4.2 roms? You can find the other files in twrp by going up to the root folder and then data/media. You could ruu to get rid of it but it'll pop up again if you flash from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and back.

Had this happen to me when I tried a 4.3 Rom and went back to stock T-mo Rom. Used a file explorer to find file O(I think) and transferred all my files back to original sdcard folder.

Well I think I found the problem. I was browsing my sd card using root browser looking for a Rom file (trickdroid.zip). I saw it before in the sdcard/download folder when using the file browser in twrp. But now it's not there.
So I start to pry through other folders and I notice a new folder: "0" zero. A folder called 0 with and entire sdcard folder structure within it. I look in the new download folder and there is.my missing file.
I'm curious how this new zero folder came to be. I have a theory, I did reinstall a Rom without wiping and I think that did it. I usually always wipe but specifically didn't this time because I have a twrp backup that I need to save.
I.take it the OS is now using the regular sdcard path? How can I tell twrp to look in that path for the backup (if I move it there)? When you hit restore in twrp I don't think it lets you browse for the backup. It assumes it's in the "default" spot...

If you can find one from a your rom on this site you could push through adb.. but if you can't then no.. With no custom recovery or back up of that file there is no way..
Do you have a way of refreshing your stock rom? If so do that

Yep, your choices are custom recovery (which also requires you to unlock your bootloader), and you can make a flashable zip with the services.jar file you need or reflash the entire stock rom. Lesson learned: don't make changes to the system without having a custom recovery and a backup.

Dear fellas,
I replaced my build.prop file to an another one and my phone is not booting up anymore.
I have a rooted Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus, with custom recovery.
Can anyone advise what to do without wiping the phone completely and flashing a new ROM?
What I've tried doing:
- I had the original build.prop that the phone had before it got stuck.
- I used the file explorer in custom recovery, copied that file to the system folder in root.
- Rebooted the device, still no luck!
- After rebooting, when I reopen the recovery, and navigate to the system folder again, I don't find the file I copied to the system folder!
Any thoughts on the matter please? Thanks in advance!
Have you tried writing original Rom to the phone. Don't have much experience with that kind best I can suggest

Try mount system read/write first then copy og build prop file in system partition and reboot or use aroma file manager.
