For me it would be fine if ut had the s3, but it would have to ship with ics. Without ics, the s3 will suck, with not as much android developers wanting a 2.3 device when most phones coming out with ics in a month.

Awesome! Got my fingers crossed! And I agree s3 with ICS wouldn't be bad at all. Though a 4212 with LTE and ICS would be nice...

That's good AT&T is getting it but I think I'll give up LTE for the physical button. And I'm sure they'll cut corners where they can and leave something out like usual.

They may leave something out, but with their latest phones theyve actually been smart. And we still have no confirmation if it is lte, but it def will not have the button. Too bad, the button looks cool. I just hope it has the exynos somehow.

Whow man lol just kidding. I necissarily (sorry typing fast) dont care, i just want either ics or the exynos lol.
Exactly no one will really care all that much if it has a physical button or not. Yes it defintely looks cool and I'd honestly prefer it but the search button is nice in some cases each way I'm sure has an advantage. As for me it also boils down to hoping for ICS and exynos. Though I'm getting the phone regardless of what's in it I want the note because of what it does and being somewhat unique.

Would ICS fix the lag that the S3 is supposedly to have during games and such? Sorry I've been researching betwen the OGs2 and the skyrocket and everyone seems to say the ogs2 is better because of the lag on the skyrocket and worse performance in gaming.

From what I've noticed on my captivate it has given a performance boost and is way smoother than GB. Also while the S3 is slightly slower then the exynos the true difference in speed is a lot of the time exaggerated. I believe with ICS it'll be amazing but even just GB S3 performance will be fine and hopefully an update will roll out quickly.

Actually many people will care a lot that it doesn't have a physical home button. I won't be getting one because of that (unless they somehow manage to implement LTE without losing the Exynos processor) because it is SOOO much easier to wake the phone with a physical home button than to hunt for the power button on the side, then push the power button and half the time the volume goes up or down since the dumbasses put the volume rocker directly opposite it. I have an app that puts a power-off in the notification menu, btw.

I don't blame you. The design is screwed up with the placement of the power button.
It would be a HUGE mistake. Only people who have used these know. You would not believe how hard it is to used that side button. Not only that, but it's placement makes its IMPOSSIBLE to use without hitting the volume button.
I'm not sure if I can deal with this. Maybe, maybe not. But I can tell you this for sure:
All HELL will break loose if this is the case, after people realize what the issue is. THis forum is going to be crazy with complaints.
But this phone is better than anything if you use the s-pen. I mean, WAY better than anything. It's like a mini Tablet-PC. It's gotta be the coolest and well designed gadget this year...really. If they nix the button it's ATT's fault, and not Samsung's design.

You may already know this, but there are apps that allow you to turn off the screen with a long press of a capacitive button.
What is the app that someone has to do a power off from the notification menu. I totally agree that having to power off from the side is a pain and I am always changing the volume.

Since I went android, I've had nothing but HTC phones. I loved my Eris, incredible, & now thunderbolt. I've been following up on all these tech news, and I am starting to get curious of other phones. So my question to you all is, what phone would you guys consider outside of HTC? I've been following up on the 5" Samsung galaxy q that we only have rumors about, mainly because it has a bigass screen and I currently don't own a tab. If it had usb host mode then it would be a no brainer for me. I'm sold. But I looove HTC tho. I wish they could make a 5" phone/tab.

More screen to hide a REAL battery beneath though. Still, I'm not a fan of looking like a world-class dork holding a phone nearly the width of a 2x4 to my head for a call. Not to mention it probably looks about as garish as a Desert Eagle strapped to your side beneath a shirt or jacket. Who was it that made that phone/tab thing that was just HUGE? Dell, I think it was. Too massive to be a good phone, too dinky to be a good tablet... The only thing to out-class it in "WEIRD..." is that frankenphone Kyocera makes with the unfold-expand-"I'm a Nintendo DS Android!" thing.
That said, I'm a Samsung fan in all reality. Up until I went BlackBerry, that's all I would buy. And then Samsung met Android and began gene splicing with... SOMETHING... and I do NOT like it. It's the digital equivalent of a butterface. It's all sexy and smooth inside and out, but then you look at the screen and say "oh dear... there's NO way I'm gonna live with that hook-nose, acne-scarred, Jay Leno chinned monstrosity of a UI. The ONLY thing worse than AOSP and it's mutant launchers, in my opinion, is WizTouch, or whatever it's called. That would disappear from any Samsung I owned within hours.
As for Motorola... I'll quote myself. "There's some boner-inducing devices". Quirky TI CPUs that leave you asking "Where's the GHz?", pale and pasty screens, Motorola's world-famous garbage radios, E-Fuse, and a LONG history of making some of the worst phones ever. Any Motorola is the last device I'd own.
LG... At least they didn't try to be original and fail. Looks like ADW on AOSP mostly. More junk radios though.
I'm sure most didn't see it coming 5 or 6 years ago, but HTC does seem to be where it's at, with Samsung on their heels. Now if Samsung would just ramp up capacity on those AMOLED screens and outsource them again, little puppies wouldn't have to die.

I might be wrong, but I thought there was already a 5" samsung on ATT. If so I would agree you better try holding up to your ear and putting in your pocket before you sink money into buying it. Trying it there right now would be a good sign whether you should forget about buying it whenever it comes to verizon.
I'm guessing none of you are big guys, I'm 6'2" and I have large hands and 4.3" phones are a little small when in landscape and typing. Another 1/4-1/2" would be perfect for me, while others still think a 3.7" screen is the sweet spot. Also you have to keep in mind that the rumor is that these new phones with larger screens have smaller bezels.

Lol. U guys are a trip. I'm 6"2 but I do feel like my thunderbolt is kinda adequately sized. But I'm a photographer, I like to view my images on something other than my camera when I'm nowhere near my imac. I don't own a laptop. And the tablet market has not caught up with the multimedia market yet. But I'm aware some phones and tablets have usb hosting mode. So a phone/tablet would be ideal. 5.3" screen would be an adequate in-between size for tablet and phone use imo. But the idea of usb host is what would sell me on something like that. It may not even be a possibility for that matter so... Well just have to wait n see.

I have to use an AT&T phone for work so I chose the Atrix...it's pretty decent since it got updated to 2.3.4 but the UI is absolute garbage. It's snappy like I want it to be, but you are exactly right about the colors on the screen being incredibly muted. At the end of the day though I am quite happy to switch to my bolt.
I have been a bit curious about the Bionic that seems like it may actually be coming out soon-ish. If they did something about the terrible color quality it could potentially be worth looking into. My wife just got a Droid 3 because she refuses to have a phone without a physical keyboard...it's not terrible. Haven't played with it too much, but from what I have played with I wasn't too disappointed with.
I'd still want to stay away from Moto phones for a while. Any influence google will have over them probably wont happen until the generation after the next so whatever comes out later this year will probably be similar to what Moto has done in the past.

Yeah, I'd say most of what is in the bionic is already set other than some software tweaks they may do. Hopefully it wont have blur on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath since it's a phone that's been in the works for a while.

Some people just want the best hardware build quality and for that you have to get Motorola. As long as the bionic gets rooted I want it. I'm trying to hold out on a replacement phone until it comes out because I won't use LG or Samsung and this is my 4th thunderbolt so my next replacement they will replace with a different 4g phone. The thunderbolt has good software, with its bugs but all phones do, and the BAMF roms are great but the poor build quality of these phones is something I'm not gonna deal with anymore. I've played with a incredible and it seemed much better in terms of quality so I wouldn't write off HTC phones like I have LG and Samsung, I just think its because they rushed to get a 4g phone out.

Sorry man... I'm just gonna have to disagree with you on the whole Motorola build quality thing. I've gone though so many of those phone it's not even funny. The electronics and radios they use are garbage. My dad had a thing for Motorola for some ungodly reason and had these things laying around all over the place. Every time I activated one to give to someone it either buzzed so loud you couldn't hear anything, the mic would just randomly die, the controls didn't work/respond, the displays looked like crap, and without a single exception, NONE of them had a radio in them worth a damn. I couldn't even call into customer service to complain because the POS wouldn't work on the switchboard! Totally and completely worthless devices that couldn't so much as hold a signal to receive a text while I'd be on my Samsung chatting away. They sold those POS Razr's like crack to addicts, but they were garbage! Now my buddy has a DX that flips on and off, hangs up in calls, just stops responding, and goes and does stuff all by itself. Surprised? I wasn't. Pretty par for the course given what I've seen Motorola crank out for the last 6 years. I told the last guy who tried selling me on a Motorola that he'd have an easier time selling condoms in a convent. It's not often I hate on a product or company this much, but honestly, if they were giving Bionics away for free I STILL wouldn't activate one on one of my lines.
i just got my S3 and i m so worried and so sad people!
i got the pebble blue s3. i have issues with my screen. i ran the screen test and found the same dark spots on my screen when screen is black. there are lots of them. i dont have nice camera to take pic of those dots. they are really annoying because i surf the internet a lot and these dots are very visible specially in the dark!
the other issue is something with the viewing angle. when i hold the device right next to my eyes (as we all do most of the times) the screen seems to be more yellowish and the colors seem to be alot washed away! but when i change the viewing angle like just a little, i mean when i tilt the device just a little the colors get normal the way they should be!
the next thing is the pink tint. in the browser the white pages are EXTREMELY PINK! yes EXTREMELY PINK! that happens at the automatic brightness!
when viewing the black color on the sceen, when the capacitive touch buttons are on the light of the menu button seems to leave its light on the screen. and the blacks are NOT AT ALL BLACK!!!
people i am so tensed and worried! can someone help me out of these problems? i have read that the white S3 does not have any of this problem is it true? i have also read that the dark spots are because of the glu used and those would go away with time, but i dont believe in that! should i send the device to claim warranty and get it repaired? pls pls pls some one help me! i have spent all my money i had saved for the past 4 months for this set and i even sold my Galaxy Note for this! i am so much tensed! pls help me guys!

You got a defective unit it happens. So send it back or get it repaired / exchanged. You spent a lot of money you should get a product that works as intended without defects. The sooner the better you'll be much happier. Best advice I can give you. All without the need to jumping off a bridge or if you do hope that you that you land on kyan to break your fall.

The block splotches are absolutely not indicative of a bad display.
They are present on virtually every OLED screen, ranging from the Nexus One's, to the PlayStation Vita's, to the Samsung Galaxy S3's.
I can't speak for your other issues, but people need to understand the splotches are common on pretty much any OLED. Some can see them easily, some seem to be unable to, but it does not mean the panel is defective.
Why are you on here? I see you just joined the site recently. How about you learn to be polite and if you can't, then leave.

yeah u r right. i guess my set is faulty. but i thought this might be something that would get ok with time. but that does does not make any sense. if those dots were something related to the glue, those should have been vanished by now as the set is old now. i mean it should have been produced at least like 1 or 2 months ago.

I use an app called dead pixel test, and it allows you to cycle through several different solid coloured screns, like all white, all black, red blue etc. No probelms with my screen, but I have a screen protector on it now.
Does yours have a screen protector that could be affecting it? Otherwise just return it as faulty.
I also have the pebble blue and screen is amazing. No issues here. Did notice the marks on a completely black screen in a dark room once but it hasn't showed since. Didn't really bother me.

Good grief. You must have lived in Utopia if a defective phone blights your life so much. Stop with the self-absorption already.
Just tested my phone for the dark patches and the screen is full of them. So far it hasn't ruined my life. Or indeed a millisecond of my life.

yeah u r right. i guess my set is faulty. but i thought this might be something that would get ok with time. but that does does not make any sense. if those dots were something related to the glue, those should have been vanished by now as the set is old now. i mean it should have been produced at least like 1 or 2 months ago.
man i am ruined! i feel really so so bad! i just got up its 7 here in the morning and i am so badly hurt! and great news is that today is complete shutter down strike here in my city Karachi. so all the market and whole of the city is shut down. so i cant go to the store and return the device! If today is the worst day of your life... your a sad sad person. Its a phone for goodness sake! .
Get over it and get it exchanged if your not happy, but seriously whining like the above makes you look very silly as your acting like an 8 year old with a tantrum.
My s3 has faults too, like the front facing speaker isnt flat and sits at an angle... but you dont hear me whining....
These are a mass produced product and there will always be faulty units... so dont fret and go and get another one

Wow, you need to get over yourself. It's a phone, stop whining on the internet and move on with your life.
As many have suggested, just return the phone and get it exchanged.

Good grief. You must have lived in Utopia if a defective phone blights your life so much. Stop with the self-absorption already.
Just tested my phone for the dark patches and the screen is full of them. So far it hasn't ruined my life. Or indeed a millisecond of my life.

I do some side Android App developing and so much time with AOSP that it is very difficult for me to go from my Galaxy Nexus (with the appropriate menu/button configuration) and taking a step back to the Note II (which I have not done yet) in this one area. I think it may just be a serious case of OCD? I don't know.
How do you guys feel about this? I -assume- most came from a device that already had the old hardware menu button. So it's probably not a big deal.... just curious.

I came from quite a few previous phones with a Hardware Menu/Settings button. Then I went to the DNA which is like the Gnex and doesn't have that button. I couldn't stand not having the actual button. So I'm sure it'll be the same way for you off the bat. However I do know that you can turn on the nav bar on the GNII. So you might be able to turn that on a rock it that way. It's a great phone. Don't let the menu button discourage ya.
I need an extra push, I'm hoping to find it here.
I'm coming from a Galaxy S2. There are two things I will have to live without, can anyone tell me if I should be worried?
1. The lack of a menu and search button.
2. Not having the ability to take out the battery.
On another note, I was wondering if someone could confirm if it's possible to remove the HTC Sense? The first thing I plan on doing is rooting it and removing basically any software HTC and AT&T add. One other question.. does anyone know if the IR can be setup to use custom commands, or if that's something we have to wait for developers?
I don't have much to add on here except the search button is so two years ago. No need to have that button there with the advent of long pressing and double tapping.

Most people that cry about batteries are usually closet Samsung fanboys. The ability to "take out the battery" is a bit overrated. Sorry but I don't have any need to add a brick to the back of my phone just so I can show off some "amazing battery stats"

Actually it's nice to have a search button where if I'm in the app drawer I can tap that and search for an app. Or if I'm on the home screen it opens google now. Or on a browser, it's a quick search button. You get the idea. What's the alternative now? How do you open Google Now or search for apps quickly?

I hate the way the S4 looks, and the S3. The huge rounded corners are a big turn off. I would end up getting that if I can't put up with the limitations the one has to offer.

Actually, I don't care about that.. I can optimize android to get what I need out of it. But I do like the ability to replace it if it dies or degrades in performance in a year from now, or say.. my phone is frozen, taking out the battery is often the fastest way to turn the damn thing off. Most of my stuff is in the cloud now, so I don't see me needing to replace my SD card. But it has occationally come in handy when I want to just pop it into my laptop to transfer some large files. I'm going to miss that.
I'm usually a Samsung guy but the one is amazing. We complain about the battery being no good over time and needing the ability to swap out. However, we get the next best thing after a year or so of use then sell the current device. The one is good. I haven't even rooted yet. I can wait until we get a stock RUU.

If I have any issues with the battery I am calling Squaretrade and getting a replacement. That's the great thing about having insurance even though I am not even sure If I will be using this device for the full 2 years. Also, if you hold the power button down for 10 seconds its just like pulling the battery, but much faster.
I came from having a Galaxy SIII on Verizon, switched to ATT with a Galaxy SII Skyrocket and am now a happy camper with my One. The biggest hurdle was getting over not having the same capacitive buttons and how much faster the One is.
By no means am I a heavy user but I am sitting here with 60% battery going on just over 8 hours.
Lol I love being to put a beastly 7000 mah battery in my phone to get 3 days of battery. But if I can't, it isn't that big of a deal. Btw I'm not a Samsung fan boy, I'm a fan of whatever is the best.

On a custom rom you can map the other buttons to do a menu and maybe even a search (I'm not sure)
Holding power+vol up and down simulates pulling the battery
Right now there is not a way to remove sense, you can use 3rd party launchers for now. They are working on pure android ROMs and development will be GREAT on this device. I have owned a S2 and played with the One and the One is SWEET. (I'm still waiting for my black to arrive). I have a HTC One XL and think it is MUCH better than my S2. Just get it, You will love it. Or wait for development to grow a little to give you all those features

Weird. In those pictures, the AT&T version has a bit of a blue hue to it, while the Verizon version is hard black. There's definitely some kind of color difference on the back cover. Although, user pics of the AT&T version seen HERE look pretty black to me.
I find the software differences to be very odd.

I agree. I just know that it probably means that software updates on Verizon's are even less likely if there are two different versions. Good thing I'm going to throw stock android on as soon as it's possible.
Will there be anyway to remove that awful Verizon logo at the top right?
I came across some posts about using a penny to rub off the logo and it leaves no scratches.
I suppose you could add a sticker over it too.
Verizon is just out of control with their logo placement.
I personally like the brightness slider and it being gone is a dissapointment. Honestly after watching this vid im less enthused about the G2 since Verizon cant keep their damn hands off anything.
so am I, dude. that settings menu looks awful. I'm really reconsidering everything now. this is so damn annoying

I am on AT&T and feel sorry for our Verizons buddies. At first i felt the menu was bad too. As a matter of fact menu is not that bad it is just that we are so much used to watching the demo videos of the international phones. You may eventually start liking it as we play along. Don't be disappointed. Think about it.

I hear what ur saying and your right but it gets old man. Its like this with every phone. The buttons on the back of the G2 i actually like them better as far as looks. They look like metal and look premium. The wireless charging i want so thats nice to. The problem is you guys already have root, something that probably wont be as easy with the Vzw version, and a unlockable bootloader probably wont even be a option.

Yeah i agree rooting is always a problem for Verizon devices. But as you mentioned features like wireless charging pay you everyday which is not likely in AT&T devices. There are pros and cons.
Did the Verizon version G2 just get one of the stereo speakers removed essentially making it a mono speaker setup? Yikes....
Feel bad so far for Verizon adopters so far

Thanks for clarifying. Didn't know that. I'm a bit spoiled with the stereo setup on the HTC One.
